Since DJI's quick on software updates with their drones, hopefully they'll add some of the quick shot modes and zoom feautre we want to see on the a2s on their upcoming updates

Some misconceptions here regarding HDR. HDR video on mavic 2 is like HDR photo which means it is "baked in" there is no dynamic metadata and it will not make an HDR TV switch to a true HDR mode. But the Air 2s has HLG video and that is true 10-bit HDR meaning that your TV will switch to HDR mode when you playback that HLG file

I have to disagree on the top mounted sensors. They have a wide angle field of view that can see almost forward and upward. Recently I shot some photos inside a church for my client and those sensors gave a good idea of how close I was to the ceiling since I could not tell from floor. Also related to battery life. My friend bought the Air 2 a while back and the battery compatibility with the 2S was a money saver for him since he did not need a fly more combo. Sometimes there are pros and cons using the same battery. Some complained that the Mavic 2 did not support the original mavic batteries. On your other points I do agree. It seems like DJI was rushing this drone as a intermediary before the Mavic 3.

Of course any person will have a list of some gripes about any product. Being brand new and this is my first drone my list is pretty short. I do agree about the carrying case (I bought a nice big hard case), zoom in pictures and the side sensors. I agree that if you set the thing in the circle program (which I enjoy) you have to be sure there are no tall objects in the radius of the circle or you will side hit something. Thanks.

I was going to get the Air 2S when it was released but was really disappointed to see it didn't work with the dji goggles. Like you i was wondering if the top 2 angled sensors indicated dji had a late change of mind & decided to keep goggle compatibility for a future release. Removing HDR video is just plain mean.

You can easily adjust your control settings in the menu. If you want slower movement just fine tune to your liking. Side sensor would be a big plus and zoom in picture 📸 and video.

Having looked into it Jack the Air 2S does have HLG video, which I gather is a form of HDR. Did the Air have HDR10? To be honest I'm still not sure of the difference & whether HLG is as good as HDR10. Can you shed any light on this?

Wow, didn't realize the 2s doesn't have HDR video. I've had my Air 2 since they came out last year, and I'm thinking of upgrading. The lack of HDR video is making me hesitate. I don't mind touching up the color in post, but I've found that it's a lot easier and I get better results with the HDR video. I also agree that the lack of side sensors is rather ridiculous. A side crash is much more likely that crashing into something above the drone. Some of DJIs decisions are a little weird. Still, there really is no other choice for a prosumer drone.

I was wondering if they added the 2 sensors on top because the obstacle avoidance will increase altitude to fly over objects. People could have been colliding with objects above ? Just a thought of why they would add those. I am fairly confident in the avoidance system but I strongly agree we need sensors on the side.

When the drone pitches forward, the sensors will face downwards, so those two extra ones face forwards in such a scenario. A smart move if you ask me BUT yes side facing sensors would have been a welcome feature on this drone. Maybe the air3 or 3s will have them.

The Air 2S is my new drone upgrading from the MavicPro. I agree with you on the sensor positions. I would like settlings to soften sideways movement similar to the Yaw settings. Also, this drone is noisy.

I decided to hang onto my MA2 rather than ‘upgrade’ to the Air2S. Given that most of what I shoot is aimed at the web, and in Australia you can’t fly after twilight without a waiver, a one inch sensor is of limited value. Had it included variable aperture I would have upgraded, keeping the MA2 as back-up. One thing I dislike about both drones is the attachment of filters. I reckon repeated changes add risk of damaging the gimbal. So I bought a Pgytech VND filter, rationalising that gently turning the ring would be less risky than changing filters as required. It works, BUT, it presses up hard against the awfully designed gimbal protector and makes it harder to get on and off. Going to have to think about that. Failing something better coming out before the year end holidays, I see an Evo2 v2 Pro in my future. On another tack, can you test the latest Anafi USA and the AI? Keep up the good work.

Just thought id post to say im new to the channel but ave really enjoyed ur content and presentation. Instant sub from me Sir, keep up the good work! I have a suggestion, when doing reviews and particularly comparisons, could u add a visual for the stats please, would be really helpful to see them. In the comparison vids it would obv also make it easier for the viewer to see which drones do best in which categorys and which they do worst at. This imo would be a massive help as some people will want to prioritise a particular use/feature/function for the drone they wanna purchase.

We seem to be loosing intelligent flight modes on every drone. Remember all the ones on the mavic pro, terrain follow, way points, fixed wing mode, are some that disappeared.

Jack, Great Video, and Great Review On The Air 2S. I feel that DJI will not think through all the features needed for the new Mavic 3 Pro or the name they give it. In my opinion, DJI is doing it intentionally in order to to everyone to buy now, rather than wait.

