I never used to think I needed a primer. I'm 56 and my 18-year-old daughter asked me to try the elf putty primer. In my head I thought there's no way this stuff is going to make a difference but now I won't put my foundation on without it, I feel like my skin looks so much smoother and just prettier overall. I really enjoy your videos. 🤩
This series is super fun because you can see with the reviews how different primers work better for different people. I was surprised with the Milk primer being second because when I used it, it did not work well for me and my extra dry skin, instead it just made it feel very tacky and dry but then my sister in law who has oily skin raves about it. I'd love to see in future videos if we could leave a comment about skin type just to see whose suggesting what along side their personal skin type. I look forward to the future videos :)
You’re not alone with the milk primer. It made me break out and I’ve given it so many chances. But a great dupe that doesn’t break me out is the hard candy blue grip primer!
Wow I think I have or have tried every primer in this video. I’d have to say the only one missing that I’m obsessed with is the hard candy hydrating primer. I like it more than the milk hydro grip and it’s so similar and waaaay cheaper!
I need to try that one. I like the hard candy putty primer but haven’t tried the gripping one. I cannot use the milk one…. I broke out in a rash and the resulting eczema took a RX steroid cream to clear up! I will never touch that milk primer again.
@@annemunoz4407 I have that one as well. I prefer the hard candy one. The elf one is a lot stickier. Still good just not as good as the hard candy. It’s the closest dupe I’ve found. You should try it 😊
When I watched this I was actually wearing all three winners so far... the elf primer, loreal infallible, and the elf hydrating camo concealer. Guess I roll with the crowd on makeup 😂
@@DG-si2vp haha no I meant the winners from the series so far including the foundation and the concealer... three primers would be a little bit extra even for me! 😂
Absolutely loving this series, Allie! I really appreciate hearing what skin types these primers go well with from your viewers! That’s a huge help in knowing whether they’d be good for someone with my skin issues. Like even though the Benefit Porefessional was ranked at #10, it could still be great for someone like me with large pores and acne scars! Thanks so much for all the work you put in to this series ❤️❤️❤️
Hourglass ambient light does something amazing under my eyes!! As someone whose 40, it doesn't settle and brightens like nothing else. And the hourglass mineral veil is my hg powder. It just feels so smooth and blurs beautifully while not making it look like I'm wearing powder. Worth every penny.
Thank you for sharing this, and all the other comments!! I’m 41 and just now barely dipping my toe into any makeup, I’ve always just used sunscreen and that’s it. I got the Wet n Wild setting powder and admittedly I’m not really sure what it’s supposed to set like, but it really accentuates any fine lines, especially those under my eyes so I’m not really loving it.
OK. I have heard enough about the E.L.F. putty primer to finally convince me to try it once I run out of what I currently use. I was a fan of the Tatcha Silk Canvas but gosh, the price. Thanks for this type of video, Allie. They're awesome!
Can't believe it's been a year. I have tried the E.L.F. and agree that it doesn't really blur my pores. It's more emollient than the Tatcha too. BUT, I have been using it gently patted underneath my eyes. It really helps to smooth that area if you have any fine lines! For face primer I've gone back to Benefit Porefessional (Ulta sales in recent months).
I was thinking it's probably the Norvina volume 5 pallette that she had been loving, but it would be exciting if it was something she is working on! (Edited for spelling-typo)
I definitely need to try the ELF Poreless Putty Primer. Thanks for doing this awesome series, Allie. It's good to know which products really work for people, and as you said, if works well on one's wedding day, it's definitely a winner!
@Winter Bear 💜 No, I haven't tried it as ELF is not available in store in South Africa, and it is quite pricey from the re-sellers. Thanks for the recommendation, as I definitely want to try it soon.
i love this series.... my Fav loose powder is definately Maybelline FitMe loose powder...It really makes my concealer last much longer and not crease...it is so finely milled , just makes everything so smooth and nice. And ofc it is also affordardable which is a huge plus.
I love this series! You should totally do the final video wearing all the winners together! My favourite powder is the No 7 airbrush away finishing powder. A total dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury pressed powder and in my opinion is actually better. Blurs skin and doesn't sit in fine lines or take away the glow. Never looks heavy or powdery. Love it!
Loving loving loving this series! So happy you created it. As a 53 yr old with gracefully maturing skin it’s so helpful to hear what others are using to feel and look their best. Other opinions truly do matter when it comes to the products that keep them feeling the best version of themselves. So thank you very much for the never ending inspiration you continue to bring to your channel and this community 💕
I am in love with the No 7 Lift and Luminate pressed setting powder. It is SO smooth and finely milled and rivals any high end powder. It sets my concealer and oily skin with an effective yet almost invisible magic and does not highlight the fine lines in my 54 year old skin. A true gem of a product in a pretty package! I'm really enjoying this series and your interest in our opinions. Fun!
