I have used the truckers knot many times. So that trick of adding another loop. Is a great addition. Because no one likes seeing a loaded truck with the load slopping around. Thanks for a informative video.

I’d love to see examples of these knots in action so we can know what knot to use in which situations. This is the best tying video I’ve seen because you explain and demonstrate so well. I’ve saved this video to my favorites.

I agree the video was really good. The knots were shown in a way that was easy to understand (I've seen videos where they do it so quickly I feel like I've watched a magic trick instead of learnt how to tie a knot). I've used some of those notes but it would be useful to be told where each knot is typically/ often used. I think it will make the knot more relevant and make me remember it as a result.

Overhand knot for tying your shoes. Half hitch for tying off the end of a knot. Sheet bend for tying a lighter rope to a heavier rope, useful for throwing over branches. Slipknot for throwing up onto a tree and pulling it over. Marline spike hitch for when youre tying a bowline 😂. Bowline can be tied to anything and never slip. Alpine Butterfly Loop is useful if you want to hang things from line and don't want to have to tie the bowline with a long working end. Clove hitch is awesome for starting lashings or tying down your horse for a sec. Truckers hitch to tie down gear tightly; Bowline one end of the rope, wrap around the gear, and add a truckers hitch so it stays snug in the bed of your truck.

Remember, the most important step in securing any load is: tap the load or lines and recite the incantation "that is not going anywhere". I'm glad you included that when demonstrating the automatic trucker's hitch. Nicely done!

I am 65 years old and to this day, I still know most of these knots. I learned them back in the day when I was a 13 year old in the Boy Scouts. And it amazes me to this day that I still remember them. And I have used them for most of my life. I am so happy I spent my five years in the Boy Scouts.

This is GOLD! For outdoorsman stuff, a decade in the Army, and decades running a farm, the bowline, reef (square), and fisherman's knots, and the taut line hitch ... have been my go-to knots. I always tell folks, half-jokingly, that if I had to pick one, it would be the tautline. You can adapt it for so many purposes. But now you give me the automatic grip (how did I never figure that one out on my own!?!) Brilliant! And I will make time to learn that trucker's hitch. So useful. Anyway. Thank you for this.

I've been learning and practicing a bunch of knots lately and this video is terrific - probably the easiest one to follow that I've watched and very clear demonstrations. The spar hitch was new to me and I really like it, will probably start using that in place of clove hitch for most applications. The adjustable grip hitch is sort of new to me also, much easier to tie than a taut line hitch, though it seems not quite as tight to the working end of the rope and slips easily if not dressed and tightened up well.

I am in the same situation as you, I've been using most of these knots for work and adventures, like camping and fishing for most of my life. I learned them as a boy scout and from my father as a kid. I remember how to tie most, but once in awhile I will forget and have to go to a book or RU-vid for reference. I used to watch the videos Corporals Corner did on knots, he does a good job too. But this guy really does an excellent job showing these knots! I also saved this video for reference. He will be my go to reference RU-vid channel from here on out!!😁👍👍

I’ve used the trick with the truckers hitch to autolock without running back through the anchor, just going through the loop again and keeping the second line wrapped under the first to lock when pulled. worked great for me held the tension fine. I’m sure there are pros and cons to both but now I know another way too.

Your automatic Trucker's Hitch is nice. I may end up using that. Some things I have been teaching for many years as improvements on the regular version is to use a slipped sheet bend to finish off on the center loop. It is easy to hold tension as you tie, much stronger, and is easy to untie. I also find a figure 8 for the center loop tends to be easier to untie after heavy loading. Thanks for your content!

Great video. On the automatic truckers hitch...I run the end thru the loop twice( without going back around the anchor point a second time) and then pull for tension. The rope will still lock against itself and stop from losing tension when tieing it off.
