I would say that the thin blue line, father ted and the entire black adder series, aswell as the Mitchell and Webb look, aswell as the Henry Enfield series, aswell as the a bit of fry and lauriel are also pretty good. The scene "Judge me not" is IMO one of the best ones.

Fawlty Towers was, in my estimation, the most consistently hilarious show I've ever seen. However, it does not come off well in these short clips. In order to truly appreciate the humor, you have to be familiar with the characters. Only 12 episodes of the show were ever produced, so it is well worth the effort to seek them out and watch the entire series. Believe me, you'll be glad you did"|!

It's very funny. But it doesn't seem historically accurate. I googled the subject and found that Hitler took over two other countries and a couple of other regions before invading Poland, but I guess those don't count because the other countries surrendered (even though one had an army of one million men)? Is it an act of war if one side gives up without a shot? If yes, I suggest WW2 started in 1938, and perhaps even in 1936. Hey, it's the internet, so I'm entitled to my opinion.
@TheNameOfJesus
@TheNameOfJesus 5 лет назад
@@mattsmith1518 I think it was 9 days after. But it sounds like you are agreeing with my crazy proposition that invading a country with a massive army isn't an act of war if the smaller army doesn't fight back. I disagree with you. I think if you invade with overwhelming force and aren't wanted there it is an act of war. But this is just my opinion.
@TheNameOfJesus
@TheNameOfJesus 5 лет назад
@@mattsmith1518 That's an argument. But what would you say if one side called it a war but the other side didn't? For example, in the Korean conflict, North Korea called it a war, but the United States called it a Police Action. As wikipedia says, "In the US, the war was initially described by President Harry S Truman as a "police action" as the United States never formally declared war on its opponents and the operation was conducted under the auspices of the United Nations." So who gets to decide if something is a "war"? The leaders at the time? Or historians? I would say historians are less biased and more accurate. And I would say that historians should say WW2 really started in 1938 when Hitler started invading countries that didn't want to be invaded.
@TheNameOfJesus
@TheNameOfJesus 5 лет назад
@@mattsmith1518 Ok, I'll stop. I guess I could have been a little nicer, (sorry) but as arguments go it was quite friendly between us. Most discussions on the internet are very uncivil. We did okay. We used logic more than emotions. I wish you well, and once again sorry if I came across as argumentative.

I think the best moment in the Hotel Inspectors episode is when they throw out the moustached guy in quite the rough manner, just when three other people come into the hotel. Then, Basil greets them, asking if he can help, grinning happily for a moment, just before realising, that they are the actual inspectors and the scene ends with a frozen frame of him jumping back, screaming in terror. That was funny as hell.

this must have been a really tough list, since Fawlty Towers is absolute comic perfection. However, I have to speak up for two bits that were left off the list, which are two of the most hilarious bits of dialogue and exchange I think ever written in comedy. First is the scene where Basil is attempting to tell Manuel that "he knows nothing" about the horse bet he made in the episode "Communication Problems" (mentioned in this video as the deaf guest). The exchange of trying to explain to Manuel that he shouldn't say anything about the horse is hilarious. It's on youtube, search "fawlty towers i know nothing". Second is when the burglar alarm goes off in the germans episode, and basil has to explain to guests, who all enter the lobby at different points in the conversation, that the fire drill hasn't started yet. one of his classic lines...."i don't know why we bother, we should let you all BURN!" HAHAHA.

However this deserves to be watched on context, not in small clips. People just wouldnt understand the comedy without context. And this type of comedy is all about context. My favorite episode, is when the Doctor dies over night, and they try to hide the body from the other hotel Guests. The "NOT mention the war!!" scenes is just briliant. I specifically asked for a sea view in my written confirmation, so please make sure I have it. Que? What? Que? K? Si. C? "KC"? "KC"? What are you trying to say? No, no, no, no. Que: What. K-watt? Si.Que what. C. K. Watt? Yes! Who is C.K. Watt? Que? Is he the manager, Mr. Watt? Manaher! He is? Ah, Mr. Fawlty! What? Fawlty! What are you talking about, you silly little man? What is going on here? I ask him for my room, and he tells me the manager's a Mr. Watt, aged 40. No.No, no. Faw-lty. "Faulty"? What's wrong with him? It's all right, Mrs. Richards. He's from Barcelona. The manager's from Barcelona? No, no, no. He's from Swanage......

It's difficult and unfair to even attempt to make a "top moments" compilation because this entire show is so, so brilliant! The entire format was made to be flawlessly funny; they spent weeks writing episodes and only made a total of 12 in order to not compromise the quality. My "top moments" compilation would just be a marathon of all 12 episodes! haha

What I found amazing is that there was four years between season 1 and season 2. John and Connie had been going through a divorce and only realized that they could do a second season because , even though they had divorced, could still write great material together. John is not backward in coming forward about the fact that Connie was brilliant at writing comedy.

@@Scottie_S What I find amazing is that Connie Booth is an American, she wrote at least 50% of the shows, probably 60%, and people still call it "British Comedy." I would call it American comedy at its best.

Basil and the Rat, The Germans, The Kipper and The Corpse, Communication Problems and Gourmet Night are in my opinion the best episodes of this one of a kind series. That improvised attack on his car with a tree branch amongst other situations are just too good.

My favorite scene occurs in "The Psychiatrist" when the young, buxom girl comes to stay. Basil, while showing the girl her room, discovers the bathroom light bulb is not working. He reaches around to try the light switch, which is just outside the bathroom door. The girl happens to be standing where the light switch is located, doing some stretches after a long trip. As Basil reaches around for the switch, he accidentally finds himself fondling the girls breast. Of course Sybil walks in at the worst possible moment!

My 3 favourite moments in Fawlty Towers in ascending order (as if anyone cares) are: 1. The Major talking to the moose head. In The Germans 2. Basil pretending to speak and then shouting into Mrs Richards' hearing aid, finishing with "Is this a piece of you're brain". In Communication Problems 3. Basil not being able to say Lionel Twitchen's name to Colonel Hall (Allan Cuthbertson). In Gourmet Night

Communication Problems is my favorite. So much win in this episode. "i want to see the manager." "I am the owner." "I want to see the manager" "I am the manager aswell." "Oh you are Watt." "i´ve wanted a room with a view." "What did you expect from a Torquay Hotel room? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The hangin gardens of Babylon? Herds of Wildebeests sweeping majestically?" "I want to see the sea" "Oh you can see the sea. It´s there between the land and the sky."

Mrs Richards is the second best episode after the germans, the whole episode is hilarious. I asked for a room with a view, you have a view. We'll its not good enough. That is Torquay madam, can I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window, the hanging gardens of Babylon, Kracitow erupting, herds of wilderbeasts sweeping majesticly? I expect to see the sea, you can see the sea its over there between the land and the sky!! ha ha. Is this a piece of your brain?? This is mine!! ha ha, that defo the 2nd best episode.
