It's hard to rank 1967 because of Sgt Pepper, which was a monster of an album. That said, it's not even in my top five Beatles albums. It is a strange year, though. music seemed to be in transition. Hendrix, The Velvet Underground and the Doors hugely influential on what came afterwards over the next ten years.

Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles Although I now put The Beatles in top slot, in ‘67 itself the emergence of Hendrix and Cream overshadowed The Beatles, and everybody else, for me. The Rolling Stones don’t appear because I’ve never been a whole album fan but have always found two or three tracks per album that I like - their first release with ‘Oh Carol’ and ‘Route 66’ still works the best for me.

Yes! to The Rolling Stones, ”Their Satanic Majesties Request”; it rare for me to hear someone praise this under appreciated album. 10 ⭐️. Again, yes! to any of “The Doors” albums; my fav track is “My Eyes Have Seen You”. 👍 {Show me some more!) And yes! to your appreciation of the album “The Velvet Underground w/ Nico”.👍👍 Being more open minded as I’ve matured in years, I’ll give The Monkees” LP a listen 👂. I was snobbish about them during their popularity. Thanks for sharing your Top Ten choices. 🙏 Wishing you enjoyable and happy holidays. P. S. When I read negative & uncivilized comments I’ll imagine they originate from sad, angry & lonely people. Even though I can emphasize with their blight, rightly so, you should block them.

Great top 10 list Larry. I'm glad to see Magical Mystery Tour getting the recognition it deserves. It's not an official Beatles album. So what. All the songs are from 1967 so you could hardly call it a greatest hits compilation . It is as much of a reflection of The Beatles musical approach in 67 as Pepper is. By the way you pronounce Majesties the same way as you pronounce Her Majesty as in the song. You just need to add an S.

1 Forever Changes - Art Lee's Love One of the best albums ever. 2 Buffalo Springfield Again - Buffalo Springfield Mr Soul, Hung Upside Down, Expecting to Fly. A top 10 all-time. 3 Velvet Underground - Banana album. 4 Are You Experienced - The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Revolutionary. The first hard rock album. 5 The Doors - The Doors By far their best album. Before excesses set in for Jim 6 The Who Sell Out - The Who This is their best album. I never am impressed with Concept Albums. They can be forced, coerced, compelled, constrained, and obligated to crap. Well not Ziggy Stardust, just generalizing. But I just like the songs on The Who Sell Out 7 Axis: Bold As Love - Jimi Hendrix Experience. Little Wing is a fav. The Move join Jimi on You Got Me Floating. 8 Mr. Fantasy - Traffic 9 Reach Out - 4 Tops 10 Magical Mystery Tour Beatles and better than St Peppers. 11. Days of Future Past Moody Blues. 12 Sgt. Peppers - Beatles' Best song is A Day in the Life. Songs like Good Morning and Lovely Rita and others like Within /without/whatever!! I don't like it. so overrated. 13 Walk Away Renée/Pretty Ballerina album - The Left Banke.

I will correct you, Larry :) "Their Satanic Majesties Request" is pronounced the same way as "Her Majesty"
@elc1960
@elc1960 Год назад
Re the Traffic thing: You are correct - Mr. Fantasy is their first album. In the States it was entitled Heaven Is in Your Mind. One of my all time favorite Monkees tracks is on Pisces, Aquarius etc.: "What Am I Doing Hangin' 'Round?", co-written by that "Wildfire" guy, Michael Murphey and Owen "Boomer" Castleman. When my friend Joe lived in Georgia he was in a power pop band named Star Collector, after that Monkees song. As for my choices from '67, they include: The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced? and Axis: Bold as Love The Byrds - Younger Than Yesterday The Doors - Strange Days and their self-titled debut Buffalo Springfield - Again The Monkees - Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. Bob Dylan - John Wesley Harding The reason there aren't more albums is because as a child of 7 in 1967, I was more into collecting singles then if I did get a record. I became more aware of rock albums after I turned 11 and my friend Mike's older brother Dennis turned me on to music outside the realm of the Top 40 when I overheard him playing albums by The Grateful Dead, Santana, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Black Sabbath and the like.

1967 might have the largest number of good/great albums because most artists released at least two albums that year. Some other great albums you didn't mention include Disraeli Gears by Cream, I Never Loved a Man the Way I Loved You and Aretha Arrives by Aretha Franklin, John Wesley Harding by Bob Dylan, the You Only Live Twice soundtrack by John Barry, the Jungle Book soundtrack, On Stage and in the Movies by Dionne Warwick and Green Green Grass of Home by Tom Jones.

