The KK victory variant for Sakura can be modified while releasing the buttons and Kei will trip, surprising Sakura. Dan's alternate intro is a reminiscent of his MSHvSF intro, although that one comes with an explosion! Speaking of disrespectful, MegaMan, Roll, Servbot and Mecha Zangief will explode when KO'd, but Sentinel will NOT. Why? I mean, it's a robot. Sentinels explode a lot in the Konami beat'em up game.
It's insane how their "fuck it, add everything we got in the vault" mentality in terms of their spritework ended up being their ace in the hole. Over time I learned to love 3 and tiny morsels of Infinite, but MvC2 was just the perfect storm. Nothing ever has come close to it since in terms of chaotic fun
I truly believe MVC2 is the best in the series even though all Capcom really did was simply crammed everything pre-existing content from previous games in there.
Im most impressed with the Rogue Silver Samurai power up. Dan also has a raging demon and Sakura gets her evil form similar to Zangief to Mecha Zangief. For those who may not know about it.
Tron Bonne’s team super (I think it’s the Throw assist variant) also have a secret. She does ‘Lunch Time’ super, but the team super is different in that the Servbots will still run across the screen even if Tron miss her initial attack. I remember doing this team super just to miss with people who thought will have a free hit, but was got rocked by the Servbots.
5:05 If you have the PlayStation 2 version, simply press Select. If you have the Xbox version, simply press Back. Same applies to the digital PS3 and 360 versions. Unfortunately you cannot taunt by pressing Light Kick and Start simultaneously in these versions.
@@arthursnyder6424 go into training mode and see for yourself. He basically rubs his towel on his back faster and faster until he catches on fire. Lol it's a funny 1
I discover Cyclop´s special moves not listed in the command list.wich u can do by charging back+punch(then press punch repeateadly) and char.back +kick.
I did not know this, thanks. I use to play this game so much back in the day I literally played with ever character I was so good at this game had different team setups and everything, I played thousands of house it was bad lol, I did not fuck around when it came to this game. If I played it now, I know most definitely I'll get my ass handed to me lol.
Also if you kiss Silver Samurai while using Rogue depending of the blade he is using she will absorb Speed for Lighting, Power for Fire and Defense Up for one charge of Ice.
And Hyper Armor if he has 3 levels of ice too, fun fact! She also gets that from Colossus in Hyper Armor mode, and Mech-Zangief! (And herself, if she had hyper armor as her buff, but that doesn’t really count.) Edit: Oh, it was mentioned in the video lmao, oops!
@@MacAves Give you one more. Jin's special state when he comes in as last character can also be taken. Basically if they had a special state beyond power, defense, speed and health, she could take it, and it would last longer on her then them in most cases.
Great video! Didnt know anything about stage lore so learned about that!! Also Spiral team super if you choose her 3rd assist will give her a different super as well. Its pretty much a psuedo level 3 but in level 1 form. Another fun fact about Rogue team super. Its the same double team super as X-MEN vs SF!
That’s what I initially thought he meant, and I was like I thought everyone knew that, but I never actually paid attention too the portraits so after doubling back to look I see what he means. Childhood curiosity caused me to search the health bar color thing
Is the lifebar actually different for A assist and G assist? I can clearly tell the color of B's assist lifebar apart but A and G looks the same. I'm color blind so that probably explains why. Capcom really didn't seem to care too much about designing for color blind back in the days. :/ I could never play puzzle fighter due to yellow and green gems looking the same and now it's annoying to learn that even Marvel vs Capcom 2 has design elements that are inaccessible for color blind players too.
I may be remembering this wrong but I heard that Dan’s special intro was a continuation from another game where he got kicked off screen during someone else’s intro. I think it was Sagat who kicks him during his intro in like a CvS game or something.
@@chicco5033 that sounds right, I’m not positive though. It could’ve even been an alpha game. I just remember him holding him by the face or neck at the start of the round, lifting him up and then kicking him so he flies off the screen.
In Alpha, that's supposed to be Dan's dad that Sagat throws. Sagat canonically let's Dan win because he doesn't want revenge to consume him so I doubt he would throw him
Alpha 3 can have multiple intros depending on the ISM chosen. When there's Ryu vs Sagat, the Sagat ISM influences his intro. One of which is him using a flash tiger uppercut sending Dan flying.
Also if you were playing this on ps2 (not sure if the others does this) once you unlock all colors for every character, you can choose 3 of the same character
I love using triple teams of Spidey, BB Hood, Morrigan, Ice Man, etc. This is also unused in Marvel 3 because everyone has a voice line calling themselves when tagging in, I'm sad it was scrapped in 3
In regards to the difference in Character Select screens between the Dreamcast version and Arcade/Naomi version, the original intent was that the Arcade/Naomi version had specific characters you couldn't obtain in the Dreamcast version and vice versa. This was done in Japan, and the only way to get the Arcade characters onto the Dreamcast console was to plug your own VMU (or VMS in Japan) into the Arcade VMS holder. The marketing strategy was to get players to play both the arcade version and Dreamcast version to get all 56 characters. This was scrapped in the U.S. at least, and characters were just time-released in the arcade. In the Dreamcast version, you bought new characters based on EXP points. Woosah, random memories from the Dreamcast years. Now that I'm older, I realized that this was a nice marketing and sales strategy before DLC was ever a thing. When I was younger, I just thought it was innovative but was bummed when Capcom USA and Sega USA didn't import this cool concept over.
