Cassette tapes?? Valuable? Yes! Some are. I love cassettes...and have been collecting them for many years. Here's a few that sell for amounts that might surprise you.
Awesome video! Love the view of the collection! Also, THANK YOU for providing information that so many resellers will want to be paid for giving. I just sold a sealed Kenny Chesney Cassette for $14.99 shipped and I thought I did good.
Hello Micheal, I love your videos. I have been collecting tapes since 2017, but it was worth it. Awesome collection and I wish you the best for the rest of your day.
Wow, what a fantastic collection of cassettes you have collected. I also love the cassette format and have quite a few, but nowhere near as many as you. great video. I have subscribed.
Interesting video. I have picked up so many tapes in the last few years- some of the jazz tapes and Aussie bands are around £28 - £35 on Discogs but i have lots of ones picked up at charity shops. Also a lot of sealed blank tapes. Nice to see record stores selling some again as well. " Keep On Collecting".
I remember a few years ago my father was working at a house in Yucaipa,California. The owner had moved out and there were some stuff left. In I think the attic, there was a box full of a ton of cassettes. My dad volunteered to take it home and he gave them to me. Inside the box of cassettes I found 2 very strange cassettes, one blank and the other one titled: JOHN LONGLEY From: San Bernardino, Ca AT: MENTONE SPEAKERS MEETING 8-20-88. I still have yet to listen to it as I'm trying to get a cassette player to listen to them EDIT: I counted them today and there is 103 cassettes in a aerosol can box
Great video!! I still have my cassette collection as well. I lost count when I got over 1000 of them. Nice to know that some are worth some money. Keep up the great work. 😎
Weren’t we JUST talking about severed heads? Haha hold on a second here. Damn, i had no idea you had such a wild cassette collection. I love this so much.
Love your collection! Would love to showcase mine like you have yours. I have around 300 cassettes, most of which I unfortunately paid full price for when they were released! But I'm glad I did because I would listen to them over and over and they hold so many great memories for me now. They were my first introduction to songs you didn't hear on the radio. And so many of them I would think: "Why isn't this on the radio?"
@@MichaelPilmer I also have 8 tracks and it's a Tex-Mex group called grupo Mazz and I have the LP also that's called the look of Mazz and it was hard to find in LP or 8-track and the 3 cassettes of the Monkees and other things I used to record on cassettes.
Hi, this is the first I’ve seen of your videos. I really enjoyed this and it was so cool to see the variety of crazy stuff you have found. I’m not surprised about the values of them. Far too many people can’t get beyond thinking that “a cassette is only 50-cents worth of plastic,.” Luckily some of us know it’s the analog audio That is part of the value of the cassette, but also the total presentation of it... from flashy graphics, well-designed packaging, or just some really funky simple packaging: some of them are just so plain and simple, with the Xerox labels of black ink on white, probably printed late at night in a Kinko’s. I used to produce free indie movie nights and we’d print posters at a big 24-hour printing place in a college town. We would come in after midnight and bring the workers a few good coffee drinks. In exchange they would give us a few hundred dollars worth of printing for free, oh hell yeah! What I like about some of your tapes that are very plain artwork and probably noisy irritating music, is that they almost look like a ‘zine in cassette form. By the way, curious if you were a collector of indie zine magazines back in the 80s or 90s? There were some of them that included a cassette tape every month. And then there was one that came with a free CD, I think it was called “cool beans”. Getting back to you and your most admirable collecting of offbeat, rare cassette tapes: I’m curious if you collect “incredibly strange music”, you probably know that genre. There are a few really great books about that type of music. I collect a lot of that on vinyl, I have collected since the early 80s. I was collecting bossa nova & tiki lounge music easily 20 years before anyone realized how cool it was. Perhaps you know of ambient music, geniuses like Brian Eno? His most famous recording is “music for airports”. And then there are records like the moog records, theremin records , hypnotic mood music by the greats like Korla Pandit, Yma Sumac... I think that genre is collected probably a lot more on vinyl than it is on cassettes. Sometimes the music is just OK but the album cover art is out of this world! If nothing else I hope you will check out the amazing music of Esquivel and Martin Denny. And finally, I am a part-time eBay seller and never really paid attention to cassettes much until just yesterday. At a big thrift store I saw that the cassettes were 10-cents each, so I did about an hour of crate digging I and found some real gems. Obscure unknown surf band, a few really bizarre Christian country cassettes from the early 70s, and one of them was a very rare Tijuana Brass cassette worth $28-$58 ! Not bad for 10 cents!!