A great annoyance I have is that the drone stops, or jerks away from an object, even when I have all of the sensors turned off. Perhaps I haven't found how to turn something off, but so far, I keep returning to other drones to get shots without sudden jerks in the footage. :{

One of the comments states that the up tilted opt. sensors are for flight in Sport mode. I have seen this comment before in other presentations. But I have also viewed presentations that state that opt. avoidance is not available in sport mode. Can you shed some light on this?

MA2S is a remarkable machine. At this writing, it does not support waypoint missions. For my applications, precisely controlled waypoint circuits are critical because they allow me to focus on the camera work and safety monitoring. So far DJI has not released the SDK to support this risk mitigating functionality. My MA2S is a paperweight until this waypoint support is added.

I think the upward angled sensors are for when you have the drone in Sport mode and give it the beans....it pitches so far forward that the original front sensors would be staring at the ground not directly in front when moving forward. But yes I agree that DJI should have added side sensors. I have a Mavic Mini and I don't use the Quickshots, especially the Orbit, for fear it will smack something on the side

Three things that drive me crazy with the A2S that weren't mentioned in the video: You have to unfold the arms to remove or insert the Micro SD card. You get back home, the drone is folded up, and if you want to get your files, you have to unfold the arms. Put the slot where you can access it without having to unfold the arms. Same thing for the battery, if you are charging at night, one gets fully charged, and all you want to do is put it in the drone for tomorrow, you have to unfold the arms to put it in - and then of course fold them back up to put the drone back in the case. But the NUMBER ONE thing I don't like is the fact that the Charge Phone option has to be enabled for every flight. Leave it set as I set it. Don't reset it to off and make me waste precious flight time having to go into the menu, select the second tab, scroll down, and slide the option to on for every flight. Why does everything else stay set but the charge phone option doesn't? Especially as the phone battery will drain 100 times before the remote battery does. What good is the remote without the phone????????????????????

Can anyone advise on this issue, if it is an issue? So i just got the air 2s fly more (not my first drone) but when shooting in jpeg+raw the jpeg looks sharp and nice, but the dng image looks blurry and grainy.... I know jpeg gets its own editing in a way when you take the shot.. any idea why the dng raw images are coming out worse than the jpeg? cheers

Raw images generally look dull and bland. You then can color grade them.

Great video - BUT. #5: flight time translates to flight range, and the 2s range is 7.25 miles compared to 11.49 miles for my air 2. It amounts reducing my outreach by two full miles one way, and for what I do, this is HUGE. Why is range difference never directly discussed?

I know this is a year old video but re-watching it again I agree with almost everything. Almost. The placement of the top OA sensors was needed because when moving forward the old Air 2 sensors spent most of the time pointed at the ground. Adding the top sensors allows it to scan forward and use OA much better. I agree the addition of side sensors would be nice but it all comes down to being aware of your surroundings. Thanks

I’ve purchased 3 days ago air2s from Dji website, thinking of returning it and get mini 3pro. I’m really confused now. I like size of air2s, how handle windy conditions, build quality, probably better range . Mini 3 pro has HDR, is quieter, weight could be another advance for travel purchase. Give me some advice. @@johns2260 If your primary criteria is the weight which is very important in some countries the Mini3 is a great choice. I do not mind the additional weight and actually prefer it because I am in an area that can be windy. I prefer the Air 2S because of the 1" sensor for better video and Pic quality, the more rigged frame, because we will all eventually crash or have a hard landing and overall I think the Air 2S is the best all around quad in the air. To me it is the middle ground between the Mini 3 and the Mavic 3. You have to decide and your preferences might be different than mine. Bottom line is both are awesome quads and it comes down to personal preference. Get the one you will love to fly.

I have a sub 250g DJI Mini and it is great., If the Air 2S was somehow made to be sub 250 and still had the fill 1 inch sensor and all the Options it has now Id stick with it yes. The Mini 3 Pro is a great drone but it is what it is. I register all my drones regardless of weight so the sub 250's are a lot of fun but they are consumer drones where the Air 2S was designed to be a Prosumer drome.

At first I thought the same thing...but...the programming will think you are flying forward towards an obstacle, when actually the object would be on the side. If we moved them to the side, which could be done fairly easily, we also need access to the software...not so easy. :(

I have watched several videos on this drone and no one really mentions any negative features or simple features that are not included. I didn't know you had to do color grading... I just want the camera to do the work and be done with it. I don't think color grading is for me. thanks for your insight.

I just bought this Air 2s. None of these possible software updates have come out, minimal bug fixes. Seems unlikely they will spend money on developer time to add these features

My RTH is not working. It goes up to my RTH height and sometimes stays there w/o returning home. Other times, it will return to about 50 behind home and hovers w/o descending. Has anyone had problems with the same? I'm also getting "motor overload, check propellors" They're fine and came with the drone. I changed the propellors with the same issue. Has anyone had this issue?

