Amanda. In the UK, as you have probably guessed we don't see public safety adverts or information films as a way to educate. We have perfected it into an art form... an art form to scare the living shit out of you... Works though.
You’re one of the best reactors. You don’t talk over the videos or stop them every 5 seconds to go off on a tangent, or make inane comments. Perfect reactions. ❤️❤️
Not really. She tries way too hard to stay in her role as a RU-vidr and professional. She doesn't show any emotions, doesn't say anything deep or with much meaning or content between the ads... But yes, staying quiet during the ads is definitely a plus
There's one advert that didn't make this list that always stays with me. It's from the early 2000s and starts off with a little girl slumped against a tree... Dead. Her voice narrates the footage and says "if you hit me at 40, there's and 80% chance I'll die". Then her body is dragged along the pavement, as if time is rewinding. As her body stops, she says "if you hit me at 30, there's an 80% chance I'll live" and she gasps for air and wakes up. That's the end of the advert. Obviously for speed awareness, and I was in high school when I first saw it but it should definitely be counted as one of those effective events in my opinion
I’ll never forget that, or the one where the man sees the little boy he hit everywhere he looks - even under his desk. I’m 24 now, not sure when it was aired but I’ll never forget it.
I remember my dad telling me of a Christmas advert where a family comes home one evening, during a very cold and snowy/icy winter night, to see a homeless child infront of their house. They invite the child inside, have a beautiful Christmas dinner, and open presents together. Then, the camera pulls out from the window of the house to where we see that same kid frozen and lifeless. We were shown what kindness can do, and what ignorance or heartlessness can lead to. I can't remember what the advert was for, but even my dad's description of it remains in my mind to this day. We need adverts like these to remind us of reality. I don't want people to be depressed and constantly heartbroken, but sometimes we just need a reminder. Love conquers all, but only when we remember what to care for and fight for.
I think Emma Thomson's "advert" to be the most disturbing, actually brings a tear to the eye.....you forget she's acting, and perhaps, given she is an acting superstar, nobody else could actually play that part.
I'm a recently retired member of St John Ambulance. I honestly wish more people knew first aid. Go along to your nearest St John unit and ask. Become a member. It's very rewarding. And yes it can be heart breaking occasionally, most of the time it's just fun, and at the same time you really do learn a life skill. After 27 years as a member, even though I've now been retired four years, I can still remember how to do all my basic and emergency first aid.
The last two really were the most powerful I have ever seen. Watch the last 10 minutes of the last episode of Blackadder Goes Forth and you'll feel a shock too
Maybe the British advertisers should make an advertisement about guns in America and the children killed by them that may shock a few people into thinking differently in the us
Is that the one with the boy floating just below the surface? That video still haunts me from watching it at primary school in the mid eighties, that and the one with the boy with the frisbee trying to retrieve it from a pylon
I think these should be shown all over the world to make people sit up and listen that way Maybe things would change hard to watch but definitely get the message across x
I felt what you were feeling I love your reaction videos because you couldn't be more authentic than you are, you really know how to genuinely convey what you feel and that look on your face after each advert was so powerful. You clearly have a strong and big heart Amanda I love what you do keep going because you're incredible! :) You will always have my support I hope your channel continues to grow and thrive! Both you and your channels are of the highest quality!
@@LADYRAEUK No, thank you! Your channels are a source of joy in my life I always look forward to a new video from you and you have made me smile and laugh even on days when I've not been in the mood to laugh :)
Having lived in many countries including the USA the UK adverts still always stand out as such a different style of communicating information. there was only one Think! advert in that you should do a whole group of them since the 1980's until present. They scare the ever-living S out of any of my friends i show over here. Ans even years later still positively affect how i drive. as always keep making such good videos
That grim reaper one and the children near water always got me and still does and im 53 now. Maybe after all the deaths we have just had with the heatwave its time to start showing it again. It was called Lonely Water
Bloody Hell, that was an intense 18 minutes of my life. Not bad or wasted or regretted - but hella intense. I'm not sure whether or not to say thank you. I think I'm going to get a large glass of wine and just stare at the wall while I process it.
