Wow, i don't know why i underestimated this guide when i saw the title. I was expecting the usual "you can chamber by attacking at the right time" instead i got this fantastic guide with things i've never thought of. don't know why i expected something else of you.
I tried to keep the repeat info to a minimum, although it's tough because I put out about 100 guides at this point so I can't remember it all lol Thanks for watching and I'm glad it was useful :)
Another thing to keep in mind playing as calvary is try to keep your shield side towards the mass amount of enemies when turning i catch tons of arrows without blocking just cause they happen to nail it instead of me
Seriously, not bad. But first, you have to be with NO army to make those horses charge only at you, but... ... Which armies only come with horse units? Also... ... If you lock yourself in the castle to take out the defenders by shooting one by one, this is really too long for me. I rather use 200 men to break in upon a 500 men castle, or at times 700 to 800 men defending, and slash them with the falx from behind quickly. Once the morale falls enough, they will flee. And it will be less time and more time for other quests. Entertaining tips, but not so realistic. I gave the video a like for the entertainment value. Hehehehe~
The way you captured the castle was amazing. Just when I think I'm getting good at the game, you throw something else in and make me go back to the drawing board. Excellent stuff.
I can't wait for the day when most of these aren't possible because the AI isn't dumb :) Until then, we can run circles around the AI lol Thanks for watching!!
10:35 just a quick note, to speed up killing the infantry and to maximize rout, try taking the stones out of the gatehouse to throw on their heads from the walls. Since it has AOE, you’ll kill upwards of 10 each time you throw one into the blob. Some castles, primarily imperial ones, have the nafta jugs, which can knock out even more. This is NOT the case if you use the ammo for a catapult on the ramparts. For some reason those stones will only ever knock out one guy at a time regardless of the proximity of other troops.
Yeah I noticed that too, I think it was 1.7.2 they nerfed the rocks! It would only down 1 opponent and do 5 - 10 damage to a few others around them. I'm still not sure if that is a bug or intentional??
@@Strat-Guides I guess it would be way too OP if you could just forget about using the catapults and have four times as many stones to use at ladders and siege towers, so they have to be “activated” by the catapult to get their damage potential. Still, if balance were the case they would scrap the ability for people to exploit the retreat button.
@@bladfadsfblaadsfsadf900 I wish they had wheel Barrows at the fortifications so you could wheel out a bunch of those stones not just carry one at a time, but maybe the Wheel hasn't been invented in Calradia?
@@Strat-Guides I'm playing on 1.7.3 (latest GOG version) and the stone nerf is brutal. In 1.6.something they'd instakill everything. At first i thought it was my throw level, but nope. Even maxed out they do barely nothing.
My favorite way to siege a Castle is to go in with 4 fire mangonels, no ram, no siege tower. put all melee units on hold at the start and let the range pick people off in the walls and man the mangonels to shell the enemy. By the time the mangonels are out of ammo a good half of the defenders are dead. The problem is some troops keep trying to put the ladders up which gets them killed, but it also draws the defenders to the ladders, giving the mangonels some juicy targets.
Yeah that's sooo annoying! I like to do something similar and it drives me nuts when they do that. If you use the siege towers, they stop trying once it gets to the walls at least, but still we should have control over our own troops...
I would like to add extra tip, with two-handed axe you can swing not only threw infantry, but horse as well and none of cavalry able to block attack under their butt.
a channel called spartan gaming also found something similar to el matador using a spicific sturgian castle map. the units will just fall to their death from a cliff. and the even funnier thing is that you don't even need to do anything special. you just sit with your shield up.
When you fight on foot against soldiers with shields. The easiest way to get them out of intablock mode is to hold W, as if you push it, it makes them try to land a hit. Also, if he is using a thrown weapon, it will mini stun them leaving him vulnerable to a sword slash.
Yeah it's nice to return the mini stun favor! The only thing about that is the AI is decent about pulling their sidearm out quickly. Thanks for watching!!
As of patch 1.8, kicks are much easier to land against an AI opponent since for some reason in this patch the AI loves to get as close as to you regardless of the equipped weapon reach. If you have a weapon with fast swinging speed, a kick quickly followed by an overhead strike is almost always a guaranteed free hit. Also when fighting outnumbered against shielded infantry, there's a chance that an attack gets blocked by a shield held by another infantry behind the one you are targeting. This happens more often when using a weapon with longer reach and not spacing out far enough.
