Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today discussing BOOKS vs FILMS - honing in on some of the darkest BOOK moments that, for varying reasons, simply never made their way on to the silver screen.
While the film adaptations brought the magic of Hogwarts to life on the big screen, they were not without their limitations. In the process of adapting the complex and intricate world of the books into a more visually-driven medium, certain dark and unsettling moments were omitted or altered, leaving fans with a somewhat diluted version of Rowling's original vision. Today, we’ll delve into these dark moments left out of the films, exploring the reasons behind their omissions and the impact of these changes on the overall story.

Yes; in the book the Death Eaters tortured muggles. Why did they make the Death Eaters' appearance at the Quidditch world cup look more like an induced hysteria than a real danger in the 4th movie? Which is not fair; Because they were supposed to be blood supremis terrorists like in the books; like the racist KKK. Instead they portray Death Eaters like a comedian's rendition of the KKK😓in the movies.

That was probably to keep it not too high rated for viewing. Reading that in a book is ok for a 10 year old, seeing it on a screen would be quite hard for a lot of 10 year olds.

Right. I love how in the books Harry mentally remarks that the house smelled of old meat. In the movies it is just basically implied that Bathilda's body was rotting in the house (you don't see it but you see Hermione walked up on it and you can see/hear flies buzzing around it and there is blood). So I guess they were just supposed to have disguised Nagini as Bathilda in the films? Either way it made for a pretty cool looking transformation. I hope they take more liberties like this (regardless of the fact that these liberties may be a little darker, they are far more interesting and also would be satisfyingly accurate) in the 7-season TV show they are making

Winky's story was so terribly sad. It's easy to overlook because the house elves are somewhat background characters in the early books. But she was so deeply traumatized that it destroyed her life. It's heart breaking.

And Hermione went about it the wrong way too. Trying to say "Oh you're better off without Mister Crouch," Etc. isn't necessarily the best way to try and comfort Winky when Winky had devoted her life to Mister Crouch. Props to Hermione for trying, but the way she tried didn't do much for Winky at all.

I agree so much and in the HL game a house elf dies of starvation in a cave infested with spiders bc his own wants him to get Potion ingredients for his shop! And the worst part is this nasty letter from the master saying if he didn't get more than expected next time he saw him he was going to abuse him till he bled and take more than just his food!

I remember being so terrified when Barty Crouch Jr was narrating his deeds and how he killed his father and transfigurated him into a bone. I found it so dark, even for a deatheater as cruel and soulless as Barty was.

It’s cruel, but so is keeping someone under an imperius curse after breaking him out of prison and leaving his mom to day in his place. Neither are great. He knew what his son was, if he’d been an actually father to him who’s to say it wouldn’t have turned out differently.

@@Fujoshi1412 That's also true. But let's not forget that not every child who has had a terrible childhood/the absence of a father figure, turns out to be evil. Barty chose to act on his evilness and also chose to join the dark forces of Voldemort. It's true Barty senior was a terrible father, but that's not an excuse for Barty Jr's choices at all.

Molly's bogart was the worst. It is made worse when you realize that the reason she saw the twins together was that even in death she could not see them separated which would eventually happen anyway.

The whole thing about Dumbledore's past is barely touched upon in the movies and it's pretty dark. Movie Dumbledore is basically kept as a clean hero through and through, but in the books it's made clear that in his youth he was all up on dominating the muggles and not caring about his family. It took his sister's death to finally get him to see reason, and it's still up in the air if it was his spell the one that killed her.

He was all about dominating muggles but he was caring about his family. He was going to travel the world with his friend and decided against it to take care of his family. He didn't care through the eyes of his brother, but that's quite common that two people care about each other but don't see the other one's care.

The fact that Neviels parents were alive was revealed even earlier when Harry saw the trial of B.C.J in the Pencive but Dumbledore asked him not to tell anyone because he wanted Nevile to reveal this secret when he was ready, and Harry kept the promise

Molly Weasley is also a mirror of Voldemort use of Horcruxes. Like Voldemort, Molly Weasley splits her soul seven times (but unlike Voldemort not including on in herself) to immunise herself against death, but in her case openly in the form of her six children: Bill, Charlie, Percy, identical twins Fred and George, Ron, and Ginny. Like Voldemort she accidentally makes a seventh Horcrux (which in Molly’s case I’m going to call an Amorelux) in the form of Harry whom she unofficially adopts (takes into her heart) and who marries her beloved daughter, Ginny. Even if Molly dies her soul lives on through her children, but unlike a Horcrux, an Amorelux is not a selfish attempt to preserve oneself and in fact becomes stronger through self-sacrifice. In the case of an Amorelux, it is created through an act of love (not murder) and is another form of ancient magic discussed here far stronger than dark magic, which in many ways is a poor imitation of real magic.

