great choices. I gotta say my order is similar though slightly different. (for the island) 1 - Argent. No real need for explanations there, its just great. 2 - Thyla. Fast, strong, agile mount with a bleed attack, good jump, and (buggy) climb. Great for caves and just a cool tame, good for caves. 3 - Baryonix. King of the early caves, great early amphibious mount with a stun and a decent statline. Great health regen. 4 - Basilo. Immune to stuns, fast, great health regen and basically necessary in packs to complete the water caves. Also very fun to just swim around on, + Passive oil generation. 5 - Theri. My favourite of the ‘boss fighting’ tames as they are small and relatively maneuverable despite their powerful stats. also great wood and fiber gatherers. 6 - Megatherium. Insane health stats with massive bug killing buff that puts them on strength levels above rexes. Best tame for the swamp cave and broodmother fight. Plus almost nothing attacks them, so very useful for safe traveling. 7 - Yuti. Cool giant chicken. Basically a bossfight necessity, great for the larger ice cave for fearing purlovias out and a good statline. 8 - Otter. Imo, the best shoulder pet. Insulation for both hot and cold temperatures, the ability to collect pearls on their own, the ability to hold more than 1 of the same artifact, extremely cute, just the best shoulder pet all round imo. (for the island) 9 - Rex. Had to be on here - Its your standard boss killer if strong theris and megatheriums arent your style. Powerful statline, known worldwide. cmon - its a friggin t-rex. 10 - BIG FROG. Beezlebufo are genuinely one of my favourite tames, I’d put them higher if i didnt find the other creatures simply more necessary. VERY fun to ride, goofy, plus they give insane amounts of cementing paste for bug kills, for when beaver dams just dont spawn and you cant be jazzed making the cementing paste yourself. I do agree with everything in this vid too tho
Me and my girlfriend play this game together, and we had 2 argentavis. one was named Blackhawk the other one was named Phoenix and they were our go-to for traveling long distances, and scouting areas. they died on us in the snow biome and they were the only two dinos that we actually built headstones for in this playthrough. They are so useful that you actually get attached to them in the game, it hurt me a little bit when they die I completely forgot about all my gear that I had on me. I can understand why they made number one on the list.
I still love my moschops and wolves... both actually make very nice early tames (and no saddles needed) I love the moschop as a first tame if possible, decent mount and very nice gathering of fiber! Something that is hard to get early on
That is true and I agree but you also have to factor in how picky moschops are and half the time they want either honey or raw prime fish meat which is hard in the early game so you’d have to get real lucky that they only want berries or cooked meat. Very good suggestion tho it is very hard to make a good list on the best dinos cause it really is up to the person playing and how they play and use their dinos!
@@rickyjt86 Indeed, I tend to keep an eye out and map mark a couple. Wound up with a level 60 one near spawn that kept wanting common berries and once tamed it was a beast as long as I wasn't knocked off.. but that's what the dilo army was used to prevent.
So... no Spino, not even in honorable mentions, even though they are fast, agile, and fierce. They are better than Rexes in every way except maybe Boss Fight.
@@onestepatatime0868 yeah on your boosted server I'm sure I play with official difficulty and I'm gonna tell you right now you aren't ever killing a giga with just a tamed thyla on official without severely weakening it
MEGATHERIUM!!! 95% of everything on the map will COMPLETELY IGNORE this mount!!! YOU CAN WALK THROUGH ANY CAVE WITHOUT AGROING ANYTHING!!! Except for the Ice Cave. Yeti and Polar Bears will attack and Purlovia will have a chance to knock you off ONLY if you attack another Purlovia.
I hate to tell people this, but The Island is the single most important map. You should endeavor to master it, before you actually try to beat the others. Sure, other maps might have more plot points to discover, but none of it exists without the island, and pretty much every map since still has the island at its core. Even the most off the wall dlc map is using the tried and true island standards underneath all of that fresh paint.
Great video phlinger!!! Great list as well except I feel like the megatherium should be considered as well and here’s why: they are good for bosses especially the broodmother, they can be used in caves (especially the cave of the immune) and most of all they’re omnivores so they can harvest berries and meat and they gather hella hide and fiber and when your breeding or cooking recipes or even crafting, megatheriums are hella useful in multiple ways. And one more things it’s very common to get a megatherium saddle blueprint in one of the beginning caves and I’ve noticed that while playing and also watching your videos especially in season 5! But aside from that I ultimately I agree, the argent is literally game changing and the best Dino!!
