man this is awesome , i have a machine looks to be a little longer and have been wanting to do the treadmill motor upgrade on the mill part , you went all out, great vid
Your presentation of the Combo Machine that most guy’s love to hate, was excellent. You certainly out did yourself with all your upgrades. I like these machines and I owned one for more than 10 years. Then I bought a large lathe built to “Tool room precision”. But whenever I had a small and not critical job, I always went straight to my little Combo.
I never understood the haters. I think the biggest issue is unrealistic expectations. If you expect a $2000 combo to perform like two $5000 stand alone machine you're never going to be happy. There is a group of us combo machine owners on Facebook and it is the most ingenuitive bunch I have ever been around.
I've been watching your videos for the past couple of days and really admire your fabrication skills and knowledge. I have a slightly newer version of the exact same machine. I also dumped the mill as its accuracy was questionable at the best of times. My number 1 mod was to install ball screws, stepper motors, controllers, an old computer running Windows XP, with Mach3 installed. This has totally transformed my ability to do good machining. Try it, I'm sure you'll like it.
Thanks, my fabrication skills were acquired by trial and error. I am mostly self taught. The accuracy of the mill improved significantly when I made it its own machine, especially after it was upgraded to an adjustable column. As for the CNC part of it at this point I am content being a manual machinist. I like working the hand wheels and do not foresee making any changes in the future.
They are basicaly the same machine... in fact my tail stock had green paint on the bottom. Let me know if you have any questions, also come joine our mill lathe combo Facebook page.
Sir when you changed the lathe Chuck to 5 inch four jaw ,did you make a mounting plate for the new Chuck? I have not removed the 3 jaw Chuck? And don't really know how to remove it?. Let me know if you have time. Thank you Karl
Mine is held by 3 M8 bolts on the back that are hard to get to. I then used this adapter to make it fit. Let me know if you have any other questions amzn.to/3ZNLGNQ
I do not know, it almost looks home made or like a DIY kit but I am just guessing. Hopefully someone more knowledgable than I will see your request and have the answer for you @@LOOKATTHISRAFFF