Bruh...you just unearthed all types of ptsd.😂 I now remember certain characters I really wanted needed ridiculous points to buy/unlock & there was a trick if you constantly hopped in/out the character store, the price would randomly go up & down so you could try to buy it cheaper.
What's even worse is that the Japanese versions of the game (minus the Xbox version) made unlocking characters harder. On Dreamcast, you had to deal with N points, D points and V points. N points made you connect the VMU to the arcade cabinet and play the arcade version long enough. D points made you play any of the four offline modes (Arcade, VS, Score Attack or Training) for 10 points per minute unless the game is paused or the software gets reset without hitting "Mode Menu" from the pause screen. V points made you win an online match, but since 2004, playing online is no longer possible due to Capcom shutting down the Matching Service that year. On PlayStation 2, P points and V points are the only currency used. You get 10 P points per minute for playing any of the four offline modes assuming you don't pause or soft reset. V points require online match victories, but you can no longer get V points due to Capcom's Matching Service shutting down in 2004. Thankfully arcade linking is no longer a thing for this version, so N points are gone. On Xbox, you only have the offline points since arcade connectivity and online play are absent from this version.
Shortly after the Japanese DC version came out, there was a hacked save online that you could download with the web browser on your DC and save it to your VMU. That's how I originally got all the characters in the game unlocked. Over 20 years later and I remember doing that.
I just remembered that you can change your lead character after selecting them during the loading screen before the battle starts by holding down either one of the tag buttons.
Zangief also has a Team Hyper in the form of his Lariat. And the Dreamcast select positioning is different because you have to unlock certain characters in the shop.
Being unlockable had nothing to do with the positioning. You had to unlock them in the arcade, too. Your arcade manager could simply unlock them if they felt like it, but I found most of them were misers at the time and forced us kids to spend quarters to unlock them.
The Dreamcast character select was rearranged from the arcade version because one of its replay value mechanics, as emphasized in the instruction booklet, is that you only start out the game with a certain amount of characters, and you have to unlock/purchase the rest of then with in-game currency. You don't start out with all 56. So they rearranged the selection screen for the Dreamcast by placing the characters you start out with--like Tron--in the middle, whereas all the other characters are located near the edge of the screen sphere. The other versions give you all 56 then it doesn't matter much where they're all located
Even better: if you import the Japanese version of the Dreamcast game, you'll kinda be stuck because you need to take your Dreamcast VMU to a Japanese MVC2 arcade machine and play on it to slowly unlock more characters for console. Thankfully Capcom released a special memory card that unlocked all the characters for tournaments, and the savefile is dumped to the internet, so you can copy it to a VMU and unlock everything
You know, I've seen the clocktower destruction sooo many times. And yet, I never stopped to think how sort of weird and unique it was. Never though, "huh, why doesn't that happen anywhere else?"
I was convinced as a kid that since the clock tower had it the other stages MUST have one as well and tried everything I could think of to trigger their destruction.
@@biohazard724 It's weird... since the Abyss stage actually morphs while you fight on it! Spooky ruins.... floods with green goop... now the goop is red and all the ruins are sunk into it.... It's actually ANIMATED when it happens!
@jmcrofts The Rogue power-up I discovered myself. Also you forgot to add that when Zangief turns into Mech-Zangief & if she steals his stuff, she gets the Mech Zangief attributes: she can't be knocked down & takes WAY less damage. When Rogue kisses Captain America, she gets a defense boost if he has his shield & a power boost if he doesn't have his shield on him
Not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but Jin also has some weird taunt stuff, if you taunt with him and keep mashing taunt he actually gets a hitbox that does very little damage but it's pretty funny to see.
I would love an hd remix of this. RE-Drawn sprites with a little extra flare. I know, wishful thinking, but damn, the art is so nostalgic, but an upgrade, and some udon, or another art group’s style… perfection
They can even do a Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 2 and have all stages, songs and endings from COTA all the way to MVC2 and even include 1p vs CPU mode, single match, 2-on-2, and 3-on-3 and a color edit mode from Capcom VS SNK 2. And maybe even add MvC2 endings for each character.
The arcade and DC versions had different starting rosters so some characters were available at launch on one platform but not the other. As a result, many of the ending artwork sketches have different characters replaced to reflect their default lineups, and a few that are exclusive to the arcade as well. Some characters have win poses that can't be cancelled out of post match. Only one I know of is Felicia scratching her ears with one of her friends dropping down.
