The two anime that I felt the most has got to be Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Elfen Lied If you havnt watched those,I highly recommend it This is coming from a guy who didn't enjoy Your Name or A silent voice. Also Anohana wasn't good either Edit:just finished I want to eat your pancreas VERY RELATABLE CHARACTERS.especially MC(at least in my opinion) Had fun watching it Second half was really really good Enjoyed it very much

I finished Clannad earlier today. Thank God for those 2 final lighthearted bonus episodes. Episodes 16 to 21 was not bingeable for me. Normally I have no problem bingewatching a whole show, but I really needed some breaks between those episodes. It was too heavy and depressing. The song Snowfall *always* makes me cry now.
What about SCHOOL LIVE?! The ending is the saddest! Basically, there are zombies. This one girl almost gets turned into one, but she gets a cure… the dog gets turned into a zombie, and he died at the end. Also, Not to mention this one girl who had a best friend. They were locked in a room together because there was zombies outside. She promised she’d come back to save her, but never did! Also, the main character is seeing things that aren’t true. It’s cute at the start, but gets VERY Sad later, and gets dark each episode. The dog dying is the part where I cried the MOST!

'Grave of the fireflies' always tops the list of saddest animes. The anime is truly a masterpiece. I watched it once a year ago, but never dared to watch again !!!!
Personally, i feel like erased should have made this list. I mean, I think it should have if there were more spots on the list. It isn't as sad as the ones you mentioned, but it isn't all sunshine and rainbows either.

Steins gate was the only anime ever to bring tears to my eyes, the way they showed Okabe's emotions and how depressed he was brought me to tears. He will forever remain my favourite main character
Don’t get me wrong I have watched some of these and they have left me heartbroken but “ I want to Eat you Pancreas” takes the cake for me for the saddest and most impactful anime for me.
Hey... sorry to be that guy but I need some anime suggestions. I need anime that is really sad, really really sad. Or just depressing, bleak, numb, empty - real sorrow - real sadness - real pain. This may seem like too much to ask for but from the jump I would like the anime to get into it. For example. I don’t wanna have to ‘get into it’ like Clannad. I’m not saying I won’t if necessary but I’d like to skip the cliche where everything is fun - somewhat okay then everything turns bad - I’d like it to be extremely depressing and sad from the start. I recently watched Anohana : The Flower We Saw That Day. It was sad it made my eyes watery but it didn’t get me ... I want to completely burst into tears - I haven’t cried in a long time and I’m scared I no longer can. I just want to feel something again. I’m looking for an anime that matches my pain or allows me to grow into theirs. Much appreciated !
I thought Anohana, Erased, Your Name, and A Silent Voice made me cry enough until I watched To Your Eternity. One of the bests and made me sad so much that I can't even move on until now.

Bro, 5cm per second is not a tear jerker but it will melt your soul, it will make you rethink your whole life and honestly it's one of the most interesting plots that you need to dig deep to understand. I watched it yesterday still can't get over it. If you don't watch a lot of piece of life kind of animes i recommend you to first watch your name, a silent voice, i want to eat your pancreas etc, and then watch 5cm per second.
Finished it yesterday Was not that good In fact it was boring and I had to watch it 2x speed Kept waiting to see the death scene and it happened off screen Hated the supernatural element of it.she should have stayed a pigment of his imagination.that would have had more emotional depth If you're looking tear jerker you should watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica or Elfen Lied And be unbiased

@@CYANSAGE I was one of those before I started anime. I only started watching anime about a year or two ago, and I started with some of the more light hearted anime that are more directed at younger audiences, such as My Hero Acadamia, Fairy Tail, Black Clover ect. And when I watched Grave of the Fireflies, I knew nothing about it and wanted to pass time, and I was completely amazed. Its easily the best movie I've ever seen and is one of the best stories ever told in my opinion.

Grave of the Fireflies not only left me depressed, I lost appetite to eat for a week. Seeing a screenshot of the movie will put tears rolling down. It's soul crushing. This is truly a one time watch movie. I tried to watch it the second time to appreciate the beautiful art but didn't make it half way. Too traumatic. Learn Japanese lore and beliefs of you want to understand the title. Great anime