Glad to hear from someone else who loves cassettes. Yes I have some Eno and other ambient/strange listening. Love that stuff....Just found Ima Sumac on CD a few days ago for 50 cents at a local thrift. I love the album she released where she covers rock music songs. And yes, I have a great collection of old 80s zines, somewhere in my attic...but not the ones you mentioned. I think I only came across one or two of the cassette zine style mags..but can't remember the details. Anyway, thanks a ton for watching my videos!
Holy sh*t! I am so jealous! I used to collect cassettes before moving on to digital. Now that collecting cassette Walkman bite me again, I have very few cassettes to play on them😔
Mi hermano te felicitó por tú colección de cassettes y la manera en que los tienes en el mueble, cuidalos con tú alma, y tambien he visto tus otros vídeos, un abrazó desde Cd Neza, Estado de México....
Some of the rarest cassette tapes I've seen on the market are the original Daniel Johnston Cassettes. They're so rare because he would hand make and package each and every one of them. They go for around 200 dollars each (depending on the album).
Tapes will be around for some time. The retro market is well alive. I got back into it for the nostalgia and unique experience. Got another piece of history. A walkman.
Seen this video here is bringing back a pretty good memory, that's for sure. Now this is probably going back early 80 sometime and when I was only in the 6th grade. I got three things for my birthday that day. 1. Was a Walkman, 2. Iron maiden somewhere in Time cassette tape and 3. Two packs of AA batteries for my Walkman cassette tape player. I've gotten more than that but these were like the main things. A lot of the other kids in school were surprised that my parents got me something like that, they weren't shocked about the cassette player tape. They were more shocked about the iron maiden somewhere in Time because a tape. But it was all good.
Hi Michael. Very interesting, you've got me wanting to dig through my old boxes and pull out my DEVO cassettes. I've got some Are We Not and Duty Now... cassettes from the UK and some other mainland European territories that I've not played in decades. I've also got a few of those long pack things, the ones where the cassette was inside a nice presentation box, I think it's Baby Doll or Disco Dancer, can't remember what territory though. There's also a few weird ones that are around Freedom of Choice but have got some odd mixed track lists, I don't think these are official releases and maybe some kind of bootlegs, if I remember correctly one of these was from Saudi Arabia. If there's anything interesting in there I'll let you know once I find them. Cheers, Dave.
As a collector i love collecting Tapes you should look out for the tapes from the uk Hits and pics sets there on a big card you get a tape and book together just like the spudnick cassette you have i have the mel and kim and five star versions may not be up your street but both made fab pop music SAM fox and spandu had a set also ..
Wow super nice collection! Curious if you have any of those concert fan club cassette tapes that used to show up at independent record & tapes stores??
These are some really cool tapes. All of the cassettes I'm after are incredibly rare and not for sale. Generally stuff like the early Beck or Smog or Modest Mouse cassettes. It would be amazing to find them. Keep the cassettes coming !.