Lol that's true, they are like rabbit animals trying to bite you lol Good point about the overhead, it seems to be the most reliable. Actually, you can chamber the swing before you kick, then release it almost at the same time the kick lands and it's impossible to block. The shields from the side/behind blocking is so annoying! I've been overrun before because I couldn't deal with all the shields even with kicks lol sad times :(
Gosh this video was cool. I look forward to seeing playthroughs you do where you incorporate these tricks into the playthrough. Maybe a "cheesiest Bannerlord run" some time after you're starting to run out of video ideas (so not any time soon :D ). Cool thing about this is my friends are on vacation right now, so when they get back and we hang out next, I'll be showing them this video for the "OH MY GOD!" reactions they'll give when they see your solo castle capture. :D I live for it. Love the content. Hope this comment feeds the algorithm.
Hahaha That would be fun - I was thinking about a solo character until kingdom creation run... might be interesting lol no compnions, no troops, just shenanigans and take a fief solo. That would be pretty epic! I'm curious - what did you think of the intro? I'm not sure I like it, but I couldn't think of anything else better and it tied into the first tip so I figured I would run with it. Would love to hear some good feedback on it for improvement though!
@@Strat-Guides I'll get you more feedback when my friends come back from vacation, but I was confused by it at first, and was honestly like, "What in the world...?" (slightly negative) until I saw it actually related to the video, and wasn't just weird randomness. I think that effect can work though, as it gives you the "Aha!" moment that's pretty neat.
I'm happy to help! Thanks for watching :) I have a video in on the list for that! Although It might even be easier just to look them up on the database, I have it posted on the Discord. The hard part is the answer will change depending on what you need - culture, stats, future potential, etc.
I like to combine the cavalry tips with the "5000 IQ Berserker Strat" of swinging behind you (From Guiden's meme videos) and a custom long-shafted Voulge for a polearm, backed up by a similarly long-hafted two-hander of an axe. On foot, just run away and scythe behind you. On the charge, you can couch and run through or just run along that outer line of infantry, swinging wildly in the direction of your charge, to cause tons of "cleave-through" headshot damage. The axe is for breaking shields, with appropriate perks. The downside to this is that you have no shield, so don't try it until you've got suitably massive armor, but you can still take a bow or crossbow, which helps. Then loot all butter after the battle for Swadian energy.
@@Strat-Guides Couldn't tell ya. Never tested it a major battle. My main strat is to weaken the enemy by charging WAY ahead first on the fastest horse I can get, taking out missile cavalry, headhunting some generals if I can, and avoiding the dreaded red "Couch lance strike" by turning aside at the last moment so they clothesline themselves on either the blade or the pole. Bonus points for impressive tumbles and max damage at full tilt. It really is a LOT of fun. Like dogfighting with jets, but on horses. And once part of the weakened enemy army is focused on me, I charge them in the back with ALL the heavy cavalry. Not because it's the most effective, not with the AI turning around like it does, but because it's absolutely glorious to watch cavalry smash things.
I know what you mean, I took an almost year long break before. They are getting close to full release so I'm hopeful they get things sorted out soon! Thanks for watching :D
Yissss, finally Strat is soloing a castle! And you even used the same castle (or any of the 20 that use the same layout lol)! Also... what about mounted axe tips? From my experience axes are the best mounted weapons, specially vs other mounted units.
Lol how about a world conquest solo...? I have no clue if it's possible but it sounds goofy and interesting lol I like a long 2H axe or 175 - 200 length swingable polearm, BUT I honestly think thrusting polearms that can couch lance are slightly better. They don't do as much damage, but I feel like it's much safer to use (the point of attack is in front of our horse, swing weapons we have to be right next to them) so the overall damage throughout a big battle is more. Plus you can use a shield with thrusting polearms!
World conquest solo by taking all castles is impossible because people will just make multiple sieges and you can't garrison very well. Its actually how Yeethild's run went: i got two more clans to help with the defense, solo sieged almost every castle, and chopped heads as needed to keep enemy numbers low. You can do it by chopping heads until you're the last noble alive and just inherit it, but that involves no sieging at all. That's how my autoresolve-only run went. Autoresolving sieges is a big no, so i just ran around with 200-ish cavalry killing everyone. As for the axes: my experience with couching is very meh, but axes can shred archer lines and give you a pretty good damage vs other cav. That being said, i do agree couching is safer.
