Your channel should be called "Ovary Explorer" ha ha. Just kidding but I also wanted to say that your videos are unlike anything else out there and you're very attentive to detail which is great! Keep the ripened or unripened ovaries coming, Jared. :)
You repeated rose apple, olosapo, pitangatuba, achacha, and the snake fruit, great videos though! Please do videos for best bananas/strawberries/ect! Or however you would decide to arrange them
Half of this video is about tropical fruits. I am from Malaysia and grew up having a backyard and orchard full of majority of these fruits you’ve listed. Your list made me realised how truly blessed I am to grow up in such a rich taste environment my parents made. Imagine some people probably never have tasted, not a single fruit you’ve listed. I remember as a kid I would climbed a rambutan tree, ate some fruits and then climbed a water apple tree, ate some fruits, then next onto a guava tree, ate some fruits, and last climbed a mangosteen tree, ate some fruits and stayed there for a while on the long thin branches and did my homework while enjoying the breeze and the view of the paddy fields as far as my eyes could see. I would climbed back down after my stomach was content and I had finished my homework. And that was my little late afternoon snack rendezvous - always fresh, healthy and free.
That sounds like heaven, I’m very jealous. I’ve never had any of these fruits unfortunately. Where I live they are just impossible to get. I did get to try a mangosteen once in my life though and it was the best tasting fruit I’ve ever had.
I grew up with loads of grapes, a huge pear tree, many plum trees, apples, oranges, grapefruits, pomegranate and walnuts so I can also relate to being able to chill outside and just eat fruit all day lol. But it would have been cool to try those exotic fruits, I've never eaten a single one or really even seen any. The most exotic we can find in the supemarkets here is a lychee.
@@ub3rfr3nzy94 let’s switch places! Lol! I would love to chill out and experience those fruit of yours but I foresee I can’t snack on them more than 3-4 fruits at one time. Most tropical fruits can be eaten as snack and you can’t easily get full. Please come here... I’ll bring you places!!
Youre like the Anthony Bourdaine of fruits to me. I absolutely loved him (RIP). Some people binge watch Netflix, I binge watch your vlogs. Thanks for the great content, from Orlando Florida.
I had a rose apple on a trip to Jamaica. I tasted this when I was seven years old. I NEVER FORGOT IT. While in Jamaica, I ate three pounds of these. It is as refreshing as any fruit I've tasted. I could feel my whoe body hydrating as I ate it. If I was lost in the desert, this is the fruit I would hallucinate.
Me and my family goes to Phuket, Thailand every year, and I remember the first time I tried rambutan. We bought a bag for about 200 baht, and then we went back to the hotel room and ate the whole bag (around 500 grams) in 15 minutes. There was also rose Apples nearby a rubber tree plantage, and the guide just picked the good ones for us right off the tree.
Oh my god. We have one of those "strawberry tree" in my road. Eating them off it was one of my best childhood experience and I just can't understand why I can never find it in the supermarkets.
Wow. I just discovered you days ago . You make me feel to travel just to try exotic fruit. Im aware of a few places where u can have exotic mangoes, exotic and rare apples etc so this is right on my wish list. I also grow some fruit whenever possible and incorporate into dishes to create flavours ( along with nutrition). Thanks !
I lived in Malaysia for 2 years, back in 1974-1976. The different fruits were magnificent! One of things I miss the most. Your videos have reminded me of the wonderful flavors.
Dragon fruit can be really sweet, my family grows our own because the ones at the store are so bland, because most plaves that grow em picken them when they are only half ripe. But when they get fully ripe on the cactus, they are really sweet and have a little citrus kick to em :)
Before I even finished this video, I was thinking that for me, my favorite fruit has got to be a purple mangosteen. I haven't tried anywhere close to as many fruits as you have, but the one time I was lucky enough to try one of those things... I couldn't shut up about it for an entire week! Now, I'd really like to try the other 2 varieties you mentioned. Some day!!
Mangosteens are just divine, glad you got a chance to try the purple ones. Hopefully one day the other varieties will start showing up at markets outside Asia too.
Thank you so much for this channel, I've been watching since around 2015. I have now tried tamarind, dragon fruit, guava, rambutan, prickly pear fruit, many wild berries, and most recently, lychee.
