This list is pathetically stupid. 8 of the "endings" weren't even a permanent end to the world, life, humans, or even the USA. The best part is 3 ACTUAL ENDS OF PLANET EARTH got put into honorable mentions. Who writes this shit? In Titan A.E and hitchhikers guide to the galaxy the aliens erased the entire planet which is probably the only end to planet earth that the planet would be quite upset over and in Knowing the planet is a scorched ball of fire after the sun engulfs it in a giant solar flare(larger than a normal solar flare, which is already many times larger than earth normally...)

I watched it when it aired, it was a mini-series, stretched over a few days. I think I was in High School. Aniara (2018) is an excellent "end of the world" film. It's a Swedish movie and tells the story of a space ship transporting evacuees from a dying Earth to Mars. The ship hits space debris, irreparably damaging it and knocking it off course sending the ship deep into interstellar space.

It was all about depression. The movie was so claustrophobic, with the set as an isolated estate. Like all good art films, it was focused on the characters and story and not on special effects and gimmicks. Did they name the planet before it was heading toward Earth?

The key moment is when Justine says "Life on the earth is evil. We don't need to grieve for it. Nobody will miss it." No more pointless suffering, hatred, violence, disease, anxiety, depression etc. for anyone. Humanity stepping off the hedonic treadmill at last. Lars von Trier is a philosophical pessimist, which means he accepts the view that life is accidental and objectively meaningless. This makes the ending a happy one.
@morgancrist6139
@morgancrist6139 Год назад
Justine ended up being the most put together character in the end. Kiefer Sutherland's seemed like the most stable and put together one but he could not handle what was about to happen. The movie had alot of depth.
@greggi47
@greggi47 Год назад
I think that von Trier was inspired by--or simply stole from--the Anthony Burgess novel (1982) END OF THE WORLD NEWS. One of the storylines is that a planet appears unexpectedly and is moving toward collision with Earth. l It causes disruptions in the Moon, moves away--then returns unexpectedly to the final encounter.

Well, except perhaps in These Final Hours. An asteroid that makes a fireball able to engulf the planet would be well over 10 km. Larger than the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. So all life on Earth would perish except for near the bottom of the Ocean... but even then, depending on the size of the asteroid, it could evaporate the oceans (if it's over 100 km in size, which is possible).

“Seeking a friend for the end of the world” is probably one of the saddest movies that just probably ends. Not because of the ending at all but because from the very beginning you figure out that there is 0% chance of hope for our lovers (who we fall in love with almost instantly) and they have no choice but to accept the fact that they no exactly when they’ll be dying. Which that last thing (knowing exactly when you’ll die is probably one of the scariest things that there is)

I feel you on this notion. I rarely ever get emotional about or during movies however, when Penny was flying off in the airplane and dodge was watching her leave, the song playing together with their journey up to then along with the fact that they won't be together for the end of the world frikin got me..like, I actually got misty. I really enjoyed the movie not only for it's realistic absurdity but also for it's character study from the absence of normal life and the impending dooms effect on people who've got nothing to lose but try and keep their sanity by continuing normal daily routines in a weird sense of denial and acceptance at the same time.

For me because I live local to Sheffield, it kind of hit home a bit more than most, however it covers a country that would not necessarily be a major player in any future war. It makes you think about the population that would be affected too instead of just the countries involved. Made me laugh when they evacuated the fire engines though.............what could they possibly come back and do?

I dont know how the knowing is not popular, I mean this movie is like combining science fiction and scary movie how?, well some scenes like every time the aliens showed up in the background it makes it a scary scene. And how basically the Aliens talks to the kids like Lucinda or Galeb is kinda scary And let’s not mention that scene where we find Lucinda in the closet. She literally looked like if she was haunted(and she kinda was) with the typical horror movie girl dress, with the blood in her hands like you can’t tell me that how she looked here was like if she was in a scary movie And well with Caleb it was when he was on his bedroom and suddenly the Alien “spirit” showed up and showed him the future In Lucinda’s scene it shows scary stuff While in the scenes where Abby and Caleb were talking to the Aliens it shows Scientific stuff And then there is once again the bedroom scene with Caleb and Aliens which shows both scary and scientific stuff I mean this movie is amazing bc of this mashing up scary and science, I have many reasons to love it but this is the main reason

Now, in this country, we have a Pres. who asks, why don't we use them seeing as we have them. Who gives in to the rabid with medals about more battlefield nukes, who threatens a FIRST STRIKE.
@christianblade2052
@christianblade2052 6 лет назад
+Denise Thomas I don't have to assume I've seen you're bullshit babbling in you're other comments. What good would having nukes be if we publicly state to the world that we'll never ever use them in any situation period. Obama by irresponsibly saying that has put us in an extremely weak position, and by unilaterally reducing our nuclear capabilities he has emboldened countries like Russia that have gone the opposite direction in expanding their tactical nuke stockpiles. Trump stood up to the fat boy in North Korea with his "fire and fury" threat and the fat boy understood that language crystal clear by turning his missiles away from Guam. I haven't heard too many threats coming from North Korea since Trump said that, have you? Go ahead and call me a jingoist if that pleases you, however I said that nuclear weapons are an effective deterrent to stop aggression from countries that seek to do us harm, and that is a fact. You're pacifist arguments aren't helping the people of our country in kind of way. Peace through strength is the only assured path of survivability, history has proven that time and time again.

"The Day After" is not an Earth- or Humanity-ending movie. And excuse me, the very first movie that should be listed is 1951 "When Worlds Collide", in which the actual planet is destroyed.

Agreed. They obviously didn't do their research very well. "When Worlds Collide" is probably the very first movie to depict the total destruction of Earth. And it predates most of the other movies in this video by DECADES!

Dr Strangelove was one of the best films ever made, hands-down. Peter Sellers plays 3 different characters, George C. Scott ventures into satirical comedy...a realm not well-known to him, and the rest of the cast is spectacular.

Well, we don't know if it would have wiped us out or not cause people did something about it. Y2k didn't happen because... 1. Nothing was going to happen anyway. OR 2. Something would have happened but the prevention measures put in placed ensured that nothing happened. Is it 1 or 2? No one will ever know.

Fun Fact - although Threads had less of a budget than The Day After, its still seen as the superior to the 1983 film, as per showing what happened to Sheffield and surrounding areas following the Nuclear holocaust, within 1 year, to 13 years after the first strike on Mashad
