Halloween Ends and Jurassic World Dominion had the same exact problem. The last movie in a big trilogy being marketed to us as the big battle to the problem of the franchise, but ending up focusing on a second issue that nobody asked for. Then solving what should've been the plot of the movie in the last couple minutes of the movie.
Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. Then, Jurassic World trilogy. And now, David Green's Halloween Trilogy. It's every *Requels a.k.a Legacy-quels* main problems nowadays. Starting with a great jumpstart (as a tribute to the original) from the 1st movie, mixedbag at 2nd (trying to be something 'different' + for "subverting expectations" 🙄), ... until the trainwreck in 3rd a.k.a. final chapter of trilogy after promised the buildup towards the final showdown.
Now, i am very worried about Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Scream (2022) about their respective sequels. The first movies, respectively, were good with every fanservice and nostalgia. But.. Will their sequels be better than the 1st? Or would suffer the similar fate as the aforementioned films' trilogies?
@@mohamadafifazizizaidi5625 I wanna say that Scream 6 will be good because it's the same guys that did Scream (2022) and I loved Scream and Ready or Not. But there is always that fear, but I'll go in hopeful
Did not understand the hype for Barbarian. I loved the first act, the second act was good but by the time we hit the 3rd act it completely went into wtf mode, and not in a good way. I get that the movie was a rollercoaster ride, the problem with that is that a lot of time they go off the rails. My #1 of the year.
Halloween Ends was the most disappointing. I'm not even a Halloween fan, hell I'm one of the people who actually like Halloween Kills despite its weaknesses but the more I thought about Halloween Ends, the less I like about it. I don't understand the build-up for a character no one cares about only to ditch the arc in the final act of the film. It didn't even feel like a Halloween film and there is no point to watch this film from start to finish ever again.
The movie is much better in re-watch in my opinion. Re-watching kills and ends has made the themes much clearer to me. This trilogy wasn't necessarily about the person michael myers, but it was about the idea of michael myers
@@bowlensage2038 no thats absolutely wrong. Its bs to say the movie wasnt about michael myers when 2018 was about re introducing him and laurie.. Kills was about michael reigning terror on the town... Ends was suppose to be the big bad final showdown we all been waiting for but instead we got a young adult who gets beat up by teenagers and whoops michaels a** and a niece that doesnt know whether she wants to avenge her parents death n kill michael or start sh*t with her grandmother and accuse her of everything thats happened.. The whole trilogy is based around laurie and Michael. Thats why ends is so bad bc they sold us bs..
@tmaynard317 ok, let me explain it then. 2018 was about Michael's evil haunting lauri, kills was about michaels evil haunting the town, and ends was about michaels evil spreading (which his evil spreads throughout kills aswell). Im not trying to break everything down but in kills, officer Hawkins kills his partner, the mob kills the patient. Hell, even Loomis tries to kill Michael. All of that is a part of michaels evil spreading. And please explain to me how the whole trilogy is about michael and Laurie? Laurie was barely in kills
@@bowlensage2038 i just said how the trilogy is about michael and laurie. Reread the first thing i said. First movies about re introducing eachother. Seconds about michael reigning terror. Third was suppose to be about the final showdown. The trilogy is literally sold off how it picks up so many years later and reintroduces Michael and laurie. Every movie in this trilogy was sold as a Michael and laurie film. Dont say different cus its a lie.
@tmaynard317 yes the marketing was misleading for ends im not arguing that it wasn't. But you just said kills was about michael reigning terror. Kills was NOT about Laurie. What's so hard to understand about that?
Halloween Ends! Halloween Ends all the way! I really enjoyed both the 2018 Halloween movie and Halloween Kills, so for Ends, it was just such a bizarre and unsatisfying conclusion! I wanted to love it like I did 2018 and Kills, but it was SUCH a massive letdown! Jurassic World Dominion comes a close second for basically making the same mistakes that Ends did
Been a fan since his Fate of the Furious review way back (I believe) and I've been on and off recently, I felt bad about not watching Cody's videos for a long while but I do enjoy his viewpoints on his review videos.
Most disappointing for me was Jurassic World: Dominion. I was expecting insane dinosaur action in the cities, but instead got some boring locust story set in an isolated area.
