Mr. Marcos Garcia Seriously!! I swear Mojo is always fucking over the girls. There was no Britney, Xtina, or Mariah. At least they got Beyonce, but those three should 100% be on this list also.
Great song. But one of the rules of these lists is that each group gets ONE song, period, on all the lists combined. Green Day was already represented on the 1990s list.
Hating Eminem, and saying that 'only white kids like him' is being ignorant. Lose Yourself is one of the greatest song of all time. The music, every word rhyming, theme, rock breaking flawless flow, production, instrumental, energetic hook. It is the decade defining song. You can dislike him and his song, you can't deny his talent.
Nas - I'm the black Eminem to master words" Rakim - "If Em was black he'd be the next mohammed ali" Kool G Rap - "Eminem is one of my favorite MCs of all time, phenomenal" Rap was never ever meant to be races. It was pioneered by a black society. It's aim was to fight corruption and revolutionized as expressing thoughts. You need to get your dick straight. Lol. Who cares about your opinion? Tho? Your dick, i presume. Pls. LMAO. Wigger anthem? :3 Are you always stupid or is today something special?
HAHA. Claiming superiority of genres depends on personal opinions. :| Pls. if you think only 'white' boys like Eminem and Eminem raps about shit. You really never dug into his lyricism.
"Lose Yourself is one of the greatest song of all time" Shut up pls , maybe one of the best rap song but you are truly ignorant if you think it's one of the greatest song of all time ...
Eminem is to rap what Bob Marley was to Reggae music. it allowed others who were not exposed to the sound get into it, Thats a good thing hey? Please don't bombard me with Bob was better, don't compare Bob etc because i love Bob Marley. I'm just saying i couldn't get in to Rap before this song, my fault i know, but this guy is the real deal, he ain't no Vanilla Ice, he happens to be a white boy keeping it real.
It's really really hard to believe that they'll be making another one of these titled, "Top 10 decade defining songs: 2010's" in only 4 years.... holy crap.
Well most of the *2010*'s is pretty good, but if you go to the bad side of music. You may never come back. And some *2000* songs are good, just that it started to became, well you know.
Same Edit: after two months of posting this comment I realized that everyone was replying "same" for being Mexican and listening to rock, when I actually am colored (but could pass off as Mexican due to my appearance)
she was never queen of pop, she was the princess because she was discovered by Madonna. Sorry, but she didn't really make nearly as big an impact as some other stars.
compared to beyonce, lady gaga, rihanna, mariah carey, justin beiber, and so on? I don't hate her but i think Gaga or Bey had a way more powerful impact on pop culture.
My Personal Top 10 List Honourable Mentions: - Tik Tok - Ke$ha - Yeah! - Usher ft. Lil Jon & Ludacris - Low - Flo Rida ft. T-Pain - Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis - Hey Ya! - Outcast - Sandstorm - Darude (no joke) 10: Just Dance - Lady Gaga ft. Colby O'Brian 9: Umbrella - Rihanna 8: We Belong Together - Mariah Carey 7: Naughty Girl/Crazy In Love - Beyoncé6: How You Remind Me - Nickleback 5: Don't Lie/Where Is The Love - The Black Eyed Peas 4: Hips Don't Lie - Shakira ft. Wyclef Jean 3: Boulevard Of Broken Dreams - Green Day 2: Bring Me To Life - Evanescence 1: Toxic/Oops!... I Did It Again - Britney Spears (I was honestly shocked that Britney Spears wasn't even mentioned somewhere in the list, or even in the honourable mentions list, since she practically slayed the early 2000's and is the first person that anyone I ask thinks of when I ask them of defining musicians form the 2000's. She literally represents what mainstream music was at the time, so I am a little shocked. I do agree with a few of them in the video, but quite a few I had never even heard of.)
I Write Sins Not Tragedies (Panic! At The Disco)? Welcome To The Black Parade (My Chemical Romance)? Boulevard of Broken Dreams or American Idiot(Green Day)?It Wasn't Me (Shaggy)? This Ain't a Scene or Thnks Fr Th Mmrs (Fall Out Boy)? My Immortal or Bring Me To Life (Evanescence)? Yeah (Usher ft Lil Jon and Ludacris)?
prettysprinkleeee What music do you listen to may I ask? Last time I checked, those were among the best songs of the 2000s that got mainstream attention.