Playing Ark on PS4 has been frustrating at times, disappointing graphically at almost every turn, and brutally difficult to play solo, but the daily uploads and Ark: ABCs has made it so much more enjoyable. Keep up the stellar content Phlinger.
on my adventures on the island this is my top 10 1. Otter, Insulation is invaluable 2. Rex, this guy wrecks everything 3. Equus, portable Mortar and pestle 4. Hyaenodon, portable fridge 5. Argentavus, portable Smith and weight bird 6. quetzal, best platform mount imo 7. tusoteuthus, best underwater mount imo 8. Thylacoleo, it's too good to pass up 9. mammoth, as most of my bases are made with stone and wood it's a great gatherer and can serve as a portable water mount in a way 10. ankylosaurus, this guy saved me so much time making industrial items it wasn't even fair. for that it deserves a top 10 spot
I mean, I tottaly agree with the video, but the island is a classical map which means there are no special dinos, all the dinos will be as useful on other maps as well. Still great video
I would rank the Basilosaurus ahead of the Baryonyx as an aquatic utility mount. Their resistance to Cnidaria and Electrophorus stuns make them a game-changer for the aquatic areas. They are simply a must-have for aquatic exploration and the underwater dungeons.
@@Shotta2 The Bary is indeed an all-around really good mount, but it's not an endgame mount. A really good tool for obtaining an endgame mount, but not itself an endgame mount.
I watched your video from a couple years ago about best dinos for caves and you chose the baryonyx for most caves because it will fit in a lot of them, but with cryopods, would you still agree with that list? Cryos were added to The Island 6 months after you made that video, and it makes me wonder if you choices have changed?
@@SongbirdGaming I have yet to tame one, but I have a megatherium and just do not see how you can beat a bug buff when every cave has bugs, that was my thought behind the question. I need to get a Bary and see why everyone is such Baryonyx fans. With the buff, my Mega is doing 900 per hit, killing them faster with less time to inflict rabies and break my armor, it's hard to think the Bary can top that, but I'm mot saying it can't. I do not know how strong that stun attack is, getting one today.
@@shawnbybee85 in terms of damage the bary cannot top it, however, The bary does fit a lot better in caves so you will not need to cryo it several times like you do with the megatherium. Also bary can jump, heal extremely fast with fish meat, and swim
I would probably take the parry and the flying demon (ichy) off and add the otter and the mammoth. In the early game I don't care about taking effectiveness as much and I start kibble as soon as possible. So the otter is better. Parry's are good for early game enemy detection, but later on they just become annoying. Plus the mammoth gathers wood, thatch, and berries like no other. IMO. Great video though. Got me thinking about stuff again!
Early game I may not care so much about taming effectiveness, but I do care about time. If you aren’t playing on a massively boosted server, using prime can save SO much time.
as well since ive seen yer videos way more than anyone elses so i wanna share some stuff with you. 1. i got my 1st haircut yesterday (80% map unlocked) and did something i coulda done a long time ago as well, make dyes. kinda weird to say it but that felt like more of an achievement than almost anything else i done so far LoL 2. i spent a bit of time in the redwood and never seen a thylacoleo, i thought they were on a dif map altogether LoL now ima go get one soon as i log in! keep up the great content. oh PS: is there a guide on every hot key and every ability dinos get? some hotkeys arent even listed in the options, unless im overlooking somewhere, and ive watched almost all dino videos from you about dinos on the island map and u mention attack/alt attack and 2nd alt attack mostly but not every time. just 3 days ago i seen where u said we can use the C key fer dinos. LoL ima bit slow.
Dire Bear is my favorite overall tame - I love gathering berries, fiber, and meat with them - plus the super run is fun - Love you content as always Phlinger !!!
I love Spinos. They're a faster Rex- water buff is OP- so fun gathering meat on those dinos and they look OP. Head to the swamp eat a flower and you will have meat galore.
