Thanks for the video brother just started using whetstones in your video is definitely educational and helpful. The biggest tip I got was spend the most time on your first stone and be happy with your edge from the first stone I think That was my biggest problem thanks a bunch brother

Most definitely, that is the most important thing i said in that video hands down. Thanks Brother ❤

I think stone knife sharpening is one of those 10,000 hours skills. I do think it’s a bit superior to most guided systems

Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this. I really need to work on putting more time into my first stone. Should I be able to reliably cut through phone book paper after my first stone? (My first stone is a 320 Grit). I usually just see if I can shave hair, and the I move on.

Great video!!! I would over emphasize number ten as being number one. I agree 100% there are so many beginners watching various channels thinking they need a ten stone progression in order to have a sharp knife.....it's so false....if your not sharp on your first stone all your doing is wasting time, the end result might be a mirrored edge, but dull as a butter knife...call me nutty, but I will take sharpness over mirror any day of the week. Great tutorial for beginners!!!
@NeevesKnives

I 100 percent agree, and in my sharpening videos a try to push people not to even worry about any other stone but the first one, if your not willing for that to be your edge then your not done, because the first stone is your sharpening everything else is refining for the most part.

Ok...so what would be your recommendation for stones for a beginner on hand sharpening?
@NeevesKnives

Diamond plates, or Aluminum oxide oil stones, and Arkansas stones, or a mix of these 3.

No'ice!!! I prob told ya already but I have wore into my fingers on fine stone, so bad I have to not use them for a while. I even tried cloves. Now I'm having trouble feeling my angles anymore. I used to be able to rock the tool/knife/sear/etc to feel it and I can not really anymore (heath probs) Its getting to the point I hate my edges more than not. I have some wood working tools I sharpened a couple years ago I havent used and they are ait whittling, dont think i can do it with a knife anymore. The brown ceramic you have looks titts. Bless you two, xoxox
@NeevesKnives
@NeevesKnives 4 года назад
Yeah i burn my fingers up to from too much sharpening, so ive gotten good at just holding the angle and just checking it constantly

I sharpen knives using a sharpening since i was 15 yrs old. Now im 17. Doing scout activities with the knife and it became dull. One tip for begginers. Just buy a cheap knife to practice sharpening. Just predict the same angle that you did on the other side. Use about the same angle on the first side. Dint have to be very precise. If its sharp, its already a functional knife.
@NeevesKnives
@NeevesKnives 4 года назад
I agree i usually recommend something cheap but decent quality, the hardest knives to sharpen can be gastation knives, because the heatreats are so bad, but ganzo Ruike knives bucks, those are great knives to practice on, and practice makes perfect