It was pretty dark when Dumbledore had to explain himself to Harry in the very clean King's Cross Station after Voldemort tried to kill him. Very little of that was in the movie.

The grey back part in the books was so insanely dark, it emphasised how far the books went from a pretty standard kids book to talking about raping hermione

if you really thought that it only shows how f-ed your brain is because it was never implied he wanted to do this he wanted to turn her. thats what he is known for. biting people (preferably children as young as possible) to turn them into werewolves Bill Weasly was bitten by him and so was Remus Lupin, as a child no less never was there any mention of him r*ping people. thats your brain, not Rowlings

I would not consider the incident with Montague as the twins torturing him. Torture implies intent...their only intent was to put him out of action for a while. His ordeal after that were unintended consequences. I do agree with a previous poster that they definitely tortured Filch, emotionally and mentally but never physically.

I was just going to write this, but scrolled first to see if anyone else wrote it first. Fred and George didn't plan this, or intend to Montague to get stuck in limbo. It just happen to be there when the Twins took action. They thought they actually sent him to a location...Their action would've been the same if there was just a door to an empty class room.

Lmao students just BREATHING « tortured » filch tbh. That man was a walking aneurism waiting to happen 😂. There’s a theory that he is also a poltergeist, the flip side of peeves being animated by energy of rule breaking, Filch is passionate of rule Following. To the point of shouting « students out of bed » during the battle of Hogwarts 😂.

Any "torturing" of Filch was written as a case of just deserts. Filch was a cruel and sadistic person to all of the students. Even in the first year he talks about wanting to hang kinds up by their thumbs.

Dumbledore drinking the poison in the cave and breaking down maybe deserved a mention. The most powerful and unflappable character in the series, the ultimate reassurance to Harry and the reader, breaking like that was hard to read as a kid.

In Chamber of Secrets, there was a deleted scene where Harry apparates inside Borgans and Burke after shouting "Digan Ally". There he stumbles upon Lucius and Draco enter the store with Lucius pawning off some of the dark artifacts. In the book, this is alluded to again later on when Harry and Ron polyjuiced themselves into looking like Crabb and Goyle, when Draco was discussing with them how their fathers are hiding their dark magic artifacts in their homes. Information which Ron later passes onto Arthur, allowing him to confiscate his entire collection.

I agree with the picks. Cutting Winky from movie 4 was a critical mistake because she is a crucial character in book 4. There are few tragic moments in the books that I want to see on screen: 1.The Longbottoms being tortured. The books told us about it but just imagine how powerful it will be to see it on screen. 2.The death of uncle Remy and Tonks. Give us the duels HBO Max between Lupin and Dolohov/Tonks and Bellatrix. 3.Speaking of The Battle Of Hogwarts it was a severe crime to cut out Fred's death and Percy's reaction. Anyone agreeing with me on those?

Very much agree with your points. I wanted Tonks and Lupin to go out like badasses. Maybe she takes a hit for him, and he loses it in a rage and gives in to his Wolf self. Goes berserk takes out a bunch of Death Eaters before getting taken out himself.

Now Tonks was obviously no match for her aunt but I bet she gave a good fight like her husband same case. Even the book is cheap on details and that's too bad. So there is a room for creation. I also want to hear Minerva McGonagall say the line I like the most she ever said- "CHAARGE!"

@@TheRobe- I agree no doubt. Even in the book it felt quick for me but nothing like the movie did it. I also realize why to cut the arrival of people to the battle, that is not interesting. I do however expect HBO to nail the battle itself.

We find out about Neville’s parent a lot earlier when Dumbledore tell Harry and one of the most heartbreaking peers you left out is where Neville puts the wrapper in his pocket and evidently has kept every single one his mother has given him.

