I had a Springer for 14 years. He was a wonderful dog. So gentle and sweet. He beat cancer after getting treatment but sadly developed hip dysplagia right after that. Best dog ever. Never left my side when at home. He did not like to be left alone. I miss him still.
I have had a Springer Spaniel next to me for 30 years, that’s 4 different Springers. Everyone claims theirs is the best dog in the world and they’re right.
I have one springer and we are hoping to adopt another one but lemme tell you that this breed is very mischievous and playful. That are a very high energy breed and have to be exercised daily. They are a lot of work but I would never have asked for a better dog. Our Duncan is as loyal as any dog can be. Deep down Duncan is just a big baby who loves to snuggle ^^
Nice facts. Can't wait, I get my Liver and White English Springer Spaniel puppy in 6 weeks (he is 2 weeks old today). I am so looking forward to it. Like being a new Daddy all over again, now my children are older and doing their own thing.
Springer Spaniels are only ranked 13th smartest dogs yet one of mine learned her name in 2 weeks, Sophie also learned how to shake hands and sit in two weeks. She was potty trained in 3 weeks and she knows certain words like “chicken” or “toy”. Today Sophie is 3 years old and she’s opening drawers and lifting up trash can lids with her snout. So I think Springer Spaniels could be #3 smartest dogs.
Just to clarify the information given on coat color... Lemon and white, red and white, and orange and white are considered "off colors". The only acceptable colors for a Springer are black or liver with white, predominantly white with liver or black, black or liver tri-color, or blue or liver roan.
I have always had Goldens. I lost my Golden in Oct and decided to get a Springer. It’s been a tough puppy stage. She has a little rage sometimes and I just don’t get it. Hoping she grows out of the phase soon. We are only in month 4 so lots of growth to come. Hoping she will be as good as my Golden Retrievers have been to me.
Great video! Well put together and also informative! About spaniels: I´ve heard that the name "Cocker Spaniel" comes from that the dogs were trained to start working when they heard the sound of the old flintlock rifles being "Cocked". When they heard that sound they went into "Retrieving mode" and started to do their job even before the hunter took his shot! They were very good at it too! I´m probably wrong though!! All retrieving breeds seems to come with a gilded and glorious past, and I´m a sucker for legends (And spaniels) hahaha!
Nice video, but I think there's a mistake in the list of ESS coat colors. Red and white is the color of the Welsh Springer Spaniel, which is a similar but separate spaniel breed.
Can anyone comment on what the average size of a field springer is? I want a field but want a dog that’s at least 40 pounds, is that reasonable to expect?
I used to have a springer spaniel his name was Mac but before that I also had another one her name was drake but I didn’t get to meet Drake because I was not born or I was an infant and Mac ran away and drake died ☹️
I know plenty of intelligent Springers but mine has got to be the dumbest dog on this planet 😓 Super loving and friendly though. He’s a celebrity where I live because of his wonderful personality...but seriously... he’s SO dense!
