Fun fact about Soaring: The screens are made of a bunch of metal sheets with small holes in them. They also aren't like normal screens because they're painted blue to make the curvature less noticeable.

Reminds me of seeing the first Frozen movie in theaters, and when the big, emotional moment happened when Anna saved Elsa but the curse took her, this kid on the other side of the theater from me and my family just blurted out "SHE'S FROZEN!" and *ALL* tension and sadness was removed from the scene because everyone was giggling so much at that adorable child.

Honestly, I wish places like Disney world would share the behind the scenes stuff more. Being able to see the rides normally is great, but as a stage hand, I think I'd prefer to see _how_ it all works more, since so much works goes into it.

During Disney World’s 50th anniversary, my sibling and I went on Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway for the first time and we got stuck at the Ballroom scene for about a couple seconds to a minute. Daisy was talking and doing her thing when she stopped with her hands up in the air. This only lasted for a little bit before the ride picked back up again but it was funny how my sibling said: “Daisy had a stroke.”

I remember way back, when I experienced an intermittent breakdown on Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. Basically, what was happening, was the vehicle getting stuck at various places throughout the ride. The work lights did not come on, and no attempt at an evacuation was made (the moments where we were stopped didn't warrant a ride evacuation, as they weren't long enough). Rather than detract from the magic, I feel this added to it. It gave the feeling that the newfangled jeep or whatever that Sallah made had stalled in the depths of the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, leaving you stranded in the dark, with death approaching you from all directions... and just when all hope seemed lost, the vehicle sputtered to life, taking you out of multiple dangerous situations and to the safety of the excavation site.

That is such a cool way to look at the malfunctions. Indi is such a good ride and I have gotten stuck on it before, like back in 2019. It was towards the end in the scene right before the boulder. It was the skeletons with spears scene. A bunch of other ride elements had been malfunctioning that time but there was no air pumping out of the walls for effect. Then the sound cut out and we stopped in the middle of the scene. The show lights came on and it was really cool. There is not much that goes into that scene. After like 15 minutes the ride was running again and we got to go through it a second time. That was such a cool experience for me.

An explanation for the Haunted Mansion one, the computer that was controlling most of the attraction was running Windows and decided to bluescreen. When Windows bluescreens while audio is playing, either the millisecond of audio playing is looped until the computer restarts itself or a sound buffer was once initialized and looped 3500ms of the sound instead. Don't credit me.

It was interesting to me that they couldn't get all of the work lights to come on. You would think that there would be an override switch to turn them on manually in the event the ride system freaks out like this.

There was one time I got stuck on the Alice in Wonderland ride at Disneyland. We were stuck on the incline right before the very quick Unbirthday scene at the end for like 30 minutes. And it was super weird because we were literally outside but because of the steep incline (and probably some other reason) the fire department had to come get us out. It’s my favorite in show exit I’ve ever had and I HATE that I didn’t get pictures or a video.

And if you are going to work there for a definite time and are not from Paris, they will give you somewhere to live so you don't have to look for it! I remember that when my family went to Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida, we were at Epcot and we went on the ride Soarin. (I think that’s how you spell it) we were halfway through the ride and I remember my little brother freaking out. (First time riding) but should halfway through, the screen turned blue. And we were stuck on the highest part all the way up in the air, That was not so pleasant. That was my first ride break down ever. Also the ride stopped and we couldn’t ride it :’)

Oh my goodness it’s so fascinating that you’re all so excited about the rides breaking down. I was stuck on that creepy imagination ride at EPCOT for about 15 minutes listening to an endless 30 second loop and it made me almost go crazy.

The reason for a phase one with lights on at pirates of the Caribbean is most likely because some very intelligent guests decided to switch rows before the first drop and accidentally unbalanced the boat, causing it to get jammed before it can go down. They brought the lights on because they probably had issues jiggling the boat over the first drop and needed to see if there was anything that maintenance needed to look at. Phase one can take 30 minutes or an hour and 30 minutes. So if you are ever in phase one for an extended amount of time, get comfortable, and do not bother the pirates. They are there to make sure that nobody gets out of the boat without proper assistance. Those boats are not as stable as they seem.

IMAX dome screens are extremely thin. I live by MOSI which has an IMAX dome and they start every movie by turning on the lights so they can show off the very impressive sound system, which is behind the screen. The screen needs to be thin so it doesn't cause any negative effects to the sound.

Back in 2015, I've experienced a small breakdown in Magic Kingdom's POTC. During the battling ships scene the boats just stopped. Like that's it. No work lights, no in-show exit, just a bunch of boats watching the same scene over and over. What was fun was the fact that after the 3rd run of the scene, the guests (including myself) started acting the scene with each half of the boat playing a ship. I did stage directions (And cannon!). A few minutes later the ride resumed but it was a fun guest experience, especially for a 15 year old, first time visitor at the parks

I've been on two ride breakdowns: On Monsters Inc. it broke down at the very beginning in the tunnel so the evacuation was boring. On Incredicoaster we were stopped for 30 minutes at the last break section right before the loading area. The evacuation lead us behind the scenes through the back lot, but they told us not to film anything.