Well, now you're gonna have to get used to the arcade roster, cause that's the rom we're getting in the collection. Also: - Zangief also has a hyper in team combo he can normally use. He moves forward doing his double lariat (probably since X-Men vs Street Figter). - Pretty sure Rogue gets nothing if she tries to absorb powers from another Rogue and quite possbily Dan, cause Dan is such a joke. - Once Servbot dies, he explodes in little life crystals that you and the enemy can pick up for healing. - Jin also has a secret taunt. Do it and mash kicks, I believe and he'll start rubbing the towel on his back faster and faster, catching fire. - You can also pick a team of one character, like three Cables. Think you need to have all colors and characters unlocked, but that's on by default in releases post Dremcast and PS2. It's not as obvious, cause usually your first character is locked out.
I saw this twice in the arcade version, where a special version of Jin's taunt, where you taunt, and mash every button while you're taunting and Jin is turning red while going really fast. I never was able to perform this taunt in the arcade or the Dreamcast.
another fun little easter egg is you can hold jill's fireball and depending on how long you hold it will be how long the fireball goes for. same with megaman, etc. they get little glowy/flashy things showing it's charging you just hold down the button and when you release it, it fires it for an extended period of time.
Sakura’s “secret” win pose is just a normal one in the PS2 release. Also, and nearly every other version, Taunt is as simple as pressing select. And how are basic mechanics like Rouge’s Power Drain or THC-exclusive moves a secret? Or the Assist-based HP Bars for that matter?
so coolto hear something like this about this game, sad the game dint use capcom and marvel lore for his background trough but still happy time seing this.
It bothers me to this day that they chose Son Son over Katt from BoF2. They have similar aesthetic but I was playing BoF2 when I got this game and was hyped for about 3 seconds when I saw Son Son before realizing she wasn't Katt.
I love the BoF series (BoF2 is my favorite game). I always thought it was criminal of Capcom to not include Deis (aka Bleu) since she's a recurring character in 1-4.
This game was always a weird mix of lazy and intricate game design. They literally just reused sprites they’ve had for over five years but also took the time to model Jill into this game’s style. There were so many other possibilities they could’ve chosen to put into the game but chose to include a cactus in a sombrero instead.
There’s one more, and it’s on the staff roll screen, on te arcade version where you can see magneto and goki’s sketch, and thats because on consoles you start with 24 playable characters and in the arcades you start with 28
during team hyper combo, zangied has the lariat that goes on the ground (not aerial) and Mystique also has a unique combo that runs on the ground, changing in all the characters (you have to use the assist type that punches). Roque can also steal Jin's golden armor and Jin also has a damaging infinite taunt in the corner Also Felicia's intro, that is dressed like a nun and takenthe cloth of is the condinuation of her darkstalkers 3 ending
Get Servebot Nd do quarter circle forward and the taunt button and he will throw a super small airplane that you can guide up or down a bit and it does next to nothing for damage. Captain Commando's fierce kick grab can be mashed super fast and drain an opponent completely of their health. Dan has a hyper combo grab that will 1 hit kill anyone except like Jugger and Sent. Mashing Ruby Hearts blue dash (I'm not looking up the name rn but it's quarter circle forward plus either kick) anyway, mash that and taunt but simultaneously and she will fly up out of range for a while. Gambit can also do this but he actually gets stuck. There are others but it's been years since I've played..... I need fightcade!
Great video as always man! Just to add and echo some of the other comments for characters that have THC only supers: Rogue has Hyper Repeating Punches, Gief (your guy) has Hyper Lariat, Samurai has Hyper Hyakuretsu Tou, Spriral has Hyper Metamorphose, and Servbot has Rushing King Kobun for his Assist B THC. To my knowledge you can basically combo any of these with most normals into level 1 THC. Would be helpful for your Gief corner pressure so you don't always have to go for his grapple supers (even though they are swag)
You could have tossed Dan's level 3 super on there (if I recall it wasn't in the move list), which is performed by reversing the inputs to Akuma's Raging Demon. (Akuma uses Low Punch, Low Punch, Forward, Low Kick, High Punch. Dan uses HP, LK, Back, LP, LP)
In Sakura's secret there is a fourth victory animation that is when the friend does not arrive with Sakura and she stumbles and Sakura is with a surprised face
5:40 OHHHHH.. I love stuff like this lol. Kakyoin in HFTF after doing his normals does the same thing where he poses after his normals Same with his taunts That one is even cooler because he can basically do multiple JoJo poses when you alternate between them Man :)
Son son absolutely did exist outside of MvC2 though. He comes from an old 80's Capcom arcade title. Still good stuff though. Edit: said that way too early. Way to make me look like an ass, lmao.
An example of that is that during the credits you can see Spider Man taking a selfie with Sakura in the home console version or Morrigan in the arcade version