Thanks for this video HC. Very informative! They never sent firmware to the Mavic Air 2 to allow zoom in photo mode as well. I don't think these improvements will be sent at all. They want you to spend more money on just about everything! As for all the other things you mentioned, don't hold your breath! Just open your wallet! LOL! Thanks for sharing.

I set my phone to only charge to 85% after I charged it to 100%. So it won't charge till it's below 85% works for me.

Side Obstacle Avoidance Agreed 100% The FPV goggles 100% agree it should and could be a very simple software fix, it's annoying it isnt there at this point Master Shots 100% agree should be able to add all the options you want like circle spiral, basically add all the automated options you have on the system as it stands and be able to choose the order and durations etc. HDR Video is a nice to have feature, I agree, 100% when you just want that video to output and are not going to post adjust anything. Otherwise with DLOG you can adjust so much to give you all the range you would get out of an automated HDR video but thats using a good video editor to achieve it. The flight time is well lets just say a best case scenario, you can only fly at 19km/h or 12m/h to get that 30 mins of time and also take it down to 1-3% battery ie: override the warnings and RTH, everyone will fly at a faster speed so battery will be done way before, if you get 20 mins your flying real gentle and getting the max out of your flight, lets say around 25km/h or 15m/h. In Cine mode full forward you will be flying at 55km/h or 34m/h you will be hard pressed getting 15 mins of flight time at that continuous speed. So really does it matter much? I just purchased the fly more combo and another extra battery as I have a 4 bay field charger that chargers all 4 batteries at the same time and I can fly continuous with 5 batteries total. People will argue that you cant fly out too far before having to turn back, I say move yourself to the other location, if you want long range well lets just say there are a 100 other options for that. Fly More Bag 100% is no good if you have extra gear at all, you can barely fit anything else in it Aperture 100% agree well I use ND filters annoying to have to take off etc, what happens is you have to land etc Indoor Mode yeah agree Photo zoom Agree I woud love a tripod mode 100% agree, it would be great if you could set the speed I had to set expo in the radio to adjust that so I can make tiny movements.

The biggest/ only problem I have with this drone is having no control over the front led’s. I like flying in stealth mode & to have these front lights not only stay on, but flash like the rear led’s?.. Terrible. I lose orientation when coming in for landings at night because they’re all flashing green at the same time.

Here's my thoughts, The flight time is affected by a whole host of things like, two more sensors, Ocu Sync 3 which uses more power and the larger 1-inch sensor recording at max 5.4k 10 bit video. People really don't understand how much a sensor chews power and finally, the air 2s uses the exact same battery as the air2 so it will definitely have less flight time. What dji should have done is create a larger capacity battery to accommodate these new features. A lot of the problems aren't with the drone but with Dji itself, they didn't want to cannibalise the Mavic 2pro by having every feature punched into this little guy. With tripod mode, just don't push the stick all the way when in cine and the drone will be slow enough for you to capture what you want and it's even better when you don't have the sticks screwed on as you have more movement control this way. For me the ONLY two problems I found with this drone is no side sensors and no compatibility with the Dji goggles. That latter was a huge bummer give the use the same transmission system.

The top sensors are for self flight like follow so it can go low and below tree limbs and thing. Has nothing to do with flying by stick

You are right on the target ... Now , if DJI will fix all the 10 problems on the future drone ( Mavic 3 perhaps ) ,then I will get it .Otherwise I am fine with my Air 2 S so far .( $1300 for a drone is the max i can spend on my budget for a drone , unfortunately ,the next drone will be much more expensive .)

Well, nothing is perfect. As far as I wish, I wanted to have everything in one drone, but that is not possible in business sense. Product has to come to market in different configurations to target different segments with different price point. Not everyone need all features.

I think the mini 3 pro is a better drone and less expensive than the air 2S especially for night hyperlapse videos- no registration needed and easier for travel and longer flight time with extended battery- only wind is the negative compared to the air 2s - the other pro is 60 degrees up tilt on mini 3 pro 😊

I have been facing way too many issues with my Air 2s. Dji support aren't helping at all. They replace my faulty air 2s with another faulty air 2s and ask me again and again to resend the drone for repair which will took an estimated 2 month. I had it with Dji, I bought the drone back in April and until now haven't flown it much due to bad connections and laggy video feed. Lense issue, vision sensor issue and app freezed when using smart mode. After 5 years with Dji I finally gonna switch to Autel and give it a try. Even their service center openly told me their workshop congested with faulty air 2s. If you live in south east Asia never ever buy the dji air2s ce version.

But that's exactly when most people are looking exactly where its going and high up. I agree the sensors would be much more logical on the sides, slow speed filming and turning is where sensors matter imo.