Halloween Ends takes the top spot for me. I liked the movie more than Kills, but most of us were letdown of the mismarketing of this movie as the final confrontation between Laurie and Michael. And with Corey, i think is not the actor's fault since he tries his best with he is given to do, but wtf you make him the main character in a trilogy finale just to have him killed in the final 10 minutes left, that really took me out of the movie afterwards
my most disappointing: #1- Jeepers Creepers Reborn (Love JC 1&2…wanted the franchise to come back to life) #2- Halloween Ends- Good movie but didn’t give me what I wanted #3- Thor Love and Thunder- Complete joke. #4- Texas chainsaw- Movie was okay..I wanted something like the 2003 remake tone.
I think you nailed pretty much all of these Cody. For me Halloween & Thor were really hard to swallow. Two iconic characters like Thor n Micheal Myers both made to look utterly ridiculous.
Jurassic World Dominion most definitely is up there. Especially coming off what the last movie and the marketing set up about how are we gonna deal with Dinosaurs roaming freely around and don't dwell into that. Halloween Ends most definitely is my number one as a Halloween fan and that's how they end this series.
I LOVED Nope. Saw it twice in theaters. The atmosphere, cinematography, sound design and story just spooked me. I found it clever and the satire biting.
RU-vid flat out loves you my guy. In 10+ years of regular RU-vid I’ve never had a channel more recommended. I tend to just let RU-vid do its thing while I’m at work and this year i think I’ve made it through your catalog like 4 times now
I LOVE nope even more than Get Out, Its my favorite horror movie of the year, but I respect your opinion because I feel like the way that nope is revealed is a taste only a group of people have. Good video!
My top 10 1. Halloween ends - my most anticipated movie as soon as i saw HK and it was a let down because Michael is barely in it, especially for the ending of a trilogy 2. Jeepers creepers: Reborn 3. Thor: love & thunder 4. Nope 5. Pinocchio 6. Jackass 4.5 7. The mean one 8. Lightyear 9. Morbius 10. Hocus pocus 2 - did like it just wish it was better
@@AliFrankTheTank true but i liked Jackass forever and then when i saw they were releasing jackass 4.5 i was looking forward to it but i didn't like it that much
I agree about the “wokeness” it’s so cringey I am over it! Its getting ludicrous like we adults can’t make up our minds about what movies are our taste or not it’s all being decided for us. It will only stop if we stop buying tickets and purchasing the dvds, music etc of this censorship. I hope there are more brave creators who will push the envelope and not be afraid of pissing people off so that we can begin to be entertained again in a grown up way lol 😂
What I hate about what Thor did (as well as Ghostbusters 2016 and Charlie's Angels 2019) is that all the men are either evil or stupid to make the female characters look better by comparison, which is literally saying "Women aren't smart and heroic enough to be compared to their male hero counterparts." So congrats, in an attempt take a massive, firehose style projectile shit on men, you end up splattering some on the people you were trying to impress.
'I think' the biggest problem with this wokeness or whatever we call it is we are starting to look for it where it is nonexistent. Undercutting a lot of great work. My other issue is we can't properly critique anything anymore without being called names. Orn "anti woke" ie racist bigot etc Personally... I have come to find if something is marketed with diversity and inclusion and not story. I'm going to avoid it. I don't care who you are or what you look like or Identify as if you give me a good story and I will praise you. Woman King is a great example of how to kill your own good project I really enjoyed that movie , it wasn't the greatest but it wasn't terrible. Viola Davis opened her mouth saying if you don't come see this movie you're basically a misogynist and racist. Really? It's unfortunate.
I heard a RU-vidr put the issue with wokeness. The writing of wokeness is too predictable, there's nothing artistic about it bc you're trying to fill a quota and not offend ppl. And that's not how art works.
@@afriendorfoe exactly! Art throughput history has always been TO offend people. To point out what’s dark and disturbing in life and shine a light on it and confront the uncomfortable.
1. Halloween Ends, 2. NOPE Them really only ones i was angry at that i wanted to happy at lol…. Thor vs Bale should’ve been way better than that parody as well so there’s 3. Black Panthers 2 & that Buzz movie i also left just like okay lol
It wasn’t a bad movie necessarily, however, it was probably the most disappointing for me personally. I actually really enjoyed Halloween 2019 and Kills and I had really high expectations for this movie. I actually hoped they would finally mop the floor with Michael, but the road to getting there was horrible for me. Again, while I still think it’s an okay movie and I can appreciate it, the timing for this type of experiment was WAAAAYYYY off.
