Tragic that “I Can’t Tell You Why” and “Love Will Keep Us Alive” didn’t at least make Honorable Mention. Tim Schmidt is the reason why the 1994 reunion was even possible let alone actually happened. And those Tracks are badass!
@@earthlingsareinsane7193 Agreed. None of their post reuinion music was comparable to their 1970’s music. Get over it is also a pitiful attempt at songwriting
The Eagles were probably the most talented overall band out there! They were all Stars in their own right Joe, Henley, Frye, Felder, Randy, Bernie, Timothy! They were All incredible!
I'm only 17 but I've loved the eagles since i was no age. I only wish there was more music like this in today's society instead of the filth on our airways
Take It To The Limit is probably my favorite song from the Eagles. I love the high notes that Randy was capable of hitting. It saddens me that Randy hated having to sing it in concert and felt forced to do it. I don't know if he didn't realize just how good he was or if he hated being the front man. I wish that he could have enjoyed his performances more. However, there are many people in this world who don't want to be the center of attention. RIP Randy. I sure love you and your contribution to the music world. God bless ❤
From what I've heard Randy said the song was vocally strenuous and he was scared he would mess up the song Live. So, one night he just refused to sing and after an argument he left and was kicked out of the group
@mistyapril29 I have read about what happened that night. Randy singing "Take It To The Limit " would have been their 3rd encore. He refused bc he wasn't feeling well. When Glenn Frye insisted he sing it anyway, Randy poured a beer over Glenn's head. This is not the typical nice guy Randy was known to be. Obviously, he wasn't feeling well for whatever reason. It astounds me that Randy left and gave up any rights as an equal owner of the "Eagles ". He must have wanted out pretty badly to give up any royalties. IMO, Glenn was an egomaniac and caused many other issues including firing Don Felder. I'm certain that there are many other untold stories. I hope that someday, someone will speak the absolute truths and untold stories. Thanks for your comment 👍.
In interviews I've seen of Walsh and Felder, RM was suffering from some type of gastrointestinal problem (ulcers perhaps). In any case, I understand Meisner wasn't quite the "equal" partner that many assume, with Henley and Frey being more equal than the others. Given that Frey and Henley did the majority of writing I guess they have a good case. @@susanbrown4026
@@lord_beethoven1169 Is really sad what kind of life Randy went on to live. I just loved him and breaks my heart how things turned out for him. Seems maybe he was afraid of stardom and did not feel real secure with his talent even though he was amazing.
@@halibut1249Absolutly, Randy sings, lead on this and his high octive falsetto voice he takes it to a climax twards the end in a raging glory! ....and also in One,of These Night Randy's high harmonizing faksetto voice just soars over the others and clicka, with Don Henlys lead vicals,on the song.
"I Can't Tell You Why" should have been on this list. That song and "One Of These Nights" had crossover appeal which got play on R&B/Soul radio stations (way back in the day). Not an easy feat, but the Eagles did it! 😎
John Boylan, who produced their 2nd album, was somewhat unimpressed with the group until one day during a break in the studio, he heard the group do their harmonizing exercise singing 7 Bridges Road a capella. He was struck by the harmony and told them that was IT...that was their sound. Those harmonies have been the key to their success.
@sundown l Great taste. I wish all teens and young adults were introduced to classic/soft rock as you were probably by older relatives and friends. My sons are 25 and 20 unfortunately neither took an interest even tho I play alot of that genre at home and in my car. 😏😑
My daughter learned all the words to “Hotel California “ when she was only 4. I promised her that we would go see the Eagles in person. Of course, they broke up the following year. I got tickets for the “Hell Freezes Over” tour when they played in Charlotte. And they had to cancel it when Glenn Frey got sick. We finally got to see them and when the stage went dark the first three notes of “Hotel California “ rang out my daughter and I had tears in our eyes.
You can say that again.....without Felder it wouldn't have been written, Don Felder wrote the music to Hotel California before the lyrics were put to it!
Norwegian 68 years old bohemian here who is a huge fan of both The Eagles and Bob Seger. If I have to chose I guess it would be Seger but both are great!
Jackson Brown wrote Take It Easy but got stuck on the 2nd verse. Glenn Frey wrote, “standin’ on the corner in Winslow, Arizona, such a fine sight to see, there’s a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowin’ down to take a look at me” - arguably one of the most memorable lines of all time.
I can not understand why Randy Meisner didn't want to do "Take it to the Limit" in concert, was a beautiful song and so well done by him, probably my favorite song of the Eagles, though many were so good it's hard to say for sure.
It is a beautiful song and should be much higher on this list. It’s also very difficult to sing and Randy may have been afraid that he wouldn’t sing well. It’s too bad, but thankfully RU-vid has a video and it’s incredible.
