The best moments of potbelly fighters that surprised both the audience and their opponents with body positive fighting skills. Text: Oleg Volodin Video editing: Ilia Smertin Voice: Timothy Kerby
To all the comments about Fedor. We are from Russia, that's why there are some mistakes in this video with the pronunciation. We've noted the mistakes you all mentioned. Next time we'll check everything twice! But as for Fedor's name, it's pronounced the Russian language way. Ok, we got it, people are used to hear the English version of it (with a wrong word stress etc.). From now on we'll stick to an English version of Russian names. Thanks for the feedback!
lol why, if fedor is pronounced that way in russian/ukraine its how it should be pronounced everywhere. fucking americans. they try to pronounce mexican names the right way because of racism claims if theyre not but fuck with german and russian names all the time because no one cares there
So true. I remember Phil Baroni commentating on one of Cabbage's fights and he was saying too much muscle is more tiring than having too much fat, he was right as well, remember Bob Sapp in K1 where he'd have to take a rest half way through rounds he was gassing so bad.
@@Niqua10023 you can be the world's greatest mathematician but be a terrible accountant. You can be buffest, most cut dude on the planet and suck ass at fighting.
Chris Barnett is terrifying. That hefty and he's pulling off cartwheels and roundhouse kicks. No matter how slow that kick is, even if blocked it's doing you in
Agreed. The bean was insanely fast for his size. I think his quick rush forward did just as much to stop his opponents than that ridiculously overpowering right hand
After seeing this, i finally understand why he woudn't go full attack on Knoxville in jackass, despite Knoxville asked for it :p, 'is butterbean ok?' that was gold!
Butterbean is also the sweetest human being with a wonderful smile and warm personality. Seeing him flip that switch and knock someone into another reality is always mind blowing.
@@jaimhaas5170 Hi…. I’m sorry, I can’t remember exactly. I drive a Truck all over the US so it’s a mush in my memory. But Tennessee rings a Bell. It’s a Huge open and covered Flea Market.
@@jaimhaas5170Esch owns a booth at the Great Smokies Flea Market in Sevierville Tennessee. Not sure what booth number, but you'll see him for sure at the front door, although he's not there on every weekend days. I work at the flea market there and see him occasionally. He's an amazing fellow, and its always odd and delightful to see someone from TV to own a booth where you work 😅 he does autographs for people and sells merchandise at the flea market
Chris Barnett is scary. Having such a body properly transfering all of its momentum into a spinning kick might possibly be the most devastating strike a human can realistically deliver.
Can't believe that didn't put him out cold. It's a shame that Barnett only recently entered the UFC at an advanced age. I hope to see him in at least a couple more crazy fights before he retires.
Butter bean and Big Country will always have a special place in my artery clogged heart. Did karate and small circle jujitsu. Was grappling one day with one of the better instructors, he laughed one day and told a few of the other black belts, “ He looks flabby, but when you push in on that soft covering there ain’t nothing but stone underneath” best compliment I ever got.
Stay proud and happy big fella. F what anyone else says, got a best mate I grew up with who is 260+ pounds and moves like he's a 165er. Love him to death and is strong as hell hahaha. Big up my g
Happened to me. I took a bout with a 265lb fighter while at 215lb, because he had no other options for matchups. I was in bodybuilding shape, he was far from it, and I was the favorite. He shattered my orbital in the 2nd round. I’ve replayed that loss in my head for a decade.
@@blklightning21 I took an Openweight because I thought I was unbeatable, it got me the headliner, and I was asked to. I was stronger with better cardio. So, Pride & Overconfidence, I guess. If I didn’t need a titanium plate surgically installed, I think I could’ve retrained and won the rematch. Might just be the mindset though. In the years following, that haunting loss made me much more technical and polished. Damage done, however.
Awesome video. Roy "Big Country" Nelson has always been a favorite of mine. That right hand was devastating. Chris Barnett and Eric "Butterbean" Esch were outstanding. These guys are chubby but dangerous.
@@hybrid.catastrophic.impact6071 - I guess you think you can do better. I'll bet Roy Nelson destroys you wise guy. The Impact from the Power of his fists will be Catastrophic for you. Pun intended.
I used to work with a guy (different dept than me) who loaded cookers by hand into trailers 8 hours a day days a week. Beats several 30 second reps in a gym all day long....he was a beast....and fat.
It shows he wanted to win but he didn't want to permanently hurt anyone, shows that he has some class and respects his opponents.thats a real man there!!
Remember even though these guys carry excess fat, these guys are still extremely well conditioned and powerful, they are professional fighters despite their excess fat
There's also the issue of lower body fat percentages being really bad in terms of how they affect strength and endurance. The guy who is shredded is not going to be able to function optimally at that type of body composition without being on gear. Provided that they make weight, the guy who has more body fat at weigh in also most likely won't be in the process of recovering from an intense bout of dehydration, like a lot of fighters do to try and ensure that they're as big as possible without being disqualified.
My high school wrestling teammate, Mike Russow, didn’t start fighting until his mid 30’s. I was there that night. Mike got his forearm broken in the first round and couldn’t use his wrestling. Got his jaw broken in the 2nd. Landed his shot in the 3rd. We all put at least a hundred on him as he went off at 5-1 underdog odds. We had a hell of a time later that night spending our winnings in Vegas. Don’t let the physique fool you, dude was crazy strong and 2 to 3 moves ahead in his head. I wish he’d of started earlier in the fight game.
