That "jalopy" has a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
Its a Dodge Monaco.. speed limit when it was built was 70. It could do 140 all day long and not even break a sweat. My buddy had a 74 & at 100mph the motor was running about 2000 faster than idle.
"No Man's Land" (1987) - Charlie Sheen and DB Sweeney are car thieves, more specifically Porsche thieves. The chase scene with the 911 Turbo and the rival car thieves is epic.
Blues Brothers car, lol. I blew the 383 in my 1970 Cuda' at the drags - still won. Engine was a paperweight tho. I snagged a 440 Magnum engine, milled the heads, bored the walls, stroked the rods to 4.500" turning the engine into something a touch larger than a 535 cubic inch. The car was a runner for sure. I was clocked at 158 mph just going for beer once. I was just cruisin really, the car had more - 3:20 gears in the pumpkin that day. Back in the day we had to work at getting the numbers factory cars get today. But damn it was fun.
I was about to disown this list but then To Live and die in L.A. and the Road Warrior showed up...i got you. The Blues Brothers was filmed in 79..with 70's cars. It got a proper spot. The 1974 Dodge Monaco 440 Police Interceptor would actually do 135 mph with some room..like a couple of miles. What you seen was actual speed. It could get to 120 mph in a few blocks under the El..not bad for 4500 pounds and a 2.23:1 rear end
EXACTLY DUDE the DRIVER ! ..Ryan O'Neil was so cool in that movie and the chase that lasted most of the movie had me outa my seat for most of it ..this was Epic and perhaps the No 1 for also !
I know that some of the most outrageous stunts like the Bond movie required special equipment but I can't tell you how awesome it is that these stunts were performed with real cars driven by real people. I can't watch chase scenes in modern action movies because there is so much CGI
I'd be curious to see your list of the best chases from each decade. This formula works well since it's too hard to make a "top 10 of all time" list without EVERYONE's list being practically the same group of the most famous chases. They end up overlooking the lesser-known gems like some of the films in this video.
Beverly Hills Cop - the "cigarette truck police chase" opening - will always be my #1. They must've destroyed close to 100 cars in the first 5 minutes of the movie!
the guy from "The Junk Man" is H.B. Halicki... he was the main character in the original Gone in 60 Seconds from 1974. He drove a yellow car in a chase for both movies. He died in 1989 while filming the sequal to Gone in 60 Second...the sequal remains unfinished.
Wonder how many of these scenes would be filmable with modern rules/regulations when it comes to cinema in the United States.. Great list, very much enjoyed the video!
Blues Brothers Deserved #1 on this list simply on the fact that it actually included TWO epic chases but also because of the shear epic level of DAMAGE caused by the Police Themselves.
I'm gonna pick up the same 10 films but change the order as I like them 10. Back to the Future 9. Against All Odds 8. The Junkman 7. Beverly Hills Cop 6. Terminator 5. License to Kill 4. Cobra 3. To live and Die in LA 2. Road Warrior 1. The Blues Brothers (actually one of the best car chases in all movie history)
You forgot the chase, from the movie The Dead Pool, RC Car VS Dirty Harry. Might not be #1, But way better than many on here and definitely better, than Back to the Future's chase. Also as mentioned elsewhere, the bike/car chase from The Wraith. That was the only, decent legit chase in the movie, but pretty good
Yeah, they kinda forgot literally all of the other chase scenes from the Blues Brothers. I mean come on. The mall chase people! THE MALL CHASE, IN AN ACTUAL MALL. COME ON. The Blues Brothers should be #1. They have the mall scene, the Chicago chase scene, (a little extra one is where Elwood drives them both off one of those two-part bridges, and they actually land on the other side of the bridge!) The Blues Brothers had so many car chase scenes! There's so many more to talk about!
So... we're just gonna over anything from "The Wraith?" How about an honorable mention of the Mack B series chasing down the married couple from "Maximum Overdrive?" Yes, a low thrill, low speed chase... but it's a murderous self driving semi.
gta 5 cops "why do I hear boss music?" dispatch "suspect is driving a red semi truck" also how is cannon ball run or smokey and the bandit 2 not on this?
How could you leave out Maximum Overdrive? It's one huge chase! That's like leaving Vanishing Point off of a 70s chase scene top 10- WHICH YOU ALSO DID!
No surprise that the Blues Brother Monaco could go 115.It had a cop engine,a 440 cubic inch mill and its before catalytic converters so you can run regular....Anyone remember regular gasoline?
Do one for the 70s Original Mad Max opening chase, Smokey and the Bandit (endless full length of the movie), Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, Vanishing Point, French Connection, Bullitt and the biggest big daddy..]of them all...DUEL.
You mentioned how you like seeing cop cars crash, you definitely need to look up this scene because it’s a bunch of semis crashing into a bunch of cop cars in the desert.
