AC odyssey was one of the best games I've ever played for exploration, sad to see this game get so much hate over the years, glad I didn't listen to the reviews
Same here! Exploring ancient Greece was a dream come true. In fact, it may even be my favorite open world ever (NMS doesn't count lol), and that's saying something. Thanks for checking out the video and commenting!
I got every assassin's Creed game from playstation plus extra and just downloaded Odyssey cause I've never played assassin's Creed and now I'm addicted
This is a fantastic game - you have hit it right on the head with this video. I don't know how accurate life is portrayed in this game, but I just feel like it is. That is why I have played all of their ancient games. Thanks for taking me back for another visit.
Thanks for watching! I know the developers had to make some compromises when it comes to scale and certain other details, but overall I think they did a fantastic job portraying ancient Greece. They also did a great job with Egypt in AC: Origins. I'll have to do a video on those cities next time! Thank you for watching and supporting my channel!
as a CERTIFIED and NATIVE greeker who lives in athens i must say it kinda caught me off guard how good your pronunciation was when it came to actual greek words, its only when they try to greekify english names where it gets a lil goofy, overall great reviews keep at it
Hahaha That's good to hear! I don't hear much Greek over here in Texas (mostly English and Spanish), so I hoped the pronunciations in the game were somewhat accurate. Thanks for watching and commenting! 🙏
I would venture to put Corinth in number one just because how beautiful the trees and flowers synergize with Greek architecture. I was pleasantly surprised by this video and really enjoyed it alongside your regular NMS videos!Odyssey and Origins were among my favorites and I'm more than excited for the newly announced Mirage (hopefully not a phone game like the other one).
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! My next AC video will be on Origins and I'm really looking forward to it! I'm hyped to 10 for Mirage too! The trailer was the best AC trailer in years. Thanks for watching!
Thats so rad that you’re covering this game! AC Odyssey is the only assassins creed I’ve played besides Black flag and it’s world is what kept me playing!! Every province seems to just ooze with its own flavor of culture and architecture and I have countless hours of just exploring it
Thanks! And definitely! Every region has unique landmarks, towns, characters, stories, secrets, and more. It's one of my favorite open worlds to just explore. Black Flag is great too! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your efforts!!! Athens is my favourite in-game destination too!!❤ Another one that I had such fun was Pefka whose design and exploration made the missions there a great experience!!😊
Thanks for watching! And that region was a lot of fun too! I was obsessed with the Minotaur before I landed on Crete, so all of the tourist traps there were genuinely entertaining.
Fabulous. Along with No Man's Sky, AC Odyssey is my other favourite game of all time. I'm constantly amazed by the level of detail in the world, and agree with you, each city seems distinct and different and it's really brought Greece to life for me. It was also nice to get a tour of the cities when I'm not running for my life !! If you do, by any chance, need any further encouragement to do further AC content, alongside your NMS videos, please don't let me stop you :)
Thank you, friend! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Exploring ancient Greece in Odyssey is one of my all-time favorite game experiences too. Glad to see there are other NMS travelers out there who also enjoy Assassin's Creed. Thanks for your support!
While there’s nothing Assassin related to the game, AC Odyssey’s fighting mechanics, character building/customisation and the absolutely stunning open world puts it in the favourites of my list. The best from the RPG era. The purpose of a video game is to have fun and that’s exactly what this game serves.
Exactly! I understand people wanting certain things from it because it has Assassin's Creed in the name, but I had a lot more fun with it when I let that go and just enjoyed it for what it was. It's also my favorite of the AC RPG games. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Top 10 cities? Wow, the game is that big? I just started playing AC Origins, first time playing a game in this franchise, still in the first city, it looks beautiful. Good fun as well! =)
Odyssey's game world is insanely large. And that's great! AC Origins is a favorite of mine as well. I hope you enjoy it! I'm actually looking forward to my next AC video being on the cities of Origins. Odyssey may have the most cities, and the largest, in the RPG era, but Origins has the most variety. Thanks for watching!
I'd risk moving Korinth to number one. I visited the site last year and it was amazing to be capable of recognizing the temple, streets and the theatre without never being there.
The reason why people felt like; this game doesn't look like an Ac game . Only because you have a ton of other things to do not just "low profile after enemies) you can be an assassin or an explore, warrior, hunter , pirate or even a hero. And much more .. The map size and the details actually encourages you to explore more and do side quests . But it might feel overwhelming if you attend to do everything at once. No you simply can't do that By one run . And feel completion after playing 2 or 3 hours the. Game itself isnt built for this purpose. I sometimes just take my horse and start running all over the map .and trust me it's a fantastic experience with such colourful views all around. After all . I have spent a lot of time playing this game and if you give it a serious try. Jumping all over what the nonsense comments about this game you gonna get the same beautiful experience i had or even better!
