how come he is never given more credit, i will never know. his name is never mentioned among the greats. how do we even compare Dave Murray to Nuno Bettercourt, George Lynch, Steve Vai, Vito Bratta, Yngwie Malmsteen, or even Jeff Waters, to mention a few elite guitar gods...
@Robert Biswas Well, my favourite Adrian solo is definitely Stranger in a Strange Land. It's perfectly written and fits incredibly well into the rhythm. It brings me to tears almost every time I hear it. My favourite Dave solo is Judas Be My Guide. Such a powerful and intense tone, with killer bends!!! But I understand why you love Alexander the Great, it's without a doubt one of the greatest masterpieces of heavy metal. I think it's more of an emotional approach I have with those songs I listed than a technical analysis. Powerslave is also a great pick!!! Thanks for watching buddy, stay safe and Up the Irons!!!
But they are indeed among the most important guitarrists of all time. Even their contemporary fellow musicians, like Kirk Hammett and John Petrucci were heavily inspired by their playing.
Dave is fanfastic and his guitar tone is the core of Maiden sound, but Adrian solos had a bigger impact on me. Some of his solos are absolutely unforgettable.
The Blonde Bomber. LOVE Dave....so underrated. Humble man always smiling and you can tell how much he loves his craft by the way he acts onstage. And I've seen them live a few times.
Fantastic! I just love this man! This passage you've put in at #1 is one of my all time favourites and shows absolutely everything about Davey, including what a humble and generous guy he his with that gesture towards Adrian at 6:52 . Sir Dave Murray, legend!
Smith grew up in London and became interested in rock music at 15. He soon formed a friendship with future Iron Maiden guitarist Dave Murray, who inspired him to take up the guitar. "He started me off playing; I bought my first guitar off him." "We were both at the same state, but Dave was a bit further down, he'd actually put the time in and learn to play the guitar. And I sort of... he started me off playing. I bought my first guitar off him, I think it was like five quid or something. It was something he had lying around."
As a Iron Maiden fan since their very beginning I’ve always thought that Dave was the best guitarist in the band. He’s never in the spotlight of the band. One of the greatest guitarists of all time i m o. Up the irons 👍
I love Dave, he is my favorite of the band. However, after playing in an Iron Maiden tribute band where I had to play all of Adrian’s parts, I would say that Adrian is def the more technical guitar player. It doesn’t necessarily make him better because Dave is a super melodic player, but from a technical standpoint, Adrians stuff is so much harder to play.
@@JessieJames0317 imo...his melodic style of play is quite recognizable...the legato parts especially...also there's something in the timing of his bends...its awesome !!!! I remember kinda liking the end of " from here to eternity " till I put my headphones on and REALLY gave the whole song a go in the lockdown...then the 2 powerslave solos blew me away totally and now I've got abt 20 + songs of theirs on my playlist....again primarily due to Murray...Holy smoke - great example of a below par /sloppy Janick solo next to an absolutely eargasmic solo from Dave !!!
@@JessieJames0317 I've always felt it was the other way around. I always felt like Dave was the more technical player and Adrian was the more soulful type guitarist. Either way, I agree he is the best in the band.
@@JessieJames0317 interesting, I'm a guitarist too and would say it's the other way around. To play a Dave M solo accurately as he would play it to me os more difficult than Adrian. Love em both though
Sorry, buddy. Too many good options to choose from. Some people would question why I picked Futureal or Judas be my Guide but I find those solos incredibly inspired. Not to mention some great solos I couldn't fit in this top 10, like The Nomad, Age of Innocence and Holy Smoke.
Love Iron Maiden. Seen them in Toronto many times over the years and I've never been disappointed. Got to meet Adrian Smith during the Book of Souls tour and was a great experience for me. Up the Irons. 🤘🤘🤘
The "Killer"-Solo is really a total killer. On every maiden-concert i was, always stood there with open mouth, not believing what i saw and hear. Absolute amazing and gorgous guitarplayer. Up the Irons!! \m/
Dave Murray rules!! Got to see him last month in Tampa . . . with a few of his friends. You know, Steve, Adrian, Nicko . . . but how can The Clairvoyant not be on this list??
I remember the 'outrage' when Somewhere in Time was released. Guitar synths? In a metal band? It was the end of the world for some fans. I was 13, just learning to play guitar, and absoulutely loved that sound...and still do. Smith and Murray provided the sountrack to my youth. In a world of million-note-a-minute 'shredders', I still think they blow the roof off.
Mi guitarrista preferido de Maiden. Gracias por rendirle homenaje!!! Powerslave dentro de sus mejores solos. Haciendo contrapunto con el bajo supremo!!!!🤘🤘🤘
Form me he will always be no1 guitarist in Iron Maiden because play so gently and emotional...his style is amazing and also character really great guy. He doesn't have finished even primary school (this doesn't tell nothing about person) but anyway he is a gentleman more normal and calm guy than today's crazy people without basic culture.
