I like the whole trilogy. Even as I watched the first one for the first time, though, a slight lack of tension stood out. The bulletproof confidence level of Danny & Rusty, for starters, told us the plan wasn't going to fail despite everything that goes wrong.
@alm2187
@alm2187 2 года назад
Subjectivity is the primary problem persistently plaguing people, @@arunkeshavadas7171. But criticizing art & entertainment turns out to be a pretty good playground for us to explore the matter. I give the film x stars out of y. (Or maybe I give it a perfect y!) Doesn't matter if the next guy rates it negative y. He gets a vote. I get a vote. You get a vote. That's three down and maybe billions to go depending on how well-publicized the film is. You need two eyes and/or two ears for depth perception. You need multiple angles on an object before you really know its shape. You don't need multiple opinions on one film. If any one opinion has value, though, they ALL have value! So, if Finnegan here tells us more, I hope we DO hear him out! 😎
@ProudPapa26

Ocean’s deserves to be on the list much more than Inception. Impressive CGI wasn’t enough to compensate for a weak story.
@takoshihitsamaru4675
@takoshihitsamaru4675 2 года назад
@@ProudPapa26 Conceptually, I believe Inception earns its spot. This is if we're boiling down Nolan's epic to having only 1 primary reason for its place on this list. If we're not, then I urge you to consider the acting, the score, the filmography, the lighting, the pacing, the attention to detail, and the overall atmosphere. I can understand people calling Nolan pretentious, but calling his movies bad? I just don't get it.

It was so groundbreaking and first of its kind that real-life bank robbers actually studied the film in order to learn how to rob banks and so on. *_How to Steal A Million_* is an adorable 1966 heist movie starring Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole and I have no idea where it would fall on this list. It's more of a screwball romantic comedy with a heist at the center of it. The heist itself is SO simple and low-tech (literally it's hiding in a supply closet and using a boomerang toy to trip the noisy alarm enough times for people to get fed up with it and turn it off.) But the inter-personal plot is actually REALLY overly complicated in the best way. Audrey's character is an heiress who comes from a line of what are thought to be art collectors but are really art forgers, her eccentric father especially has a problem because new developments in authentication would bust him if he didn't stop. Her father makes the mistake of lending out a beloved ancient statue to a museum that was really a forgery done by Audrey's grandfather, and Audrey has to get it back before it's found to be fake and her father goes to jail. O'Toole's character later breaks into her house to examine one of the paintings on her wall and Audrey accidentally shoots him thinking he's a thief (typical meet-cute). She later commissions the thief to help her steal the sculpture before the Authenticator can get to it, and he reluctantly but cheekily agrees. They start to fall for each other in typical screwball way of O'Toole messing with her and her going "you are NOT taking this seriously" it's adorable. There's some other subplot stuff about a Fiencé who wants to own the sculpture similar to how he wasn't to own Audrey, but that's not super important. It's later revealed that O'Toole was the Art Authenticator all along and not actually a professional thief, but saved Audrey's bacon anyway and scares her dad straight. All because he fell for her. It's ridiculous and adorable and charming. And gives you Juuuuust enough heist hijinks to scratch that itch if you're looking for it. Also, Thank you for mentioning how underrated Sneakers is.

For sure. From Rene Russo's weird and unexplained green breakfast smoothie to the idiosyncratic improvised music that keeps coming back, this movie really has a special place in my heart. Feels like the poster child of a great movie era, with siblings such as Heat and The Game. Even the romance/attract-resist/thief-detective/let's-leave-our-old-lives-behind-together interplay was done without leaning on too many movie tropes (although the romantically disillusioned woman after misreading a platonic situation for a romantic done was a cliché, but it was made more relatable and understandable from her revealed background).

I love The Old Man and the Gun for the way it really isn't about the heist, the heist just stands in for something you're passionate about but really can't do anymore. An addiction that's just too fun to quit. Add Robert Redford who gives one fantastic final performance and David Lowery who knows exactly how to direct anything to give it just the right tone and you've got a great overlooked film.

Topkapi 1964. In both your original Top Heist Movies and this one Topkapi was never mentioned and it is one of the best, funniest and most stylish of all the heist movies. It's the European Ocean's 11. Christopher Nolan ties with himself for #4, the "Temporal Pincer Maneuver" from Tenet is equally (If not more) bonkers than the "Dream Heist" in inception.

I would consider at least half of Tenet to be a heist film. Part of why I loved it so much.

You do such impressive lists with classic and rarely seen films. Can we ever get a list of Cinefix top ten Guilty Pleasure films? Very interested to see what that would look like.

There should be a category or a special mention for Jodie Foster's "Panic Room". It was an amazing thrill ride :)

I feel like The Haiden Heist (2009) deserves a mention. Whilst it's a simple movie overall, there's a charm to having 3 elderly men planning a heist, driven by love for art the pieces they don't want to say goodbye to. Morgan Freeman, William H Macy and Christopher Walken, are a very entertaining trio to watch fumble around.