I just need two more Dino on this list and it is the Bronto...cause he gets narco berrys sooooo fcking fast...all you need is a tail swipe through those bamboo bushes....and there you go... And the Otter just because of his isolation....
Totally with you on the Otter, but I prefer the Stego over the Bronto, because they are easier to tame and you unlock the saddle way earlier and it is easier to craft.
@@RheaKano well yeah... You got a point there...one thing i didnt understood about the stego are his 3 different modes.... And another cool thing is, that there are tech stegos
@@herrsiroktopuss Yeah, I usually go for a bred Tek Stego, because Stegos are kind of slow unbred. Phlinger made a great video about the new Stego and his 3 different modes as well. You should check it out. For gathering berries it is sharpend mode and that is really all I am interested in. The other two are good for gathering wood and thatch - I don’t use them for that because they have no weight reduction for it.
@@RheaKano which Dinosaur ist good for farming thatch? For Wood i do always take Mammoths and Therezinos....but for thatch....do you know a good dinosaur for thatch? Or do you still use stegos for thatch, because thatch isnt that heavy
@@herrsiroktopuss Yeah, usually what the Stego gathers is fine. But a Mammoth is also not bad for thatch. It have one attack that gather more wood and one that gathers more thatch. If I really need a lot of thatch… well I don’t have a Mantis, I take a Triceratops - works surprisingly well - or a Megatherium if I need both thatch and fiber.
Arc survival the greatest game full of dinosaurs and and other prehistoric creatures where you have the least hazardous to the biggest toughest meanest Son of a bitches in all of ark
The first time I got an argy....it was beautiful. No one can touch you in the sky (at least on the island), and afer a couple of levels you can kill alphas, rexes, etc. They also unlock serious metal farming to go for the industrial revolition and dino transportation
Yeah I agree even tho it’s very key to have a basi for the underwater caves but there are more caves on land and barys are literally made for the caves👌🏼
@@rickyjt86 to be fair though you don't even need a basilo for the caves just pump 160 movement speed and least 200 stam can run both cunning and brute on foot very easily obviously need flippers too
I agree with most of this list. I would have to go with Otter over Ichthyornis, however, due to their Artifact carrying, and the insulation abilities for Snow and Underwater caves and the Megapithecus and Overseer (though the Fria Curry recipe is still needed for the bosses as well). The Ichthyornis are great for Spinosaurus and Baryonyx taming if you've yet to craft kibble, but not as necessary after you get kibble going. I like taming them both though :)
I agree the otter is key especially in the overseer fight and megapithicus and what makes them op is their artifact carrying feature idk how much time I saved with my otter on one cave trip instead of going back and forth just to drop off one artifact! I can do one cave multiple times before going back to base or even multiple caves multiple times!!!
Plus I would factor in taming difficulty in which the otter is wayy less difficult in comparison especially in the early game plus by the time On my playthroughs that im ready for a spino or a bary I can already craft a sickle and get prime fish meat so I guess it really just depends on how you play and your play style!
Not to mention it's the absolute best for the swamp cave and though there are certain spots it don't fit if you actually walk backwards through those spots it will fit don't ask why cause ark that's why
@@benistoneman9737 yeah takes a bit of work sometimes but I usually hug left side of wall while backing up and you can do whole cave without cryopod but in pve I'd probably just cryo tbh
great choices, i feel the beryonyx is exactly as rated as he needs to be (not under or over) but not too many speak of his amazing skills as yer main land mount. travels very fast, hits hard, jumps fair, and i think i heard someone mention this: his hit box sits u higher than sabers and raptor in caves so u dont get hit by arthoplura too often. ive only been in one cave and didnt get hit at all by them from my guess its true.
On official servers I was able to tame a 150 Parasaur and actually use it as an effective mount in the first, lower south, cave. So parasaurs are a great first tame, faster and easier than a Trike, but slightly harder to use as a berry gatherer. They're also pretty damn quick...
I really like the idea Phlinger suggested for carrying a Parasaur around the Redwoods to help spot Thylacoleos in the trees. I have a terrible time spotting them visually even with an actively-scanning Tek helmet. My usual way of "finding" them is to be pounced, dismounted, and killed by one.
