I would agree with you, but in order to get to fortissax you need to beat the gargoyles. (an incredibly tough fight in comparison) or at least in my experience, I find them to be one of the hardest fights in the game.
@Carlos Gonzalez Fernandez Oh yeah right, I actually completely forgot about the entrance from the sewers. I always get the progression through the underground areas mixed up.
Maliketh can easily one shot you. His aggression is fine, you can punish him after basically every attack he can phase 1 and most of his attacks phase 2 and you can jump a lot of attacks. But he has major one-shot potential so his low HP makes up for it.
Love the vid. I would like to see a video regarding bosses that suck and how you would change them for the better. My example: Bed of Chaos, I would change it from a platforming nightmare into a battle with a fire sorceress in a shrinking arena. Not a perfect fix but better than the bombastic level of annoyance we have already.
I’m very surprised Laurence, Micolash, or Queen Yharnam isn’t here over Wet Nurse. Laurence is hyped up a lot being the root cause of the spread of beats and founder of the healing church. His fights just a flaming cleric beast 1-1 in appearance, sound, and mostly moveset. With the addition of an annoying phase 2 huge letdown. Micolash is very strange we aren’t made aware of his existence *at all* until his fight. He’s to blame for the events of the red moon and maddened world state. He randomly turns up and is dealt with in a terrible fight. Queen Yharnam is often in the background, leader of the Pthumerians, and force yourself through the chalice dungeons. Your reward is literally nothing and the fight itself isn’t much. Mergo is at least a fun fight with an interesting design.
This list feels like a lock for Bed of Chaos. Yeah, her being the worst boss is rightfully driven into the ground, but I think it's how profoundly disappointing she is that makes her so bad. The chaos witch of Izalith who unleashed all demons, as well as the final Lord Soul, is a HUGE amount of potential. For them to beef it so massively defines disappointing to me.
I would say in Elden beast is the most dissapointing for me. The arena is beautiful the atmosphere is on point but the amount of running away he does and elden stars make the fight so much worse. Elden stars is particularly bad because it taints the whole fight for me because I'm dreading when he does that attack the whole fight instead of soaking in the spectacle. And the solution for these problems was so easy. Just give us Torrent (or make him run away less) and either drastically reduce the duration of elden stars or cut it altogether and boom you have a fantasic final boss.
Bed of chaos is my worst dissapointment. We're talking about one of the lords here... Anyways... I would love to se a ranking of bloodborne arcane spells. Never seen one before
Surprised you didnt put Aldia in there as throughout SOTFS, he keeps popping up and questioning you and then when you finally fight him, you just run around until his defenses are down ,hit him a few times, then repeat. Maybe it is due to his multiple attacks why you didnt list him.
Aldia would have been my top pick, so I was shocked not even to see him in the top 10. See all the commentary about Champion's Gravetender and multiply it tenfold because Aldia was the new final boss of a brand spanking new DS II remix, and he's almost offensively boring. It was like they gave us a new early game boss but multiplied his HP a bunch to make him an end game boss. And they spent the entire game building up this fight on top of it. With all the great DLC bosses they came up with, there's no excuse for how bad Aldia ended up.
And I understand that you don't like the arrow attack, but c'mon, it is DS, and this attack is far from OP, I actually enjoy the adrenaline of running forever not to be fucked
Every boss in Elden Ring that isn't Malenia due to major balancing issues. You can get away with with playing terribly on a boss fight because of excessive number of flasks or stacking damage reductions or simply getting overleveled after thoroughly exploring the surrounding area.
People seem to think that Elden ring is meant to be played like that. If you want to get OP and over leveled, go spend the time meandering instead of learning the bosses. Elden ring does a bad job of teaching people to be agressive with bosses. Most don’t learn hoe to be in the flow state because Margit discourages them early on. You don’t need to be op to beat bosses. It’s more fun to spend time learning how to fight the boss than being cheap. It’s cool that elden ring has that option, but the nuances of the bosses are ignored by everyone who hasn’t mastered the system. It’s kind of like sekiro, with an emphasis on staggering.
A lot of bosses just need to be fought at lower levels to truly appreciate them. Pinwheel and Fortissax are significantly better fights if you intentionally go to them earlier.
For me Godskin duo is the most disappointing, i love their design and theme but their fight is made boring by them not having attacks that compliment each other, its just two enemies who although look like they match dont have any synergy. I wish that the arena had a big spiral in it leading to the Centre of the room and a cutscene plays and the Noble starts rolling in the spiral closing in on you. Any cool gimmick like that i think could have saved the fight.
