Another great video! I think that I have some more interesting questions tied to your question 4. In Rhythm of War, Warlight was formed by the combination of Stormlight and Voidlight using the eponimous Rhythm as some sort of sound-based emulsifier. I think this indicates that Ettmetal could be separated into true Atium and (more importantly) Lerasium using some other form of de-emulsifier. However, I believe that the most interesting idea from that is: It might be possible to create God Metals of combinations of shards that aren't combined. Some examples being of Preservation and Honor, or Ruin and Odium. Since Warlight, Towerlight and the unnamed Odium + Cultivation Light exist, with the appropriate Rhythms without them being a truly combined Shard. Scholars would just have to find the correct emulsifier. I wonder if these theoretical God Metals will have Allomantic, Feruchemical and Hemalurgic abilities tied to them... And if their alloys with the 16 base metals will have other abilities tied with their own Mistings and Ferrings... Food for thought. Oh, and personally, I believe Trell is an Avatar of Autonomy. Autonomy is clearly up to something, and is extremely expansionist. We may find out more in the White Sand Omnibus coming out later this year. Either way, we will find out more about Trell in The Lost Metal. 6 months to go!
Ettmetal is what the southern Scadrians call harmonium. Funny enough, the name harmonium is never actually brought up in the books, that's just what Sanderson calls it when talking about it
We've seen speed bubbles move already. When on an object large enough the speed bubble will lock in place relative to the object. We've already seen this happen with a train, so spaceships should be no problem.
I wonder if they snap to something nearby with enough distinct Identity to form a connection. In modern physics terms, it changes its frame of reference so that it's not moving - relative to its observation aboard the train. When you're just standing on Scadriel it could just be snapping to the identity of the planet and not moving from a personal frame of reference but from a cosmic one - along with the planet itself, just like traveling with the train. The train would have a presence in the cognitive realm and an identity.
My theory for Harmony is that it will be a double bluff by Brandon. We have some indication/prophecy of Discord coming and "the people will love him initially" and it's implied in an ominous way when combined with how Harmony's powers are being effected and his mind. The implication is that Sazed is going to lose his mind more and more and devolve into a monster, but from an outside perspective it will appear as if he's gotten control of his powers and is actually doing stuff now, but I think we might end up taking that at face value and discord might be an evolution of harmony. The powers not being force together to mix, but being channeled in different ways for a greater overall good. The shield and the sword. Preservation used to protect Scadriel, and Ruin allowed to expend its greater energy by lashing out into the Cosmere and destroying Scadriel's enemies. It's the non-interference and non-violance of Sazed that is causing Ruin to be an issue. Ruin isn't evil, it's just inevitable entropy. If you give it a target and expend its power (just like the well of Ascension) you effectively free up Preservation to interfere on Scadriel and untie Sazed's hands in that regard. I don't know exactly how Discord will originate or what form it will take, but I am certain that Ruin needs to be used, not held. That ties in so perfectly into its Intent and into era 1's themes. Ruin was not dangerous to humanity when its power was utilized in the well - likewise, Sazed has a huge well of power, stronger than preservation, slowly eating away at him with its Intent. If only he were to use it despite his anti-violent nature.
This was a fantastic comment! I think this is a great examination of what's going to be happening with that shared going forward. There is simply no way Brandon is going to make Sazed 100% pure evil, it's going to be a lot more nuanced and interesting than that for sure.
@@LoreoftheWorlds Ya I'm really into the idea of Discord being a good change and Harmony being the problem. Because Harmony is not harmonious, it's just constantly trying to stop its halves from destroying each other. It's a facade of harmony. I like Discord as the true harmony. Sazed accepting that they are diametrically opposed powers and that they do not need to be controlled and forced together to do good. That's HIS bias that is holding him frozen in inaction. The sword and shield imo is the perfect analogy for the powers of ruin and preservation, and while (just like Discord) on a surface level they are opposites and "discordant" with each other, when viewed from the right perspective, they are a harmonious pairing of ruin and preservation - attack and defense that operate in harmony to protect the Shard and what it's defending.
Isn't the deal with atium that not enough time has passed since Kelsier destoted Hathsin for the atium geoids to regrow? I don't think it has anything to do with Harmony existing.
About the splitting of harmony idea.. Wouldn't a fusion or split of the shards kill the vessel, especially if opposing elements are at play? And Sazed is only a single person.. If he did split harmony and survived the process, would he even be compatible with the new piece? Imagine splitting the shard to form something new, only to find you don't fit. Now you have a half lingering around and you are stuck with a weaker form, while having an intruder at the door.
This is really good. It's a nice summary of what I need to look out for in the lost metal. Can't wait to know more about Kelsier and the southern scadrials... And the future of Harmony's champion.
This is a fantastic idea! If you got enough investiture and the right magic system in one place, I wonder if you could stabilize a mini-perpendicularity to dip into the cognitive briefly and travel through it as you described. Very good thinking!!!
The issue with this is that the Cognitive Realm is only smaller that the Physical Realm because so few people comprehend the distances between planets yet. Once they become aware of interstellar distances, the distance in the cognitive realm, created by their conceptual understanding of distance, will be reflected there. Quick travel across the cognitive realm will eventually become much slower, if not impossible.
*RoW and Tlm Spoilers!* 16:16 I dont think Trell can be odium since taravangian is the shard odium now. And Im not entirely sure (i didn't finish reading it, if im mistaken please correct me) in tlm we learn that trell is actually a piece of the autonomy shard.
