Top 10 David Gilmour's guitar solos 

You can't confine this guy to a top 10. Everything he touches is golden!

David Gilmour; the absolute best guitarist this world has ever seen. He can get more voices out of his guitars then anyone, and incorporate it into melody!

People mention stairway and the stairway solo is great. But, it doesn't even come close to any of Gilmour's solos. All of Gilmour solos move me. But, that solo on HIGH HOPES, so beautiful. The backing music to HIGH HOPES......oh my. They are all soooo GREAT. LONG LIVE Sir Gilmour.

Syd Barrett was a brilliant guy who helped launch and inspire one of the best rock bands ever. But, let's face it, the best thing he did for PF was melting down and motivating them to add David Gilmour to the lineup.

ANOTHER top 10 list of Gilmours solos without the recognition of the BRILLIANT solo from Fat Old Sun! Time and time again, it is the same songs listed. The same COMMERCIAL popular songs that are easy to acknowledge. Gilmours brilliance is shown in almost every song he works on. Yet, I NEVER see any other person mention Fat Old Sun. Criminally under rated!!!

Nothing touches my sensibility more than comfortably numb's solo by Gilmour ...that song is haunting , it reaches my soul ...its just timeless & mesmerizing !

Best solo is subjective. Dave Gilmour has conjured up so many that no matter who you are or which solo you pick for your top ten, you are right. We are all right. The man is a magician, bending strings, elongating notes. If you are moved by the sound of a guitar, Dave has produced something at sometime that wiil get you.

I think Comfortably numb solo, Pulse version, is the best solo of rock and roll history...even better than stairway to heaven...

Another great one is the slide solo in Shine on You Crazy Diamond.

What about 'Dogs"?...man that's my favorite...

they were all great !!! my favorite group along with many more.

The thing is, David Gilmour has done SO MANY great solos that it can be difficult or not even possible to nail down one that is the best. Plus, you have all the various live versions too, many of which are truly mind blowing. Anyway, I think the video here leaves out a few of the greats; Echoes live in Pompeii, BBC live version of Fat old sun (30 minute jam session), and Dogs!

Coming Back to Life is one of my favorite solos.

All Gilmour solos are great. He's a very special player. I can't think of any players (dead or alive) who can create such beautiful melodies. And, isn't that what it's all about, beautiful music. The solo to High Hopes gives me chills.

There's somthing everyone seems forget.. he also had an amazing haunting voice.. aside from that.. any colour you like is a great track.. not so much a solo but incredible drum timing and guitar sound

Just a note on Another brick in the wall-that particular live solo was shared between Gilmour and Tim Renwick. It was recorded at Earls Court during the Pulse tour

Also there are so many solos that is nearly impossible to select 10 of them, we are talking of possibly the most prolific guitarist of all times......

I've noticed Gilmour started smiling more as he got older. Nice to see. Maybe he spent more time listening to his own recordings -- that's always worked for me.

I was totally not expecting Comfortably Numb at the 1st XD (that solo is so amazing dude) Edit: I typed this before it coming, but I knew it was first XD

Nice selection, I'd add slide work on Atom Heart Mother, solo in Fat Old Sun [ground zero for all of David's subsequent solos], and all of Echoes as a David Gilmour tour-de-force.

When I think about how DG sees the world, that hallway scene from the Matrix where everything he sees is made up of the Matrix code comes to mind. I think thats how DG sees everything, except the code is made up of music notes. This man literally IS music.

What I would say this music will never go out of fashion. Some of the could be released for Christmas. Regarding music floyd were in a elite thee only ones in this world.🎸🎸🎼🎼

You know, even though it’s very quick. Young lust solo has to be in my top 3, it’s very gritty and I love that. That song is very explosive.

Sorry for my english, I'm French. I hope you know, it's Roger Watres who wrote pigs and another bricks in the wall. Moreover it's sad that's there no solo of gilmour before 1973 (you didn't put echoes) But it's still a god top 10.

I'd remove "A Great Day for Freedom" along with "Poles Apart" and add "Comfortably Numb" solo #1 along with "Echoes".