Hi Amanda. You should definitely do the best Christmas adverts. It’s always huge competition between the biggest stores as to who’s is the best (John Lewis is the one every waits for). Must admit McDonald’s was my no.1 last year. They are sweet and very feel good. Great work btw, love what you do 👍🏻
Hiya Amanda....ALL these “adverts” were powerful and I really mean POWERFUL... exactly what was intended to get people’s attention. The expression on your face mirrored mine exactly. Powerful stuff indeed......on a side note all the actors involved deserve an Oscar as their acting skills are incredible and those that may of been acting out their real life story deserve two Oscars......WOW tough stuff but needs to be seen and not ignored I’m afraid 😟
Notice there old and not relevant now it's poor me shit nowadays and oh worlds ending as of fossil coal and oil let's all go vegan and eat the trees lmao oh what about the animals that will die fish food but who eats fish pedantic
I remember a drink driving advert where a car flips, rolls and crashes through a family garden, taking them out. Was a very graphic advert. Was extremely well done.
Powerful adverts indeed! I watched them at the worse time as well, just before going to bed, and regretting it now lol. Some were hard to stomach, though I remember many of those ads from before! Hope you're well Amanda!
I very rarely if ever watch reaction videos but I have really enjoyed the ones of yours I have seen so far. I think you would love the old John Smith's beer adverts with Peter Kay, absolutely fantastic adverts.
Good evening Amanda, your most powerful RU-vid video to-date, they adverts all packed one hell of a punch, I'm speechless, I think your next RU-vid video should be comedy so we can hear your infectious laugh 👍
As a Brit who watches way too much tv I have only actually seen two of these on tv. The Barnado's 'History Repeating' ad and the Red Cross 'Crisis' ad. All powerful stuff. It's a shame governments aren't as generous as regular folk in support of overcomng these problems
My reactions to these were exactly the same as yours, I'm from Northern Ireland and there are similar adverts . They are visual stories that go beyond the words don't drink and drive, don't speed and be safe on the road. These adverts have a beginning, middle and literally an end. I absolutely guarantee that you will be speechless and never forget them the images speak millions of words. They are hard to view but clearly put the message across.
Hi Amanda,we are lucky to have you. Those adverts were quite hard hitting and designed to get to you. The cancer and motorbike crash adds made me tear up as I’m in remission and recovering from a bike collision with a truck,I was lucky to only suffer fractured fingers and wrists could have been so much worse. Keep up the great vids.x.
There was even a musical written about the founding of Barnardos "streets of London". It's about Doctor Barnado who saw the suffering of children living as orphans in the streets of 19th century london and decided something needed to be done.
I remember growing up and they were all about people dumping fridges , which back in them days had handle locks on them and kids were climbing in them and getting locked in, and suffocating to death
brings tears to my eyes ..we all think some of these thoughts at times but are able to contain them and overlook...for those that can't .. it must be horrendous..made me volunteer for the sally ann once a week...partly due to the fact that they helped me when i had a house fire/rented and they gave me shelter... a crisis.. i'm not religious but god bless.... and took an emergency first aid st john ambulance course
Wow I've seen those adverts before but watching how emotional you became to them Amanda really made me choke up.... Cmon people let's give Amanda something fun to watch for her next reactions
The actress who did "I'm a crisis" did such a good job, especially on the "and I don't care who you are" bit, the sheer evil she put into that is amazing.
A very brave and timely post Amanda, this is the world that Mrs C and I have inhabited for 90 years between us, literally just retired now...settled down to watch the Hairy Bikers on telly with a glass of vino...keep well and safe..best ....E
My parents friends from the army in Singapore where I was born was called Ginger, the locals thought that I was her son, because of my red hair. Even though she has passed away from Motor Neuroin. It really hits a chord when somebody you've known since birth passes away she was like another to me . She was in the bed continuing until her passed away. God rest her soul .
Most of these adverts wouldn't be made today because they might offend someone. The world's gone mad. These adverts are brilliant for opening people's eyes to things they don't want too see.
@christopherhorner-ox4xn Says someone that doesn't agree with me and completely wasted their time and mine with such a un thought provoking gem of an argument. The local debating society certainly won't miss your pearls of wisdom.
Films which give loads of facts and information are all well and good, but I think a lot of people, more than most of us would like to admit, have a tendancy to become numb to facts and figures. But a visual and quite graphic set of images etc. will drive the point home very effectively
we are bombarded daily with information and data of all kinds. these ads bring it to a personal/human level and make it relatable.... they bring in the "What if..." or "That could be me" sort of feelings.