Can't help but feel you missed the point with Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. In many countries it was the first big downloadable song, it's iconic for prompting a start of the whole iTunes/Spotify phase of music.
Umm no, Hey Ya was only the first big downloaded song in the US. Everywhere else it was Crazy by Gnarls Barkley, where it was the first song to top charts based on downloads alone.
No Mr Brightside? lol. Can't fail the list apart from Linkin Park. Mr Brightside is THE iconic song, there's no 18-30 year old that doesn't know the words.
I got a feeling 3rd most successful track from the BEP look it up I got 15 songs from the bep that i really like but this song's No.1 for me...maybe coz The End was the first bep album i heard as a kid...its all about preferance man...kudos
Hi Rebecca! Great list! These are the minor changes I’d make 10. Survivor Destiny’s Child 7. Complicated Avril Lavigne 6. All Star Smash Mouth 4. Miss Independent Kelly Clarkson 2. Wake Me Up When September Ends Green Day 1. Oops I Did It Again Britney Spears
My opinion: 10. Stan (2001) 9. Try again (2001) 8. Small things (2000) 7. Loose Yourself (2002) 6. Pon De Play (2005) 5. You are beautiful (2003) 4. American Idiot (2004) 3. Welcome to the black parade (2006) 2. Apologise (2007) 1 Boulevard of broken dreams (2004)
Husak Ribbeck Actually, those songs were inescapable for even those who aren't fans. They're mostly still known today and those that are deserved to be on the list. Stan is a one of the highest acclaimed rap songs ever, American Idiot had a huge impact when it came out. Welcome To The Black Parade was huge when it came out, it was everywhere over here at least and to this day many people will recognise the piano at the start. Those are pretty big songs that had a huge impact on audiences at the time.
***** im not a fanboy but i know that you are a guy who listens to dupstep or thrash metal (worst enemies) although i like both bands , my favourite being lp im still not a fanboy cause i started listening to lp about 4 months ago
hmmmmm no Mariah Carey "we belong together" Kelly Clarkson "since u been gone" Green Day "boulevard of broken dreams" Britney Spears "toxic" NSYNC "bye bye bye" Backstreet Boys "I want it that way" Alicia Keys "fallin" man i could go on and on but I'm surprised that we belong together wasn't mention at all

Britney, Mariah, and Green Day were all on the 90s list and therefore ineligible for this one.

One song per artist across ALL the lists. Mariah, Britney, and Green Day all had a song on the 1990s list and therefore couldn't have one here. Their rules, not mine.
Yea on her first two albums. But she relied on gimmicks and shock value too much and pretty much what made her career also ruined it. And her lyric were catchy at best.
You put In Da Club but not Bring Me To Life or My Immortal by Evanescence who beat out 50 Cent for the Grammy for Best New Artist the same year? (who also won best Best Hard Rock Performance)? One of the only bands with a female singer to make #1 on the Billboard Top 40?? A band that became one of the biggest in the world who opened many doors for female fronted bands to come?? And you put in shit like Clocks?? How dare y'all.
Please don't say it opened doores for female fronted bands... there were plenty of female fronted bands when Evanescence became famous. Actually, if anything, they've made people who actually listen to rock and metal to look down on female fronted bands. I don't hate Evanescence, I even agree that Bring me to Life and My Immortal were pretty big songs that deserve to be on the list just as much any song there, but let's not go overboard with the credit we give them
Huh... I guess I just never paid that much attention to "pop" music in the early 2000's... 9... never heard it. 8... never heard it. ...and "If you hate it you probably still secretly love it" ??? Really, WatchMojo? *sigh* 6... never heard it 5... never heard it 4... never heard it 3... wish I'd never heard it. 2... never heard it. 1... only heard it because people wouldn't stop playing it at work... Well, doesn't seem like I missed much, really...
Josh Jones ...uhm, because I generally listen to music made with instruments, not computers? I guess there's a chance I saw a movie that had the song in it, but didn't pay enough attention to the background noise to recognize it later... Why? Where should I have heard it? In a "club"? Don't go to "clubs", I find it to be a waste of money. I had been out of high school for a few years by the time it came out, so it can't be at a dance or Prom... where should I have heard that again?
