YAY! so many overlapping picks in my video too!!!! red white and royal blue was my top book of the year (although my ugly cry was in my bedroom instead of the kitchen haha)
It’s nice to see more genres than ya on your favourites list this year compared to what would of been on it when I first started watching you like 6/7 years ago i feel like you’ve helped mature my book taste along side your own, I turned 20 last year and I want to start reading a wider array of books so it always helps when people I admire recommend books I myself wouldn’t pay attention too :)
i love how you explain the plot/synopsis of books.. now i'm definitely interested in Maybe In Another Life, Unhoneymooners, The Cruel Prince, Scythe, & Red,White&Royal Blue..
If you liked Good Omens, you should seriously consider reading Douglas Adams Hitchhikers Guide trilogy. I read somewhere that Gaiman writing a book about Douglas Adams somewhat inspired his idea for Good Omens. The commedy style is very similar.
I’ve read Good Omens and The Toll. Good Omens is so hilarious and original and The Toll was the perfect and unexpected conclusion to one of the best, in my opinion, dystopian series ever written.
I finished reading Good Omens last week and immediately started watching the TV show, which is literally a perfect and faithful adaptation! Loved the story and characters and the humor so much! I am now Aziraphale x Crowley trash lmao
I’ve tried so hard to enjoy Holly Black’s writing and I just can’t. That along with Cassandra Clare and Sarah J Maas. I really wish I could enjoy the series that everyone is loving
the toll has 700 pages??? definitely didn't feel like that for me. although the first half of the toll was AMAZING, the way the storylines connected was done so well, i felt a little bit disappointed as we were approaching the end. it just felt off to me. but i have to say that thunderhead is probably the best ya fantasy/sci fi book i've read in years.
Books she mentions: 0:40 Summer of Salt by Katrina Leno 2:08 Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid 4:15 The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren 5:41 Supernova by Marissa Meyer 6:54 Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett 8:55 The Folk of the Air Trilogy by Holly Black 10:43 The Toll by Neal Shusterman 14:37 Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell 16:15 Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston 18:12 This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Montar and Max Gladstone
I didn't read at all in 2019, heaps of books you listed in this video sound super interesting, you're great at selling a books plot imo. Great video :)
I’ve watched multiple reviews of “scythe” but your description and review was the special one that made me want to read it and actually add it to my book wishlist 💕
Good Omens is AMAZING! The book the show and I am TRYING to find where I can listen to the radio show because I've heard excellent things about it....but yeah. I'm obsessed.
soooo....I won the bet. 😉 also your taste is flawless!!! Summer of Salt, RWARB, Folk of Air and the Unhoneymooners are all on my list too!! Yay!!! And I'm so glad you loved The Unhoneymooners its SO FREAKING GOOD!!!
"This book won't be for everyone. It's hard sci-fi but also a love story with very poetic language-" OKAY I'M SOLD oh wait- "There are all these different timelines-" YUP GOING TO THE LIBRARY RIGHT NOW BYE.
Standing in the kitchen, sobbing while stirring pasta because I’m reading while cooking is a weekly event for me. I feel so completely understood in this moment.
I second This is How You Lose the Time War and Red White and Royal Blue (which I also read and reread in 2019!). The others are all new for me, though, so am looking forward to get stuck in!
Yay I love Good Omens! I haven't watched much of the series yet but I enjoy the book a lot. I also love Neal Shusterman's work. I need to finish the Arc of the Scythe series because I've only read the first two books but I can't wait to get to the Toll in 2020. I also can't wait to read This is How You Lose the Time War. It sounds like it'll work for me.
This Is How You Lose the Time War is going to the top of my TBR. Hard sci-fi, plus lovely ladies in love... that's like all my favorite boxes and it's ticking them hard. Also, I need to go back and finally finish the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. I loved the first two books, but got sidelined by something while reading the third and never got back to it. But talk about imaginative. The books were stunning. Thanks for the reminder!
i love jude and cardan because cardan starts off as an asshole and then we get to see that he's basically a confused and sad child who's absolutely WHIPPED for jude, and jude is an unbreakable, hard-headed, stubborn girl who refuses to back down, and she essentially holds all their power in their relationship. i love it. their dynamic was really fun to read!
Red, White & Royal Blue was my absolute fave this year! I still have to get around to picking up my Good Omens book, its been sitting on my shelf staring at me judging that I've been reading other books
Love seeing what made everyone's top list for 2019. Didn't have any books in common, but have a ton of recommendations now ;) The Toll trilogy sounds great!
So RWRB was my absolute favourite this year, but that might be bc I didn’t read your favourite and I absolutely need to right now 😍😍 f/f sci fi awesomeness sounds like it would tick all of my boxes 😍😍 also sidenote; I absolutely love how you arranged all your cute gay books into a rainbow 😍🏳️🌈 might steal that idea for my own shelves :D
'Maybe in Another Life' reminds me of an old Gwyneth Paltrow movie from 1998, called Sliding Doors. It's one of my faves, so it's cool to find that there's a book like that!
I knew it was gonna be This is How You Loose the Time War! I've been wanting that book so badly since I've heard you talk about it on twitter. I'm also so happy that you've discovered Neil Shusterman. He's been my favourite author since I read Unwind so many years ago. Arc of Scythe was amazing and he really nailed the ending. I didn't read too much this year but agree on how having romance just is what really seares a story into your heart. I'm the same way which why this year I lived for Anne an with E which is a TV show. Rivals to lovers found family.strong women flawed characters beautiful and uplifting. I want more of all of that in my life. You make me what to read all these books so badly. And I hope 2020 brings us both more stories to fall in love with!
I picked up "This is how you lose the time war" right after watching this video and subsequently finished it in less than two days. Definitely a new favorite of mine. Thanks for the recommendation!