I was a bit confused with the Strawberry Tree fruit that you presented as most associate this common name with Arbutus unedo, also known as the Irish Strawberry Tree, the fruits of which are also edible, mildly narcotic though quite different in look and presumably taste/texture. It really helps to include the Botanical names as you’ve no doubt discovered. Full marks for dedication and passion. Fruit is awesome!
Buddy your videos put a smile on my face. These top fruits are all so different than what us poor Americans are used to ... and when afar we seem to gravitate toward the familiar. If I get a chance to go to these areas you visit, I think you should make a kind of Fruit Tourist Guidebook. Even as an app, this would be an amazing addition to your awesomeness. Thank you a lot.
Jared Rydelek I look forward to that review! I live in Utah and would like to make my way East soon to try the paw paw. I recently picked a lot of wild thimble-berries and huckleberries and they are both delicious natives and they have rekindled my love for uncommon fruits. You're videos will be a lot of help for when I go to Thailand soon.
There are a few pawpaw festivals happening this season, so keep an eye out for one nearby. Lately I have been doing a lot of foraging, so there should be plenty of uncommon native fruit in upcoming videos.
Very easy to find at the right time of year. Go to Maryland/DC area and go along the rivers and creeks in September - they are everywhere and very yummy!
I once tasted a star fruit that was so acidic ( from the public market) that it seemed it was cutting my tongue!! and yet i have a friend who has the tasties ones ever...so something varies there
You put a good effort in your videos. You deserve more subs. I am using your advice in this particular video to look out for these given fruits because I consider you a good reviewer on them.
I'm so jealous every time I watch this show! I'm so in love with bizzare fruits, lychee was also my first "what is this thing???" fruit. I've never had much beyond them though. still my favourite fruit thought.
Fabulous video! I love how you compared all fruits to other known fruits and tastes and showed the textures and seeds. I hope you will do one on Cactus fruits in the near future.
Just stumbled onto this video, I have tried your Nr. 1 & 2 fruits and like them both, they rate up there with my favorites. When I can find them in the store I will pick up a few. Have wondered if either could grow here in the PNW. Going to have to find more of your fruity videos, I like strange and exotic fruits and other foods. - - - Have A Great Day
+Jared Rydelek We just forage for the fruits. These grow almost anywhere, and easily I might add. I think one of the reasons that these are not sold in markets or groceries is because they're so common. Nobody really wants to pay for the aratilis fruit.
My personal top 15 favorite and most delicious fruits. (I'm not a hardcore explorer so most of them are kind of lame...-_-) 1.Jak Fruit 2.Sugar Apple 3.Lychee 4.Purple Mangosteen 5.Apple 6.Banana 7.Grape 8.Blueberry 9.Orange 10.Pineapple 11.Strawberry 12.Dragon Fruit 13.Watermelon 14.Cherry 15.Durian
Some of my favourites; White Shatoot Mulberry - A long white mulberry with an explosion of vanilla and sweetness White sapote - Custard bannana pineapple Feijoa - Tart and Sweet hints of lemon and pineapple White adriatic fig - had one in my parents yard for years and the flavor is always amazing, sweet and moist Finger limes - Small caviar-like citrus balls explode in your mouth, very interesting fruit and great for garnishing
Langsat is lanzones in the Philippines...they also have it in Thailand...I've chanced on it in Chinatown NYC once....rose Apple we call Macopa in the Philippines 😊
#6. When I was a kid, we always climb that tree to get some fruit. I don't know but I haven't seen that tree for a very long time. I even forgot its name.
Ken Trujillo I climb the North American equivalent... serviceberries! They taste like slightly rustic blueberries when purple, and slightly sour blueberries when red.
Hello I stole this name from a commenter That’s not them, serviceberries/Saskatoon berries in Canada, those grow on large bushes that look like saplings sometimes but aren’t.
As a creative writer and avid role player I love finding channels like these. So many fruits I didn't know about and flavor profiles I never thought to expect. Can't wait to binge your content.
Love the top 10. I'm going to see what I can grow here. Agree with you on the dragon fruit. Got to see if I can get a yellow one. Also love the Atemoyas. Can't wait for mango month. I used to have a Keitt mango tree--huge mangoes, like footballs. Not fibrous, and a lot less sweet than a Hayden. Enjoy the mangoes. Good luck.
How about some love for the forgotten Black Sapote fruit, a.k.a. chocolate pudding fruit? You would love it if you tried a really ripe one. Maybe not a top 10, perhaps #11?