My favorite movie of last year by far. Idc what people say. There was a guy so mad at me in the movie theater after I said I loved it. He was actually enraged. Lol.
Jeepers Creepers is a fascinating character and the new film should’ve been a prequel focusing on him. Maybe an origin story set in the Wild West? Sheriff of a small town is set to execute a ruthless gang of train robbers or some shit but he gives them a shot at freedom when townsfolk go missing and rumors spread of a monster in the woods. The sheriff hires them to hunt it down.
Personally I've never been too taken by the idea of a prequel I think it kills the mystique when we know too much about the villain and the less I know of the creeper the more unnerving he is. I'd rather they'd do a film where Trish (the sister from the first one) and Jack (Ray Wise from the sequel) team up together to end the Creeper once and for all.
@@namethestars I don't think they can do that either because whenever people talk about the franchise, it's always controversial because of the director and his crimes. Plus you're not gonna see a big studio do something like that
Same. They did something completely different than what was marketed then in the last 10 minutes just decided “let’s give everyone what they wanted but really half assed and rushed.”
The Black Phone for me. Everyone went on & on... I predicted everything that happened in that movie ten minutes before it happened. A dull, predictable slog. I won't even watch Jeepers Creepers thanks to Cody. Thanks for saving me the time!
There are so many movies that were disappointing in 22,but my top 2 most disappointing are 1.Halloween Ends and 2.Smile,I don't understand how people say Smile is one of the best, the creepiest parts were the actual smiling, and the ending! WTF was that!
I swear, I must be the only one who remembers Halloween 4. Ends makes sense to me if u factor that in. Also in original Halloween it shows a segment that makes ends high quality viewing. Now before I get into what I mean realize two things, 1 is there will be spoilers if no one has seen 4 or ends, and the second is I believe I may have understood what they were trying to do. It is my opinion. The reason I think ends works well is because I viewed it as a entity movie. Myers was the current vessel of the evil. It started when he killed his sister. Then the evil tried to jump to Jaime in part 4. The reason I bring those up is because in ends, it seems like Myers is breaking down and the evil needs a new vessel. It tried to get into new bodies but it couldn’t finish the jump because of the need for someone to be truely bad and not care. The first one which was the kid, it turned out he had remorse and did care so couldn’t convert and use him. Then it tried to get into Laurie but she was pure hearted. She wasn’t evil and has proven she cares about her loved ones. As a result it only had myers and when he got into the wood chipper at the end. Supposedly that stops myers but the evil still exists and possibly can find a new person later on. So the saga between Laurie and Myers does end, but Halloween can still go on. The question is does the studio move on without Myers or do they reboot the series again.
Personally I put Dominion over fallen kingdom because the villains in Dominion felt more like actual people with a plan to make their company, Biosin look good, and fallen kingdom's villains felt a lot like a looney tunes cartoon
Halloween Ends seemed like two different movies competing with each other. The first two thirds seemed like a cool idea to explore and take the franchise in a new direction and the last third seemed like the movie the studio wanted. An uninspired, generic ending.
Like you said, the first Uncharted game would make a perfect movie. I've been screaming that for years about Resident Evil. The first game would be an awesome movie. Why can't they make that!
I’ve been waiting for the a good resident evil that follows the first game and has a new director/actors… I don’t know why they just don’t give the people what they want
I can’t believe nobody mentions how in Samaritan Sylvester put apple juice in his cereal, with no explanation like that was normal, I wanted an explanation for that shit lol
Studio 666 has the dark shadow of Taylor Hawkins death hanging over it. And always will. I own it as a OGFoosFan and Horror purist but it is eerie. I saw it the week he died and it stings. However.... Two great things came from that movie... another great horror performance on Jenna Ortega's resume and Dave Grohl's fictional movie metal project "Dream Widow" which was surprisingly one of my top 10 fave metal albums of the year. #3 Texas Chainsaw Massacre . #2 The Munsters. #1 Jurassic World 3 -LOCUSTS WTF!!!??? The short about the camping family released a year earlier...more of that is what I expected. The set up for the movie was right there... we got LOCUSTS!!