I definitely would have included the scene of Neville, and his parents at Saint Mungo‘s hospital, and Peter Pettigrew‘s death. Of the scenes you’ve discussed, I think it’s a tie between Peter Pettigrew‘s, death, and the scene of Neville, and his parents at Saint Mungo’s hospital.

I think one of the darkest and most disturbing things is that Fred and George tried to make 5 year old Ron make an unbreakable vow that would've killed him if he broke it. They straight up nearly killed their brother. And even if Ron had somehow managed to keep the vow, who knows what it might have been that he would've been cursed to live with the rest of his life. That is not a prank, that is downright cruelty and malice.

I spent a long time nursing the theory that Alice’s gift of a candy wrapper to Neville was actually some sort of charm that would become important in a later book. I was crushed when I realized that she had been tortured beyond the ability to protect her son.

Several years ago, I read a Harry Potter head cannon (I don't remember who wrote it) in which, after the Battle of Hogwarts, Neville goes to St. Mungo's to visit his parents, and tells them all about what took place. After he finishes, Alice speaks for the first time since being tortured; she looks at Neville and says, "Proud." 😭

I guess the funniest irony between the Death Eaters is the fact that the Malfoys are too cowardly to actually kill people for the benefit to whom they serve; while Peter Pettigrew was too cowardly to choose to do what is right.

Winky and the house elves joining the battle of Hogwarts really needed to be in the movies. I was so excited when it started thinking that Kreature was going to come out of the kitchens any minute with the rest of the house elves, but that turned to sheer disappointment when it never happened. Really the best part of the whole battle was just left out of the movie. Kreature joining the side of good fully was never seen on screen :(

Technically, the Weasley twins could have been guilty of torture simply because they paid unsuspecting young kids to test their horrific jokes on. The ton tongued toffee used to discomfit Dudley is proof of that sinister intent.

Indeed, however one could argue that those maladies are seen as way less severe in a world where everybody is capable of transfiguration and other witchcraft. I think i remember some rather health-impeding curses being used as normal pranks in the books, e.g. a curse that causes your toenails to grow uncontrollably.

Don't forget that time they gave Ron an acid pop that put a hole in his tongue, or that time they were trying to get him to do an Unbreakable Vow. If their parents were less caring those kids could have turned into a real menace.

The one time Harry was ever able to use Crucio effectively was when Amycus spat at McGonagall. Their relationship in the books isn't talked about as often as it should be.

How about how Hermione keeping Rita Skeeter locked up in a bottle as a beetle for a year!! Then basically black mailed Rita with the fact that she was an unregistered animagus and that if she wrote any stories that they didn't like that Hermione would turn her in.

It's a misconception that Hermione locked her in the jar for a year. She caught Rita in the infirmary after the third task and in chapter 37 of GOF Hermione shows the jar to Harry and Ron on the Hogwarts Express on their way home for the summer and says she will let Rita out of the jar when they get back to London and that Rita is to keep her quill to herself for a year, meaning not write such slanderous lies about them for a year. Rita was in the jar for about a week. Frankly, I think it's far darker that Rita could publish lies defaming a minor to their entire society and no magical adult intervened to protect Hermione. She was assaulted through the mail and ended up with painful boils on her hands from a letter laced with bubotuber pus and even an adult who knew Hermione believed Rita's lies at first. Rita destroyed Hermione's reputation in a society that was already tougher on muggleborns just because she could. She knew Hermione had no strong connections to any powerful adult. and knew she'd get away with it, likely because of Hermione's blood status. Hermione was unprotected and vulnerable in the magical world. Rita and a society that believes it's acceptable to abuse a vulnerable minor in that way are dark AF. Darker than what Hermione had to do to stop it.

@@subratanandy2142 Rita wasn't in the jar for a few months, Hermione caught Rita in the infirmary after the third task, and after Fudge denying Voldemort’s return and all that, the third task took place on June 24th, students leave Hogwarts for the summer in either late June or early July, a week or two is the most she was locked in the jar.

Kreacher's tale is a pretty dark moment left out of movies. The thing about Barty Crouch Jr in the book is it's not known for certain that he had anything to do with the Longbottom's torture. I don't think Greyback had any other intentions regarding Hermione other than to eat her flesh. It may have sounded like something more because he was taunting Ron about what he was going to do to Hermione. The more disturbing thing about Greyback was the fact that he would deliberately position himself near people during the full moon to attack them and he would attack people and eat human flesh even when not transformed into a werewolf.