Yes! Cause there's a passage where Dave doubles his notes in thirds; to make it sound like the studio version, Janick takes advantage of the fact that Adrian is there to play the rhythm guitar and tags along with Dave. So much fun!
@@LeandroDelPrete I know, I play guitar myself. Jan playing that harmonized part really makes a dfiference live. I believe they only did that on the Edhuntour when Bruce & Adrian came back, as on the previous tour (the VXI tour) Janick obviously had to play the backing rhythm part.
Glad to meet a fellow guitar player! You're right, Futureal was dropped from the setlist after the Ed Hunter Tour, mostly because Brave New World came out, I guess. Great song though!
Fantastic guitar player and composer, a man of good taste. PS - I love Dave and Adrian. To be honest, I like almost every solo Dave and Adrian played, but "The Trooper" and "Hallowed be thy name" has a magic touch to me.
The Number of the Beast album is a heavy metal landmark, filled with some of the best harmonies, solos and vocal lines of all time. Piece of Mind is great too, but since Maiden was already a giant by the time it was released, it didn't cause that much of a mindblow. Still classic though. I love Dave's performance on these two albums, but I still think Powerslave is the one where he was at his prime.
@@LeandroDelPrete As a kid I filled the best cassette tape I had with To Tame A Land from Piece of Mind, back to back. Hardly anyone plays that anymore I think.
Debo decir que me gusta más como toca Adrian Smith, pero mi favorito y al que más quiero es Dave, él trasmite algo genial que no se explicar, es una parte muy elemental de la banda así como Steve. Grande Dave Murray!!!
On this Legacy of the Beast tour '22, I watched Dave and H and was amazed at how they keep improving.. just true Artist always getting better when they are already Awesome, but thats what talent and dedication do, they crete Greatness. Up the Irons!!!!!
Dave murrays rime of the ancient marriner, live after death (record/CD version) should of been number 1. It was flawless! Dave is the BEST guitarist of maiden hands down!
I love that we got Adrian's solo in Powerslave because it happened to be between two of Dave's. Honourable mentions for Dave should go to the solo over the slow part of Phantom Of The Opera and his solo in 22 Acacia Avenue. I think it's his solo anyway.
Dave had been historically overshadowed by Adrian for both wrong and good reasons. Dave the amazing lead player, sided by Adrian the amazing writer who could kill on solos too. Adrian provides way more, but Dave is awesome at his thing.(for the record: my favorite songs on AMOLAD and TFF are Dave's!)
I feel bad for kids today who wouldn't be able to experience the anticipation of a new maiden album coming out back in the 70s and 80s. It was an event to hear what Davey and Adrian came up with. Definitely need more love than they get.
I imagine how it was when Powerslave came out. Can you picture yourself putting the vinyl on a player and hearing Aces High for the first time ever? If something like that happened today I'd probably go crazy as shit.
@@LeandroDelPrete . Dude, i still remember my older sister coming home with Number of the Beast (when it finally showed up at the record store ) and hearing for the first time Hallowed Be Thy Name. I was hooked as a Maiden fan for life from that day on. All their 80s records just ruled. Good memories.
Oh yeah that main riff and the running looow part are just so powerful you can't resist screaming along with Bruce! It was indeed the best of times, buddy. The 80s were the age of rock!
@@LeandroDelPrete . Absolutely dude. I'm glad I was born in the 70s and was hitting my stride in the 80s . It really was a great period in music for people of all tastes. Except Rap lol.
Rap is just irrelevant compared to all the good music we had at that time. Not only Maiden, but also Metallica, Slayer, Rush, Pink Floyd, Exodus, Motorhead and so many other great bands.
Dave Murray é um top guitarrista, aliás eu gosto muito dos três guitarristas do Iron Maiden. Essa performance de Powerslave ficou sensacional. Agora, esse show do Iron do Rock in Rio 2001 eu considero um dos melhores da história.
Smith is a genius, he creates the best melodies and great songs as each member of Maiden, but man, i prefer Dave Murray solos hands down ! of course it s a team work and this is what makes Maiden solos great first of all ;)
Dave solos and he's my favorite! Adrian solos and he's my favorite! Janick solos and he's my favorite! I don't know where this is going! What a bunch of axes they are!
I’m going to have to go with Remember Tomorrow, but I’m talking about the Maiden Japan version. I’ve never heard DM more vicious than on this particular solo. I have to add on that little bluesy solo but after Adrian’s solo. Since it’s coming up on my anniversary that I first saw Maiden live. I have to mention Dave’s guitar solo on his own that night. He broke into The Star Spangled Banner, I thought we were going to shit our pants! Not an exact copy of Jimi’s, but enough to make us giddy! Check out the Chicago ‘83 bootleg to reference it 🤘🤘🤘
