Allen Thomas are you really that stupid? He will go down as one of the all-around best baseball players in the history of the sport. If you know you anything about baseball then you should know that.
Ichiro is right there w/ Cobb, Rose & Gwynn in the conversation for absolute best contact hitter to ever lace up a pair of spikes. He was so good it was almost....unnatural. And he did everything clean, with the utmost grace & humility
I think he preferred (subconsciously? )to join Paul Molitor ( a player he'd admired)with the triple representing his 3000th . He stood a good chance of being safe at home had he "gone all out."
I remember his 1st year in Seattle. At the start of the season his autographed baseballs were selling for $35 at the Mariners team store. At the end of the season they were $300, if you could find one.
TripleJPlay11 those shouldn’t count. Still like to think he’d be somewhere around 4,000 hits but is still a whole different ball game between Japan and MLB
TripleJPlay11 minor league is pro ball too so might as well count that also right? There’s a reason a lot of has been guys go play in Korea or Japan when they’re on their decline
I don't think most casual baseball fans understand what a game-changing player Ichiro was. He was not great. He was so much more than that. It's hard to define.
Everyone forgets the best Ichiro moment. WBC 2009 final Japan vs S.Korea. Top of the 10th, drives in two runs to give Japan the lead and finish it. I doubt there was a better moment for him considering how big the rivalry between them two is and being in the final.
Misleading title I don’t see any of his spectacular defensive plays. I would put his walkoff home run of Mariano on this list that just doesn’t happen. Players like Ortiz and Cabrera have done it ichiro is in that group of superstars.
He was cheered even when his name was called in the lineup in the opposing team's ballpark. He never had any shady rumors/stories, so he was respected by everybody as a damn great player. I'm glad I was able to watch him and Jeter in the same team in person.
Hearing Dave Niehaus's voice accompany Ichiro's accomplishments brings back a lot of emotions and fond memories. We will never forget him in Seattle. "It was something out of Star Wars out there!"
What Reymar thinks: "people will think I'm smart because I corrected him on Japanese" What we really think: "what an idiot, he didn't understand he was talking about 5-1, not 51"
Ichiro Suzuki, vino de otro Planeta, que maravilla de pelotero, su dedicación, determinación y disciplina y seriedad lo convierten en un ejemplo para los jóvenes del mundo, grande por siempre.
He is truly the greatest pure hitter the game has ever seen..if he would have started at 20 there is no reason he could've ended up with over 5000 hits..konichiwa
EthansTv. Wait, apparently you missed his comment, it said if he was going to build a dream team, like Pete Rose, nope cant get him, he's like 70, Nolan Ryan, no, he is 70 as well, Mickey Mantle, nope, he is dead...its a dream team, hence the word dream
Can't quibble too much about the plays listed, but there are issues with the order. His three biggest offensive accomplishments are: the total number of hits in Japan and the US; having over 200 hits in 10 consecutive MLB seasons; and setting the MLB record for hits in one season.
He once said the reason why he didn't smile in games even when he did something great. He just didn't want opponents to think that he was happy about such small things like timely hits and sliding catches.
This top ten is terrible. Ichiro was so much more of a player than his hit total. And obviously with as good he was and for so long, surpassing these milestones were an inevitability...like, you don’t get to 3000 without putting together a few 200 hit seasons. his first hit and first hr are on this list...who cares about those, it was bound to happen. where’s “the throw”, where’s the walk off against Mo, where’s when he robbed the home run from the first row of bleachers....no instead we get two inconsequential HRs and 8 hitting milestones.
1: 258th hit 2: the game-winning double of WBC 2009 Final 3: 3000th hit 4: The Throw 5: 4257th hit 6: 4000th hit 7: 200th hit of 2010 season 8: His final match at Tokyo Dome 9: Inside-the-park home run in the all-star game 10: the infield hit from Randy Johnson in his first all-star game Opinion of one Japanese
Glad to live during Ichi's playing years 20 years from now I will tell kids I saw a ninja playing for Mariners, he batted like a samurai and run like wind
Video should be called "Top 10 Ichiro Milestones". No Terrence Long play, no walk-off homerun off Mariano Rivera, no wall-climbing homerun robbery, etc...
A fitting tribute to one of the all-time greats. A more humble and talented ambassador of the game never existed. And this excellent video does Ichiro proud.
How about when he pitched as a reliever for the Mariners? It obviously wasn't the best showing by a pitcher by any means, but it definitely is one of his best moments.
it was an absolute pleasure to watch this man play every single night growing up watching the mariners. looking back i didnt know how good i had it. i got to see this man magic every single night.
@Ryan Smith I was watching that game and I screamed at the TV for the Yanks to walk him. The next thing I knew, Ichiro was striking a pose before touching the plate with the game-winning run.