I think Aldrich is the worst lord of cinder. In my opinion he is NOT FUN and insults Anor Londo which once had the best Duo boss in the entire series. Nashandra looks way too cool for the fact she has like 2 melee combos. Pinwheel with more HP would be one of the hardest bosses in Dark Souls 1.
How is a build that deals more damage wrong lol. And even then having to downgrade your character which isnt even possible sometimes just to fight an endgame boss that has shit balancing is a ridiculous ask when devs were supposed to make it good in the first place
@@Reinoiro it's wrong if you complain about the enemy dying too fast if you want them to die slower you have to play another build lol just logic. Other build other stats isn't a downgrad just use something that against your enemy isn't as strong as against others
@@Aszendor It's the devs' job to balance bosses, not the players. If a boss like Fortissax or Pinwheel dies too fast, it's because the boss has way too little health for the moment in progression its placed in. It's the devs that need to craft the boss to be balanced against as many builds and tactics as possible, not the players that need to go out of their way to find and use worse gear to make a fight even remotely fair for the boss. And since no normal player would ever actually want to do that, the boss will just forever be a pushover. It's just shitty inexcusable balance
@@Reinoiro lol that has nohing o do with how balanced it is it's not balanced if the strongest build in game has a tough challenge. You also can simply go there earlier like it doesn't take that long to unlock him you don't have to go into endgame for it
@@Aszendor If a boss dies too fast to even a weak build that has everything to do with balance. We are not talking about the strongest builds here, Pinwheel melts even to unupgraded weapons, and he still melts if you go there early. And Fortissax for example is a pretty mid to late game fight, and his health even for the earliest encounter possible is still too little. No one cares if a super overpowered build is too strong against a boss, hell you can oneshot bosses with a proper build, but it becomes a problem if even for an underprepared loadout a boss is still too easy and undertuned
I would say Elden Ring has the most dissapointing bosses, from Placidusax, Malenia, Fire Giant, Radahn, Elsen Beast... Some of them are really epic but their move set its very simple, and most of them like Malenia just depend on doing too much damage or having too much HP like the Fire Giant
Might be a hot take, but artorias might be the most disappointing boss to be. Before I first fought him I’d heard of his reputation as many peoples favorite boss, was difficult for a ds1 boss, and had really cool and quick-paced attacks. I went into the fight with half of my max estus due to exploring the forest before the encounter. I got hit maybe 5 times the entire fight and was able to understand the dodge timings almost immediately. Most of the attacks just looked like the default claymore attack animations the player has to me. The jump spin attack was a spectacle, but he only did it once, and wasn’t very hard to dodge either. It was definitely a fun fight, but I was very underwhelmed considering his reputation in the souls community.
If you go to Deeproot early at around level 70 with a +6-8 weapon Fortissax is a fantastic fight. And once you’ve fought Fortissax a lot the tracking lighting isn’t annoying
Plus I think they wanted you to fight him targeting the head with timing and jump attacks. He doesn't put the tracking lightning on you if you aren't going under his body, and he lowers his head often. I don't blame people for not realising this though, I only came to this conclusion after finding out about this method in a lv1 run.
@@eser8167 I think his head is like a weak point they want you to try to hit when you can. It’s in melee range a lot less often then say Midir. I like to fight him moving switching from his head to body, when he does the roar with the scripted lighting strikes I circle around him and hit all his limbs timed so that I can run to escape the tracking lighting while moving between them. I have a video on my account of my first fight with him from around a year ago that I just uploaded recently so if you want to see what I mean it’s there. Fortissax is really a blast, you just need to learn how to fight him.
I would love to see a list of bosses that are saved by their lore. Like for example, Sif in my opinion is an ok fight, but what makes it special is what we know about its relation to artorias still morning him and protecting his grave. A video like that would be really interesting imo.
This would be awesome. Another one would probably be gwyn. Not that he’s a bad fight at all it’s just that he isn’t really presented as a final boss that ”well“. No loud music, no cutscene. The whole game you know youre going to fight this guy. Just to then see him and think to yourself ”wait, that’s it?“. But when regarding the lore around him fromsoft couldn’t have chosen a better way for the player to be confronted with him.
I was watching someone streaming on twitch a while ago that was fighting the pinwheel. Someone redeemed a sound effect that makes him need to not attack for 1 minute. There was a point where the fight had so many pinwheels that he was almost dying. It was so cool to see, I thknk thats what fromsoft was going for
@@couchwilly5575 Considering that you can get to them directly from Firelink, he is probably meant to be fought early. However, the graveyard discouraged people from going to him until much later.
