I know it's dumb, but when I was younger I favored using aurora beam over ice beam because it had a prettier attack animation despite ice beam being way stronger 😭
Okay, it's through extremely convoluted means, but dewgong can learn aqua jet, ice shard, and curse. It's the ONLY ice/water type that can have the first two of those moves in the same movepool, let alone ALL THREE. you can also run ice body+leftovers for solid hp regen. It's by no means the most overpowered thing, but I have never seen ANYONE else bring this up. I have this Dewgong in Ultra sun, and I still love going back to use it.
Good for you! I firmly believe Dewgong needs more love! I originally thought it could get a Regional Variant as the first Ice/Poison-based on a seal being contaminated by an oil spill-but I think that’s both unlikely and WAY too grim.
Also, also...you can evolve Crabrawler as soon as you pass by Mt. Lanakila by what I think is the halfway point of Alola. You don’t have to wait until you are going up to the league
I really don’t understand Gamefreak’s design philosophy in their attempts to make Ice type tanks when it just never works. Just look what happens when the did the exact opposite with Weavile and Chein- Pao. Great list btw, Mystic.
I think the top 10 underrated ice type Pokemon are 10, Articuno 9, Glaceon 8, Avalug 7, Glactier 6, Vanilluxe 5, Jynx 4, Frosmoth 3, Articvish 2, Mr Rime 1, Crabomable and do either Dragon or Fire type next.
I think I just had an idea for an extra special, new, extremely rare Pokemon type (perhaps near extinct)... "Diamond-Type", also known as the Iridescent=Sparkle type sometimes. This should be (in theory) one of the strongest types based mainly on defence but with good attack as well, its only major weakness being Ice (which it's often mistaken for) and perhaps vulnerable to Fairy & Ghost types as well. Also, Pokemon who naturally have this typing are supposed to be really nice yet tough looking and often quite pretty looking. They're perhaps almost always shiny. (I'm not sure why I had this idea, which is possibly a bad one, but I thought it could be a fun concept, and I'm sure people can figure out how to improve and add to this).
I heard they took away the chip damage with Snowscape because people didn’t want to use Hail because it basically stuck you with an Ice type team. I don’t understand why they couldn’t have both the boost + chip damage, + maybe just make Water types immune + add abilities like Slush Rush + maybe a new Sand Force or Solar Power like ability to some non-Ice types And maybe give Ice ground and water resistances
Some lose speed due to design and lore wise kingambit is a leader which means he no longer needs to attack he sends his minions to attack for him Mr.Rime honestly am not sure make cause he gains weight and is a mime that is strange to me as well he ice skates in the anime so he should be faster
Typings like Bug or Grass not being resisted by Ice always came off as a development oversight. In a realistic sense Ice should resist Bug because during the winter season you don't really see Bug activity due to the cold climate. just like how grass and plant life shrivel during winters. The same goes with flying. If anything these three types should be the ones Ice resist since it makes sense from a realistic perspective.
Like to say enough things already resist Grass, why are we throwing another one in there. To be fair, Steel, Poison, Fire, Bug, Flying all resist grass, thats already fucking enough. Be more happy to see Grass types get a buff besides being immune to grass status moves.
More love!? I love all Ice types. All of them. All, of, them (Looking to you Eiscue)! 🥇Kantonian Articuno (And Overall favourite)! 🥈Alolan Ninetales, Glaceon & Chien-Pao; 🥉Abomasnow, Aurorus & Crabominable; 4 - Cloyster.
I always use Articuno as a utility mon, one of my favorites! I remember watching an episode of the show a trainer had one, I thought it was so cool it knew water pulse
Glaceon was my first real Shiny catch, and I didnt have one until Scarlet, despite playing every gen. I would have been mad to get a sorta boring shiny, but it actually ran up to me. pokefans, the shiny chose me. how could I not love Glaceon, instantly into my top 20 or so. theres no bad eeveloution, except vaporeon, theyre situational, but had to write out this love letter to Glaceon
Resisting grass would totally be a nerf to grass. Grass already has tons of weaknesses and types that resist it. Ice should resist fairy, because fairy needs a nerf
Poor Glaceon. I love the eeveelutions, but I wouldn't say that Glaceon is the worst. That title imo goes to my previous favorite. Espeon. Espeon isn't useful, Sylveon has the same movepool. Sylveon is slower, but is so much more tanky and hits almost as hard at 110 special vs 130 special. Sylveon also gets stab on Moonblast. My new favorite eeveelution is Leafeon. Meh typing, but 95 base speed and 110 base attack with a diverse movepool. And Leaf stone instead of friendship. (I'm probably about to get my ass roasted by a competitive snob but oh well. Bring it.)