10. Smile - still enjoyed the film but felt like they gave away the best scares in the trailer. I’m not one that jump scares normally get to me but the “car scene” jump scare would’ve totally got me if they hadn’t included it in the trailer. 9. Three Thousand Years of Longing - Again still enjoyed this movie but it dragged a little bit in the last 15 minutes. 8. Lightyear - I’m with you on this. I don’t buy this as the Buzz movie that Andy would’ve seen 30 years ago. 7. Don’t Worry Darling - Had really high expectations going in but the heavy handedness was a bit much and the direction had some issues. 6. Halloween Ends - I enjoyed the first half and the second half in a bubble but it felt like two unrelated films mashed together. Too much introduction of character in a finale. 5. Bros - As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, was super stoked for a gay rom com but unfortunately it was very forgettable and the star’s Twitter tirades after the release were super annoying. 4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre - My favorite horror franchise because of the original. I don’t know why i still get my hopes up at this point when they announce a new movie in the franchise. 3. Scream - Completely forgettable chapter in this franchise. 2. Men - Based on the trailers and first three quarters of this movie, this was one of my most anticipated movies of the year and loved the film up until the final act. Completely lost me with the final 20-30 minutes. 1. Pearl - After X came out and blew me away, i had sky high expectations for Pearl. Maybe because i had a different expectation going on (not expecting a character study) i felt so disappointed, i feel like this will probably change on future rewatches.
@Cody I hope after this video and the PTSD remembering them would of caused you the kids or wife gave you many hugs. :) Thank you for saving us all from these lemons
Personally, I disagree about Love and Thunder, I personally love that movie and have rewatched it a bunch of times. I understand why people think it is disappointing, and I agree that the movie had missed potential to be even better, but the movie is just fun for me. For me, my most disappointing movie of the year is The Gray Man. The movie had the potential to be fantastic with all of the talent, but just ended up being forgettable and generic. It’s pretty good for a one time watch, but I just forgot about it. Uncharted was also disappointing because I disliked the movie and was expecting to like it.
There is a movie on Tubi called I’m Haunted. It was so bad I had everyone watching it like the tape from The Ring. It was so bad I needed other people to know how bad it was.
Finally somebody who thinks like me . *Get Out* was great while *US* was underwhelming and I really don't get why people praise it so much. I knew the plot twist mid movie and the story was just stupid .
"Studio 666". Bought it, haven't watched it, yet. Love The Foo Fighters! "Nope". Love it! "Uncharted". Yet to see it. "Halloween 13: Halloween Ends". Love it! 3rd favorite horror series! "Jeepers Creepers 4: Jeepers Creepers Reborn". Like this series. "Samaritan". Never heard of it. "Hocus Pocus 2". Never saw it, nor the first entry. "Thor 4: Love And Thunder". Enjoy this series, but have yet to buy and watch this entry. "Jurassic Park 6, Jurassic World: Dominion". Like this series, but have yet to watch this one. "The Munsters". Own it, have yet to watch it.
I didn't dislike Hocus Pocus 2 - tho maybe it's cuz I thought it was dumb enough to circle back to charming. But since you mentioned Disney+, I was left cold by Disenchanted. That movie reminded me of Bill & Ted 3 or Superman Returns - a sequel that's in development hell for years, micromanaged to death, they settled on a script not cuz they like it but because it ticked off as few people as possible Come to think of it, that's probably how HP 2 was made.
I can't believe how terrible Dominion was. All the pieces were there, and they just make an absolute joke of a finale. What finale? There's no sense of proper resolution. It was just a boring (how do you make dinosaurs boring), overlong, stupid, inexplicably popular mess. My wife and I both hated it, and I only saw it because she wanted to.
Happy New Years Cody love your content every year never know what im going to get and im always surprised and love the content. 🎉 keep up awesome work.
Pretty good list, Cody. I agree with some of the picks on your list. Here is my list: Dishonorable Mentions ____________________________ Babylon I Wanna Dance With Somebody Emancipation The Munsters Spirited The Top 10 Worst Films of 2022 ______________________________________ 10. Amsterdam 9. Devotion 8. Medieval 7. Smile 6. Matilda the Musical 5. They/Them 4. Morbius 3. Black Adam 2. Halloween Ends 1. Jurassic World: Dominion
I have to ask as I always see that tower on the table behind you it's so familiar to me and I have no idea where it's from and everytime I watch your videos I keep racking my brain lol can you please put me out of my misery 🙏🤣
Dominion was so fucking bad. I hated Jurassic World 1 and 2 and was still shocked how poor Dominion was. If I see Chris Pratt do that dumbass hand thing to dinosaurs one more time in my life I'm gonna insane.