Here's my top ten from 1967, although I have a lot of albums tied for 9th place. This was an easy win for The Who, with a bigger gap in the number of plays between my #1 and #2 than any of the other places. As it's the 1960s, again I seem to have more blues albums than expected. I've always seen Magical Mystery Tour as an EP as I don't remember seeing it in the UK until the CD age. 1 The Who Sell Out - The Who 2 Forever Changes - Love 3 Are You Experienced? - Jimi Hendrix 4 Something Else By The Kinks 5 Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles 6 Born Under A Bad Sign - Albert King 7= A Hard Road - John Mayall 7= West Side Soul - Magic Sam 9= Buffalo Springfield Again - Buffalo Springfield 9= Crusade - John Mayall 9= Days of Future Passed - Moody Blues 9= John Wesley Harding - Bob Dylan 9= Nina Simone Sings The Blues - Nina Simone 9= Stand Back - Charlie Musselwhite 9= The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground 9= You Got My Mind Messed Up - James Carr

While I'll concede that, in terms of pop music, the Beatles are the GOAT, you gave them both the number 1 _and_ number 2 spots for 1967?!? No Moodies? No Airplane? But you get extra credit for appreciating Beefheart. 😉 '67 is too tough to narrow down to 10 (or I'm just too lazy to try). Even the schmaltziest bands had some substance that year.

I got and love almost everything of these 5: Moody Blues Days Of Future Passed, I grew up with it on 8-track. Bee Gees 1st, grew up with Bee Gees 20 Greatest Hits from 78 which had lots of songs off 1st. Charley Pride Pride Of Country Music, I've always loved his voice. Elvis How Great Thou Art, I've always loved his voice too. The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour, I'm basically mostly a McCartney & Wings fan. JustJP is my favorite music reaction channel. Wobbler is from my country. I prefer the band Jordsjø, and I found Jordsjø because of JustJP. Introducing Sparks seem to be a bit rare to find on CD, and it's still on my wish list. I love Good Vibrations off Smiley Smile, but Beach Boys I mostly just love a song here and there. Same with The Monkees. Randy Scouse Git (named Alternate Title) is my earliest memory. The 1980's are really my generation but I let myself be inspired by older family members. I love the song The Last Waltz by Engelbert Humperdinck from 67. 1-2-6 Graveyard Paradise is a norwegian hit from 67.

I would also include Miles Smiles and Disraeli Gears by Cream. Do you like them?

Haven't heard that Miles album and never really got into Cream but have a two disc set which I think covers all their studio albums. I like them but not a favorite.

Larry, forget about the knuckleheads who get offended because your taste doesn't match theirs. I would just block them.

I do in time... there are just certain viewers who are always negative or only leaving comments when I make an error, but I try and tolerate them up to a point. Thanks!

Why are only the albums in your top 10 list that you have a physical copy of? I've never seen an album in your top 10 list that you don't have a copy of.

Because I collect CDs, and I love all the albums, so why wouldn't they be in my CD collection??

Brilliant question Patrick, definitely one for Sherlock Holmes that one 🤣 I own all my favourite albums too, I am so weird like that 😂

@@jimmycampbell78 Exactly. Larry presents a ranking of his favorite albums here. But it was supposed to be a ranking of the best albums of 1967. He simply leaves out albums he doesn't own from his list. Even if they are better. If Larry doesn't own an album, then that album doesn't exist. For example, Deep Purple "Burn" from 1974, just didn't show up in the rankings because Larry doesn't have a copy of it. And this despite the fact that "Burn" is without a doubt the best hard rock album of 1974. As Larry puts it, it's not an objective and decent list. He shows viewers the albums he has in his collection. Nothing else. . Anyway, I wonder if someone with such a small record collection as Larry should even make a RU-vid video like this. Check out Peter Pardo or Norman Maslov - these guys have something real to offer.

@@patrickschlosser8208 He says in all of these videos that this is not really a list of the best albums, but a list of his favorites. I always submit my list and yeah, it is just the albums I own. If I don't own them, I don't know them well enough to rate them. Some of the albums I own, I haven't listened to enough to rate them.

@@debjorgo OK, but then he can't write "TOP 10 CLASSIC ROCK ALBUMS OF 1967" in the headline. Then he has to write "Larry's album list from 1967"

I really enjoy your videos, and like your little speech on personal opinion. I also like your list, and only feel that you are missing Cream: Disraeli Gears. The Beates at #1 is predictable, however I think that Sgt. Pepper is an overrated album... I understand it's cultural significance, and it's 'production value' - but to me it is quite pretentious, and a number of the songs are just not very good (e.g. When I'm Sixty Four and Lovely Rita.) I would probably put The Doors debut on the top spot, but hey, that's just my opinion🙂

Where the hell is How Great Thou Art by Pat Boone? This is an OUTRAGE!!. Ha ha just being a dumbass. I wish I knew more works from 1967 besides all the greats. Piper at the Gates, Velvet Underground Nico, Sgt Pepper. I could probably put together a top ten list but it would be all the usual ones because those are obviously the ones that carried through most prominently to my generation. I'll have to check out the Monkees and Cap'n Beefheart albums, thanks for the recommend.