That's awesome. Me and my friends are watching that fight live and I recognized in the second round that Mike was going to pull off the upset. None of my friends believed me and then bam he knocks the dude out. Hope he's doing well now.
3:32 ... Much respect for him quickly seeing that his opponent was knocked out and not taking the opportunity to land several "free" blows. Not a lot of people would do that, especially when the stakes are so high. Failing to take an opportunity like that can cost a fighter the match... but he did it anyways. (so, I gotta recognize that).
Thank you for including Tank Abbott! The man rarely gets the recognition he deserves and is rarely included in MMA knockout reels. He's probably in the top 3 of hardest punchers in UFC history.
Tank was a D1 wrestler who could put up 600 pounds on the bench press. He doesn't get anywhere near the recognition he deserves. He was one of the fighters routinely avoided by Gracie.
@@davesampson158 if you look up some of the interviews where he talks about the first UFC's the decks were really stacked for the Gracie's they ran the whole thing. They avoided guys like him that had wrestling backgrounds.
@@Shastavalleyoutdoorsman yes, I'm aware that the Gracie's ran the promotion and that they avoided certain grapplers. I just didn't think Tank was one of them, especially after Royce submitted Severn. Personally, I don't think Royce would've had the success he had if it wasn't for his gi. Trying to grab ahold of him seemed difficult as he was buried in clothing and those damn sleeves were weapons for choking. I guess that's the jiu-jitsu way.
@@michaelschrute2346 Mine was pretty tough; 6'1 soft spoken and level-headed. He never raised his voice put just people on notice in private real quick, and he never made a scene. He knocked the fuck out of some big tough guys, and some wiry tough guys, but only when he had to. He was an iron worker. I'm not LOL 🤣
Larry Allen, probably the most dominant offensive lineman of all time was 6'3 325lbs. He benched 700 lbs, and benched 225 43 times. Despite his size, he ran a 4.85 40 yard dash. Yet he had a belly. I never saw Roy Nelson gas out in a fight either. Big guys can be sneaky like that.
Because pure muscles require a lot of oxygen. There's couple of exceptions like Kamaru Usman, Alistair Overeem, Islam Makhachev, Zhang Weili, Paulo Costa
@@russelljones2281 Something else as well, although muscle weighs more by volume, big tubby folks still have to carry around a substantial amount of weight 24/7. This cannot be done without strength. Which can easily be overlooked when someone doesn't look like they were chiseled out of marble.
my jodo coach was called franz. he was realy short and had a massive beer belly, but damn that guy was athletic :D when he got hold of you he just used his low center point to his advantage and planted you in the mat
He fighted too one of the best heavy japan fighter several times, Yamashita. JCC learnt me the most important in life, long life to all good martial coaches !!
Esch has a secret weapon. His body forces people right into his kill zone, but it doesn't look like they are. He has a chest the same size as the body builder types, but it looks smaller proportionally. Those seemingly quick jabs aren't really jabs, they are full power hooks. If you remove 3 inches of stomach, shoulder, and bicep bulk, you see the range of movement he actually has is MUCH greater.
Back in the day I sat ringside at the Texas Golden Gloves Championship rounds. In the heavyweight division, a stay puffed marshmallow, no body definition guy that was so white, he glowed. He was like a real life ghost. His opponent who was local looked like a movie star Hercules. He had a large cheering section vs Casper's half dozen. When they shook hands at center ring, you could see the huge difference in size and shape. The bell rung and they met again at center. Within a nano second the ghost threw a roundhouse that came so quick and so hard, it nearly knocked Hercules's head off. He was out like a light before even hitting the canvas.
How can you even defend against something with that much speed and power? Your dodge game gotta be unreal to evade that, coz if you try and block it, hello hairline fracture!
Awesome video! Just wish it would’ve included Alexander Emelianenko’s knockout against Clay Thompson. The difference’s in their demeanors was hilarious! Still my favorite knockout of all time!
This is one of the most entertaining underdog videos I’ve ever seen. Man, Roy Nelson….. Looking like he just got off work to fight as a hobby is the Rocky of MMA to me. Tank Abbott looks like him and Roy Nelson worked at the same job. Butterbean is the American dream. Those three makes this video so great to me. Great job on the content.
To be fully fair - Ruth played when "just being naturally good" was more valuable than almost any amount of training, because the training was so much less sophisticated. Which doesn't take anything away from Ruth, but he just had the technique down.
Man. Seeing all those really old fights and how young everyone looks. Just mind blowing. Im 32. I feel like im in the future now. The old videos seem like what life should still be like. Its a wierd feeling
True but JDS is the fat guy destroyer he beat Mark Hunt, Derrick Lewis, Tai Tuivasa, Roy Nelson, Ben Rothwell, Blagoy … he literally won every single fight he’s had with a fat guy lol
People always forget, just because someone has higher body fat that doesn't mean they have less muscle or are less strong compared to those who are leaner. In fact, they usually have more muscle and strength.
Thats exactly why weight classes exist. You can pack more muscle and performance per pound in when you dont have the fat. Sure you can be fat and a dangerous fighter. But a muscled fighter of the same weight...will be more dangerous.
15 years ago i met the first primitive UFC versions, and TANK ABBOT, what a legend!! He almost always won on that cages without ANY kind of rules or whatsoever
This list is spot on correct. I've been watching ufc for 20 years. Love this list. Dead on accurate. Glad you gave Barnett a mook and yes Nelson is GOAT
Roy Big Country Nelsons right hand was a big fight finisher. The power in that guys fists were incredible. And Butterbean was a knockout legend too. These 2 are my ultimate favourites.
