Omar earned ALL of my trust with this video. Started collecting omnibus's... omni's? after this video came out last year. I've bought 4 books from this list (aquaman, the flash and green lantern by geoff John's, batman by snyder/capullo) loved everyone of them, thankfully my batman had the improved binding. Now even after buying 16 books this year I still look for your reviews before I buy anything. But now whenever my wife hears "this is uncanny Omar from near mint condition" she has to ask what am I buying now
Near Mint Condition It’s an absolute pleasure Omar and it’s a fact . The enthusiasm and energy you bring to RU-vid, to comics in general is both special and infectious in a big way Your videos keeps us all informed and entertained . Uncanny indeed !
Hey Mr. Near mint(omar)I just wanted to say thank you. I just bought the aquaman omnibus and started to read the first few chapters, all I can say this is a very nice book sir and I am having a good time reading it. God bless you sir and happy new year. You are awesome sir!
If we could also choose out of print DC omni(s), I think these would be my top 10: 1. Superman/Batman (Loeb et al) 2. War of the Gods (WW) 3. Death & Return of Superman 4. Knightfall 5. JSA v1 6. GL v1 (Johns) 7. Animal Man (Morrison) 8. Doom Patrol (Morrison) 9. Aquaman 10. Batman (Snyder/Capullo) 11. Honorable Mention: Infinite Crisi So my list is very similar to yours but not into He-Man and the Garth Ennis Hellblazer didn't do it for me.
Fantastic list! Totally feel the Johns books, his GL is what got me really into comics. JSA was like Aquaman, it turned something I didn’t take seriously into one of my favorite titles. Thanks Omar! Love your videos
It's cool that your first DC comic was Crisis on Infinite Earths. I know what it's like to have an odd jumping-on point, because for me, it was a late 90s trade of Marvel vs DC. That was literally my introduction to both companies and their characters. Before that, I didn't even know there were two big comic companies, just that the X-Men and Batman cartoons had different art styles. I certainly know a lot more now. :)
It’s worth reading identity crisis, infinite crisis then 52 if anyone reading this is new like me, I just jumped right in never having read anything dc before and I was perfectly fine despite all the characters that show up
@@larryphoenix2339 Definite re-read value there. Glad to hear his Teen Titans run is getting an omni reprint. Maybe one day DC will do his Superman in OHC as well.
@@purplerain225 That would be great if they printed his superman in omnis and maybe alongside kurt busieks run all mapped out correctly. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did as all his runs seem to be getting the omnibus treatment.
Great choices. I have Johns Aquaman omnibus and it is amazing. I will definitely pick up flash. I’ve become a fan thanks to Waid’s run. I also have the He man Omnibus. Thank you for this.
Once i copped my first omnibus i was hooked, now they are a major part of my collection. I even find myself holding off on collecting some tpb's in favor of waiting for the omnibus version to come out.
Wow Omar! What a decisive and bold selection He-Man omnibus - I never delved into the Saturday morning cartoons because I was always playing Dungeons and Dragons .
He's talking about available omnis and the Green Arrow one isnt available yet. It's supposed to come out in the first part of September and I hope it's not pushed back since Grell is my one of my favorite artists and GA is one of my favorite characters next to Booster Gold and Green Lantern.
ShastaHawk I know that, but I considering anything that you can preorder in print. Btw some ppl already have their Green Arrow Omni’s and the cover looks dam sexy. It came out in some places this week. I’m not worried about the release on Sep 2 getting pushed back.
Finally, I can refer back to this video. Just collected my first 4 DC Omnis. Geoff Johns Green Lantern vol 1, Snyder and Capullo Batman Vol 1, and Injustice 1 and 2 Omnis
@@semkwast2172 injustice 1 was the best of the 4. But ALL 4 books were soo good. I got them from Amazon Geoff Johns was I think around 80? The other 3 were around 80-90
As a new omnibus collector, I have often wondered why DC has never released an omnibus of Superboy and Krypto and all of their Early adventures. Any thoughts?
@@NearMintCondition Thank you for your reply! It's nice to know I'm not alone and confused concerning the release of Superboy and his dog Krypto in an omnibus. One closing thought. With the popularity of Planet of the Apes in recent years I am also very surprised that marvel comics has not released their comic book 70s adaption of Planet of the Apes based on the first two movies. Personally, I would love to see that in a mini omnibus.
He man was such a ride to read. It's one of my favorite omnibus. The only problem for new readers? A 1500 hundred page omnibus would be rather daunting for a new reader.
In my opinion, if the new reader is completely new to DC and isnt even that much into Superman, Batman or Wonderwoman, I would recommend them to read the 52 omnibus. It tackles personal stories from so many different perspectives. It will keep anyone interested with great character development.
Omar, thanks for making this video! I hope that you will continue to make videos like this every once in a while depending on what's on print at that time. I have the Masters of the Universe omni and I'm glad you suggested that. I am also thinking about reading the Aquaman by Geoff Johns omnibus due to your suggestion on this video.
This list brought to you by Geoff Johns. Thanks for the list, Omar. As always, I appreciate your perspective. I would add New Teen Titans Omnibus (Wolfman and Perez) and Justice League of America by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky (a silver age run) and Adam Strange Silver age by Gardner Fox and Carmine Infantino who has never looked so good as when he is being inked by Murphy Anderson. Gardner Fox is the Silver age Geoff Johns :). And if I was to remove and burn one omnibus on your list it would be the Superman/Batman by Loeb. The dueling dialogue boxes of Superman and Batman drove me crazy - and not in a good way.
@@NearMintCondition OOP? That's funny, I checked amazon.ca before I suggested it and it is still in print there. A rare time we still have an omnibus after the US :).