P.S.: I strongly recommend doing 2-3 solo castles on any given run just for the athletics/bow/crossbow exp. But they get repetitive after a while, so i only do them afterward on emergencies such as if a larger army is about to break the siege and we need to hide inside. This might also be a patch thing, but i can't hit people with ballistae on castles anymore. On some cities its possible (and glorious!) but never on castles for some reason. I think the AI started getting closer to the walls on 1.7.3.
Bro did named himself khalid bin walid for real, since you are a fan of him can you please give us a wonderful video about you trying some of his war techniques? I don't really know much about thay of his, I just know that he was absolutely one of the greatest minds when it comes to wars
The heavier your charge and your armor, the more you can do I have found. Love using cataphract Lance from horseback, despite being unable to couch it. It can do alot of damage and pain.
when dealing with shield inf formations with a couch lance you can take them head on. you just need to jump your horse into the line. the couch will still connect as well as bowling pin all the inf, but your horse cant get staggered mid air and the tards in the back dont know whats coming.
I know, it's really bad! I was so confused for the longest time, especially in tournaments when I had throwing axes (Sturgia tournaments) and now I know why!
You are really good. Hahahahaha... ... As a commander not with game mechanics, I basically advance a horde of horse archers right before the enemies, shoot them down while cavalry is charging from behind, usually at the flank and while a column of infantry is in front of the horse archers to waylay the enemies' initial advance... ... After their morale got a gap, then the slaughtering starts... ... No tricks, just like that. So my army consists usually about 20% infantry, 30% horse archers and 40% to 50% cavalry, taking alongside cavalry prisoners to replenish lost cavalry troops. Whenever possible a major charge be, my cavalry will charge from the side not the front or back, but directly left or right of you when you are facing the front, so that their entire line is 'eaten' from the tip and a bigger hole in morale is possible. This is when the infantry will also be charging to make sure the enemies will be facing them. Quickly they lose their flank and we reach their back on horses, and enemies find themselves sandwiched, they shield their fronts but expose their backs to me. And chop chop chop away, the morale of enemies falls so fast... ... 1500 troops be defeated. Then the horse archers will charge after infantry and cavalry, and usually picking up the escaping troops. Your first tip is good, hilarious, however... ... I can't do that with an army of my own there. Hahahahaha... ... But it was quite a good show. The AI seems to be responding by learning my tricks... ... but military formations and advances are very 'dead', it is very hard to break the way I advance on AI troops. Best when they resort to walls formation, I will just let the archers soften them up, then forcing them to charge. And my cavalry will be charging directly from the side when they are charging to my infantry layer to reach the horse archers. I never will use a bow, so... ... and I will not use archers but only horse archers. Running shooting units when AI will have a good chance aiming for the horses makes horse archers like some tanks when horses can regenerate in next battle for free. And I always use a falx, before the armies clash to take on the generals and the enemy cavalry. Best weapon in the game. Your tip is fun, but not realistic.
If you want a more realistic siege place your infantry behind the catapults etc. Works best without ram towers (AI always push them forward even though they’ve been given the order to halt etc) you will take casualties let the catapults use all their ammo then retreat. Rinse and repeat!
@@Strat-Guides Thanks for the reply my friend, just got this on console after pouring in thousands of hours into warband on console too. Currently I'm just trying to decide what's more worth it for the settings, fidelity or performance, any personal thoughts? Forgot to say I'm playing on the series x if that makes any difference and on a 144hz monitor. I've been screwing around and while I like the 1000 total troop count on fidelity, 40 fps is a bit too low. On the other hand performance is only 500 troops Max and its 60-120fps to uncapped. I'm playing on 144hz currently on my monitor settings and playing with uncapped fps on performance makes it FEEL and LOOK slightly choppier and screen teary, at least I think so when I compare it to capping it at 60fps.
I wouldn't say top tier loot, but they do give decent drops for the very early game :) Each time you clear a gang from the city, you'll get 500 denars flat plus so loot drops which can sell for 1k - 3k denars so it's not bad! Thanks for watching!!
Tried adding mods to the game and now the formations are fucked. The scald or wedge formation has them standing in loose formation. Don’t know how to fix it.
Yeah it was buffed a little, but the big difference it making sure you have 275 riding and a good top tier horse. I recommend scouting perk Beast Whisperer (I think it's 175?) that allows you to passively find rare horses. This one was called Pureblood and has amazing charge damage!
The castle tip is great! But wouldn’t that only work for the first wave of enemies? The next wave would then spawn inside and then you’ll get mobbed by them, or am I missing something?
