Because Stairway is not a song. Led Zeppelin has contributed with many pieces of art to the musical history, but Stairway to Heaven is not one of those. Stairway is THE song, it's Rock itself, and it deliveres a kind of feeling that can only be achived due to a pact with the devil. Stairway to Heaven it's not about Zeppelin, but timeless magic.

I would agree, except for the fact that Stairway is #1. Stairway in my opinion is a good song, but not enough to be even in my top 5. I think Stairway is overrated.

I agree that it's the greatest rock and roll song of all time, in terms of importance, popularity, and pure greatness. That being said, it's not my favorite Zep tune.
Love EVERY one of their songs. When the Levy Breaks is so great . Communication Breakdown is from the beginning. Just love this band. Led Zeppelin was my favorite and still is and I am old. My 12 year old grandson says Grandma you are so wild..It makes me smile

I've always liked the folk style of it. I think the lyrics are excellent. I also love the mandolin, one of my favourite instruments. 2nd best on IV at least.
Ten Years Gone...one of my favorites. It incorporates such fantastic vocals and lyrics. The instrumentals are gorgeous and it takes you on a journey throughout the song. Definitely deserves a place on the list.

It's riffs are orgasmic, but the song drags on for 3 minutes longer than it should. They got pretty indulgent without much change, just resting on a riff for minutes.

With a Led Zeppelin Top 10 without "Stairway to Heaven" you can't be a LZ fan. "In My Time of Dying" and "Achilles Last Stand" have nothing to do in a LZ top 10; The rest is OK. In "Achilles..." Robert Plant's voice is particularly strained.

There is not a bad Led Zeppelin track or an album which is a testament to just how great they truly were. Great songs, check, unbelievable singer, check, incredibly creative and inventive guitar player, check, possibly the absolute best rythym section in all of rock history, check. Epic.
Agree with the list , but for me Stairway To Heaven is number 1 . I love whole lotta love , i love all songs by Led Zeppelin , but Stairway is a song from God and should be number 1 in the list. Also thanks for creating this list

Pretty sure the purpose of a WatchMojo top 10 list is to generate controversy and discussion, so not all that surprising that they don't even agree with themselves!
I've listened to Zeppelin for literally 50 years, seen them live twice and couldn't rank order the top 25 songs they're all so good. Add in live versions and there's no way to pick one over the other. The raw talent of these four guys is epic.
Pretty much think these are the 2 songs that are universally credited as the bands best. I mean most people dont even know their other songs unless they're fans. Everyone knows Kashmir and Stairway.

TRB was hot for a while in late 1990. But fell off the radar somehow. Such a great song. But it holds sentimental value for me. Was playing on the radio during my send-off before I shipped out to Basic Training. And again on MTV, right before I got on the bus. I had it stuck in my head the whole trip!
Stairway isn’t their best song in my opinion it’s either since I’ve been loving you or Achilles last stand but stairway is still amazing and has my favourite guitar solo of all time

I would mention "Stairway to Heaven", "Ramble On", "Since I've Been Loving You", "Going to California", "Tangerine", "The Song Remains The Same" and "What Is and What Should Never Be" as some of my favourites. Such a great band! Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd surely the two greatest bands of all time!

Now now... we went into this thinking "Stairway's #1." But after a LOT of research, discussing with experts and huge fans, reviewing previous lists (and reading the comments & reactions to those lists), and as huge fans ourselves who have grown up listening to LZ's discography back and forth, inside out... When the time came to select the final ranking, our thinking was that: - If/when we do a Top 10 Iconic Rock Songs of All Time, Stairway to Heaven will not only represent Led Zeppelin but it will rank pretty darn high on top of the list; - But when it comes to LZ's discography, the song that deserves #1 is probably not Stairway to Heaven. Don't get us wrong, Stairway may be overplayed but it's certainly not overrated... we even ranked its solo #2 on Top 10 Guitar Solos ... but if a young person came to you and said "I heard of this Led Zep band that is apparently amazing... can you play me something? we don't - with all due respect - think Stairway is the song you'd play, you would probably pick what we chose as #1 (or something else). To conclude, while we always have about dozens of variables and all clips are the result of hundreds of people's input (excluding the watchmojo.com/suggest users, which push that numbers to several hundreds), we don't try to copy or go against what others have done, but it's not like we're the first publication to give the nod to a song other than Led Zep (even the venerable Rolling Stone mag didn't pick Stairway as its top Lep Zep track). Again, we knew not everyone would agree or disagree with this or any other list... enjoy the music... we hope you liked the clip as much as we enjoyed creating it.

You could put so many songs in this list and justify why it is right simply because they have way more than just 10 good songs, Achilles Last Stand should be on this list though. The honorable mentions should just include the rest of their library of songs!