Thanks! I try my best. I was out all summer but now I'm finally back to making content, so hopefully I can get those numbers up. 😉 I'm working on another AC Cities video too. Hopefully it'll be ready in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for watching!
@@georgesoul5189 Just some cheeky sarcasm, friend! We're both well aware that Greece and ancient Greece are real, historical places. Thanks for watching!
It is insane how large it is and yet so full of stuff to do at nearly every turn. I think I've put more hours into Odyssey than any other Assassin's Creed.
Earlier this year I committed to playing every main AC game in order. I'm finishing up with Liberation currently and Black Flag is next. People can say a lot of things about this series, but one thing that I think is undeniable is how well they nail the settings.
Korinto and Akrokorinth make me feel like I've been there several times, since it resembles a province of my country where I live, then I love cherry trees and so it makes that city Korinto and Akrokorinth wonderful, I even like it in the game a small village to the north are the only 2 favorite places
in a way, as a centre of kinda empire, i was a bit surprised to see Sparta was so small compared to Athens, which are nearly the size of a region just by itself (i count Piraeus in), until i realized i can pretty well view the entirety of Spartas surrounding villages as one city, spread out over the hills, concerning the atmposphere, i love sparta for how green the surroundings are, plus if were talking about atmoshphere, lets give honourable mention to the lovely and romantic Lalaia, and Naxos
I totally understand! I enjoy each Assassin's Creed for different reasons. With Odyssey I just enjoyed it for its setting and the inherent goofiness of my powers. It's a pretty fun RPG when it's not bogged down by the expectations of the AC series. But I'm hoping to revisit the older games soon, both for fun and in videos. Thanks watching and supporting my non-NMS content! It means a lot.
@@Kanaju man that makes me so happy that I found someone else who just wants to enjoy games! I just think the ac games are fun and each one is different!
@@tomu6859 100%! I love to pick apart games, critique elements, and comment on things, but at the end of the day I play games to have fun. And I agree with you when it comes to Assassin's Creed. Every game is its own particular experience. I'm glad they're always trying new stuff. Keeps things interesting! Can't wait to see what AC: Mirage is all about!
Personally, I prefer Sparta and a number of cities (especially Thasos) over Athens. Thasos and Sparta are beautiful cities, well laid out, and are a mixed bag of structures, levels, and materials. Athens, however, is really sad, other than the slums, the city is an absolute eyesore (which is very problematic considering how important it is to the main story. Almost everywhere I look it's just marble, marble, marble, maybe some granite, marble, marble, and more damned marble. The city is like a lot of depictions I've seen of Heaven or similar ideas, white as oblivion with close to zero substance. But otherwise I find myself mostly agreeing with your choice in the Top 10 and Honorable Mentions. Great video, mate.
Howdy Kanaju! Always awesome to meet a fellow Texan yeeeehaaaaw! Great video and great content man! Please keep it up! You’re dedication to making something you’re proud of is what makes your videos shine! I love NMS but I also love your other content like this that doesn’t always get the attention they deserve! Please keep these sort of videos going! Also I would like to know your thoughts on Assassins creed mirage, and ubisofts take on going back to the OG Assassins creed style?
Thanks, Billy. I appreciate the support! And I'm excited to hear that Mirage might be focusing more on stealth. To be honest, while I love the old games, I feel like I've done more sneaking around and assassinating in the newer games (Syndicate, Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla) than I did in the old games. I'm glad they're going to focus on a single location and pare back some of the RPG mechanics in order to focus on gameplay, but I hope they keep the open-ended nature of the later games as opposed to the more linear missions of the first games. Also, I'd love to see more social stealth elements!
Honestely Korinth is my Favorite because the pink really makes it unique, the in game soundtrack for the area is really nice and you can’t beat the zip line from The Akrocorinth right to the City.
This video really wants to make me explore the fantastical world of Ancient Greece! And call it Builder's disease, but I find myself picking up on architectural features and decoration elements that make the world feel alive and think about how to use them in other games (NMS has rugs too...) :D
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I based my pronunciations for the video on how the locations are pronounced in-game. In regular conversation I would pronounce it as you wrote. I hope that makes sense! I did the same with my Valhalla video, as places like Leicester have specific pronunciations. I think my Origins video is the only one where I slip into modern pronunciations for places like Cyrene. lol I think I was extra sleepy when I made that one. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@Kanaju Oh okay I understand. I see what you did. Went for more the historical pronunciations. I would like to agree then with what you did. Historical accuracy is better!
In retrospect I really should have included it. It's one of my favorite islands. There are just so many cool places! I may do another ranking video later that reorders some choices, so we'll see then! Thanks for watching.
@@Kanaju Or you could do a video where it's your top 10 Greek Island destinations, so that you don't have to redo your top 10 cities. I feel like there are enough islands to warrant their own list!