Yes, Randy couldn’t always hit the high notes and it gave him anxiety. It was a fan favorite in concert and they liked to use it as an encore. Randy left the band after an argument back stage with Glen Frey when he refused to sing the song on a night when he didn’t think he could hit the notes.
Allow me to kick off this Mojothon weekend with... "oh, WatchMojo you're so running out of ideas..." :) as we shower you with 5 clips on Saturday and Sunday! Enjoy the weekend's clips... as always, it's a freaking pleasure to serve you all with your non-stop dose of mojo-tainment! Signed, a very grateful Mr X
+TheSlyNinja First of all, Watchmojo is trying to be very definitive with their videos in case there is somebody who might want to see the smallest of details. Secondly, even if they seem to be coming up with unnecessary videos, they are only doing that because of the people that are suggesting those videos, so it's the fans' ideas, not entirely their own ideas
Glenn fry did force Randy to sing take it to the limit as their last song of the evening. The 2nd Encore. The 3rd Encore was at the motel. That's why Randy had to quit. Glen was always on his case. Take it to the limit by the way was their best song. It could be the best song of all time song by Randy.
Lets all be honest here. Eagles have way to many hits for just a top 10 list. I say do a top 20. For the songs like victim of love, Those Shoes, Dulin Dalton ect
I Can't Tell You Why was one of my favorite songs by the Eagles and the only Eagles song I heard played on R&B stations when I was a kid. Sorry to see it didn't make honorable mention. Didn't find out about Hotel California until I was an adult listening to Soft Rock stations but I loved it the first time I heard it. So I agree that is definitely their #1 song.
Saw them in concert when I was 16 in San Diego, I'm almost 61 now. It was a great concert, will never forget that great day. I'm a huge fan of the Eagles!
Without a doubt, the greatest American rock and roll group...one hit sing after another..how do you pick a favorite? The list goes on and on.. they are the best concerts I have seen....
Best of my Love. When Randy’s nightingale voice sings in chorus “Sweet Darling” always makes my heart skip a beat, since I was a toddler! Rest in Eternal Peace, Sweet Darling 🙏🏼🕊️❤️
Eagles were just beaming with talent in all of their lineups. It's amazing the body of work they were able to achieve throughout their careers. Fantastic music, great writing and awesome performers in a class of their own.
The Eagles have too many great songs, including those forgotten ones: "Victim of Love" "Outlaw Man" "Already Gone" (it's been mentioned at some point tho) "I Can't Tell You Why" (how could you forget this one??) "Best of My Love" "In the City" "Those Shoes"
Ron Sharer The Long Run is a pretty underrated album imo. It wasn't made in the best conditions, and thus it had mixed reviews at the time of its release, but it has a lot of gems.
My ALL TIME favorite song is.........Take It To The Limit!!!!! For some reason, it brings me to tears. Maybe it's the way Randy sings it, I'm not sure. But to me it's the best song from them
Leaving work as weekend admitting clerk, one Sunday was stuck in a snowstorm in the hospital parking lot. Heard this song for the first time on my car radio. Loved it that first time and every time since.
Traveling for work, once went 100 miles out my way, just so I could " stand on a corner in Winslow Arizona"❤, and at 3am driving thru endless empty stretch between NM, and West Tx, Hotel California came on❤Started singing , Windows down, nobody else on the road, belting it out with the record...flashing blue lights.😞Speeding ticket ! No, sir not drinking, just singing to " Hotel California!" , well , ok then, keep it under 70! That's the power of the EAGLES!❤😇❤😇❤
"RIP, Glenn....?" OK, but RIP also to great recordings by real musicians /songwriters who put in thousands of hours to get there (with no 'cheese-food' in sight). A few years ago, a young guy on some music forum said.... "Hey, everybody.....please check this out. Yesterday I played one of my dad's old Eagles albums, and the whole thing is SO GREAT.....EVERY SONG !!" Well, no shit, son. That's the way it used to be, before..........(well, you know......)
When you think of why this is true America, think it was the blend of Henley (Texas country) and Frey (Detroit Mo Town) which became the California sound! Think of that! Amazing!
I will check that out. I wonder why did he not sing more in the band, his voice was amazing. I know he was the kind of guy (really, kid or young man) that did not like to take the lead and preferred to hang back and let others have the spotlight.
EAGLES, ARE ESP. MY BAND FOR--WAS IN MY 20'S AND STILL IS AS I APPROACH 70. EVERY SONG SO GREAT THAT IT STANDS ON IT'S ON....I HAVE A PIC OF ME YOUNG HEARING "I LIKE THE WAY THOSE SPARKLING EAR RINGS LAY AGAINST UR SKIN SO BROWN ". MY HEART IS SO HAPPY AS I LISTEN TO THEIR TOP SONGS AS I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THANKS GUYS FOR READING IF U DID! MY MIND AND HEART IS STILL BACK IN THEIR DAYS OF RACKING UP # ONES. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
One Of These Nights SHOULD be at the top IMO- The FEEL of that entire album is just SO cohesive, synchronous and symbiotic- and it makes me feel like ALL the current members at the time it was recorded were at the top of their games(their heads were all in the right place at that moment) and complimenting each others strengths as musicians/bandmates. This much 'individual' talent in one place has a 'shelf life' of, well, NOT very long LOL, yet this album feels to me, moreso as they BELONGED together and it translates into what I think is about as close to a 'flawless' album as it got. As if the band was there for a single reason... to make the BEST MUSIC possible for their audience to enjoy hearing. Just my 2 cents...