It may not be known for certain if he had anything to do with it, but from the implications, it's fairly easy to assume he had something to do with it. Whether he was learning, playing lookout, or an active participant, is the question. We know for a fact that he was indeed a Death Eater from his own confession under veritaserum. The book also tells us he was caught in the company of the Death Eaters who were known to be guilty of torturing the Longbottoms. Other than flat out saying he participated, I don't know what more you need. The more irksome part of the movie's telling is the amount of attention given to the "Junior" part of his name, and Karkaroff being the one that gave him up.

@@clfoster82 My take is this. The shear terror he exhibited while professing his innocence and pleading with his father is what makes me question his involvement. The book didn't make it seem like he was faking it for sympathy or anything like that. Yes he confessed to being a death eater at the time he was caught impersonating Mad-Eye Moody. But was he a death eater at time he originally went to Azkaban prison? I'm not sure he was. However, after years in Azkaban prison as well as years trapped within his own body from the imperius curse, Barty Jr would have been easy pickings for Voldermort to manipulate and recruit.

@@AWX_Wrestling But the cemetery scene in the book confirms it. Voldemort is going around the circle and stopping at the empty spaces that have been left for the ones that aren't there and making remarks about them - be they dead, in Azkaban, or too cowardly to show up. The ones present KNEW to leave empty spots for all those not present (there were empty spaces for the Lestranges, Karkaroff, Snape, etc), including one for Barty Crouch (Junior!). Voldemort himself says that he is his most faithful servant when commenting on that particular empty space. Yet again, aside from flat out saying it, I'm not sure what else you'd need to confirm that he was indeed a Death Eater prior to his imprisonment.

I'm talking about when he got accused of being involved in the Longbottom's torture and thrown into Azkaban prison. I'm not so sure he was a death eater THEN. Of course he was a death eater when he was impersonating Mad-Eye. Who knows WHEN for sure that he became a death eater.

There's another one that is barely mentioned both in HP and FB. It is never really explained what happened to Ariana Dumbledore...for her father to react like that the "attack" must have been something worse than a beating. If I am not remembering incorrectly JK Rowling also confirmed it.

That's always been something that left a cold dread at the implication. The fact that there is no actual answer given just makes it that much worse. I'd like to think the "Worse than beating" was simply they may have been about to kill her......but there are far worse things someone can do to a young girl......and that thought can make your blood run cold .

Dosen't it say her mind was sort of fracturted by this event and she never became her selve again? -So it must have been something truly terrible. It's also the reason why Dumbledore hated muggles when he was young.

I’m pained to say this, but whatever you all are thinking…. Is probably exactly right. If someone attacked you, your father wouldn’t attack 3 boys so badly they almost died. It is very, painfully clear that what you are thinking. Is completely right.

Hopefully the brand new HBO TV show will put these top 10 darkest moments in. For me it has to be Molly Weasley fear of her children dying. I remember reading this and I got really emotional because I felt her motherly instinct kicking in. Keep up the good work like always!

Always said that was one of Harry's darkest moments. That was an instance of Harry WANTING to hurt someone for the sake of causing them pain. Not out of a sense of justice, not to prove a point, but with causing someone pain being the goal in and of itself. Bellatrix taught Harry a dangerous lesson that day.

Yep! Harry knew in Goblet but Dumbledore forced him to not tell anyone. Only when the others saw Neville's parents at St Mungo's did Harry finally say something.

Neville does not get enough time in the film. His story and arc is many fans favorite part of the books. I sobbed and still do when I reread the hospital visit with his parents. Also that Harry understood that it might actually be harder to be in Neville's situation.

And the triumph of his leadership of the resistance at Hogwarts. As you read it you can see that if Voldemort had thought the prophesy was about Neville, then Neville would have been fully up to the task of being in Harry's shoes. Neville's story arc really shows one of Rowling's main underlying points throughout the books, that people are who they are because of circumstances

Not wrong the book ending for Bellatrix and Voldy is far more epic, Voldy in particular. Man died after essentially getting taunted about every misstep he’s had along the way, getting killed by his own rebounded spell and just dropping like a normal person in front of everyone. Was a weird choice to make it so the two of them just disintegrate in the movies, tho I will admit Molly blowing up Bellatrix was pretty cool.

