@Rusty Shackleford Thank you for your comment. I have hope that there's still people with common sense, it's not so common today, what a shame . So sincerely thank you !
Scientology is NOT considered a religion in Germany. There are many countries that merely tolerate is as an organization but will not give it religious status. And others that consider it a cult. It should be stripped of its 501(c)3 status!
MrZillas no....they like if you have money but if you don't you can dedicate your life by working for them for slave wages, then when you are old and not as useful you are thrown to the curb and they will ignore you because you no longer have anything to offer them. So in the end one ends up poor, homeless, no special skills , rejected, no pension and maybe sick but still brainwashed or hypnotized by the cults doctrine. Then one realizes that they wasted their life with all their sacrifices for the cult with nothing to show for it.
@@lawrencelawrence3920 They probably get billed for their "free loader" debt once they're not useful to the cult anymore. I'm in awe that this org is still operating. I'm 43 now and I hope like hell that I am alive to see their tax exempt status taken away.

@@ninamartinez2239 the reason why they are made to sign a billion year contract is because, in Scientology is believe in incarnation. When incarnated you have an obligation to serve Scientology still.
That's right. Plus you have to buy a new body from Scientology once you're done using the body you are in now. And when you use a new body after you die from the previous one, you have to retake all the courses over again. That's right, another $500,000 worth. What a scam.
ekim andersom well I wouldn’t go that far. I will say I am a stark atheist and refuse to give up those views but I digress. I know many people whom religion has helped a lot and there are many good people who just want a higher power someone to guide them dare I say through life but are untimely good hard working people. Unfortunately on the other we have extremist beliefs and cult like religions which disgrace people who are genuine nice people who unfortunately believe in something which does not exist. I’m not here to argue but I do feel bad when all religious people are grouped together under one generalized hateful term or opinion.