I loved exploring Origins but I don't really have much interest in Odyssey. I might have been the combat and over-emphasis on leveling, stats and looting. But I also feel like I don't have as much wonder about ancient Greece as ancient Egypt when it comes to cities and culture. I love old movies like "Jason and the Argonauts" and Greek myths about gods and monsters but when it comes to the mundane parts and architecture, it doesn't catch me as ancient Egypt, where people are living on top of 3000 year old history and wonders poking out of the sands.
That's fair! I absolutely love the architecture of ancient Egyptian temples and tombs, so I can relate. I was way more hyped for Origins than for Odyssey back in the day, even though I enjoy classical Greek architecture. I was surprised by how much time I ended up spending in Odyssey after I got it on sale. Now it's possibly my favorite open-world RPG if you can believe it. 🤷♂️ I love both games though. Are you looking forward to AC Mirage?
That's a good question! I really enjoyed my time in that city, though I don't think it would crack the top 10 in this list. It might land in the top #15. When I first got there, after making this video, I thought it would be shoe-in for sure. But after reviewing this list again, Odyssey just has that many great cities. Definitely better than the Isle of Skye on the Valhalla side though. lol Thanks for asking! What about you?
It's a travesty this game takes so much criticism without any reason It's one of the best games I ever played and it's clear they did their research it's not complete fantasy like other games so it was more difficult to make. they did a great job and their work should be recognized instead of made fun of or even hated. By the way in case some people don't know these cities are not fantasy they existed and in some cases still exist and Athens is the biggest city in the game because it was really the biggest and more important city at that time.
In the Discovery Tour you can actually explore in first-person! It gives the world an entirely different feel. Just walking around feels so much more immersive.
Thebes is poorly in AC Odyssey in the Time Theben was the biggest City of Greece with Athen. When the Persians defeated the Spartians and King Leonidas they would marsh to Boetia and Theben. Theben would resist the Persians. Persians would lose at the battle of Salamis and would retreat to Macedonia, Persia but they would burn Athen to the Ground. Maybe Theben rise later in Power i don‘t know? But in History Sparta would beat Athen in the Pelleponnesian War and became the Dominant Force in Greece almost failed to Unite. But Athen would rise up shortly after i think 10-20 Years and kick Sparta out from Greece. But Theben would won and defeat Sparta after that and became the Strongest City in Greece. Later Alexander the Great would end Thebian Hegemony and would destroy the City. Now Theben are Ruins thanks to Alexander Macedon. With the End of Thebe. Macedonia would secure Greece. Sparta would be a Indepandt Vasall of Macedonia. Centuries later Romans would conquer Macedonia and Greece. And biggest Roman Greek City would be Corinth. Sparta would be destroyed later by Gothic Invaders. Alaric would sacked Sparta. In the 18th Century the new Bavarian-Greek King of the Wittelsbacher Dynastie would rebuild Sparta. Today Only Athen, Corinth, Argos remained important Cities. And Thessaloniki but Thessalonik is located in the Games in the Swamps of Macedonia. The City would be formed by Cassander of Macedonia years later after Alexander the Great.
I spend over 300 hours exploring AC Odyssey world. It's an amazing open world. Ubisoft open Wrold team nail every open world they make. Not thier gameplay Designers and writers tho. 🤣
Hahaha I felt this especially with Valhalla. It was such a beautiful take on medieval England, but the loot was lame, combat was janky, and the story went on for aaaaaages. AC Odyssey gets a lot more things right with the different open-world systems at play and a prioritization of gameplay over realism, but its imagining of ancient Greece is honestly what sets it apart. Say what you will about the open-world Assassin's Creed games, but their worlds bring history to life in a way that's unmatched anywhere else. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@themicahbell rdr 2 is overrated piece of garbage and has one of the most uninteresting gun play and level design the world dynamic however is very good given the illusion of a good world design even though it’s just an empty trash, the story is hbo series quality at best
Honestly, Mykonos was originally on the list. I even had footage in that first recording session. Both the Sanctuary of Apollo and Mykonos City would probably be in my top 20. A lot of fun memories on those islands. Perhaps I should have weighed missions a little more heavily against architecture. I'm hoping to eventually do a mega video or series comparing the cities from every game; perhaps I'll include it there! Thanks for commenting!
Thanks and thanks for watching! And yes! Ancient Egypt is one of my favorite historical periods and Origins is one of my favorite games. Not to mention the wide range of locations! There are Egyptian, Greek, and Roman locations to explore. I recently got the DLC, so I have a couple more cities to explore before putting that one together. I can hardly wait though!
I never thought that, among all the channels and creators in RU-vid and tiktok, one would talk about my two favorite games. NMS and AC Odyssey are my go to everytime I want to connect with myself. You're the greatest.
Thanks, Juan! But you're too kind. It's funny because NMS and OC Odyssey are two of my favorite open worlds as well! Thanks for supporting my non-NMS content! Btw, which cities are your favorites in Odyssey?