The Emma Thompson advert was incredibly hard hitting, but the one's that really get to me are the one's involving kids, who are stuck in a world were their lives are controlled by adults, wether it be abuse or war, really does fucking kill me, and I'm not ashamed of admitting really makes me tear up.
Amanda. I really don't know how you had,the mental strength (especially being a parent),to watch and post these. I can honestly Say, from the 1st to the end I was shocked and sobbing my eyes out. Thanks. Any chance of something that will get me laughing??.Having a a bad mental health day 😕x
I've been watching American people's reactions to this collection of the UK's hardest hitting public service ads, and of course, like any sane and decent human being, we're all outraged that stuff like this can still be happening in the 21st century, but I just want to give a massive shout out to all those wonderful actors who made these videos so real and powerful. They're all incredible. 🙋♂
Harrowing, all of them. There used to be a first aide programme on tv here in the uk. I was a young mum, and watched a few episodes. Thank god I did, I managed to stop my two year old daughter choking/suffocating. The most frightening experience of my life, but thanks to that programme, she was ok. First aide should be taught in all schools.
Such a brilliant reaction video. Didn't unnecessarily talk inbetween the videos, you paused it at the end of each vid, really well done. Quality reaction.
I grew up in the 90s, and if there were one PSA that I’d say shocked me the most, it was “Julie knew her killer”. Watching it now it’s not entirely graphic, but the shock of how it plays out hit me so back as a kid that I literally got into a habit of getting up and walking out the room the second the ad started. But damn straight did it hammer it’s message home.
I've watched so many "American reacts" videos of these adverts. Its the number 1 ad "If London were Syria" that always gets me. Every time. You know there is a longer version of that advert. This may sound wrong but because I've seen it so many times, the boy thudding to the ground in the "tree" advert just has me howling with laughter now. Its the thud that gets me and yes maybe insensitive but I have seen it like 30+ times so I'm more used to it and it just looks hilarious!!. If you still think thats wrong then get a life. Make things funny from a bad situation and you'll have a happier life!
I see a number of people from the U.K. saying they have not seen most/any of these before. I am English and there was only 1 that I didn’t remember seeing before.
I have only seen two of these before and the rest were truly shocking and certainly make you think!, even i had a lump in my throat after watching these and they certainly get the point across!
I'm so glad that the 'advert' that you'd seen before had an effect on you. Please publish how much money you sent to the relevant charity having seen it the first time and how much you pledged having seen it again. :) You have a great delivery!
Motor Neurone Disease is known as ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and is often called Lou Gehrig's disease, after the baseball player who was diagnosed with it.
@@LADYRAEUK I only know about this disease through the people that I volunteer with, for my local branch Motor Neurone Disease Association. Amazing volunteers who are always raising awareness and funds to support those affected by Motor Neurone Disease.
@@LADYRAEUK quick suggestion, Frankie goes to Hollywood ...Two tribes has a brief UK Government information segment about what to do in a nuclear war...scary...maybe look again at fav UK/USA bands...cheers /slainte....E
As hard as these are to watch I much prefer them to standard adverts, these are designed to make you think about the most important things. It makes you greatful for what you've got and opens your mind to the awful things people have to go through
Thanks for making this video. I remember seeing some of these adverts on TV several years back, and they are just as effective now as they were then. Some adverts could only be shown after 9pm, this is what's called the Watershed in the UK. No swearing, extreme violence or nudity can be shown before 9pm, and young children should be asleep so as to be unable to view any adult content shown after 9pm. Great video 👍
I think with the advent and popularity of RU-vid amongst other similar sites, the Watershed is kind of pointless now. Barely any kids watch traditional TV any more according to official figures, if any children watch say BBC or ITV, it's usually via the catch up apps or as I said at the start, RU-vid.
the THINK adds are from the office of the government that used to do ads during the world wars.. i forget its name... something to do with inland communications
I found the Motor Neurone Disease advert REALLY uncomfortable. My father have when he passed away in 2000. When my father was first diagnosed with it. My mother noticed a rash. Asked the doctor about. He had a look and got a second doctor to see if they agree. They didn't tell my parents what it was until after test were carried out and confirmed it. Within 6 months my father had passed away.
Hey Amanda, for Motor Neurone Disease just think Stephen Hawking. His started in University, up until then he was a "regular" able bodied person and look at how he was by the time he died