I think Aldrich is disappointing because he's probably the most hyped Lord in the entire game. Characters are constantly mentioning him and he's said to have turned a Lord of Cinder just due to his might, and when you eventually reach him, he's just "ok".
Imo Malenia has way too much potential wasted, the entire fight, both phases has some incredible attacks and mechanics, but waterfowl... They had to add an attack that is litteraly impossible to with dodges, it's so stupid that on top of pixel perfect timing, you need super obscure positioning to be able to succesfully dodge it without getting hit, like watch Let me Solo her's all Malenia streams, even my guy the king dies like 1/4 times when she does it lmao
Yeah. Radahn and her were the bosses I was looking forward to the most in Elden Ring, because they seemed to be the strongest of the game from the trailer (which in lote they kind of are). And although Radahn left me a bit disappointed, Malenia was a complete letdown. Such a wasted potential.
My biggest gripe with Adlrich was the lack of a cutscene, for a lord of Cinder, he has like 5 or 6 attacks, no significant phase 2 and it feels like you kinda just stumble upon him and to get teleported to a better fight, Dancer.
I’m surprised that no one else said this but Fías champions isn’t just random NPC spam. If you’re playing online then it’s actually using real players builds that are saved when they get hugged by fia. So you get a different challenge and experience every play through. It’s only random NPCs if you’re playing offline
I agree with almost all of your picks here. My main disagreements would be for Dragon God and Pinwheel. Dragon God: I think having this boss as a puzzle fight makes perfect sense. Dragon God had been built up to be this crazy powerful 'deity' of sorts. The intro cutscene in the remake would be my prime example. With their limited technology, a normal fight would have sucked and felt anticlimatic imo. It would be like Ceaseless Discharge. Dodge the same slam, smack his arm, repeat. I enjoy the uniqueness of this puzzle fight. That being said, its poorly balanced and I think the second phase doesn't seem right. I would put Old Monk in that spot. The NPC version of this fight is an actual joke. He has like two moves and you just wail on him until he's dead. Such a cool buildup for a boss, in an incredible area, and then we get that letdown. Pinwheel: I kinda like that he's a joke boss. The Catacombs can be an incredibly frustrating area. Imagine if Pinwheel was a hard boas and you had to run through those bonewheels every time to get back to him. It would become incredibly frustrating. Id actually go with Nito for the most disappointing boss in the series. He was so close to being a great fight that would be somewhat rewarding for going through the worst area in the game. He has a cool moveset, but you barely see it. His melee swings never hit you if you stand up close to him, which is laughable. So they shoved in mobs to increase his difficulty, and they gave him this massive AOE in a pretty tiny boss room. He was so close to being an amazing DS1 boss. Just delete the adds, give his melee attacks axtual hitboxes in front of him so you actually have to dodge him and boom, fun boss with an incredible design and lore to match.
For video ideas, how about top bosses in an artistic sense? Like the artistic/ stylistic merits of a boss from its place in the story, buildup, arena, design, and music. If you don’t know what I mean, for example if I made that list I would include Demon of Hatred. Demon of Hatred is amazing, from the small buildup with the claws and rapid descent into misery for the sculptor during the fight. His face is constantly contorted in fear, misery, anger, or perhaps hatred, we can’t know for sure. When you use the Malcontent whistle, he tries to hold in his tears and cries on the third whistle. And the design for the Demon is one of the most unique demon/oni designs I’ve ever seen. His kabuki poses (called mie which indicates when a character has reached a peak in emotions) after every attack, give so much stylistic flare to this demon. His design and poses makes the fight look like the traditional ukiyo-e with demons and yokai have come to life. His music is also incredibly powerful and beautifully composed too. The dissonant string instrumentation creates a sense of horror for the first phase, and then the second phase kicks in with that beautiful but still dissonant flourish of flutes. It gives off imagery of pain and suffering, as if the music is crying in pain, reflecting Sculptor’s desire for Sekiro to kill him. It’s one of the best fromsoft osts in my opinion.
Video idea: weakest to best lore across the Soulsborne series. From Demon’s Souls to Elden Ring Video idea: Explaining your take on Pyromancy, Sorcery, and Miracles and which is your favorite out of the three. Video idea: Bossfights aside, who do you like personally out of Gwyn, Allant, Vendrick, Isshin and Radagon? And who is the strongest? Video idea: Tier list of Soulsborne waifus Video idea: Listing your favorite NPCs or a NPC tier list or worst to best NPCs across the Soulsborne series Video idea: either Worst to best or top 10 boss cutscenes
Boss cutscene ranking would be nice. Bloodborne would fill half the list probably lol Gherman, Ludwig, Maria and Gascoigne all had epic and badass cutscenes. Sif and Gael should definitely deserve a spot. Sif's alternative cutscene if you helped her in Oolacile before fighting her was very special. Other than that Isshin's & Genichiro's cutscenes should definitely be high up as well.