Judaism fits that criteria, they typically try to exlude you from joining because it is a racist blood thing for them, they believe they are the special people because of certain blood line.
Not as big a fan of the documentary as you, I think. But, it provides a lot of interesting insight into the mindset of Scientology. The thing I found most interesting were the refutation letters that the cult provided. Their claims against their critics sounded rather similar. I have a hard time believing everyone who left and were critical were all on the verge of being kicked out. Yet, that seemed to be in every letter they sent.
I had no idea Scientology was so insidious before binge watching Leah’s show on Netflix. Never encountered Scientologists myself, but I had Jehovah’s witnesses try and recruit me. They get weird and low-key try to bully you into joining when you politely decline. As in “escorting them from my residence in the most forceful way I could without resorting to actual violence while making it clear violence was about to ensue if they did not” level bullying.
It broke my heart when I found out the man I'm dating was disowned from his family and kicked out of the house because he didn't follow them into the Scientology religion at fifteen..
Tom Cruise got to stand beside their current leader, David Miscavige, because he paid the most money! He found an audience that he paid millions of dollars for to stroke his ego!
I heard the story of why Cruise got into Scientology, and I can see his loyalty in one way. Cruise is dyslexic. Now, this affects your reading skills, and hindered him when he was starting out as an actor. He turned down roles because he was misreading the writing on the page. His then wife, Mimi Rogers, who was a Scientologist, suggested a course which would help his reading, and "cure" his dyslexia. Apparently, the method of reading he learnt in the Scientology class helped him greatly, which helped him to read scripts and audition for more role, thus his success. So, you see, he gives Scientology the credit for his movie success. So he started attending, but because of auditing sessions, there might be many secrets they now blackmail him with. So I can understand him joining initially. I heard that the basic courses at the bottom are normal enough, but they indoctorine you to get you to pay money for the higher courses.
Tom Cruise should be boycotted for approving of the disgusting methods The Cult of Scientology imposes on those who leave the cult or don't approve of its teachings. The IRS should revoke its tax-exempt status. Bill Clinton must be a Scientologist.
I was introduced to Scientology by neighbors in 1964, and went & agreed to an 'audit'. They called me back to discuss the results, and claimed that I was too critical! I said "You're damn right I'm critical, and *that's* why I'm not joining your organization!"
I wouldn't mind doing an audit, just due to curiosity in what it entails. But I have zero interest in "real" religion, so I have less than zero patience for a cult.
I have done the "audit" twice honestly and dishonesty, either way I had problems and needed auditing, I didn't go through with it, I think it comes down money, I live in Sydney Australia before the pandemic they were out and about everywhere, haven't seen them, they have a big church in the city.
Exactly. And William S Burroughs has committed enormously illegal activities, of which he was very candid about nevertheless, but nothing he would call immoral (as he had his own code of ethics and morality). It makes you wonder what dirt they have on a lot of these celebrities.
@@wickedwitchoftheeast88 he abused his wife and ran off with his daughter. Dropping her in a terrible orphanage. Then he told his wife that he killed the daughter. Yeah he was definitely a psychopath
BurnLikeAFlame theirs a huge difference. Church's worship the son, the father, and the holy spirit. Masque and Scientology cults worship unicorns and aliens and stuff like that.
To say Paul Haggis "made fun of" Scientology was very poor wording. He bravely told the world about all the horrible things they did to him.. he didn't make fun of it omg
You know, I am a Catholic and I have my criticisms of the Catholic Church-but I’m not worried that they will ever investigate me, or try to ruin my life if I don’t agree with them on everything they say. Something just isn’t right about a religion that can’t handle criticism of itself.
What the Catholic Church has done to my fellow Irish people is just as bad it's just a pedophile tourist cult send pedos caught to different areas and saying nothing that's sick 🤒 and they wonder why the church is died in Ireland 🇮🇪
Kathleen, unfortunately you are in a cult too. It is just more subtil. Worship Christ alone. Not the pope who calls himself the vicar of Christ. He is a devil.
It's true Kathleen. No other religions or beliefs went to this extreme to stop people critized their beliefs. This is a sadistic cult behaviour, fanbase going nuts. If JK Rowling starts something like this too to generates money, she will be highly successful too - worldwide. Sad, but true.
Nicole Kidman should be #1 on this list. The story of how she was indoctrinated into Tom Cruise's life by Miscavige and then villainized after she left Scientology, and how this adversely affected their children gives her the top spot. She also connected with Katie after her divorce as they had a lot to talk about.
I reacted with “Leah who?” Her face looked familiar but it took a moment to place her. Brad Pitt, Jerry Seinfeld, Nicole K might have more notoriety, but it depends upon who you ask.
No it didn't. Scientology is still 100% tax exempt. Has been since 1993. For some reason social media got it wrong a couple of years ago, but Snopes steered me right.
What may be a little known fact about Lisa Marie Presley leaving Scientology is that she helped out Ron Miscavage (Father of Scientology leader David Miscavage) after he was being harassed when he left Scientology. Apparently Lisa Marie was absolutely disgusted that David Miscavage would treat his own father that way.
My sister had a friend who was almost tricked into joining this cult. Here’s what happened: She got accepted into this acting school in LA, so her dad took her to check it out. While they were asking her questions, her dad found out that the school was founded by Scientology and all of the faculty were members. He ran into the room, grabbed her, and drove back home before they could brainwash her. So yeah…gotta watch out for that.
Damn bro, honestly you really needs be careful around West Hollywood all the way to the East, watch out for them Scientologists. For real they be walking kinda weird, in a robot like way. They're very pushy when trying to recruit.
I’ll bet she threw a fit all the way home… “I hate you daddy!! You don’t understand me!!! You never let me do anything fun!! Waaaaaaaahhh!!!” Having daughters must be terrifying. If she’s older, she better thank her dad for saving her life.
@@babysealsareyummy well yes, having children, not just DAUGHTERS, can be difficult. they often don’t understand why their parents make certain choices. (lol, speaking as a young person myself.) but eventually they will understand.
Jason Beghe deserves an honourable mention. He was one of the first celebrities to leave and not be afraid to go public about what a scam Scientology is.
In South Park's episode that made direct fun of Scientology, the production team changed all of the names in the credits to "John Smith" and "Jane Smith" to avoid lawsuits
Just watch, now The Scientologists will start a huge smear campaign against Watchmojo. They’ll say that this was the least watched video on RU-vid or something.
What about that episode of south park, the only thing I know of that happened was Isaac Hayes left who voiced chef because he was a scientologist, then they brutally murdered and got rid of his character in the next season.

Holmes should be number one. What Katie Holmes did was incredibly brave because she was fighting not only for herself, but also for her daughter. This, in my opinion, deserves to be named as the bravest escape from Scientology. Cults are scary as all hell and she managed to get herself and a small child out of the claws of Scientology, a toxic marriage, AND build a lasting relationship on top of it all. She has my utmost respect.
Anna Sophia probably you are right, but did you notice that people joining are becoming famous or get more money after? I guess it's a mutual benefit and when the system is restrictive than they want to leave.
Oh! Anna! *Don't talk utter rubbish.* 'So brave' - what nonsense. People are free to leave Scientology anytime. I myself am a *5th Dan scientologist* and I have all my belts. Scientology is not to be used to attack others but only for Defence and Katie would have been learning these skills. I was taught by a Grandmaster (Chuck Norris) and now I walk the Ancient and spiritual path to enlightenment. *Katie simply didn't have the mental fortitude and discipline to learn the ways of Scientology.*
Leah Remini also had a child and she is bad ass because she has a show on A and E helping other people tell their stories as well as holding the church accountable. So she deserves to be #1. Not only did she escape but she is helping others. Holmes does nothing for others. Btw she was barely in Scientology to begin with. Leah was in since she was 8 yearls old so she was in deep when she had the courage to brake away.