I just finished watching this video and I LOVE THIS SERIES! It's so helpful to see not only your insight on which products work the best, but to see other people who watch your channel give their favorites! It's cool to see how it works with different skin types, and WHY/HOW they used it!
Such a great series! I love hearing the unique reviews and your responses to them are always so sweet and lovely. It really feels like we’re part of the community
Great video, thanks! 🙂 I have mature combination skin and I wonder if it's common that People use two different primers ( One for the T-zone and one for the cheeks)? I have yet to tried one primer that does the job for the whole face....I'm so glad I found your channel, you do a great job! 🙂 ( Live in Sweden)
Great video! I voted for a powder! I’m looking forward to that one! Another Smashbox primer which is my favorite ….it’s so similar to the Elf Putty and the Tatcha and the Tarte , is their Photo Finish Minimize Pores primer. I buy the minis because I use so little. I focus mostly on certain areas. I can’t really put my finger on why I like it better than the others (I own all 4!!). It’s just the one I reach for almost every time!
You need to try out Revlon's powder blush in Rosy Rendezvous! It is recent discovery of mine but I am in love with the shade, such a natural and cute looking blush. Also, would you be able to do a review on Revlon's Light Cover Foundation? I am interested in the foundation and would love to hear your thoughts on it!
I have a question - I read somewhere that there was an ingredient in the milk hydro grip primer that is toxic to dogs. Has anyone else heard that? Did I completely make that up? Very curious because that is the one reason I have never bought it.
I really don’t understand the hype not that it makes makeup bad but I can’t see any difference between using it or wearing only my skincare maybe I don’t use enough makeup to see a difference 🤔
Been eyeing the Marshmellow primer for a while now but it's still expensive for a drugstore primer 😥 Right now I'm still loving the NYX Hydra Touch primer, which I've had for more than a year now. I might purchase the Marshmellow one once I run out.
First off, I have mature, dry skin. I'm 47. I 💜 Essence's Fresh & Fit primer. It's my first choice pick. I use it with ELF Poreless Putty primer. If my skin is dry, I like Smashbox's Primerizer or Too Faced Hangover primer. If your skin gets VERY DRY I like First Aid Beauty's Ultra Repair Hydrating primer. I really want to try Tatcha's or Bobbi Brown's.
You know what I think would be so fun….. is if you did a video using all of these products at the end of the series. Loving hearing what other people are enjoying and why. 😘
Nice I really like these videos! I knew the Elf putty primer and the Milk hydro grip would be in there. I'm surprised to see Bobbi brown on the list though, as I have not seen many makeup RU-vidrs talk about it. My favourites are the Laura Mercier pure canvas primers :)
I loved this! There were so many primers mentioned that are on my wishlist and I now feel confident enought to buy them, or great ones I want to test out :)
Love this series Allie💜 you are so sweet..I really enjoy your enthusiasm for makeup!! In my younger days, I never left my house without makeup..and I loved trying new things 💜 however, life happened and I slowly stopped wearing it. I’m 57 years young now and I’m just getting back in the game..you’re never too old!!
Loving the series about favorites! My favorite powders are, for loose it’s Givenchy Prisme Libre and for compact it’s Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish! Both of those really hold up in this Louisiana heat on my oily skin!
Fenty loose powder - Lavender one. It’s seriously magic under my eyes. I’m not a powder gal and only use a very tiny bit if absolutely necessary. This powder instantly smooths my under eyes. I never hear anyone talk about it but I think it’s a hidden gem and highly under rated :) Loving this series! Xo Tammy 🇨🇦
Went to Ulta yesterday for a sunscreen and a primer, hadn’t seen your video yet, but I purchased Kylieskin sunscreen SPF 40, and the saleslady said it functioned as a primer too. I was looking for hydrating products, as I have mature skin, and normally the humidity here in SC takes care of that, but with the heat on now, my skin feels sucked dry. I love this product! It’s silky slippy yet grippy, and my makeup went on flawlessly this morning. Hope it holds up!
Being a little older, I like the Pur Cosmetics 4-in-1 powder. It is talc free and does not settle into fine (and not-so-fine) lines. Love to hear what you think!
So, I tried the Benefit Pore-fessional after I submitted my favorite primer, the Origins cooling primer, and if I could've gone in again and submitted for the Pore-fessional, I WOULD HAVE. It blurs EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING! My forehead, with the pores and lines, has NEVER looked so good before. I'm SHOOK.
