Looking for the best herbal medicine books? Look no further! These are my Top 10 herbal medicine books OF ALL TIME. Yes, that's a bold claim, but as a registered nurse with over 30 years of practice, I can tell you that these are all you need. I make some comments in this video about a classic from Rosemary Gladstar that may surprise some of you, but stick with me to the end and save your comments until then. If you're into prepping, homesteading, sustainable gardening, off-grid living, etc, these books should appeal to you because they are timeless and completely offline. The US really doesn't have any accredited schools for herbalism or herbal medicine, but having these books in your library and actually applying them will put you halfway there!

@@CarlosSantana-we6ts Honestly, the best for that type of thing is a generic athletes foot cream you can buy over the counter in any pharmacy store - use it for all of those areas.

I'll never forget my grandmother telling me it was going to rain on a sunny day clear of clouds. I was young and didn't understand so I asked her how do you know it's going to rain? She said when I get her age I'd understand. I thought she was magical. And she was! I have read books like Dead Doctors Don't Lie, The Inflammation Syndrome by Jack Challen, Back to Eden and Sojourn to Honduras Sojourn to Healing by Beverly Oliver. These books have changed the way I view things in general and all together. I'm on my journey to starting my own tea business and want to become as knowledgeable as possible in order to be a help. I find it interesting your take on the word tonic. When my daughter was 3 months old she had bad colic, we took her to our G.P. and he gave us a prescription that was filled at the pharmacy. It was called, Something or other Tonic! I remember the word tonic was in there because it made me think of the old westerns with Dr Feel Goods Tonic!!

Yeah - it’s what we in medicine would call a junk word (like “balm” or “elixir”) - no quantifiable substance to it and allows for a wide range to cover one’s butt, so to speak 😂

Hi in 22:00 you mentioned the effective ingredient in the plants what book do you recommend for this For example you go to the merk manual to find out what is treatment protocol then what do i have to buy the nurse drug book or the merl will help me with this and then what book to choose the right herb with the effective ingredient if you can give advice and how the process go with books recommendation this will be helpful

The Merck and Tabers won’t really help you much on the plant side (more for medical terminology and physiology). For effective plant ingredients, the quickest/simple one is amzn.to/3Ox19NE For (significantly) more in depth, I recommend the 5 vol series for health professionals (but again, it assumes you know medical terminology and physiology). I just saw they released a 2023 version of The Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine. The one linked is the 2016 version and the one in your video is the 2000 version. Do you recommend any of the 3 versions or should we stick to buying the older two? Thanks for such great info!!!

Do any of these books explain the dangers of some herbs being used while on specific prescriptions? We ran into this issue when my mom was ill. Her prescription medicines were not helping, so she turned to herbal supplements. We were unaware the dangers of mixing some Supplements with pharmaceuticals.

You’d have to be really cautious with a nebulizer - especially on dosages. Read up on steam inhalations and extrapolate from there.

I beginning to intermediate on my herbal journey. I don't want to waste time and money on fluff. I have limited knowledge of the medical industry. I have medical Herbalisum. I have been fortunate to have found books in thrift stores and garage sales abd and even in antique stores never know where you will find one. I think my moat expensive ine was $4.00. Happy hunting.

Nothing! Even words like, ‘elixir’ should only refer to the mechanism of delivery (tablet, IV, injection, etc) - it shouldn’t be used to refer to its nebulous effects.

@urbancuranderauk8675 Maybe an example would clarify: If I infuse aspirin into vodka and call it an "acetylsalicylic acid tonic," I'd be referring to 'tonic' as its delivery mechanism (infused alcohol by mouth), but the medicinal component (aspirin) is quite clear and we know very well how it works physiologically. But if I call it a 'blood tonic,' alluding to the idea that it offers some vague improvement to the blood (in this case, anticoagulation), that's a problem and it signals that I have no clue as to how (or if) it actually works. That, as Bon Jovi would say, is bad medicine :)

All of these books are expensive except 2. Used books are just as expensive when you pay shipping. There are alot of really good cheaper books out there if you just search for what you are wanting to learn.

I've found that in most things, you get what you pay for. On the flip side, there are a lot of expensive books with very little substance. I can definitely tell you that you won't find the information in those Healthcare Professional books anywhere else.