Essentially, I agree with your list, but there's a soft spot in my heart for "Peaceful Easy Feeling." One particularly magical night at Karaoke, when the room happened to be packed with professional singers and dancers (the Northwest Performing Arts Conference was in town), for some bizarre reason all these out of town Hot Shots (who had come in right after one of my songs and had never hear me sing) kept pestering the DJ to hear me sing (I wasn't due up again that night because it was getting close to closing time). She gave in. I was caught totally off guard and couldn't think of any song I thought I could do well enough for this elite crowd. All I could think of was "Peaceful Easy Feeling." The song brought the house down with a clap of thunder. I say "the song brought the house down" because there's no way what I did with it deserved anything like the response it got, but Daymn it felt good. Thank you Eagles.
TonyTheTigerBB yeah what pissed me off was Newsweek did a three or four page article and David Bowie when he died he was British was not that great not that many hits and hear one of the greatest bands in the world barely even a little tiny article about Glenn Frey piss me , they could’ve done a whole magazine cover about the Eagles A lot history there. No stupid democratic papers .
Take it to the Limit!!! The best, Randy was such a great singer, never got the credit he deserved. He seemed so humble, no ego- just a sweet and kind man.
Most people who don't have the album, don't recognize it as an Eagles song.......they know the song, but they can't mentally connect it with the band.....probably think it's Hall and Oates, or Ambrosia, or somebody like that.
@@TheBillyKmusic Did you ever get to see The Eagles live? I can tell you why this song deserves to be there. Timothy B. Schmidt is arguably the best singer in that band
Seen them twice, a LONG time ago.(before Schmidt joined). Regardless, it's a great song.....and as I said, there are people out there, that don't get the connection.
Eagles - My favorite American rock band along with Creedence Clearwater Revival. Top quality music! Even their lesser known tracks are amazing, except "The Disco Strangler" from The Long Run; I hate that song! It should be renamed "The Ear Strangler". I'm a bit dissapointed there were no honourable mentions of songs from On the Border album (1974). "Already Gone" and "The Best of My Love" is some of their greatest hits and finest tracks. Some extra honourable mentions: - "Nightingale" (Eagles) - "Tryin' " (Eagles) - "Doolin' Dalton" (Desperado) - "Already Gone" (On the Border) - "Is It True?" (On the Border) - "The Best of My Love" (On the Border) - "Visions" (One of These Nights) - "After the Thrill Is Gone" (One of the These Nights) - "Try and Love Again" (Hotel California) - "The Last Resort" (Hotel California) - "I Can't Tell You Why" (The Long Run) - "Love Will Keep Us Alive" (Hell Freezes Over) - "Learn to Be Still" (Hell Freezes Over) - "How Long" (Long Road Out of Eden) - "Waiting in the Weeds" (Long Road Out of Eden) - "Somebody" (Long Road Out of Eden) - "It's Your World Now" (Long Road Out of Eden) Personal Top 3: 3) Take It Easy 2) Try and Love Again 1) Already Gone
"I can't tell you why" was a favorite featuring bass player Timothy and covered later by Vince Gill on a tribute album. The guitar solo is amazing by itself not to mention Timothy high notes and vocal range. Surprised not on here! Also "Best of my love" big hit topped the charts.
There is no doubt that The Eagles is my absolute favorite band. Admittedly part of that has to do with original band member, and bassist Randy Meisner. Randy is my age and was born and raised 6 miles from where I lived in Western Nebraska. I never knew him personally, but frequently would go to listen to his very popular regional band, The Dynamics. I don’t know why Randy left the Eagles at what I thought was the peak of their success, but he returned home to Mitchell NE, and the farming life. Whatever you might say, Randy Meisner has talent.
What about "I Can't Tell You Why". Love that song and it has one of the best guitar solo's of all time. Don Felder! great guitar player. Rest in peace Glen Frey thank you for so many great songs.
'I can't tell you why' needs to definitely be featured in the Top 10 Eagles numbers. I would personally place it at number 2 or 3 of their Top 10, after 'New Kid in Town' at No 1 and 'Hotel California' at No 2 maybe. 'I can't tell you why' is a classic and it's a superb and great rendition by Timothy B Schmit and proves he is a fabulous singer.