Paul Haggis left when he finally learned the "history" of Scientology regarding Lord Xenu, Thetans, etc.. His reaction: "What the f*ck is this sh*t???"
It is a religion. One can adhere to the 'religion of anything'. It is a cult and should be cut off the list of government 'churches' so the tax implications would bankrupt them.
commatoes I was at a meeting of CSI (Committee for Skeptical Inquiry) in 70s. The older gentlemen there told me they had make a bet with L. Ron Hubbard (at that time a sci-fi writer). They bet he couldn’t invent a religion without a God. Thus, Scientology! This was just after Time magazine featured an article & cover about them. They remarked how brave the reporters were!
In 1974, Manson stated his religion was Scientology, and identified as a Scientologist after studying the religion while incarcerated. Manson completed 150 hours of auditing before declaring Scientology "too crazy"

What's really sad is that children born into the cult are not raised by the parents, so there is no chance of them learning any other life than Scientology. Brainwashed from birth.
Yeah I don't understand that either. Like Albert Einstein once said: Only Two Things are Infinite, The Universe and Human Stupidity, and I Do Not Know About The Former.
My older brother and eldest sister joined Scientology at about the same time but left around the same time because of the ever increasing financial burden. They both started to believe they were getting conned. I was approached by Scientologists while I was still in the Army, perhaps because of their participation. I had a minimal income and zero capital. These folks are relentless. I told them repeatedly I wasn't the least bit interested, but they persisted for about six months. I had to move on base to get away from them.
When I lived in Austin Texas, I met up with a couple of very friendly guys who introduced me to Scientology and talked about all the wonderful things that it could do to improve and upgrade your life. I took one course at their Org on Guadalupe Street across from the flagship UT campus. After going through the hour and a half long course, I started getting suspicious about this whole Scientology thing. The guys known as auditers started noticing my change of heart and tried to stop me from leaving their rented facility. These were muscular guys dressed in all black and they were not pleasant to deal with when you harbor second thoughts. I managed to get around them and ran out that front door never to return. The sad thing is they had my mailing address and I was getting bombarded with their bullshit mail every other day. Even when I moved they would manage to get my new address. A few times they would call me and I would tell them to stop sending me mail and stop their harrassment of me. That fell on deaf ears at first but than when I threatened to call authorities on them they started to back off. That was a real eye opener for me that night back in August 1993.

Robert what sells people is the promise ( covert) of prosperity. Any teaching can have some positive, personal benefits. And those benefits can be so attractive as to suspend rational scrutiny. Humans often embrace what they WANT to believe, rather than truth.
That such people are drawn into Scientology in the first place let's you know being a celebrity does not imbue one with critical thought or a moral/philosophical center. Kudos for the ones that found those things and got out.