Keep in mind it's "decade defining" not "best" songs. I hate coldplay, and that's part of how I personally would define the 2000's, so I think it is good that it's mentioned
barcafredde I agree man. Its too bad. Also, I think they are very appliciable to this list considering how popular they were and still are. So JorikPar is just being an opinionated fuck.
First of all, "All the Small Things" was absolutely 1999. Don't mess with my senior year of high school/freshman year of college! Ha. This song was all over MTV at the end of that summer. Secondly, this is a tough decade to sum up: but I'm definitely shocked to not see Usher - Yeah on here. That song... Yeesh! Everywhere! And finally, without defining movements like 90's with grunge or gangsta rap, 80's with hair bands, 70's with disco, etc... You HAVE to at least mention one song from a genre that did blow up in the mid 2000's: emo rock. It was huge and definitive, and something by My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, or whatever should have been here somewhere.
Where's Britney Spears? She's the most epic and legendary artist from de 2000 decade, you clearly hate her. She must be in this top with Toxic or Womanizer.
I love the fact that Lady Gaga's song is the most recent song in the list. Let's be honest, she took the european dance beats to the mainstream us pop and that was her key of success, she became the most popular and powerful pop singer in the last 2 years of the decade. I hope her new album could be as good as her beggining, blasting the clubs off. Nice job! I still have all of this songs in my music library and some of them are my favorite songs ever.
I'm pretty sure Viva La Vida should have been on this list. That song was everywhere for an entire year. Plus I don't think these songs define the decade as much as they were just really popular during the decade (those are two different things)
Really? I lived in a predominantly black neighborhood (where most people listen to Marvin Gaye- Jay Z type music made by black artists) and I loved Daftpunk as a child. That's actually my favorite Daftpunk song.
Forreal?! I heard One More Time constantly back then, as well as Robot Rock and Technologic... I love Daft Punk, I was so happy when they were mentioned here
If we are going by that I had never heard of Outkast until about 2 months ago, and I have never heard of Gnarls Barkley until this video. I had however heard of Daft Punk and heard their songs often enough in the 2000s.
I agree music has changed a lot.. But think kids born today will say the same about modern pop "music has changed" once we get into another generation of music. And people who grew up with Older bands/ songs from 1930's an 1950's probably say the same about any music after that generation of teens grew up. It's all a cycle of opinions lol
@meme lad Personally, I would have liked Human to have been on this list. However, The Killers should have made it with some song of theirs, as they are a pretty good band.
Hardly 'more iconic' than Beyonce, didn't sell as much as Crazy in Love. You could say it surged the popularity of 'pop rock', but that is about it. And that song in no way 'changed pop music'
+Jordan Williams well you're simply wrong. it is listed as one of the greatest songs of all time (and the album is #18 of best albums of all time). it defined pop music (till it went to shit with others who i shall not name). saying that she's basically a lesser to Beyonce is laughable. don't come at me with that shit.
my top 10 from 2000s 1. Holiday - Green day 2. Blue Orchid - white stripes 3. Forever - Drake, 4. Lose your self - Eminem 5. Gone - Kanye West 6. Snow - Red hit chili peppers 7. X gon give it to ya - DMX 8. Lucifer - Jay Z 9. Whats the difference - Dr Dre 10. In da club - 50 cent Honorable mentions Say it aint so - weezer Get by - Talib Kweli A mili - Lil wayne Banana pancakes - Jack johnson Im yours - Jason Mraz Lisztomania - Phoenix
Shakira - Hips don't lie has the record for the top song on the 2000'-2010 for the most played song in radio history around the world ever. Should of made it to the list, whenever wherever is 3rd
And of course no Britney Spears... Are you trying to tell me that the artist who changed the pop game the most since Madonna and Michael Jackson doesn't deserve to be on this list?? Your hate towards her is becoming really damn annoying.
crojalwol Right? The only reason why MJ isn't here is because U.S. tried hard to discredited his last album but all around the world his album was one of the greatest.
Name a song dude instead of whining. Which of her songs defined the decade........ . All Britney Spears has proven is that you can have a successful career by using nudity and autotune.