The fact that voldemort killed a pregnant witch in Albania and posessed her fetus as a means to return in book 4 is probably the darkest of them all. Its not mentioned in the books or the movies but was one of Rowling's original ideas. The reason rhe details was censored in the books was because it was too dark for the publishers and made them nauseous. Perhaps its worth a mention here..

Tom Riddle’s and Dumbledore’s past respectfully. Both were completely complex and intertwined, not to mention eerily mirrors one another. It shows how manipulative Tom Riddle was and how there were many warning signs, but no one bothered to intervene or reach-out, including the fact it reveals his extensive kill count. Then Dumbledore, who is not as righteous nor honorable as he portrays himself because he too has skeletons in his closet.

I think one thing any accurate depiction is going to have a hard time with is the final fight. Because on the one hand you have wizards doing goofy things like casting spells to make the other's legs dance uncontrollably, but on the other hand, dead children everywhere.

Though Harry didn’t have a personal grudge, he wanted to use it against the people who ruined Hogwarts for those kids who instead of eating great food and having fun, were being abused.

If you think about it the love some have for others in these stories helps protect during very pivotal moments.starting with Harry's mom. Then her sister who could have sent Harry away at any time but didn't because even though she was jealous of her sister she still loved her and did this one thing in her honor even though she did it badly.then you narcissa if not for the love of her son and her thanx to Harry answering her question if draco was alive she saved him in a crucial moment. If draco had been killed she most likely would have killed Harry herself blaming him for everything.or try to kill voldy and getting slaughtered herself. Then you have molly protecting Harry since second year like he was her own. than killing belatrix to save Hermione and ginny.once again the love of a mother saving the day.then you have harry. Inbthe end inbthe last duel it was the love he had for his friends the pushed him on because he couldn't stand to have anymore die after so many died for him.his mom dad remus tonks Sirius Fred mad eye and many others killed in the fight. So if you think about it the whole book is an homage to the power of love.

I really wished Ron and Hermione to use some unforgivable curses as well . Hermione had already shown many dark tendencies and broke laws . Would have loved to see her using the killing curse on Fenrir after she stunned him , and Ron was already keen on killing people after Fred died , he could have followed suit . The moment in the seventh book when Harry uses Crucio on the Death Eater is interesting, because there's not a teacher Harry kind of hates to be on its bad side as Mcgonagall, still that's the moment you find how much he does respect her. He couldn't use Crucio agains't Bella because he was in pain and suffering for the death of another one of his family. But there, he was angry, and anger blinds us to reason. That's the trigger he used, to protect and punish the one who was humiliating the professor he respected the most after Dumbledore.

I get what you mean and she would totally deserve it, I agree with you there, I just don't think she would suffer any torturous limbo prison, she would be annoyed for a minute and then go after our favorite twins.

I suppose you could be right. There's a spell to turn a rat into a goblet that students learn in year two so why not believe Fred and George knew how to do imprison a teacher, in which case I question why they didn't do so with Filch who loves threatening torture on troublemakers like them. This is probably a controversial opinion since I've never seen any mention this. But.... Harry's entire attitude toward house elves in Books 4-5 (I'm currently re-reading the books and haven't gotten to 6 yet) is baffling. He himself was essentially a slave to the Dursleys all his life, so when Hermione starts advocating house elf rights and he does nothing to help.... It makes no sense to me. This is more so an issue I have with Rowling's writing than something I consider to be a "dark moment", but the way Rowling presented the entire house elf issue as "Hermione's wrong and you should always listen to the slave owners when they say their slaves are happy" really does not sit well with me. Hermione definitely doesn't seem to go about it the right way, and I find myself screaming at my copies of the books for her to simply ask the elves what they truly want. But Harry, specifically, having no thoughts on the matter and even siding with Ron over Hermione makes it even worse to me. I, for one, am glad they cut SPEW from the movies.

Exactly!! Harry was the first one to care about elf rights and the moment Hermione did it as well , he did a 180° . In book 6 it gets worse as a certain act by Slughorn could be life threatening to a Hogwarts elf and when Harry witnessed it , his first thought was " good thing that Hermione's not here ". He wasn't even disturbed to see it happen . Hermione was wrong in certain aspects ( trying to set them free without consent) , but urging them to ask for some sick leave, proper place to live and rest etc was really just the minimum worker right that should have been done already!!! They painted her as a silly, self-righteous girl .. wtf . Rowling really messed up . At least I'm glad that Ron came around in book 7 after the incident with Dobby .

