We have a Mudi with heterochromia and she’s the most energetic and smartest dog. We rescued her from a farm in hungary ❤️

My Catahoula leopard dog used to surf with me and could do the 2 mile ocean swim with me! They are pure athletes, and super intelligent- he had a working vocabulary of 250 words. He could signal please, thank you and you're welcome appropriately and charmed the socks off of everyone. He was the smartest dog I have ever owned! I miss him everyday.

The only two breeds I've heard of on this list are the Thai Ridgeback & the Chinook. The rest are new to me. Would love to see a cat version of this!

I had two Catahoulas. Such personalities! Bossy, very loving and silly .

My favorite dog ever is the Canis africanis also known as the African Village Dog. She was related to a couple other dogs on this list, but with the best of all those traits. She was the smartest dog I've ever known, semi-feral, and loved to sing with me when I played guitar and harmonica (her fave. song was The Punch Bros version of "Heart in a Cage"). She was incredibly athletic and loved to go for long runs in the heat. I adopted her when I lived in South Africa and witnessed her hunt and bring down an antelope 4x her weight with another dog - I was both horrified and amazed. When I moved back I took her with me. Her favorite place to be in the whole wide world was the beach! Here's to you Sana wa Pungela! I hope one day dogs of this breed will be available outside of sub-Saharan Africa.

I have a Cane Corso Italiano and she’s a service animal. Yes every breed can be aggressive when they or their owner is threatened. But training and how they are raised has a lot to do with how they respond in all situations.

My family dog when I was a kid was a Catahoula! She was like a big sister to my younger sibling and I. Very well trained, smart and patient with us kids. A few years after she passed in 2009, my parents adopted a Houla mix. She’s not the brightest and she’s the spoiled baby of the family, but she’s a sweet little girl. Shout out to all the Houla families out there! 💕Love you Bayou! Love you Willow!💕

Manchester terriers are the Gentlemen's terrier- pretty uncommon but wonderful apartment/city dogs. Small, loving and still possessing that terrier spirit I love. I especially love their sleek, shiny coat and their athleticism. Worth checking out if you like small, smooth coated dogs.

I was a proud Catahoula mom. They are incredible dogs but I can get why a lot of people don't know about them. They are very much working dogs and require a lot of patience and training.

I had friends with a Dingo. Squire fell in love with my Schnauzer. Tina was a spayed girl and couldn't figure Squire's obsession. He was an extraordinary dog. We have Malamutes now. Loving and athletic clowns.

The Mudi, Azawahk, Stabyhoun and Sloughi are the ones I’ve never heard of before. That’s cool, to be honest; now I know of four dog breeds I didn’t know of before!

These dogs sound so beautiful I can see why they are not that popular as the dogs that we know like golden retrievers I am so proud and thankful to be a dog person because I grew up around dogs all my life and they are like the greatest pets you could ever ask for they love you they always give you comfort and they always look out for you

Not a bad list! The only ones I havent heard of were the Azawak and the stabyhoun. Knew about all the other ones. But ive done/ watched dog agilities and dog shows.

Jury's still out on whether they are actually a domestic breed developed by humans, or whether they're a truly wild subspecies of wolf. They are the sister breed to the Australian dingo, about whom these questions also remain unanswered. So Lundehunds are not only polydactyl, but those extra digits are useful. Huh. Bet you have to have a fence that's impossible to scale.

We believe my foster is a Sloughi normal greyhound cross. She looks just like a Sloughi but with the greyhound ears we meet up with one of her litter mate every couple of weeks and that pup looks just like a normal greyhound. If they are not Sloughi crosses then they are most likely Canis Africanis crossed with a greyhound.

My fave breed of dog is mongrel...direct from the streets.

My little one is Pekingese shih tzu bichon frisée mix and is one of a kind to me because he was first born and only male out of 5 puppies. His mother let me handle him as he was born and I wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for him.

The stabyhoun is a frissian dog breed. NOT dutch. The frissians where in the netherlands a 1000 years before the dutch. It was a sister breed called the wetterhoun.

The Otterhounds number at 800 registered worldwide. So, still rare. In fact, there are MORE giant pandas on this planet than this breed.

i had a as you call it stabyhoun in dutch it friese stabij but if seen a few now and they have changed cuz my dog was rly good with everything except loud noises and things on wheels and people who ran past him from behind but now i see that there not good with anything at;east one i walk she doesnt like it when people walk by even dogs she doesnt like she bark growls and just wants to attack everything and raising her is not the isseu cuz the poel e who raised her had 2 other before and they where the cutest and gentelest dogs ever idk how or why she is like that

I own a Heinz 57 dog. She’s a mixture of breeds, but she’s the smartest dog I have ever had. I’ve previously had a Catahoola/Blood Hound dog, a German Shepard/Chow, an Akita, and 2 Basset Hounds. Oh I also had an Otter Hound , and a Pitbull.

I've heard of all of the breeds on this list. And seen irl some of them 😁

10) Catahoula Leopard dog is NOT rare. It's just rare in the AKC, The UKC has registered them for YEARS now, and they're actually a pretty popular dog. 9) Mudi has one of the craziest tails I have ever seen in the dog world. They carry their tails all kinds of ways and also have natural bob tails and some are even docked. 8) Thai ridgeback I have liked this dog for literal decades. They're not a very easy breed of dog. I wanted one, but at the time, there were ZERO in the US. 7) New Guinea Singing Dog. Some places have these dogs in zoos as they're not really considered very domesticated. 6) Azawakh Honestly, just your typical rail thin built long distance running sight hound. There's not much special about them. I'll stick to the saluki. 5) Otterhound Fun fact, many people believe the Airedale is NOT a terrier but instead is an offshoot of the otterhound. These guys have some inbreeding depression going on and as such, there are genetic things to worry about. They need an outcross for some genetic diversity IMO.. and what do you know.. The Airedale could easily be used. 4) Stabyhund One of my best friends is Dutch, and I used to joke with her for years to send me some of these dogs, so I could have the first, because I knew as soon as the show people got these dogs here in the US, they were going to ruin them. These are some nice all around little dogs. 3) Sloughi is another sighthound. And like before, I prefer the saluki.. Interestingly enough, there are short haired salukis and there are people that believe the sloughi was developed from the short haired saluki. I have also heard the same said using the afghan instead of the saluki. 2) Chinook almost went extinct and had SEVERE inbreeding problems. The UKC along with the breed club started doing a monitored outcross program where they crossed a chinook with another breed, back crossed, back crossed, back crossed and if the 4th generation back cross (F4) passed all the health tests and a physical evaluation, they would be registered as pure. Funny enough the pure bred brigade from the AKC hates the F1-3 dogs, but break their necks in order to get their hands on the F4s. I don't get this breed. But it goes to show how people will make a breed of anything. If you ask me, they look like typical german shepherd/labrador mutts. 1) Norwegian Lundehund is another breed with a cross breeding project in it's home country, because they are so inbred, it was not just affecting fertility, but they had a genetic condition that affected their intestines and ability to absorb food. So... I guess they were wrong I knew every breed and I know a bit about every breed mentioned. This.. was not a vid for REAL dog lovers, lol.