Im surprised this isn’t in the list: Moon Presence. The most important character in Bloodborne having less HP than a regular enemy while performing an attack which basically gives you free damage on the boss because it just stand still for no reason. All of this while having a generic and boring moveset like a tutorial boss. How to make it better? 1. Make it that the boss doesn’t stay still after making you lose all your health. That’s a real threat. 2. More HP. 3. Incorporate the blood moon into the fight in the form of special and unique attacks. There is no connection between the moon and the great one when it comes to actual gameplay. The fight feels like it should take place right after Gherman without any checkpoints in between them with how easy and simple it is. For me it’s a clear number 1. Also an honorable mention would be Yhorm. I like the fight itself but you can’t feel anything else but disappointment after witnessing the opening cutscene. Most people think of Yhorm as a huge Titan like in that one meme artwork but in the end he’s like 5m tall and that’s it. This together with him being a in comparison to other bosses really easy gimmick fight doesn’t make the situation any better. I truly think without that banger intro the boss would be received way better. But in the end it’s just wrong expectations instead of boring gameplay so I still think he’s fine.
Small addition: I learned that the moon presence‘s ‚loose all your HP‘ attack gives the player a special effect where they regain HP twice as fast for 10 seconds. So the fight is even easier than already.
A video on the best boss buildups good be cool. Like the anticipation of climbing lothric castle to get to the twin princes, or the radahn festival leading up to radahn’s fight,
You can fight fortisax after radahn, it's just that you have to get through a bunch of bosses and requires a quest, so most people just don't do it until later on. Still the fight is kind of annoying to me but yea
I think yhorm definitely should’ve been on this. He was the most hyped up boss prior to the release of ds3, being on all the posters and trailers. Then even after release his giant tomb in the fire link shrine is so menacing, getting you hyped up for the fight, but when you actually get to him he turns out to be a complete cakewalk
I'm suprised Rennala didn't make the list. If they made phase 1 so you didn't have to repeat it amd doubled or tripled her phase 2 health, it would be a great fight worthy of a great rune.
I know this may sound a little controversial but I feel that Mohg could’ve been done a little bit better as except for nihil and his wings his fight isn’t really too different from his sewer appearance. Making him feel a little like blood Morgott
I sincerely believe that most of the reused bosses were added much later into the games development to just fill an area. Mohg was obvious designed first with his arena in mind, but they needed a boss for the sewers so they just took his first phase and shoved him in there.
@@Timebomb_19 yeh which id it argue deminishes his impact later on. Unlike Margit/ Morgott who has a completely different boss theme and several new moves and a brand new weapon and Godfrey who’s second phase is completely different to his first
Although I definitely wouldn't mind if Fortisssax was tankier, I actually really loved his boss fight. I personally prefer his fight over Placidusax. Lich Dragon > Dragon Lord
When I thought about Aldrich, I also thought about how disappointing the area was. Felt like a watered-down, uninspired Anor Londo with copy-pasted enemies. Maybe a top disappointing areas list, with that being said.
I think Gwyndolin is a much better fight than Aldrich. In Gwyndolin’s fight, you are pursuing him. In Aldrich’s fight, you are always running away from him, which is not as fun as Gwyndolin. Despite being a more fleshed out version, Aldrich feels worse to fight because admittedly, running away is sometimes more boring than just dodging three attacks with cover.
How about a sort of opposite to this topic? Bosses with memorably good fights but an okay-ish story. A personsl choice of mine would be the Dragonslayer Armor. A fast-paced fight with a towering opponent that tests your skill with positioning serves as your last major roadblock before the Twin Princes, the Dragonslayer Armor demands your attention and can wipe you out with ease if not given enough. However, there isn't any sort of tragic tale to back the fight, nor a story about a great warrior. Instead, all we really get is "yeah, those things floating around that do nothing outside of this fight control it".
I think Renalla from Elden Ring could have shared #1 with pinwheel or have been at least #2. Phase 1 is just deacons of the deep and phase 2 is just running in a circle around her. The easiest shardbearer by far. Also how proportions are wierd as has a human sized head, but a massive body