"You can make lady Thor a strong character without tearing down the titular character" Counterpoint, no they cant. Simply put theyre not as clever as they think they are. Corporate Hollywood is bereft of talented writers.
Ii love your channel. I loved the hellraiser series. But you won me with the jw video. I lost mybrother last year and all my siblings blame them and the funeral was a 35 minuit advertisment. It's hard to leave and you got balls bro
Couldn't agree more on Halloween Ends. I enjoyed it I really did, but just not as a send off for the trilogy. I appreciate directors taking leaps and they certainly did, but I wish they would have done it after Michael and Laurie had their final bout.
@@y3ee3e i would agree with that as i said i really did enjoy the movie, but they sold this whole trilogy on laurie and michael so i just wish thats what it was.
The menu was good, kept me intrigued the whole way through, like most movies tho I wasn’t a fan of the ending which was kind of a bummer cause I was enjoying it
Number 10 & 5 are movies that kinda surprise me that you had enough interest in to be "disappointed" - but my brain operates like a broken vending machine, so what do I know?!
Dropped comment of my own on mine by thoughts after your list are Mark Wahlberg can just drop Ted 3 and go away & Hocus Pocus 3 should happen without the witches involved lol i like that world.
I think Us is the only peel movie worth watching. Get Out, was aight, but barely a horror movie, with no replay ability And the Alien in Nope makes it impossible to take serious… fabulous cinematography tho.
My problem with Jurassic World: Dominion was the marketing. When they announced they were having the cast from Jurassic Park back reprising their roles, the handling of it was ridiculous. It went from Dominion going to be a big finale to the World trilogy and the most ambitious one in the series. Suddenly it is now the finale to the Jurassic Park saga that was started with the original film and was "always planned". This is the finale to Jurassic World and Jurassic Park and we are in for one great ending to this series. Like, even though Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom barely connected to the previous films and this return of old favorites is coming completely out of nowhere. It really feels like they had such little confidence in the story of Jurassic World that they decided to bring back the old cast and call it a sequel to Jurassic Park so they can make a buck off of nostalgia and fan service. I like nostalgia and fan service, but only when it is used to benefit the story, not to replace it due to lack of faith or ideas.
"I've got another confession to make, this films not cool, can i convince you to watch again, im no fool" - studio 666 - best of you. Love your work cody
I would like to hear more of your thoughts on Nope, especially about the logic and rules you thought were broken. It seems like maybe you didn't fully get it, considering you're calling the entity a "ship" when it very clearly was not.
Before I watch this video I have to say Nope and Halloween Ends were pretty disappointing for me, & I had much higher expectations going in to see Nope than Halloween Ends.
I wasn’t hyped to really see any of these films in the video.. but I was super hyped for Batman.. and I was incredibly disappointed.. so that’s my #1.. nice video though.
1. Thor Love and Thunder 2. Deep Water 3. Lightyear 4. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 5. Turning Red 6. Amsterdam 7. Morbius 8. Halloween Ends 9. Pinocchio (2022) 10. Disenchanted
Im not interested in Studio 666, but I think it's like a throwback/homage to stuff they used to do in the 70s, like Kiss meets the phantom of the opera, and stuff like that, not to be taken very serious and for die hard fans to enjoy it for what it was.
Dominion was so shockingly bad to me. Like I want to like parts of it but I cant. I don’t think I can name a single thing in it I like. I hate how the characters do nothing, how it just recreated what the last 5 movies have done, and how they kept introducing new dinosaurs for one scene and then never did anything with it again. I don’t need to see 40 new dinosaurs for the sake of seeing 40 new dinosaurs.
You are the first person I've heard agree with my thoughts on the ending of Hocus Pocus 2. I've been saying that basically making Winifred a whiny clown at the end was the absolute worst way to go.
For me Top 5 would be X(I don’t hate this by any means, I really do like it but I didn’t love it. It’s definitely not my favorite of the year and I thought it would be, top 5 for sure thou) Scream 5 Halloween Ends Black Adam Jeepers Creepers Reborn
I feel like halloween ends may have been better recieved if corey was allisons bf in H2018, that being said i enjoy H Ends and what they were going for but i totally understand why people dont like it.
I only like Halloween 3 but even I thought ends was dumb but my most disappointment movie would be jeepers creepers I was looking forward to a reboot and the only thing this movie did was make part 3 look like a masterpiece
