People need to understand that mad men is an intimate show , it may not be as bombastic as game of thrones , but it really makes you feel for the characters , you feel as if you know them for years , watching how they grow or in some cases implode
The King Slayer oo True. I still haven't found the right way/ what to write to be able to convince people around me of that. They just think it's slow, since, as you clearly pointed it out, it is't 'bombastic'
I think Peggy and Stan's first project together was a pretty insane and hilarious moment. Y'know the one where they strip to come up with new ideas? Totally came out of nowhere but was an excellent scene.
One minute you're on top of the world...the next minute some secretary is running you over with a lawnmower BAHAHAHAHAHAHA That line gets me EVERY TIME!!
For some reason the whole sequence of Roger playing the keyboard while Peggy roller skates around the office really got to me. The whole thing was so simple yet so surreal.
Damn. I never realized Don set up that whole thing with Roger and the oysters and the elevator being out of service as payback for hitting on Betty. Serves me right for not giving the episode my full attention. That's how good this show is: practically everything is a setup for something else.
They were so bad for each other. He didn't respect her or her work. He didn't respect her struggle as a woman in a man's profession. I'm just amazed it was the stabbing that finally broke them up! She should have walked away when he scoffed at the idea of a "Civil Rights March for Women".
She knew that she was pregnant the whole time the insanity was just in Peggy herself as a character, she dismisses the child hoping it wasn’t true for her career sake and eventually time caught up with her 🤷🏻♂️
+MsRainbow Brite I think she just became so frustrated and bored one day with carrying that façade of being a happy housewife that she finally took it out on some pigeons.
TheGoldcountry I was hooked from the beginning but I will admit the first three episodes are just ok. They have some really good stuff going on but don’t really have anything holding it together. Episode 4 was their first great episode and is still one of my favorites
How could they have missed the scene with Joan being served divorce papers in the SCDP lobby, and responding by throwing a model airplane at the receptionist?
+alejandro lopez YES!!!! I don't normally stay and watch the end credits for t.v. shows, but Mad Men's (or the crews') choice of songs makes me stay a little longer because they are just classics and so good.
The "Betty shoots birds" while smoking scene is a metaphor for how she dies from smoking. Bye-Bye Birdy. The whole dead bird motif is heavy throughout the whole series. In this scene, she is shooting herself/ killing herself. The dog that attacks the neighbours birds in this episode is bought by Dick/Don on Sally's birthday and symbolizes how he uses Advertising (and communication in general) to conceal the truth about himself and the effects of the products he sells.
However, Matthew Weiner (lead writer and show creator) didn't know Betty's (or Don's) fate until the end of season 4. It's very possible though that he took that into account when he decided she was to die. Good thinking.
-Don has to pick up a cake for his daughter's birthday but he's like "screw it". -Betty gives Glenn a lock of her hair. -Pete's mom gets lost at sea and he decides not to bother looking for her.
She was not lost. She fell off the 5 stories cruiseliner into the sea with sharks while being old lady. They well only searching for a body and a Manolo.
The closing scene of Season 5 where Don saunters off the set unscathed and ready for season 6 to the tune of "You Only Live Twice" is the modern day version of John Wayne galluping into the sunset.
I like this show as much as anyone. The thing that always sticks out for me though is Lane's suicide. I loved that character and I thought Jared Harris was brilliant. It really bothered me when Lane died and that's one moment I always think of when I think of Mad Men.
3:09 Honestly Lane committing suicide was one of the few character endings on this show that upsets me more than losing Sal. One of the other ones was Adam committing suicide.
My favourite scene is in season 2 episode 3, when Harry asks for a TV department, and Roger says: "You are now head of the television department, which is comprised solely of you".
Don finding out Rachel died, Don almost drowning in the pool in California, Peggy skating around Roger playing the organ, Betty cheating on Don at a bar with an unknown man, Pete realizing his dad was in the plane crash, and so many more that we can mention. Mad Men is a masterpiece.
Hahahah that scene at the end where Lous asks “you know who had a ridiculous dream and people laughed at him?” and after a long pause Stan goes “...you?” Is by far one of the single funniest moments of the entire series Hahahaha

Good grief, "Bye Bye Birdie" had been stuck in my head for an entire week after it was featured so heavily in one episode (Season 2 or Season 3, can't remember)
I'm going to miss mad men :'( such a great show I've learned to analyze tv commercials now I'm always really into them now Most insane thing to happen here is obviously the lawnmower scene but my favorite overall scene is when Peggy and Don are arguing in the suitcase
Miss Blankenship dying in the office and her body having to be smuggled out... Or zou bissou... Or Bert Cooper's musical number... Or Jim Cutler on speed...
StealthyBacon99 They're great but still far behind of HBO: The Wire, The sopranos, Game of Thrones, Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers, Rome, Entourage, True Detective, Boardwalk Empire, Deadwood, Last Week Tonight, etc.
Well it was an insane idea by the author to make a secretary cut of an executive's foot with a lawn mower but in the end it was just an accident. Betty shooting the pigeons was REAL intended madness that came from her mind. That's my #1.
The moment when Lane hung himself was so shocking and so sad. Ginsberg was a pretty crazy character Ben Feldman played him so well. I'm surprised the Don's daughter catches him in the act of having an affair or the scene when he wife sort of crashes the car into a tree was not mentioned
A couple of early ones you may have forgotten: Freddie Rumsen pissing himself in the office. Roger's heart attacks, especially the second, where he has a pastrami sandwich in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
While I agree the Lawn Mower scene to be #1... I still think that Lane Pryce's suicide and Ken's eye getting shot out should have been MUCH HIGHER on this list... When that lawn mower was brought into the office I said "Something bas is going to happen with that thing... It has it written ALL OVER this episode now!"... Making the accident slightly predictable; I say only "slightly" because I didn't know exactly what was going to happen... And my mouth certainly dropped, not believing what I had witnessed when it happened However... Ken getting shot, made me gasp... I SERIOUSLY thought they killed him... And was screaming "WHAT?!" for the next 10 seconds... And Lane Pryce's death, while felt like it was coming, also threw me for a loop because of his demeanor and personality I never would have thought he would have taken that route... That is why I believe they should have been higher on this list...
The Lukanator If Under The Dome doesn't make that list, I will consider the possibility that all of reality itself is just an elaborate means of trolling me...
A presentation is being made in the boardroom, and Don's elderly secretary has died. They're desperately trying to get rid of the body without the clients seeing. Loved that scene!