Neville's little side story at St. Mungo's is one of my favorite character moments ever. The poor boy loves his parents so very much, and in their madness they still love him. Dumbledore was onto something abojt that "most powerful magic" thing.

Mr. Crouch didn't actually think Winky conspired with Barty Crouch Jr. to cast the dark mark. He just tasked her with tending to Barty Jr. and monitoring him while he watched the quidditch world cup. And then he blamed her when Jr. came out of his imperius-induced trance and escaped. This blame was probably all the more strengthened by the fact that Winky was the one who pleaded with Mr. Crouch and convinced him to allow Barty Jr. to attend the match under the invisibility cloak in the first place.

There is a really dark scene way back in book 1 when Hagrid performed magic on Dudley that grew a pigs tail out of his backside. It was even revealed later that Hagrid intended to fully turn Dudley into a pig and the Dursleys needed to remove the pig tail via surgery, meaning there wouldve been no way for them to get their son back if Hagrid succeeded.

The Weasley twins didn't mean to harm Montague. They had no reason to possibly think that the cabinet was anything else than, well, a normal cabinet with nothing magical, let alone dark about it, and all they had in mind was a prank that would have lasted minutes. That's totally the kind of things teenagers do. I remember volunteering at an exhibition of ancient vests, precious ritual artifacts and alleged hallows at a small local church, and my friends locked me in a cabinet full of long-dead people teeth, bones and hair locks in glass cases for some minutes. I was more annoyed than scared.

One thing that is mentioned in the books but not in the films, not as a scene but as something that had happened in the past, are the descriptions of the bad treatment that Harry had received by the Dursleys when he was a young child, for example being imprisoned in the cupboard for weeks as a punishment.

Neville's Story is the worst! Montague's too! can you imagine what he went through?! Though i struggle to blame the twins. i dont konw if they knew what would happen. it was reckless yes but well... its reminiscent of the Marauders and there escapades. So very reckless. Then there are all the Tom Riddle Stories before he became Voldemort. Even the things alluded too that he did to the other kids in the orphanage. The bits we see about Sirus and James's torment of Snape, though very one-sided, is also not great. Winkys story is sad too but i want to believe she was just dealing with her initial depression and that she picked herself back up in the subsequent months. The trouble is we don't hear about her again after goblet of fire which ends with her receiving horrific news and potentially witnessing BCJ killed too.

I really wish they would have kept the part with Peter Pettigrew's death in it. It added a lot of depth to his character. It also showed that Voldemort never trusted Peter. He made the silver hand as a defense mechanism in case Peter turned against him. Even though having a moment of mercy after all of the terrible things Peter did, didn't exactly redeem his character it did show more of who he was.

I would agree on the twins. The movies make them seem like the nicest guys who just tease others. But the books are polar opposite. They bully percy mercilessly, are the reason ron is so messed up, and targeted slytherins because their family said their evil. They have their good side, but much like jk Rowling characters, they are not perfect and definitely had a dark side. Though, if there was one I would add to this list, it would be how they downplayed what the marauders did. In the movies, they make them seem kind hearted who where unjustly killed. But in the books, they were a menace to the school and even got away with attempted murder because they were gryffindors. Even Harry was disguised when he found out the truth from Sirius, having been abused himself. I think this is a key point in the books as to why certain characters did what they did.

I think it is important that when Harry uses the Cruciatus curse it is in response to Carrow spitting in Prof. McGonagall's face. What makes him "mean it" is the insult to her.

the weasly twins have taken pranks too far before, notably twice on Ron. They once used an acid pop on him burning a hole in his tongue, and another time they're almost successful in making ron take an unbreakable vow

Its not dark, but I was wandering about Harry's feelings towrds Mcgonagall. Because at sometimes in the third movie he asks her to sign his permission form. and that moment where he casts crusio after a deatheater attacks Mcgonagall. im my opinion, in his eyes she rather than ms Weasley was like the mother he never had.

"Its not that strong..." Implies butterbeer is in fact alcohol. Always felt it was strange that 11 year olds were drinking any alcohol. I know its England but 10-11 is still young.
