If new civs from North or South America were added, what would be some of the most fun and interesting bonuses we could give to their Eagle Warriors? #aoe2
Nice video. How about a top 10 future new unique units next Some examples: - Camel Gunpowder units with an attack bonus vs other gunpowder units - Archer units with the ability to tear armor of units with each shot - Elephant Gunpowder units with a high cost, high HP/attack being very pop efficient - Light cavalry units that takes 0.5 pop
For the regional skin issue I think there's not much of a problem. Cougars for Inca/South America, coyotes for Maya/non Mexica Central American (as Mayan nobility was known to wear their skins) and any more to the north a more culturally tasteful version of the Cherokee warrior already in the game would do as long as it gets a spear. Then Camel gunpowder would be a Zamburak. To be done correctly they should work like with a Mount/dismount mechanic like the Ratha and Trebuchet: - Mounted mode: like a Conquistador on a camel but with an excruciating long attack delay and low attack speed in exchange of extra range and accuracy and mild bonuses against cavalry, rams, elephants and gunpowder. This specifically means they should not get bonus against camels for reasons explained further down. In mounted mode they would have Unique Unit, Camel, Gunpowder and Cavalry Archer armour. - Dismounted mode: further range ( think matching Longbows), being stuck in place (like a trebuchet) and bonus damage against buildings are the must haves. Preferably minimum range of 1. From there we could go wild with Unique techs. Maybe adding 1 or two extra projectiles dealing 2 fixed damage +3/5 against cavalry. Maybe further bonuses against fortifications. They could gain a charged attack equivalent to a pike or halb strike while dismounted to further repell cavalry*. On dismounted mode they would have Unique Unit, Infantry, Spearmen*, Heavy Siege and Gunpowder. Now since it would not make sense for them to retain the Camel armour type while Dismounted anyway, three choices have been made playing into this. Camels receive no bonus damage from them (at least while mounted) because they themselves can only deal bonus damage to them while mounted (which does give a little bit of room for strategy there). They get infantry armour type while dismounted to cement that archers are the way to go against them. The * is there to tie all together with the Spearmen armour class. Archers and skirms have bonus damage against infantry and spears so they'd be a soft counter to Zamburak, while the Unique Tech giving them the charge attack (and maybe 1 additional projectile for Zamburak and Hand Cannoneers) would justify these seemingly unexpected armour class choices that could be visually reinforced by the unit model holding a spear with a lighting match tied while dismounted.
the barracks techs one sounds concerning specifically in Castle Age. And Eagles are already very good in Castle Age. The others I like very much, especially the gather food and return gold ones.
Hell yes, more american civ content! There's never enough for me. I've been thinking of a Mixtec civ for quite some time. One of their UTs could be "Stone Men" (mythological figures tied into their myth, they fought the Mixtec but also might be their ancestors according to some sources?), which would buff the eagles a little and replace their gold cost with reduced stone cost... This would obviously come with some kind of stone generating bonus (farms provide a trickle of stone? This could represent how they transformed the mountainous valleys of Oaxaca into massive lush terraces), but even then I'm not sure if the playerbase would be okay with units that cost stone. Feels really gimmicky without the very niche context. Another problem with the Mixtec is that they were the ones with super-strong priests. The Aztec monk bonus represents the cultures of Oaxaca much better than the Nahua of central Mexico...
Yeah, I'd love a few more American civs. Mixtecs would be interesting for sure, but I'd probably try to go for a more historical UT since paying stone for Eagles would be kind of awkward. Love the Nahuatl name BTW
I implemented the 0.5 range for both eagle line and spear line in my version of aoe2 I think more of it as a cool visual effect seeing rows of spear hitting the enemy actual testing made them eagles just do slightly better against melee units which I think is fine for the spear line it wasn't as impressive I mean sure you could get a choke point on something like black forest but the stats of the spear line makes them somewhat unable to hold the line for sometime I simply don't see a reason on why the age series doesn't utilize spear wielding soldiers having more range.
Doesn't really fit the role I perceive for the eagle, but I like the idea of an American Warrior-Priest or Shaman type unit - perhaps it could be different from the Armenian unit by converting but not healing.
Hey, just saying, you said that you dislike charge attack type stuff. Well, Im not into the charged attack, but how about a technology that gives Eagles a charge meter. When the eagle's charge meter is there, it throws a spear projectile before jumping into combat, dealing melee dmg...and around 5-6 range. How about that? The eagle's meter will only recharge when out of combat.
That's pretty cool, I like that a lot. BTW I don't necessarily dislike anything with a charge bar (except the Shrivamsha), I just think that the "Charge for extra attack" is overused between the Coustillier, Urumi, and Roman Unique Tech.
The Incas were more famous for their couriers, although the Mayas are definitely underrated for their impressive but lesser known road systems (Saq' Be'), so that could work.
I think we do need a civ from North America (north of the Aztecs). I'm not sure how it would work. Probably, Eagle Warriors wouldn't fit (or might actually fit better), and I don't know how much information there is about that part of america at that time to make a realistic feeling civilization, however.
Yeah, it would be cool, but there is definitely less information than one would want. My second next video will be looking at some of those possibilities though.
Tainos could be made as an American civilization with good navy since those natives lived in the isles of the Caribbean and some other bonuses that could fit
@@sergioramirezbelliard493 The Chimu would be much better as a naval native civ... Taino were cool, but the Chimu were sctually a part of a civilization and had cities and an empire.
Both can be made, 1 doesn't mean the other should not be done. Latest expansions are providing 2-3 civilizations so it could be focused in the Americas
The point of my intro is that there's no such thing as a limited number of civ slots, just practical constraints like time, design work, etc. The belief in limited civ slots has been around for a while on Reddit & the Forums, but there's never been good evidence for it.
