Great compilation. Peter O'Sullivan will never be surpassed. We were near the winning post for the 1977 Red Rum, having watched Liverpool/Everton earlier that day. Wonderful memories....👍
Hard to narrow it down to 10,just glad to see Dessie in there, an absolute legend and the biggest crowd pleaser since Red Rum, gives me goosebumps watching him.
Denman is one of my fav horses and I won a few quid, for a change , on the race. But I saw the way Neptune stayed on and backed him from 80/1 downwards for his National. I no doubt lost to the layers over the years but these two days gave me great joy.
Simon Holt's King George (Enable v Crystal Ocean) is a cracking commentary but one everyone should try and listen to is John Hunt's commentary for 5live of Sprinter Sacre's second QMCC victory. A truly iconic piece of radio👌.
Simon Holt Edredon Bleu vs Direct Route "Edredon Bleu will not surrender the lead lightly. Here coming at him are Direct Route and Flagship Uberalles... The final fence. Three in a line" Chills.
@Alan Sharp. Most folks watching will not know about that - too young, and I agree with you, the best commentary ever. Many of the comments on here are about a horse winning a race. The subject of the video is the commentary not the way in which a horse won a race.
@Ian Smith I agree. His commentaries on his own Be Friendly and Attivo are worth listening to again if you can find them, although my favourite was his commentary (go to 5mins into the race for the best of it) on Arkle's fantastic performance in the 1965 Gallagher. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tamkrqCAegs.html
@Damien Montero its commentary not who the best horse is dont recall best mate having many great commentaries tbh still one of the best horses to grace the game undoubtedly
Naturally tough to narrow down to 10 but I'd have Rummy in 1977 at top and would've squeezed 1973's win in there somewhere too. No Arkle vs Mill House or Night Nurse vs Sea Pigeon?
Shame there's always BBC/C4 commentaries in the footage from the 80's and 90's. Would love to hear some racecourse commentaries on these big races. Especially the Cheltenham Festivals, with the superb commentaries by Raleigh Gilbert.
The old commeantors spoke quickly and clearly and add to the race, the present crew get flustered forget to breathe and it becomes a muddle, if there are more than 2 fighting it out just forget about it.
Where was Harbinger's record breaking victory in 2010 at Ascot in the King George? Never seen a horse gallop on the flat as brilliantly, if he had stayed sound and run I think he would have won the Arc .The BBC commentator was Australian and he was clearly amazed at the sheer speed of the fellow.
That race finished Denman are you sure? He won a second Hennessy and finished 2nd in 3 more Gold Cups finishing in front of Kauto Star on 2 of those occasions
@@silversurfertraveller like the man said he won a 2nd Hennessey with 11.12 on his bk & ;finished runner up in 3 Gold Cups (all that after the problem with his heart) so don't talk shite m8!
Appreciate its hard to choose ten, however how is Red Rum v Crisp, or Sea Pigeon's first champion, or Sprinter Sacre's second Queen Mother, or Frankel's Guineas win not included?!..
Arkles Gallagher gold cup.....the greatest national hunt performance of all time, giving all that weight, and breaking track record by 17 seconds?.....not on the list? And the vastly inferior kauto star, on twice.......tut-tut😮
I've switched my like on this video to be the first dislike on it. That's because the title is a farce. This is only horse racing commentaries at Jockey Club owned racecourses. This means that races such as Desert Orchid winning the Victor Chandler at Ascot, Dancing Brave or Sea The Stars winning the Arc, Arazi winning the Breeders Cup Juvenile, Secretariat winning the Belmont, Denman's second Hennessy, Tidal Bay winning the Irish Hennessy and many others by definition cannot even be included in the misleading and embarrassing list. Title the video as the top 10 commentaries at your courses (and even then it's debatable).
Just shows how commentary has improved over the years. The "voice of racing" was truly awful. Dessie on the near side, Yahoo on the far side. Yahoo on the far side, Dessie on the near side. Dessie on the near side, Yahoo on the far side 😴😴😴
where is Jim Mcgrath Commentating on See the stars when See The Stars won The Arc de Triomphe Jim McGrath announced a horse of the lifetime a superb in Equine this should have been on the list too