One of my favorite moments from Futurama is when Fry, who gets cryogenically frozen in the year 2000 and gets unfrozen in the year 3000, listens to "I Like Big Butts - Sir Mix-a-lot" and Leela says, "Why are you listening to classical music?"
My personal list: 10. Boards of Canada - Julie and Candy 9. System of a Down - Lonely Day 8. Android Lust - The Body 7. Muse - Hysteria 6. Porcupine Tree - Blackest Eyes 5. Queens of the Stone Age - Mosquito Song 4. Nine Inch Nails - All the Love in the World 3. Black Light Burns - Cruel Melody 2. Radiohead - Everything in it's Right Place 1. Tool - Lateralus There'll be an absolute ton I would have forgot and some I couldn't fit on the list, but these are probably the most memorable ones for me.
Oh my god, one of those, I don't like pop/hip hop music so I'm going to make a list of music for my weird genre of music composed of songs that no one has heard of. Songs have to be mainstream for it to be decade defining. It may not be a good song but if no one has heard of the song than it obviously can't be decade defining.
Yo...Teenage Dirtbag, Rollin'? No honourable mention? Teenage Dirtbag at least. It basically defined a generation and still has people feeling a way about it whenever anyone plays it. EVERYONE knows that song. I'd even put it where Blink was
@HeyItsDBust3r In my opinion, all of her songs weren't good. If you like her that's fine; I'm just voicing my opinion. I'm more into The Misfits, Dead Kennedeys, The Clash, Black Flag, etc.
I agree, when I didn't see it on the honourable mentions I thought they would be no. 1 but sadly not, slightly confusing with the response demon days had along with the fall
Garbage? Linkin Park, Chili peppers, Gnarls Barkley, Daft Punk, The white stripes (from honorable mentions) and Eminem are hardly garbage... Those are all amazing artists and bands. I mean sure Pop music like Gaga and Timberlake and Beyonce arent really great but they aren't that bad... I wouldnt ever have put Outkast or Blink 182 on this list thats for sure. I'd say these 2 are the only garbage here. You could take any 2 from honorable mentions to replace those 2.
mrdrewj100 that's because the rock n roll hall of fame only allow bands to enter when x amount of years has passed since their first album was released, blink hasn't been around long enough to be nominated but surely when their time comes they will be inducted too, they both are amazing bands
No. The Better Life was released on December 1, 1999. Since Kryptonite was the first single off that album, it came out either on the day the album was released, or more likely, before. So, 90's.
It's far from Decade defining. It was riding on the grunge skirts of the 90s, and held decent fame into the early 2000s but even by then was considered a dated sound. So like I said, it was hardly decade defining.
FXscrubFX the majority of them are bad. Red Hot chili's being last on this list is actually appalling. some of these songs are pretty long forgotten in terms of modern day listening. Cry me a river is only listened to by divorced mothers. Lady gaga? I mean come on she will never be classed as a monarchy of songs sung. Linkin Park, never really admired them. Crazy was a decent song at the time, but nobody even knew it was Ceelo Green, just shows how much he was admired (not). Never been a fan of Beyonce or Jay Z I find the majority of their songs forceful and mediocre. Daft Punk, not a fan but this song is worthy of having the title of a song defining the decade. Blink 182 although I consider to be a bad song and kind of a 'piss' take I would consider it to be a huge song of the 2000s even if it's not to my taste. HEY YA was huge at the time of release and i'm constantly hearing it hearing people sing along to it. and Eminem could have made this lost with more than a few of his songs. But none of the songs in this list would make it onto the earlier decades lists
2003 was actually the best year of pop music in 2000s. We got Crazy In Love, In Da Club, Toxic, Hey Ya! , Bring Me To Life, Ignition Remix, Baby Boy, Cry Me A River, My Immortal, and many many more. There's really lots of good music back then including 2002. But 2003, by far, was the best. Do some research.
I am really happy that one more time is on this list. Daft punk is awesome i grew up with their music. But i do gotta say though im surprised that you and me by lifehouse isnt on this list. That song is a amazing song and i know it has definitely influenced alot of people., Lifehouse is a great band as well.