I actually like Crabominable and thankfully don't have to get annoyed about it taking forever to evolve with it's new evolution condition, I also like Frosmoth and think it's beautiful.
People say all Ice type moves should be super effective on water, and one person even said Fire should just do normal damage on ice instead of being super effective. I don't agree with the Fire part but the all water types being weak to ice, could be a problem for some already powerful Water PokeMon. It would give PokeMon such as Swampert, Ludicolo, Gyarados, Dracovish, and other Water/Ground, Water/Grass, Water/Flying, and Water/Dragon types, a 4x weakness. That would mean Water/Ground PokeMon such as Swampert, Quagsire, Whiscash, Gastrodon, and Seismitoad (PokeMon that only have 1 weakness which is a 4x weakness) would all gain another 4x weakness nerfing them. Yes I know they can each learn Rock and Fighting moves to cover the Ice weakness (like how you can teach a Water/Ground PokeMon Ice Beam for the Grass weakness), but it would still be a pain. Ludicolo would as least have only 1 4x weakness and Ludicolo can learn Fire Punch and Drain Punch to give Ice types a run for their money. Water/Flying PokeMon like Cramorant and Pelipper can learn Steel Wing to take cover that Ice weakness while Gyarados can learn Iron Head and Flamethrower. Lastly Kingdra and Dracovish could at least learn Iron Head
Honestly, another reason why ice isn't super effective against water that I feel like a lot of people forget is that changing that to be the way it works by default would effectively make the move freeze dry pointless, seeing as it already covers that niche
I had Arctovish on one of my teams and I felt so sorry for it. It looked liked a blob fish and was one of those that looked like it was screaming internally. Still one hell of a mon in game.
Great video! Ice needs resistances to Flying, Water & Dragon Types with an immunity to Ice itself. I would recommend resistances to Bug & Grass Types as well, but that would be overkill. How Game Freak only gave one of the strongest nature elements one resistance is beyond any logical reasoning. Ice is just as strong as Fire. The resistances should reflect that.
I always use Beartic when possible, and this bear is a complete beast in Scarlet and Violet, the game is practically made so Beartic specifically is amazing. And boy the DLC is mainly double battles and has Alolan Ninetales available, this guy absolutely dominates that game.
Articuno in hail (or now it would be Snow) isn’t bad. 100% accurate blizzards, & it gets the evasion boost if it has Snow Cloak. Add hurricane with that, it’s got 2 amazing STAB moves. Despite its stats, it’s better to run it offensively than defensively. I usually run with choice scarf.
I once ran a mono ice team and arctovish was the centerpiece monster. Slush Rush focus band fishious rend destroyed everything lol. Tons of fun and im an Arctovish fan now
I still belive ice should resist water and/or electric. While i don't think it should be too bulky of a type just resisting itself while having tons of weaknesses feels kinda unfair (yes i am aware of how powerful it is as an offensive type).
I love Aurorus despite its massive weaknesses. My aurorus is my electric coverage together with avalanche and ancient power atm. Its slow so avalanche almost always hits mega hard. Its very useful against many of the flying types present in X and Y. I was really lacking some electric coverage and it having access to Thunder wave and thunderbolt was a nice bonus for me
I really like Avalugg thanks to XYZ anime and absolutely want to put it in my gen 6 team. If only its special defense is higher then it would be my most favorite ice type mon.
Flareon was my original favorite eeveelution but umbreon took his place for me. But still a top 3. Lol I think leafeon and glaceon both are interchangeably in that second or third spot lol
I actually used an Aurorus in my Pokémon X play-through. I'll agree it's pretty frail and slow, but I still had fun using it. It helped that the Quick Claw I gave it helped speed it up so it could deal with more Pokémon than it probably normally would.
I am an ice type lover and I couldn't agree more with Crabominable, Arctovish and Frosmoth on your list. I love using these in my SD Mono ice team. They always take my opponents by surprise.
Ice pokemon just need their resistances and weaknesses changed a little. It should be resistant to at least water and maybe grass too. And i would take away the weakness from rock types. I bever really got that. Is it because rocks are harder than ice?