@@SuperSpectus in my single player game I use a mod called Awesome Spyglass, it rolls the tek helemet outlinging ability with the magnifying glass and spyglass, plus gives you a list of taming items and how many you might need to tame what you are looking at. It also gives you handy gps co-ords in the top corner of the screen when turned on. Can be looked at as a bit cheaty, but makes life soooo much easier.
I really want to tame a thylo but the red woods give me anxiety. And phlinger I am playing ark on the lowest difficulty but I didn't know you can change that but if I put it on the highest which is I think what you play would my dinos get to the proper level or would they stay the same and could anyone give me some ideas on how to tame a thylo
If you have low difficulty you will only see low level dinos. If you change difficulty you will need to kill wild dinos in order for higher level dinos to spawn in. You can use console commands to force a dino wipe and spawn new dinos over the map. These actions will not affect dinos you have already tamed. You can go to ragnarok you can find thylas without going into redwoods, just pick them up with an argy and use a taming raft, google ragnarok thyla spawns, and you can transfer your dinos across maps using the obelisks
Yes not only do they hit faster than rexes but they also take 30% less damage from the dragons fire breath not only that but majority of the time he don't even hit them cause they're so short
If you wanna go all out yeah but I'd just recommend theris or good tek rex If you get like 10k hp and least 390 meele you only need about 5 n 5 health and meele mutations to just roll most bosses I lost 5 to dragon
It was a good video, and I believe pretty fair. I think the only thing I'd have personally changed is adding an honorable mention to mammoths. For my money, since the TLC they're basically on the same level as a theri. I know that opinion isn't shared by a large number of people though.
After you said Therisinosaurus can get anything, the video cut to a Taco Bell commercial and I didn't know it so I thought you were making a joke about Therisinosaurus getting you Taco Bell 🤣
1:20 A good way to prevent Ichtyornis taking your narcs is splitting meat or berries or other consumables in your inventory so each slot is 1 of whatever it is. Also if its early game and you don't have much narcs I recommend splitting each narc stack in half. It increases the chances of the Ichthy getting some but if it does its not a major blow to your stockpile. Also by splitting useless crap you don't care about or need reduces the chance of that happening so it's very effective. The more slots of useless stuff the less chance this menacing gull has of hitting the jackpot. One thing is that I play on the switch edition and that is quite outdated so I dunno if in a recent update they made gulls target specific consumables, that probably didn't change but just a heads up for all the other editions. Hope it helps anyways :) You can also do the same with Pegos (If you don't want to tame them) id recommend putting the stuff in your last inventory slot instead of your whole inventory and you can use items/ resources too.
I do that too! And I play on Xbox Series S... But once I forgot to take my kibble out, I had like 60 stacks of meat and from everything it took my kibble... I was laughing for about 5 min. xD
The reason why I hate the argentavis is because they are soooooo slow this is why I prefer a pteradon. But when I go farm metal/stone an arge is pretty useful
@@vanaiymivaimieko7224 I can make the net on the Island map. And yes that is without any kind of cheating. It's just an ammo type you use with the harpoon gun
@@vanaiymivaimieko7224 not true for me at least. I had a dedicated server with characters that only was ever on the Island and can learn the engram. No one on my server has had their character on any other map. You might be referring to official servers of which has way more restrictions on that sort of thing. If that's the case, he could have still mentioned that as an option and explained the difference.
You're by far, the best channel for reference material. Thanks for uploading! You've saved me so much time and answered so many questions, can't thank you enough!
Some of my favorites as well. Only changes I'd make would be swapping the Ichthy, parasuar, and doedicurus with the Otter, Yuty, and Equus. The Parasaur would have been my number 11. Great vid, very helpful for newcomers.
Creatures I just couldn't beat the island without argent Raptors baryonyx otter megatherium allos theris rexes yutyrannus dung beetle a monkey for my shoulder whom I name monkey beard
No respect for the mammoth! It gathers everything but fiber as well or better than a Therizino, can carry a ton, has a weight reduction on wood, is a giant tank, and can throw dinos if they annoy you.
in the very beginning I like Mochops they gave berrys and are very easy to breed great berry gatherers and also can be tanky when I am at a lower level but they are cowards as soon as anything is happening they are gone an yes Eqaus ( ug I cant spell) are great but by the time I get my crops I already have a lot of other dinos .