How exciting that MY favorite primer was number ONE!! Go Elf🎉🎉 I will say that the next primers I'm going to try are by Hard Candy. They have a similar pore filling primer and an amazing hydrating primer. I've seen SO many wonderful views on these~
I love Paula’s Choice primer…it feels like silk, and it has SPF 30! I really like the ELF primer too, but it doesn’t have the SPF. As far as powders, I love Mary Kay’s loose mineral powder. Love your videos. 💕
You asked about setting and pressed powders. Needless to say, I just ordered EVERY Laura Mercier Loose setting powders. I LOVE LOVE LOVE her brightening eye powder and her Honey Loose setting powder. These are my holy grails. I love these series and you! Continued love and blessings. Stay safe 💋 🤎🙏🕊
I love the too faced primer I used it as an extra hydration especially during winter and love the sitting spray as well. The smell of coconut is just so good.
This initially didn't interest me because I'm bone dry mature skin. I have the elf and the Lorac 3 in 1 light source. I will try some suggestions and again as the others have said the series is wonderful as you are Allie. Your precious personality and the light in your soul shines thru love you
Allie, what are you wearing as your eye shadow? This is the exact look i want for my wedding in a month. I love these videos. For one, it makes me want to try new things but also makes me feel good when i see something on the top 10 that i already use! Feel like I'm getting the hang of this makeup thing! :)
I really tried to like the ELF primer, but for my oily skin it just wasn't it. BUT, another drugstore primer that I really like is the Rimmel London, Stay Matte Primer! It smoothes me out better than the elf one!
I love love love the makeup forever powder foundation! I have an extremely oily t-zone and it keeps my oil at bay without looking cakey or clogging my pores. I love to use it by itself on days when I’m feeling a little lazier… I don’t even need a mirror to use it. So fool-proof. I also love it as a setting powder over tinted moisturizer type products to add a little more coverage. Because I’m so oily I’m a less is more kind of girl and this powder does that for me! Flawless finish with minimal product and effort but never looks cakey even if I am heavy handed with it.
Wild thought: I have a value sized of the hourglass primer.... the tinted sunbum mineral face sunscreen (spf 50) is such a good dupe! I actually like it better because of the mineral sun-coverage.... the tint is fine for super fine girls to medium, can't speak any further than that personally, but it has that smoothing silicone-y feel while playing well with all my foundations. Sometimes I use it as a barely barely there skin tint. About to declutter my hourglass since I never use it since the sunbum purchase! If anyone needed a more affordable option for a nearly identical finish, highly recommend
Favorite powder: bare minerals mineral veil original. I love this because it makes my makeup look air brushed. It doesnt settle in my lines also it hides my pores.
I know this video is older but I just have to put in my two cents. I just laughed when she said the number one primer, I had bought this years ago because of the hype and thought it was the worst primer I have ever used!! I’m a shook its number 1!! I liked the milk primer, and I did feel it made my make up wear all day long, but as someone with sensitive skin, it just burned my face unfortunately so I had to stop using it. Smashbox primers are great but nothing mind blowing. I really just don’t care for any ALF products. NYX primers are fine but they just aren’t a brand I gravitate towards anymore. I liked the hourglass, but it’s so expensive. Haven’t purchased it in a while. Are used to love the too faced primer, but same thing with the milk primer. It just started to really irritate my skin. Was hoping from this video. Maybe I would find a new primer to love that have used most of these as I’ve always been a primer gal. May try the Bobby Brown but a little hesitant, if it contains fragrance. If anyone reads this and has a primer they recommend that wasn’t in this video please let me know!!
Darn was so excited to see the winner....huge disappointment...dont like the ELF Poreless at all. Took note of some of the others such as MILK Hydragrip.
Hmmm.. what’s on your lids, girl?! Giving me the new colourpop super shock vibes or the Pat McGrath huetopia palette. Am I right?? Totally wrong?? I gotta know
*Powder* Don't expect this one to rank high but . . .Bare Minerals Mineral Veil. You don't have to use it specifically in conjunction with Bare Minerals face products.
I know this is an old video but I’m wanting opinions on buying new primers. I wish you would swatch everything(all makeup from all categories), to show the texture/finish of the product. I feel like you never swatch anything
Hey Allie I saw your lipstick video recently and I’m hooked to this videos iam from 🇮🇳 INDIA here we also love makeup so much I too have my fav it’s an absolute Indian OG brand lakme blurr perfect primer it’s my cult fav I don’t even know how my makeup game will be if lakme ever thinks of stopping that I have been hooked to it since 3 years now and it’s my 5 th tube if you really gets any chance of trying that please do try my cult fav primer ❤
For me, the elf poreless putty primer does nothing except make my face feel slick and warm. I feel that my oily skin is worse when I use it because my face is warm, I’m assuming it’s the silicone that’s trapping heat? I’m not sure. Maybe I’m applying it wrong or using the wrong makeup products with it. I would love to get use out of it, so let me know if anyone has any tips lol.