Good question! So once you retreat your units, the enemy will spawn their units up to 999 (depending on your unit cap, I did this with 1000, so 999 + 1). If they have more in the garrison than 1k units then yes they will spawn inside. That shouldn't be an issue though since it's pretty rare to see a fief with more than 1k units on defense. And if there is, you can probably starve them out quickly and then start the siege. Thanks for watching!!
now i want to know how you locked the melee units outside the castle because i just tried that tip of taking a castle solo and they didn't care about it, they just opened the door and came storming for me in my lonely little tower
So after you retreat your units, sit in the back for a while, let all the melee units come out and do a few laps around them. If any melee troops are still stuck inside the walls, they will eventually go down and open the doors back up. Ranged units do NOT open the doors so it's just melee troops we are worried about here. Once you're sure there are no more melee units inside, just ride into the gates, close the front ones and then you can proceed to murder the militia from there :) I suspect there was a straggler inside still that came down and opened the doors up on you, it happens to me sometimes as well. I like to take a tower that has vision on the main gate. If you see someone running for it, be sure to pick them off before they reach it or the flood of melee will come for you lol
@@Strat-Guides now that you mention it, there was a guy that stabbed me in the back while i was shooting, then nothing happened then i got swarmed, damn and i though all of them left since i never saw anyone on my way to the castle
@@Strat-Guides i did find another solution, i said it in your discord. - Start the fight, then run, fight will end. - Start conversation with one on way back, wait as rest walk back, then fight 1v1 and run Make sure to pull weapon out before talking that way it's out already and you get free hits. Rinse repeat
It's a bit tricky, try looking at different parts of where the door will be once it's shut. There's a small hitbox that you need to be over to do that. It's a bit silly tbh.
There is a quiver in the Khuzait lands that has more - I think it's 37? Then you add in the perks and you can have a ton. No mods used for this video, it's all vanilla :)
It's 2 things - having a good horse and high riding skill. So the scouting perk that picks up horses at random can spawn a pureblood for you if you're lucky (I usually get 1 per year or so) or you can win decent ones from tournaments. For this video I had a character set to 300 skill with the final perk and the extra charge damage perk from level 25 so when you combine all of those things it's actually meaningful! The starter horses and low riding will usually do nothing. I hope that helps! Thanks for watching :D
@@Strat-Guides I'll have to retry when I get back home later today but when I tried earlier, I'm pretty sure I did it wrong. I had an army as we've been in a constant series of wars with the north and west empire and after I retreated the units it started spawning in reinforcements 🙄 haha. So, will try it again WITHOUT the army and yeah I'll drop a comment if all goes well. *Hopefully* my party isn't too big or some other stupid thing.
someone can recomend me a way to eliminate a kindom in a way the lords just don`t randomly declare war on me and raid mi villages, even tough they don`t have even one castle and i have killed their leaders over 12 times, the fact than i have over 100 prisioners of one faction is stupid, i`m tired of killing them again and again, please tell me a mod than do that for me
Lol you could pay them off but they usually want a ridiculous amount for it - considering they are landless lords! Gotta love Bannerlord late game. IMO, just execute them and move on. There isn't a good way around it otherwise (that I'm aware of).
@@Strat-Guides with all recommended mods as well? (Diplomacy,RTS ETC) Which are recommended for RMB. I will check into your playlist. Plus you are doing great work really enjoyed your tips and gameplay. 👏🏻
Tricking animals into running off a cliff is a historical hunting method known as a Buffalo Jump. There's a cliff in Canada where this was done that's preserved as a world heritage site called "Head-Smashed-In".
Oh wow, that's pretty cool! I've seen other animals do it like eagles dragging animals off cliffs, but man that sounds brutal lol I may have to take a trip up north soon then. Thanks for sharing that info, I'm sure I'll remember it for some random trivia 20 years from now :D
These tips are great! I guffawed at the opening cavalry plunge, and I'll definitely be solo-castling and enjoying a few flagons of ale over the weekend. Thanks for putting the video together, Strat!
Lol I was working on a strategy to get the infantry to do the same, but they are much more cautious. I could get it to work like 50% of the time but didn't think that was reliable enough to recommend it. Thanks for watching and I'm happy to hear this info will be put to use!
I know about the cavalry plunge because i lost many of my elite cataphracts to one once, we where just routing the enemy, and where charching them down near a cliff, so i call all cavalry to mee and we ride around them and charche the fleeing troops from the side....... and why is there a cliff here.
