You forgot to mention Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors is a PUPPET. *PUPPET* I mean, it's just so shocking that thing is a puppet controlled by people. It honestly looks kinda real. Plus, it proves puppets are better than CGI

The film was directed by Frank Oz, one of the geniuses who developed the Muppets with Jim Henson (and also iconically voices Fozzie, Miss Piggy, Grover and Yoda) and the voice of Audrey II is provided by Levi Stubbs of The Four Tops...it was nominated for 2 Oscars - Best Visual Effects (losing to the very deserving Aliens) and Best Song (Mean Green Mother From Outer Space lost to Take My Breath Away from Top Gun), and it is the only screenwriting credit of Howard Ashman's career, as he adapted the book of the musical from stage to screen

I don't think it has been made into a 'feature film'. I think they just recorded a live show with the 'Hoff so I don't think it technically counts as a 'Movie Musical.' But yes, that's a fabulous show!

+Chromaggia Just watched it for the first time the other day. I agree that she's wonderful, and the cast as a whole were just brilliant, really. But I didn't really get how it could be a prequel, when the war against Heaven was announced at the end of Devil's Carnival. Confused me a bit.

Yes!! Devil's Carnival and Repo made the list! It's a shame that they failed to mention they were made by the same people, and star a lot of the same people as well, but I'm happy to see it getting some recognition. And of course, Nightmare Before Christmas was there. I honestly forgot Sweeney Todd was a horror musical until I saw it, which surprised me because it's one of my favorite musicals. And hell yeah Rocky Horror. I couldn't help but smile when Tim Curry started singing.

AGREED. I've seen both Little Shop and Rocky Horror, but I prefer Little Shop. Honestly, in some places, Rocky Horror Show is just confusing to me. But, Little Shop is about a blood eating plant that lures people into feeding it. What's not to like?

It's creepy and violent. If was made into a good movie not that disney crap version. It would be considered horror

+Lucy Wallis the book and the silent film were both gothic horror. However, when Webber turned it into a musical, it turned into a gothic tragedy more than horror. Oh, the last movie, which they use for this list... Horrible rendition. I went to see it on Broadway again just to remember how good it is and erase the movie from my mind.

I'm so happy RHPS WAS #1 the first time I went to see it in theaters one halloween, they put a big V with red lipstick on my forehead for virgin. In the middle of the movie, they stop, and ask all the virgins to come forward to be spanked with a paddle. They let you run through the isles in your undies or nude, whichever you prefer. It is so much fun. I highly recommend seeing it in theaters for halloween

So, I was skimming through my recommendations an came across this video. I thought the title said "Top 10 HORRIBLE Musicals" (HORRIBLE instead of HORROR) and saw Jack as the thumbnail. I immediately clicked on the video prepared to rage without even watching. I was going to drop the most fan-boyish comment of 2016. I'm glad I reread the title again. Thank you for including my favorite movie of all time on this list, as well as another one of my favorites, *_Little Shop of Horrors_*.

But like I said, it's not like there are hundreds of horror musicals to pick from. Too bad they didn't include musical plays though, cuz that would have widened the scope considerably!

I'm glad HAPPINESS OF THE KATAKURIS is on this list. My one gripe about this list is where is SUCK? It's a cool vampire musical with Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, and Malcolm McDowell. The songs sound like a throwback to 90s alternate rock.

Yay! Horror musicals get recognition! I really like Repo. It has the distinction of being a movie in 2008 that uses practical effects for blood and organs. Even the best special effects teams can't make CG blood look as realistic as cheap prop blood.

I gotta check out Repo! The Genetic Opera, it actually looks damn cool! Also, those who haven't seen The Devil's Carnival? I thoroughly enjoyed it so I'd recommend giving it a look see ^_^ Also - Nightmare Before Christmas is my jam! Anything Tim Burton, I'm there xD such a genius!

Corpse Bride should be in it. I don't know if it's considered a musical, but there is at least five musical numbers (five I can remember) in that movie so, why not? Honestly, to me it's even better than The Nightmare before Christmas. And definitely better than some of the cited in this video lol

"The Phantom of the Opera" was originally a book, by Gaston Leroux, published in 1911. The '25 film was simply the first movie version--at least, the first that's still around; apparently, one other silent film version was made earlier, but it's now lost. Also, so glad that "Repo!" and "Phantom of the Paradise" are on here. They're both amazing cult classics that don't get nearly the attention they deserve.

It isn't really horror. I like Phantom but I honestly don't even agree with it being on the list at all. Especially the movie version, which is very toned-down.

Maybe the point of the musical went right over my head, but I never saw Phantom of the Opera as a horror...anything really. I just saw it as dramatic. How does it count as horror?

The book it's based on definitely has some classic/ gothic horror elements. It can get pretty dark, especially if you're not expecting it.

Sabrina Battle well it’s a ghost story with some creepy moments. The phantom sending anonymous threatening letters, the skull outfit at the masquerade ball, his creepy little dungeon. It’s not hardcore horror but it’s still in the genre.