Great list and happy to own them all. More importantly great suggestion on the injustice vs masters of the universe HC. Didn't know about it and noticed it isn't collected in the injustice 1 Omni or the coming second Omni either. Ordered right away. Thanks Omar!
That He-Man omnibus is the BOSS! It is really good. Mind you, I am a huge Masters of the Universe fan. So I’m pre conditioned to enjoy good He-Man tales. But that also makes me extra critical of these stories too. If they weren’t any good, as a He-Man fan I would be excited about these stories. So yeah, if you like He-man, this is a great book for you. If you’re not familiar with He-Man, it is a great entry point, as Omar says. But it is very expensive. So make sure you want it before you buy it. I’ve read a lot of these stories many times. Big recommendation from here.
Literally ordered and just received the MOTU Omni last week. Its so much FUN!!!!!!!!!!! There's even a He-Man/Thundercats crossover contained in it the artwork is so colorful and fun. Love all your suggestions Omar! Serious question Omar if you read this, I am a diehard completionist. Is JSA Omni Vol1 a self contained story or does it roll right along into vol 2? If there isn't a satisfying enough story arc end to the first volume I don't think my heart can take possibly never getting volume 2 or at least having that "hole" between 1 and 3. It's to bad because I deeply love older age and modern age comics equally and these sound so up my alley and I know I will love it and be soul crushed never owning the middle one.
Hi, Omar ! The correct way to speak Ivan Reis’s nome is E-van Rraiz ! You’re almost there, congrats on that and for The show ! Hugs from Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Which is the best recent Batman run: Scott Snyder, Tom King, Peter Tomasi’s Batman and Robin, James Tynion’s Detective Comics, or my favourite Grant Morrison’s Batman run? I never hear this conversation include all the best series, and they’re all really good. Let’s hear some thoughts.
Still following this list after 7months. So far i got the flash geoff johns vol 1. Slow in the first 2 chapters (im starting reading it) but the plot is quite a mystery and i love it.
Great list brother! Definitely bumped up my purchasing desire for Morrison's doom patrol. The only other one I would have considered adding is Wonder Woman by Perez! Flawless introduction to a modern wonder woman that ties in cool Greek mythology and modern super heroics. Love what you are doin, Keep it up!
Batman Scott Snyder Omni is still in print with a 22 dollar coupon on Amazon making it a whopping 44 dollars! I had just ordered it before watching this video and glad its on the list. I have it already in TPB's already but glad to get it in omni form for such a great price.
Some Honorable Mentions: Justice League Darkseid War Saga Omnibus Batman by Neal Adams Omnibus Lucifer Omnibus Deathstroke the New 52 Omnibus Batman and Robin by Peter J Tomasi and Patrick Gleason Omnibus Blackest Night 10th Anniversary Omnibus Wonder Woman Omnibus by Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang Absolute Batman The Court of Owls
As a Marvel guy,i got a lot out of this vid!great choices(great choices on the Marvel one too) Already got Aquaman and Batman by Snyder some time ago based on some of yr earlier vids )))) Enjoyed them soooo much Is Gotham Central not there bc its oop?? ))
Great vid brother all the picks are spot on. Just got that He-man if they ever deside to make another animated show they need to model it after the comics for sure. The 2000's remake was great.
Green Lantern Omnibus Volume 1 was my first Omnibus ever. And I’m glad I spent my moneys worth. Johns’ run is phenomenal and he explains everything so clearly and easily to someone like me who knows Green Lantern but has never read a Green Lantern comic in his life. It’s perfect It’s awesome that almost every book on this list are written and drawn by some of my favourite writers and artists such as Geoff Johns, Garth Ennis, Grant Morrison, Scott Snyder, Ivan Reis, Ethan Van Sciver, Jim Lee, Greg Capullo, Scott Kollins, Ed Mcguiness and more I’ll definitely be getting almost most of these Omni’s. I have the 5 Flash books but I can’t deny the hard cover is better quality
@@NearMintCondition Thank you. Sorry I lied that I had never read Green Lantern Comic before because as a kid my first comic book I ever picked up was Green Lantern #26 and it happened to be written by Robert Venditti at the time but I thought it was by Geoff Johns, clearly not 😂
Great list. I’ve been wanting to get jsa volume 1 but have been trepidatious because volume 2 is out of print. Maybe I’ll just get volume 1& 3 an hope for a volume 2 reprint and just get the trades to fill the gap in the mean time. Everyone talks so highly of the run I’m chopping at the bits to read it.
I’m not a big omni fan because my hands literally can’t hold them, but I’ve added so many to my library/hoopla list when the libraries open again. Snyder/Capullo’s Court of Owls in TPB were some of my first DC comics, so if the rest of their run is that good, I can’t even wait.
My brother has problem reading them as well since he has damaged hands. What I do is scan them with a czur book scanner unto my computer and he's able to read them off his my tv.
ShastaHawk Thats super smart. I got the DC app promo a while back for like a buck a month trial and I just used all my free time to mindlessly take screenshots on my phone to make PDFs. I probably got about a hundred and fifty and I just based the order off the omnibus contents I could find. So that’s always a strategy. The TV thing is so smart though I have to use a tablet on digital comics otherwise my eyes die
In regards to ivan reis, he is from brazil, so with words that begin with the letter "r" you pronounce it as a "h", as in "heis". If i translate his name correctly it appears his surname means "kings"
Spoilers! Nice list Omar! 10. Aquaman omni by Johns 9. Superman Batman omnibus by Leob 8. Flash Omnibus Vol 1 by Johns 7. Hellblazer omnibus 6. Harley Quinn omnibus vol 1 by Conner 5. Green Lantern omnibus vol 1 by Johns 4. He-Man omnibus 3. Batman omnibus vol 1 by Snyder 2. Doom Patrol omnibus by Morrison 1. JSA omnibus vol 1