These are some amazing tips. I'll definitely be incorporating some of them into my play. Although cavalry suicide and solo castle taking is too immersion breaking for my taste :)
It could work in real life but maybe only once, the cav trick, people have also used this method to hunt driving animals off cliffs, but yeah some people can get really reckless when their blood is up and they are chasing someone who they think is an easy kill.
Weird. I thought tricking the defenders to come out only to lock them outside was a common tactic. No, not really. Hilarious, though. I'll break some immersion for some laughs any day. :)
This guy has 400 comments and still reacts to every single one, what a legend. I recently bought bannerlord and your video’s are SO HELPFUL, informative, straight to the point, funny, and you have a good voice. Don’t stop making video’s man, you have a talent for this and you’re putting the work, Awesome!
I'm trying to! It's getting to the point where it's nearly impossible unless I dedicate 3 - 4 hours per day responding lol so now I try to at least respond to 1st comments and a few replies if they are questions. Thanks man, I appreciate that :) Thanks for the support
@@Strat-Guides I just want to say, your edits, are friggin awesome...the added jokes are what make you videos far more entertaining cause they're unexpected and just classic, awesome work.
I accidentally found the Matador technique during a cliffside battle where I was outnumbered, and hilarity ensued. One quick question: does swapping the ranged weapon (ie javelin) to melee mode cancel the quick stun risk?
Lol yeah I think the first time it happened for me I was trying to get Dirthert off my tail and to my shock he just went flying lol Yeah switching to melee mode stops the stuns!
Another good use for horse-strafing is during (the first round of) a tournament. When there are lost of cavs in the round, they usually have a traffic-jam situation in the arena near an obstacle (for example the space between the broken-down cart and the wall). If you are equipped with a pole-arm it is much better to turn your horses-head towards the middle of the arena and then strafe towards the traffic-jam. When close enough, start pricking anything you can prick and the moment you see the jam come apart, give your horse the spurs and ride away to 'safety'. This works well because you don't have your horses-head in the way of your pole-arm (pricking to the side is easier aiming than pricking towards the front) and you can get out of the jam whenever you want to (turning your horse around and then ride off takes a lot more time).
Fighting archers and javelins on horseback (and to a lesser extent on foot) is easier if you weave in a very slight S pattern, they aim where you're going to be if you keep going the way you were, and by weaving you can throw their aim off almost all of the time.
Strat, I've been playing Mount and Blade for over a decade now and you've shown me things that have taken - even my multiplayer gameplay up a level. You're awesome dude.
oh wow I went in with this video thinking I knew all about these tips, but I didn't think about trying to cheese sieges by soloing them, that's pretty neat. I always make it a point to commit to a siege because they're a fun spectacle but sometimes it gets old and you just want to get it over with without losing troops.
I tried to include a couple of the more obscure tips in this one, something for everyone :D Yeah I know what you mean, it can be frustrating losing so many troops to a siege. Thanks for watching!
Lance is traditionally 0 investment over horsemanship in m&b games- in bannerlord it is essentially an xp farm as xp is based on damage. Their dps so to speak is trash but they will eat through a shield too. Tl;dr gives you something to do as a non warrior vs cavalry as you can't run them over.
A good way to practice blocking is to throw yourself into the fires of multiplayer. If you can find a game, it’s quite a challenge. Some of those guys are scary good
I am thinking most of these have made it over to "full release". Really impressive video, made me want to play it, even tho I am struggling mightily. Any plans to do console specific videos? I might just get a keyboard for this game.
Thanks for watching! I don't own any consoles at the moment but am considering it. For now I'll keep to PC though. It would be a good idea for me to at least know the controls because I get a lot of questions about that.
Last one reminded of me tactics used by Jack Sparrow to steal HMS interceptor in the first Pirates of the caribbean. As Sun Tzu says “All warfare based on deception”
Haha I can just imagine one of those memes, it's a picture of a beautiful seaside cliff with Chengis in the corner and a caption "I fear no man, but that thing... it scares me!"
Well, yesterday playing with the ability to make the horse move sideways, I discovered that you can make it climb the steps of the cities in this way. Something that refuses to do it frontally.
Oh cool, time for some castle parkour! lol Yeah I noticed that, the stairs block forward movement so I usually just turn around back walk backwards up the stairs. TW maths I guess?