I've had it a couple times. I like it. Its not my favorite, but good. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n1jRMXodO5k.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ijXH8cWFE3M.html
Did you ever come to Maine and have a crisp meaty Honeycrisp or macoun Apple that has juice that will run down your chin and be both perfectly sweet and sour or try wild Maine Blueberries?
I love Rambutan, its probably one of my favorite fruits. Also they sometimes sell them at walmart. Theres also a market near me that always has some kind of interesting fruit
I just bought one in Sweden för a little more than a dollar because they have weekly offers in things. Waiting for it to get ripe so I can try it for the first time 😁
My favourite fruit I had in china is probably Yáng méi (Myrica rubra) it's just so delicious juicy sweet and sour. Other than that blueberries jackfruit and cherries are very high up there.
While living in Northern Brazil, one city had whole streets lined with Rose Apple Trees. In Brazil they call them Jambu, and I miss having those on a daily basis. Very refreshing, as you said.
YOOO achacha! I forgot this fruit existed!! That is probably my favourite as well. And I also dramatically announce “achacha!” Upon finding them in my local supermarket. They are so dang good. The texture and the flavour, it’s perfect. “Beautiful flavour” is spot on.
I won't be getting to Brazil any time soon, but will be not too far, out in Bolivia. Hopefully I'll get a taste of some of the 100 fruits available when I'm there.
Cherimoya are one of my all-time favorite fruits, and I so badly want to try some of the others in the anona family, but even finding a cherimoya is hard outside of a pretty narrow seasonal window when the ethnic grocers have them for a couple weeks each year.
You are in a fruit lock state of mind. You are think fruit, as in sweet, there are fruits that are good, but are not sweet. Avocado are common, but damn, they are so good. The same is true for tomatos. I mean, you have to cook them, but imagine world without pizza? What about chillis. I love hot foods. The world without hot sauce, shoot me. What about squash, not my favorite, but still good. You should do a video on non sweet fruits that are good.
My Wife introduced me to mangosteen and my GOD it was literally one of if not THEE best fruit I have ever tried. The sweetness reminds me much like an orange creamsicle mixed with maybe a strawberry or a cherry. I felt like I may have been eating a icecream or yogurt. So delicious!
I had a Chinese girlfriend that pronounced it as "Lee chee". I believe that's the Mandarin pronunciation. In Cantonese I think it is "Lie chee". Neither pronunciation is correct technically since there should be a T and Z sound in there but that is beyond my oral abilities.
Would you ever consider doing a review on Pond Apples? They grow really commonly near where I live, and I discovered a wild bushel of them recently, to find they're quite nice, albeit a little seedy. You said you were into Anona fruits, so I figured it'd be a decent fit!
Marathoning your episodes again, Salacca Wallichiana is my favorite fruit ever, every time i go back to Thailand I eat obscene amounts of them, about 30 minutes away where I stay in the south there is a huge farm of them and man you do NOT want to fall on those trees, but they're too good to stay away from the tree! lol
So glad that I have had a variety of your favorite fruit, the purple mangosteen. I was bowled over by how good it was. If you go to an Asian market you can find them.
Managed to snag a yellow dragon fruit from the oriental store next to my flat. Definitely has more flavour than regular dragon fruit and was worth getting.
Thank you for providing links to the follow up Top 10 in the description. It was the first thing I thought of, when I saw the video is from 2015. :-) p.s. We are creating a food forest in Thailand, these videos will be an inspiration for future additions! Regaring the list in this video: 10. We got Lichee, Longan, and Rambutan. I will definitely look for Pulasan. 9. We got them. It's almost impossible to stop eating them, once you started. 8. Got 2 trees, and I totally agree... there is nothing special about them regarding taste, but great to eat without anything added, 7. We got the white and red, still looking for the yellow one. 6. I recently planted one, but I have yet to taste the fruit. 5. I don;t like Sala, so we don't have it (yet), hehe. 4. and 3. sound super interesting... I want them both! 2. We got a few varieties of Sugar Apples 1. We got the puple Magosteen, looking for yellow, and never heard of Achacha, I hope I can get it.
I love strawberry tree fruit! I love fruits that taste like other fruits! I'll bet you the old osabo would be great as a topping for cheesecake. Cut into small wedges and not made into a compote! It tastes more like cheesecake than egg tart to me.