Mega-success leaves you with a hole in your soul that is not usually addressed by mainstream religions, which have traditionally concentrated on alleviating the pain of the wretched. If you feel the pain of the ultra-rich you need a religion that tells you it is e.g. because you are secretly a member of a superior species (or something like that). This also explains the appeal of Buddhism to Hollywood stars, by the way.
@@kenyettaready Actually, I think fame is much more important to Scientology now than money. Nobody believes them. They are not seen as just harmless "crazy" people now, but as criminals who run an evil cult. It's a matter of time before their numbers shrink from a few thousand to a few hundred.
DreadStare most of the time your entire family is in the church. There are countless stories of people who can no longer talk to their parents, siblings, or even their children.
DreadStare think about it it's still your family that's in the church your family that you still love and care about and you're not able to talk to them anymore probably for not the rest of your life that's incredibly painful to think about
One of my best friends tried this crap back in the late 90s. He quit because they always wanted money, the reasoning they gave him was he needed to be "cleared", it was a process, they told him. He spent so much money on their "evaluations" he almost went broke before he wised up. Thank goodness he did. It's no wonder so many rich people love this cult, as that's what it is, because you can only afford it if your rich. I remember being so relieved when my friend told me he was done with it. His experience just solidified my aversion to any faith or group that is basically a secret society. My mother wanted me to join the Eastern Star back when, so I asked her what it was about. She wouldn't tell me, so I figured that if my own beloved mother couldn't tell me, then I'd be damned if I joined. The reason I brought up the experience between my mom and me is because Scientology reminds me so much of the OES, Shriners, Freemasons, Skull & Bones, etc. Basically, there's no way I'd join a group without knowing some of what was in store for me beforehand.
That's why he left South Park and they killed him. Everything in that episode is true. I looked into Scientology in my 20's out of curiosity and couldn't bring myself to actually pursue it after visiting the "church" in Atlanta. It was bizarre and nothing like what celebrities like Tom Cruise make it out to be. They are the exceptions to all the rules one must follow in Scientology.
Old-Guy-Rants. Yup. They disapproved of South Park making fun of them, and forced him to quit. So Matt Stone and Trey Parker kicked up the razzing a notch, and started getting death threats. Even worse, their homes were broken into, and there were signs indicating that if it didn't stop, next time they'd break in when they're home and the death threats would be carried out. Pretty fucked up, if you ask me. I was in Scientology for about 6 months, but I'm bipolar, and they made me quit my meds. Then (thank God!) they kucked me out because I was too crazy for them.
I thought the same thing for a long time but it might not actually be true. I read that he got too sick to work. I hope it isn't true but it does make perfect sense. Oh well. R.I.P Chef!
I remember back in 06-07 there was suddenly a HUGE flock of scientologists everywhere in San Francisco. They set up dozens of stands on the streets in front a malls and shopping centers and tourist attractions, coaxing people to take a "free stress test" using the e-meter. I watched a friend take the test....and surprise! She was stressed and was trying to be coerced into buying some book and releasing certain personal information. A 2 min "test", then fill out some umpteen page long "info sheet". We waited til no one was looking and ran away. We tried to avoid them....but they were EVERYWHERE at the time.
Two of my classmates and I did a report on cults in high school. We didn’t touch much on Scientology but did a few others who were big in the 70s. Talk about craziness. If I’d ever had an urge to join one this report cured me of it.
Back in the eighties when I was in college there was a professor who was in his own words not friends but knew LRH. He explained to him that although he had success in science fiction novels "the money is in religion". Just look at all these evangelists today with their lavish lifestyles.
Att.: Ms. Lewis: you can not be an actual Christian AND a Scientologist. Those things are mutually exclusive. They are not cultural categories, they are belief systems; systems that do not work well mixed together. Pick one, please.
Scientology is based on the writings of L.Ron Hubbard, a science fiction author that wasn't any good at story telling, all his books were a flop in sells.
@Mr Glass Not all religions are cults, but all cults are religions. Cults tend to focus around a single supernatural person or figure. Religion is any system of beliefs and rituals that supposedly involve the supernatural
So proud of Ms. Remini and not just being brave enough to leave but to expose this so called church for all the crazy, criminal things they do. I am sure these people that are vocal are being watched closely by this group.
Years ago I attended one of their informational free sessions without realising that it was Scientology. However, as they talked about the cost of obtaining levels, it was clear to me that this was a money making scheme. I could see where the talk was somewhat mesmerising and would appeal to vulnerable people. As it drew to a close, I expected most people in the group to turn to each other and laugh about the speaker thinking he could take us all in. Turns out most seemed really interested. It was a surreal experience. People will believe anything; DJT is proof of that.
John Travolta is absolutely stuck there after secret life information he gave them. I 100 percent believe that after researching. The big thing that I'm sure most people are aware of is his sexuality. If that was the only thing he was worried about getting out to the public, I wish he would just let it out. I think most people would be accepting of it.
David Lavish dude I'm not even religions but I think if the main goal of ur religion is to brainwash, blackmail and extort Peaple for somthing that can be compared to star wars I think it classifies as a cult in mine and many others eyes
You have been hearing bad things about Scientology by the media and politians and the sheep who believe what these people us in Scientology refer to as merchants of chaos who grow richer by causing misery to the poor. Scientology is all about helping people and making the world a better place for everyone. It is still a very new religion and the only major religion to emerge in the 20th century. It is also the only major religion to still have the voice of it's founding fathers preserved. Our founder L Ron Hubbard was an amazing man who basically did it all in his lifetime and was the most prolific writer or all time who produced over 5,000 writings and gave about 3,000 lectures related to Scientology. L Ron Hubbard is without question the greatest philospoher of all time and his books are actually very accessible and if you read even one of them it will open your eyes and drastically change your life. Scientologists also hat Psychiatristy and are going all they can to put an end to Psychiatristic abuse😁
Now that Jason Lee is no longer a member they will get My Name is Earl back on TV-it was the best show on at the time. They need to bring it back-the creator guy has a whole season and a movie already written.
I doubt it will come back for the reason of him not being a scientologist anymore, because he was in the cult while on My Name Is Earl. Also, because the writer Greg Garcia, although not a scientologist, has shown interest in it. Aswell as that, Giovanni Ribisi is one, Ethan Suplee who plays Randy is (and his real life father who plays willie the postman is a scientologist) and also various other cast members of My Name Is Earl. It might suprise some people to know that Bart Simpson (Nancy Cartwright) is a scientologist too.
