I think the franchise as a whole was probably placed far too high. Original Battletoads? Rightly infamous, enough to justify the franchise a position on the list. But the other games? Battletoads/Double Dragon? Battletoads Arcade? Battletoads 2020? Cakewalks. Put it at #7 or 8 on the list with an acknowledgement that it's JUST the first game that has it here.

Playing Battletoads on SNES was always fun. The real difficulty came from playing coop with my brother and friendly fire is a thing, and we could never stop hitting each other. And the Remnant games are beautifully difficult

Because of the fact you can either cheese or over level most challenges in souls games I wouldn’t call them the hardest. You can make them the hardest depending how you wanna play but you can also make them kinda easy. Besides sekiro

100% most of the souls games but i wasn't capable of beat the first battletoads, even playing the Rare replay version with the rewind options. Lol. That wheel level on rails was just plain impossible.

Mega-Man sure is hard, not only do you have to know which weapon can easily beat a boss, but you have to find power ups hidden in each level. Jeez!

The overall crash bandicoot series is not really hard. Out of the main installments, the first one and 4 (it’s about time) are the only challenging ones.

The Ice Cavern level in Battletoads is my favorite. I usually lose interest in playing any further after that though.

It was funny to me that when I got back into gaming all my fav games were “the hard ones”. (Elden Ring. Hollow Knight. Cuphead. Don’t Starve. Celeste. Etc) Then I remembered that all my childhood favourites outside of Mario & Sonic were Contra, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Earthworm Jim, TMNT, The Immortal, Maximum Carnage, Crash Bandicoot, Riven, Resident Evil, Hexen, etc. LOL. Makes. Sense.

I had to give up on Nioh 2. 1 I was able to at least beat, with the help of summoning people for help. Which I would also count the first Nioh game, as one of the hardest games, I have ever completed. But the 2nd one. I could barely get through the first few missions.

I think (and this is just a theory a GAME THEORY lol!) is that the reason these games had such a high difficulty level was probably because some disgruntled employees weren't getting raises or promotions from their bosses at the company so they took their frustrations out on the game by making it the hardest thing you would ever play. (And were probably shocked when someone figured out a way to beat the game.)

I ADORED outbreak when it first came out. But that final FILE2 level is one of the few things I’ve ever rage quit. Struggled like hell through level, kill the final boss and die collapsing on the getaway vehicle due to virus level. Brutal.

The 1st contra is pretty hard but if you know how to conserve your lives and don’t have a death spiral, it can be beaten without the Konami code..I’ve beaten it at least 5 times..shit I think Battletoads is beyond crazy hard

seriously ? Ninja Gaiden easier than Monster Hunter ? MH requires you to learn the (always) telegraphed attacks of the monsters - but once you know them, you can beat anything in it without getting hit Ninja Gaiden (esp the black version) requires extremely precise inputs with little to no reaction delay

I guess soulsborne does deserve no.1 even though i don't find those games hard anymore but atleast they were all tough my first playthrough and they remained consistingly difficult wit each installment. most videogame series are not all hard, most games are easy, even battletoads series is easy only the first one on nes is hard. i guess the only other series besides soulsborne that every installment is hard too is ninja gaiden and maybe nioh aswell.

I disagree with dark souls at #1. Everything has a pattern and once you know it, it becomes a breeze. It's only an illusion of difficulty. Battletoads should be #1.

Hardest game is of course Sea of Thieves. You can spend hours just collecting treasure and then get killed by other players or NPC's and lose everything and have to start over with nothing lol

On top of that cuphead and darkest dungeon.. Ghost and gobblers was probably the hardest back as a kid.. The 1st one. Second one I beat many times as a kid love it