I might have a lot of interesting cassettes you would want - I listen to a lot of early 90s rock music and obscure music and while working for a moving/junk removal company I was gifted hundreds of cassettes and CDs Including cassettes from NME new musical express the brat packs which feature early Beck, Radiohead and Artists I’ve never heard of like the seahorses death in Vegas, Bentley rhythm ace, prodigy ect there are so many idk what to do with them
I have a grandpa musician who made a cassette album in the 1990s, but he only sold them in one place, and that's what makes them rare and hard to find the album is called "Marlon House and the bow valley raiders I wanna be with you" and he's not a well known artist so his cassette albums are rare and its not listed online nothing on Google to
Flaunt It by Sigue Sigue Sputnik was pure, sexual escapism for the teenage mind. No wonder the cover read "Do not play if accompanied by an adult". It was a big favourite with friends at high school in 1986 on cassette. I bought a copy of it in 1988 on CD, which I still have (with a small amount of disc rot but still playable). Amazing that it really was a digital recording as stated at the end.
I have that Break-Master tape. I'm not positive, but I think it came with a poster of the New York City Breakers. As I used to have the poster hanging in my bedroom when I was in my early teens.
For me the cassettes are close to the master audio tape, but the best one is when they made in Cromo, this one sounds much better that Lp Or Cd, nice collection
I just bought a GE Cassette player. It's not great but it was in box for $3. I kept very few of my tapes, but recorded a lot of rare punk over 10 years ago off a community radio station. Have the breakmaster on LP. My best is a tape of Art Alexakis in a band before he was in Everclear. Jammed and left a warped spot.
Woah, it looks like you know what you're talking about. I have one tape in my collection that I feel like it might be valuable but I never knew who to ask. I have a japanese, sealed Bach from Deutsche Grammophon. If this sounds interesting, I have made a very short little video about it, showing it from all sides. I'd love to hear an opinion on that one. I couldn't find any info on that one or even a picture of it.

I got a boombox which is a cassette player and radio. But it was in a wood shop that is also used as shed so the player doesn't work. So i have to get a jensen cassette player which i have heard from a review it is good but it is a newer player so i heard they are bad
i have a couple of copies of Volcanic rock by australian hard rock band Buffalo on the vertigo label, the vinyl goes for quite a lot ,got 2 of those as well , but i rekon the tapes may be worth a bit
I’ve been really into cassettes lately. I recently just sold a cassette for $150 on ebay. It was a limited 300 ever made. “Juice Wrld - Wrld on drugs” I got it from Newbury comics. With that I also bought twenty one pilots visceral and futures the wizrd. Those are worth over 100 aswell :)
I’m seriously thinking about becoming a cassette collector. I was a CD collector up until 2 weeks ago and decided to shift to vinyl but I’m finding it way too expensive and it doesn’t bring me much joy tbh. I like the look of cassettes, I’m mainly into 90s music so it won’t be a problem collecting. What do you think? Should I do this??? Any tips and advice
I did this. I inadvertantly found a few dirt cheap good titles at a garage sale a few years ago in London a few years ago which ignited a slight interest in the format I thought was dead. Nowdays however they’ve become more expensive than I thought. Sellers know the value of the ones that are in demand. Another problem is superfans of bands want to own a copy of an album in all format as ornaments which also pushes up prices
Plus cassettes sound really nice on either high or low volume on a good deck. Get into it, theyre fun. You can sometimes find bulk deals really cheap. Iv got vinyl, cd, cassette and mini disk and its fun just picking any media anytime and hearing the difference. Its a tactile thing. Noveltys are very underrated.
I have stupid rare cassettes. I have uncut studio copies of beastie boys before their first album release and they are self verifiable. Some of the lyrics and song lengths are different than the official release. No idea what they are worth that, and a trove of japanese first prints from multiple artists. quadraphonic pink Floyds, and rolling stones. All near mint too.
@Michael Pilmer Memphis underground is basically like underground rap and the artist back in the 90s used to put their tracks on disc and cassettes and I was wondering if you could’ve had any because they’re so rare it’s hard to find any.
I just got back to collecting cassettes again just last year. I never realized how much better they sound.I have so many now and are addicted. I got a few last week and just alot a brand new copy of Jesus Christ Superstar on one tape from the 90's which sounds great.
Hi, Jimmy! I could give them a home. Email me! You can find my email on the "About" page of my RU-vid channel. I think you click where it says "for business inquiries" or something like that.