I have actually had a breakdown right after Phantom Manor's stretching room. A part of a wall (I think it was a fake shelf) moved to reveal a very weird bland stairway that took you outside. It showed that you really don't go as far down as you think.

The stretching room in Disney Land was invented because they had to find an in-theme way to get the guests to a lower level so they could walk under the berm around the park to get to the show building on the other side of the train tracks. In the rest of the variations of the haunted mansion (Such as the one in Disney World), the stretching room stretches upwards instead of down. Imagineers considered just omitting the stretching room since it wasn't needed as an elevator, but it's such a charming part of the experience they built an inverse version where the ceiling moves up instead of the floor dropping down. I imagine Phantom Manor is similar in that the stretching room doesn't drop you down.

We once got stuck on space Mountain Disneyland. They pushed us down the hill and we got to ride the ride with all the lights on, which was really cool. And then they let us go on again without even getting out of the vehicle. Such an awesome experience

When we were on the Nemo ride this summer the ride was moving at a snails pace. I really thought we would just breakdown at any moment. We saw the scene where Marlin is being chased by Bruce reset itself like 3-4 times. Then we get to EAC scene and I had to end up looking down at the projectors on the ground because it was making me sick watching the bubbles go by so fast and us go so slow

I've never gone through the in show exit procedure and I've never seen a malfunction like those you've shown, not even on the ones that are supposed to be common like Splash Mountain, but I HAVE gone through temporary ride stops where the cast members got the ride moving without more than an announcement. If I counted correctly, the People Mover is probably the one ride with the most instances of the recorded audio coming on to announce it and I never heard a cast member announcement on that ride. I've only ever heard maybe five total cast member announcements resulting from an issue that stopped the ride.

Happy Halloween! We went to Disneyland this past summer and we were stuck on the Haunted Mansion for like 15 minutes. We got stuck in the attic scene so we were able to get some really looks at the set there. One thing I remember were a pair of porcelain figurines...with of course the boy knocked over with his head broken off. It was so neat!

I got stuck in front of Elsa once on Frozen Ever After, had my shell stop 3 times in The Little Mermaid, and I had Test Track break down and we had to exit the attraction. I’ve been though lots of things at the Disney parks 👍

I've had two major breakdowns on my two most recent Disneyland trips: * 2016 - Indiana Jones broke down while my car was in the final turn before the boulder. The music went off, the car stopped, and the hydraulics would repeat the normal motions for going around the corner once every couple of minutes. The work lights didn't come on, and they eventually got the cars to the load area with no audio on the way. * 2018 - Radiator Springs Racers stopped while I was on the road into the town after Mater's tractor-tipping scene. The work lights came on immediately when we stopped, and we were stuck there for ~20 minutes until a cast member came to get us. I learned some neat things walking out: the only parts of Frank that actually exist in the ride are the blades and part of his head; Mater leading you to the tractor field is actually two separate animatronics - one by Sheriff and another that takes over when the first goes behind a bush so the first can meet the next car; and one of the minivans you swerve past before meeting Sheriff has a bumper sticker on the rear bumper that says "Nice Butte."

Whenever screens are used like in Finding Nemo, I always feel like the magic is lost. Railway is much more effective and you don't really notice. Even in things like Velocicoaster, the screens before launch feel lazy and really I think detract from the experience. You have to be so insanely careful and crafty with how you use them. If you are going to have screens, there needs to be other things to draw you into the moment.

I've never had an in-show exit but I've been on Haunted Mansion when it temporarily malfunctions and the Doom Buggy stops. It's pretty unnerving, especially if the lights are off and the animatronics are still moving all around you. This was when I was a kid and I was starting to freak out a little. Speaking of Haunted Mansion, the harmonizing on that malfunction tone was gold! Best part of the video!

At 1:15 , I just want to clarify that this isn't necessarily an old version of Windows. They may have just disabled the Aero theme (or whatever the current is) and opted to use the Windows Classic theme to divert all performance to the show.

Two years ago I went to Space Mountain with my family. After the ride was done, they announced that the ride was down and I was stuck in the vehicle for like 5 minutes. My sister saw the cockpit with 6 people in there instead of two. Then later we managed to get out.

I was there on the day that screen was broken on Midway Mania! I rode it after it opened back up, and they couldn't get that screen to work still. Instead, they left it on with the game completely off, there was a purplish background and a Microsoft logo, and they weren't putting anyone in the seats that would be playing on that screen.

I have to get this off my chest, one time me and my brothers got on Magic Kingdom’s Space Mountain, and when it got to a piece of straight track right beside the lift hill, the train suddenly stopped. At first I thought, “wait, why did we stop?” And when the lights went on, I thought “Oh no! we’re in trouble now!” The worst part about it, was that there was almost nothing we could do about it. We all waited for what felt like an hour before cast members finally came and saved us.

It's strange they still use Windows XP for the ride's control system. I can tell that it is XP because of the style of crash pop up window seen at 1:27. They NEED to upgrade the operating system to Windows 10 or 11 (XP is over a decade out of date) and maybe it won't crash!

I've been evacuated from Expedition Everest before. It was after the big drop, before you do another drop where the Yeti is. We got to walk backstage inside the "mountain". Was cool to see.
