Hello Drew, Im a 71 years young lady, who loves your channel. I have always loved the crafted, curated, and collected home. My style from the time I started my own home, some 50 years ago. So enjoy how you have such a great talent for design. Keep up the great work and I look forward to your next video.

Love your style drew ! You’re my biggest inspiration on RU-vid while we are redecorating . I’m the chief decorator and I’ve been going around for 4 years literally on 100 different decor styles . I just started collecting things we / I love . I don’t know if I can decorate ik just one style . How can I mix styles like Mexican and traditional Spanish decor ? Or English and French ? I love color but not bold I. Your face color that makes my Add go crazy . Lol . Love the colors of Mexican design but love the brown furniture . Can’t stand the trendy painted furniture . I feel like ppl on Facebook MP are ruing beautiful vintage and antiques . I guess I will try to mix a bit of antiques with modern and vintage . I’ve been so behind watching my favorite designers . May I ask where you got your beautiful chin my table from ?

I think the US is too obsessed with trends. I think it is mostly fueled by a capitalistic need to keep people buying stuff. If you look at Europe, especially the older wealthier houses, they decorate more classic, with furniture, rugs, etc. that are timeless. The idea is for things to be valuable and well built enough to last. The exception to this is the whole IKEA thing, but even that is a style that has not “changed” they way that “trends” do. Just my thoughts. Good style, I think, should be lasting beyond any trend.

I'm with you Drew, I am soooo over pillows! They got ridiculous in the end, and as one friend said, "I'm so tired of tossing a ton of pillows off the bed to sleep at night and lifting up the pillows again to make the bed." I also liked the shot you had of brown pillows on a brown sofa, so they almost disappeared. I'm short legged, and like a pillow behind my back on the average sofa, but loading down sofas with pillows so no one has a place to sit, or your room ends up with pillows on the floor. No, I am so over it.

I remember the brown colors popular around 1975 when I was a teenager. We had brown leather furniture and brown shag carpet….my job to rake the carpet after my sister vacuumed 😅 colors always come back but have different names. I love collecting ( thrifting and antiquing ) and curated….not crafting though. I’ve always been an oddball with my house in colors. There’s always been red , but changed the other colors. I inherited some of my grandmother’s things and my moms from traveling the world( Air Force brat here) so my house is British colonial/ West Indies , transitional to incorporate all them and my likes. The things I thrift I love ,but don’t get attached if I find something better to exchange it for. Love your home you’ve created - watching from Lake Wales ,Florida

I think the best trend is to use a neutral backdrop- natural colors on walls, floor and ceilings- then pop it up with art, objects, textiles. You get away from trends that way and its so easy to change up your mood with just accessories. Also if anybody hates painting walls like I do, its a god send to have neutral walls. Purple wall trim and blue fireplace mantles with yellow walls just don't cut it.

Finally someone who knows what is Shabby Chic and who talks about it by an appropriate way. Your “Coquette” trend (I didn’t know this “Coquette”name, except for the Coquettes in France on the 18th century) made me think of Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic right away. The red colors you showed are very nice. And the crown moldings in foam were already existing in France when I moved in my apartment in Paris in the 80’s, very convenient to complete a job or balance other rooms which were originally more naked. I also found interesting your very present ceilings to attract the eyes to them. Nice photos. It is refreshing to watch a video where what is said is true and shows a real form of knowledge. Finally a serious and interesting conversation! I should listen to you regarding the pillows, I have too many and I love them all, what is wrong with me and my pillows?…

I’m so excited that the trend that dictates your home looks like everyone else’s is over. Your home should be exclusively about what you love and makes you happy [unless your selling, then minimal is the best]

I enjoy your videos! ❤ I decorate with what I like and hopefully makes our guests feel at home, when visiting. I have found that I rarely feel the need to make big changes. Sometimes I just switch out the placement of small items or add a little something different.

THE PAIRING OF BROWN & RED GIVES AN ANTIQUE FEEL TO ANY DECOR OR OUTFIT. (PS you're right about throw cushions)

Definitely restraint with the throw pillows! Hard to resist, but they definitely get too busy and cheap looking. I am attracted over and over again to white pillows on a white sofa, but when I think about executing that it seems really tough to have the restraint!

When I married in 1977 and did our first (and only) Master Bedroom, I went to Sherwin Williams and bought paint titled "Hershey Bar". With linens and curtains in varying beiges, rattan baskets and many Ferns.

I've been sticking to no throw pillows on the bed and minimal for the sofa (I keep a couple because comfort) and I've been loving it.

Hey Drew... LOVE your style! Your style so resonates with me. I love to decorate with things that reflect me! You should see my huge art room... it's totally collections I've curated to create and craft one-of-a-kind things. I'm 71 and just getting going to find my groove again. I became and author and book publisher at 50 (and a single mom). Now a grandma, focusing on sharing all things creative with my granddaughters. I am so glad I discovered you. The apartment makeover you shared with your landlord was amazing! Especially that bedroom. Awesome and refreshing and calm!

*A LITTLE OFF-TOPIC BUT:* Don’t sleep on discount retailers like Ross, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, and Tuesday Morning. They’re not what they used to be, but every now and then you can still find something really worthwhile. I’ve been focusing on elevating my barware and glassware game. While Christmas shopping with my daughter at Ross, I came across the perfect hand-blown red and white wine glasses and champagne flutes 🥂 by a Czechoslovakian (now the Czech Republic 🇨🇿 and Slovakia 🇸🇰) glassmaker called Bohemia. And for a STEAL! I was prepared to spend much more and I’m so glad I didn’t have to.

Glad to see the Laura Ashley-esque, vintage chic stuff coming back from the 80's and 90's. I love it, and really hated the Magnolia farmhouse trend (very "Decorating Den" as we used to say).

Red and brown..how about Mahogany? I love it! Deep browns like espresso and dark cocoa are gorgeous. Collections of singular rando looks like a tidy hoarder..lol. Like the pattern clash in common colors. Happy New Year.

I've always loved a room where the aesthetic has an embrace of opposites...a very "masculine" feel ( heavy wood / marble furniture, Iron window mullions etc) with traditional feminine detailed decor , velvets, breezy light curtains , a soft floral plush rug etc..or a feminine room with masculine touches. The browns that are trending are simply gorgeous!

HA I just painted my hall bath BM's Fading Twilight, which is a gorgeous red brown! I had no idea until now that the color is on trend. I've been obsessed with it for a couple of years now. I was going for a moody, exotic look. 🖤

Good video. As for patterns and colors in drapes, I've been leaning into what is Jake Arnold's style - which is also much of what I love already, only for me this started about 2 years ago. I love limewash, velvets, linens, dark olive, caramel/rust colors...my bedroom is very dark, which is great for sleeping in my case, but hard to see the colors well so I put up cream linen drapes, then I bracketed them on the outer side of windows with rust color linen sheets that I turned into drapes on the sides so more light can enter the room. I moved my bronze velvet drapes into the front bedroom that has much more sunlight and the color is so pretty in there. I couldn't be happier to see warm colors return after all the gloomy, depressing grays. There's a reason to be careful about going overboard on trends. Also, good for you re: designing our houses into our personal homes, what we like and what lets people know who we are. Trend shopping is not a great way to spend money unless there are pieces that fit our styles and we might keep. It's really to make other people money, much like how cosmetics always change and are expensive.
