Hello I am from Sohra which people also know as Cherrapunji. Cherrapunji is a name given by the British so we prefer to call it Sohra which is the original name of the place. I would appreciate it if everyone would use the original name. Thank you.

"Nohsngithiang Waterfalls" is the Sweetest name. It meaning is not Seven sisters. If possible please use the original name "Noh-sngi-thiang". Khasi meaning: Noh = Fall; Sngi = Sun; Thiang=Sweet or Pleasant to look. When you look at it in the summer, when the Sun (Mei 'Ngi) Glimpse from the Cloud. You'll appreciate its true name and why our ancestor gv this name.

Cherrapunji is no more the wettest place in the world..... The village of Mawsynram in Meghalaya trounced Cherrapunji to become the wettest place in the world. Mawsynram receives over 10,000 millimetres of rain in a year.

I have been to shillong last month, its true that we have heard a lot about shillong but its not that good from my aspect. Shillong must be green and covered with mountains all around but that doesnt make it the best. Shillong is just like a normal hill station. There is nothing to be excited about shillong. There are hardly any attractive place except the city seeing point. The hotels too are not that worth they are way too expensive and the food too is very bad in taste and unhygienic. But a place near shillong named Cheerapunji is very satisfying. Shillong doesnt have good travel accommodation airport is very far. The security for tourists at shillong is not doubtable. Shillomg city has got only 7 tourist place which will take hardly 4-5 hours to visit all because they are not very great and attractive tourist place. I will recommend to visit only Lady Hydari Park and a Cathedral Church in Shillong. Hotels in Shillong are costly and the hotels are also not worth of your money. The service of most of the hotels are also not good. The crime rate of Shillong is very less but there is no loss in taking precautions becuase you can not trust every people. There is nothing extraordinary to visits. Just a small town with mountains. Fooding and lodging is very costly. I only recomend this place to those who have never seen any hill station cost of living is very high in shillong.and we cannot find anything that cost below Rs 5 to stay for 1 night the hotels charge minimally around 1000 bucks n even more than that the food in the hotels are just okay and cost very high.the cab drivers charge very high for new passengers and u might also be fooled if u r not previously aware of the actual charge.😊The place is no doubt beautiful but I advise stay away from locals. They bullied us into paying fine for videos when I just had a still camera. I payed the camera fees like everyone. The locals misbehaved and snatched the car keys from us . Take care

Nohkali kai story: Kali kai is a widow and had one daughter ...she remarried so that her daughter can have the love of a father ...on contrary ..her new husband hated the daughter as Kali kai spent most of the time with her Little one ..so her new husband kill the little girl and cook her flesh as a meal ...When Ka Likai was back from work, she was astonished not to see her daughter around but was happy that her husband had cooked a meal for her.Satisfied that her daughter would be out playing, she enjoyed the food. Later, as she picked up the betel nut basket she found her daughter’s fingers in it. Filled with remorse, sadness, and grief, she rushed to the cliff and threw herself down. And, so the fall was named after her Nohkalikai Waterfalls.
