Apple didn't invent the graphical user interface. Xerox did, but they didn't release it to consumers as far as I'm concerned. Apple took the idea from Xerox and brought it to the public. They're the reason the GUI is so widely used today, but they didn't invent it.

Gresh854 No. I personally believe that Apple does what I call "Tech cooking". They take things that people have already created, throw it together, and ship it for $500 than it should be. I've always found it hard to do things with Apple products, because they really only boast having a good-looking screen. I could build a glorious PC for $2,000, whereas $2,000 would probably buy you a relatively useful Apple laptop.

I love apple. I never had any issue with anything I have brought or gotten as a gift. I got the first iMac back in 1999 when I was a little for games and then later the internet when I hit middle school, but it lasted from 99 to 2016. Even still have all my iPhones from the very first one all still work well. Even my mom still has her white MacBook laptop from 2009 and its still going strong while my dad seems to stay with PC and has gone through countless laptops and desktops over the years, but still has his iPhone 5 and the very first iPad still going.

#4 is completely wrong. While Apple popularized the GUI, Xerox was the first company to develop a device that used one. And the Macintosh wasn't even the first Apple computer to use a GUI. The Apple Lisa used a GUI and was released a year before the Macintosh 128K. And before the Lisa, the Xerox Star (1981) was the first commercial system to feature a GUI.

i love apple products, but i think my favourite thing about apple is the fact that when they update the OS (osx and ios) and products, they're obviously listening to what the customers are saying online. they've even incorporated things that people have had to jailbreak to do in past ios versions.

OS X is Linux based, not invented by apple, they are just charging you for an adaptation of a free operating system. IBM invented the first tablet. Prices are way too over-inflated for the hardware you get. Although I do like iTunes.

McMoney69 Apple didn't however Apple or should I say Steve Jobs managed to sell them to us. i.e. the Xerox PARC which was the first commercially available GUI out dating the Mac/Apple Lisa by 10 years. However it never went any where but the Mac did.

***** I will give you the Iphone, without that then other cell providers would have not pulled their own heads out of their asses to see the importance of a touchscreen. But nearly all the other items promoted or listed were just copy pastes of existing technology, that didn't "innovate" anything, they just looked cool to people who didn't know any better. Christ, they didn't even have the apple 1 on here. The computer Jobs built in his garage one at a time. And that is just not true about other companies, it's just not as varied or widespread, what about bluetooth? Biometrics? Voice recognition software? SLI bridging software? Apple would have you think they pull stuff like that down from the heavens.

batmanishere2093 uh there where several touch screen phones out before the iPhone. yes the touch screens at the time weren't very good but they where still around. not to mention the first android phone was in development long before the iPhone I am not saying the iPhone didn't help popularize the idea just saying it was already around and would have been a thing even without the iPhone.

Some say that the best technological rivalry is between Apple and Microsoft. Others say it's between Microsoft and Sony. Articuno Forever Sega had better consoles, they didn't sell because of Tonka's shitty marketing.. Also, Sonic is just overall better than Mario in every single way. he has a personality, his games are actually innovative and change every time when Mario just makes money off of people's nostalgia and little kids that don't know any better.

I would have put the graphical user interface at the top of the list. It was the introduction of the GUI that really opened up computers to the masses. Almost all digital devices use some form of GUI, whether it be the smart phone, tablet or computer. So, the introduction of the GUI is what made all of the other innovations that you listed possible.

Bought my first iPhone last year, an iPhone SE. It doesn't seem like much to many, but I can't tell enough people how happy I am to have it (I had a Windows phone! 😳) Especially for the price I paid for it new! 😃 Love my iPhone!

I remember back in 1984 when the first MacIntosh came out. I was at a bookstore on New York's Fifth Avenue (this was before The Apple Store existed) and came across this MacIntosh. It was also my first encounter with the mouse. I didn't know for sure what the mouse was for as I didn't know anything about personal computers and what they were used for.

+Nye Covington it's cheaper. Galaxy's cost the same as iPhones but you don't get the hard drive space. You have to buy an SD card. So technically they'd cost more.

One minor point of contention, but on the Original iMac, they USB was not intended to replace the floppy drive but rather SCSI interface. There vision at the time was that people could just use the internet to share files (via email or other file sharing methods). USB did allow for the introduction of USB flash/thumb drives which have largely replaced the floppy, but that was not why Apple switched to it.

I've been a windows user for as long as I can remember.. I recently switched to Mac in the past 6 months & I couldn't be any happier.. I also feel no need to debate over "who is better", I find it quite funny actually, everyone has opinions.. but when it comes to Apple VS Microsoft people start having aneurysm's.. Ahh... #1stWorldProblems smh

I love how everyone says that apple is copying. I mean, duh!? But what Apple does it makes it simplistic and easy to use. Android phones are battery sucking machines, even though they are customizable almost everything that is cool to add will kill your battery. Also, I would choose an Mac over a PC, PC is to complex for an everyday use and more of downloading games off Steam. PC is a great gaming system.

Who came first with a good, advanced, fingerprint sensor, yes, Apple with Touch ID. Who came first with a touchscreen, fast, advanced, internet, multi-tasking device, yes, Apple with iPhone 2G. Who came first with the advanced computers that would be used in home, yes, Apple with Macintosh. Is Apple copying from Microsoft and Samsung, my answer is no.

+Cameron The Actor without xerox there would be no mac os. without texas intruments there would be no firewire. without IBM there would be no iphone. without intel there would be no thunderbolt. mp3 players were around some time before the ipod. also didn't invent the laptop. apple did not invent mini display port. they just made a normal display port smaller so it would fit on the macbooks. if it wasn't for motorola then we wouldn't have the ipod dock. if it weren't for ubuntu then we wouldn't have the app store. if it weren't for many people and many companies apple wouldn't have inductive charging. apple copies designs form other companies and then patens them if they can and puts their own flavor in it.

I am a dedicated Android user for my phone, tablet, and laptop but I have never loved any product as much as my Gen 1 iPod. I never loved later versions quite as much and I still have it.
