I have pectus and in the military, and noticed how much better i looked and felt (felt, most important), after having to go through training that required me to stand up straight. 3 meals a day, after each meal, we were required to max out on pull ups after every meal before going back into formation to march around in military posture, straight up SHOULDERS BACK. started out barely able to do a few pull ups with a buddy help, 2 months later able to do 10+ on my own. For all those dealing with Pectus, listen to this dude. 99.9 of the battle is just getting into tip-top shape, and once you're there, you'll forget you even had it. you'd think chest chest chest, of course. but i recommend all forms of pull-ups to see the fastest results. posture is our #1 enemy. we have to fix that first if we want to start feeling better.
@@JDH___ I have a mild case, and never officially diagnosed with it. And tbh, I wasn’t even thinking about it being something that would hold me back from joining. While going through processing, the doctor did notice it and screened me for it. Basically if you’re healthy, can do all the exercises they ask you to do during that initial screening, your PE doesn’t affect your abilities, you should be good. But if you’re unhealthy, struggling with the exercises, looking like you’re out of breath, have two left feet, AND you have PE then yes it could be something they could consider to say no to you. Hope that makes sense.
@@therealrickytan this actually gives me hope dude, I was scared I wasn’t going to be able to join the navy. at least I have a good chance now, thanks man.
@@JDH___ there is no super secret profile scanner on you, they only know what you tell them, or what you can prove on paper. I'm sure your eventual recruiter will be sure to tell you. and if you're planning on joining the Navy, do some research on what job (rate) you are interested in advance, and stick to it. After you complete your ASVAB, MEPs will give you a list of rates you're qualified for based on your score. One thing they will not tell you, is that if you dont like what is currently available, you do not have to sign up that day. you can come back another day if you so choose. They will try to push you if they see you are hesitant, "'cmon just pick one, you already made it this far!"
Bro I have pretty severe pectus excavatum and I literally had absolutely no idea that there was a certain exercises that I could do in order to work on it. I always thought that surgery was the only way around it and I used to think that it would probably have to break and reset my sternum bone. I have always been incredibly embarrassed to take my shirt off for any reason and that really takes a toll on a guy.... Thank you so much though for your content, I'm going to start working on this immediately.
Hey Riley, great set of exercises. I follow you since 2016 and I am sending this message to say thank you. I have been to many doctors and heard many times that exercise could not solve pectus after being 18 years old. Today I see that they were completely wrong and you are the best proof. Your videos motivated me towards a healthier life style and with no surgery. Keep up the good work! Will always do my best to support your channel. Best, Lucas
Dude! Kudos on your journey and physique, awesome man! I've assymetrical pectus and it had a major impact on my confidence growing up, took me years to finally notice a difference through exercise, stretching and posture work. Coming across your channel now I can see I've been on the right track. I'm 40 now and still have that bit of self-conscious monkey on my back with it, but it's a million times better than when I was young. This channel and your work is FANTASTIC. Just reading the comments and hearing others with the same condition is actually comforting. Back before social media and the Internet etc, there was nothing like this sort of awareness and support out there for us PE dudes/dudettes. So bravo on your work man, it's inspiring and a shining light for some of the younger viewers I'm sure. Cheers 💪🏻
Totally agree with all these. I would also add RUNNING. Every other day at least 5k. Simple one but has delivered me the biggest improvement on my pectus to date. Edit : running with good posture, the posture is the key, it builds the areas that need to strengthen your posture. Also good for our lungs.
Hi! Unfortunately I haven't access to a gym but home I have some dumbbells and a adjustable bench. Maybe can you make a video like this later about what the best exercises with only dumbbells? Thanks a lot! 👍
I normally program anywhere from 3-5 sets & 6-25 reps. It depends on the client, the exercise & the training phase. Also normally RPE from 7-10. Again it depends.
I’m a female and I don’t suffer from pectus excavatum. But I just want to say to all (straight?) guys that honestly, it’s not a big deal to me (and hopefully to most females). I’m saying it because some guys would feel embarrassed to show it to their woman or admit that they suffer from it but as a female I can tell I 100% don’t care about it. I’ve been in a relationship with a man who suffers from it and if there’s anything about his appearance that bothers me, it’s his beer belly and not his sunken chest. 🤷🏼♀️
@@rockygaming3561 you can improve it. The extent and options depend on the severity. Book a strategy call with me at fixpectus.com for personalised advice
from my research: pectus people also have kyphosis or lumbar lordosis, to solve all these problem, we have to build a strong shortened back muscle and oblique muscles to maintain strong expanded chest, a strong spinal erectus muscle and psoas muscle for a strong upright posture , these all muscles groups are interdependent, if one is weak, that result in weakness of other muscle group , especially worsen pectus .
Thank you so much for the video. I have a question regarding this condition, does your sternum ever crack/pop? I gets tons of them and I’m not sure if it’s common with this condition.
It is a medical device so I recommend going through your doctor & medical system. If that is an issue then pectus healing are the best online provider and you can buy one from them at www.pectushealing.com and my code 'pectuspt' will save you some money.
