Great content as always. The more I play the more I realize you need this kind of strategy playing pickleball. The reset on a hard shot hit at the net is really cool to watch. I picked the player who stayed calm just by seeing that shot. Our local pro breaks this down by using three colors, red, yellow, and green. Red, below the net, yellow is below the chest, and green is a higher put-away shot. Shots hit hard at the kitchen line in the yellow zone are the ones he recommends you try and reset the point. I love watching your videos, it's really helped me learn more strategy and is helping me be more of a complete player. Thank You!

I'm new to the game. A couple friends at my church started lessons and games. I got hooked after last week (first day)! Right now I'm starting off once a week (or so) until I get my stamina up (sore legs after each day). I did play a game with some of the seasoned players yesterday. :)

Amazing that strategy has to do with moving to the right position first, yet its the last thing a player learns when then cannot figure out when I am hitting the ball more consistent(from the wrong place on the court) but still losing. Even if you got no strokes, being on the right place on the court does wonders.

Thank you for helping us focus on the soft game. Better to wait for the other team to make the error.👍

Her arm is bent at a 90 degree angle so that she can best absorb the impact and maintain control of the shot. A guy told me this today and I had an "Aha" moment- now if I can just eliminate the temptation to continue a fire-fight instead of slowing it down. Thanks for the video!

Great observation. Paddle out in front makes this way easier to execute.

It was the quality on the drop that she was moving forward on not the fact that Jen stepped back. Jen also stepped back on the previous drive which did not invite her forward. I do not know if staying forward to hit a softer shot is the right answer.

Hold the NVZ line whenever possible.

@@BestPickleballCoach Many instructors say that you can step back and take the ball off the apex of the bounce, to create a more offensive shot. If you watch the Waters, they do it quite often. You should close the line after, I will give you. But there are times to create space weather for a better defense or to be more offensive. As a rule, you want to be at the NVZ line to give yourself more angles of attack.

Hello Janice. It is a powerful approach. You can always impose it on your games. Play soft and see what happens :).

The soft game is not available till about 3.0, you can have it as a goal before then. USPA skill rating definitions. Look at drops and dink. 3.0 Skill Rating Collapse FOREHAND: Ability to hit a medium paced shot. Lacks directional intent and consistency. BACKHAND: Avoids using a backhand. Lacks directional intent and consistency. SERVE / RETURN: Able to hit a medium paced shot. Lacks depth, direction, and consistency. DINK: Not able to consistently sustain a dink rally. Not yet developed the ability to control this shot. 3RD SHOT: Generally hits a medium paced ball with little direction. VOLLEY: Able to hit a medium paced shot. Lacks direction/inconsistent. STRATEGY: Understands fundamentals. Is learning proper court positioning. Knows the fundamental rules and can keep score and is now playing tournaments.

The question Dale is: what should a player focus on to improve? Not what can they currently do.

@@BestPickleballCoach I use a volley grip at the kitchen and of course it works great on the backhand side but for the forehand side the face is open. What grip do you prefer at kitchen and do you switch grips? I failed the 7th grade because chics distracted me.

@@BestPickleballCoach a fuzzy yellow ball. Slazenger makes the fuzziest balls! I prefer a under 10 year old tennis ball on pickleball courts. They are orange at targét. Use two serves and overhead serves are not illegal. We are playing this style in Florida now and we renamed it Xtenny. If you want to play xtenny with us over in Melbourne fl give me a shout and I could give you lessons. We are a well funded crew with an average net worth of 18,000,000 so the prize money is better than those pickleball prizes!
