A great game I enjoyed this year was Deadbolt. It came out with barely any word of it, but it's soo good. The music, the enemies, the atmosphere and the presentation just makes for a crazy 7-12 hour experience.
GOD! Your production value is so high dude. Your vids are always great to see appear in my subbox. You got that "homie" feel. With that I mean that your voice and mannerisms make me feel comfy as if I was geeking out with a friend man. Keep it up and let's see what 2017 will bring us! :D
I'm currently working on my own list of "Best/Top/Games That You Should Play of 2016" so i'll just leave it at this: Darkest Dungeon's handling of stress is absolutely brilliant and well worth the price of admission alone. It was a surprising reliever for an incredibly stressful and altogether awful year.
MegaMix was such a delight to play! I still think the original DS one is my favorite in the series, but MegaMix did so much to make the game more accessible and just as well-designed as ever. Glad someone else really enjoyed it, too!
Great list! My favorites from this year had to be Yo-kai watch 2, Pokemon Sun and Moon, Dragon Ball Fusions, Kirby Planet Robobot and (from the little that I've played) Final Fantasy XV
Final Fantasy XV was my favourite. Spent the most time with it than any other game, and while the story wasn't so good and the final few chapters were pretty bad, the rest of it during the open world portion was so much fun.
Well that's not why, I just felt like it was very obscure and that no one would find it GoTY material, you're the very first person I have seen that's put it on their list. I haven't even played it myself I have 100 hours on Postal 2 and its DLC but not the first.
tl:dr I can't understand your subscriber amount. ---------- UGH. I'm just... disappointed about a thing. You probably get this a lot, NitroRad, but I have to share my feelings with you and the world. This video is so... godamn (!) well-made.. The animated transitions merging with the game, the fitting background music, the brief pauses to show an aspect of the game and most important: the flawless review (imo). I just love how you nailed to explain and give me a general feeling for each game you analysed. That happened when you carefully described what you felt when playing each game, and it just works so well. Every time you say "one of my favorite games of all time" it impacts me so much and I automatically think: "holy shit! I GOTTA play this man!" Not only that, but you speak about my favorite obscure games too. Yume Nikki and .flow are games that are so important to me... and when I looked up for those names on RU-vid, I was really anxious to see what would someone say about those games... and godamn, you just made me super happy that day. Okay, enough. What I wanted to talk about is: SUBSCRIBERS. I just can't believe you only have 20k. It's just... nonsense to me... Isn't there anything you can do to boost this? Or are you a terrible youtuber and we 20k are crazy people? ;v; -sorry. :c
Top 5 for me: 5) TitanFall 2 4) Ratchet & Clank 3) Dark Souls 3 2) Dishonored 2 1) Doom... Doom is incredible. It was one of the best shooters I've ever played at... level 4. Hours and hours of map maker later, having enjoyed the arcade mode update, and even before then replaying the campaign and watching for secrets a lot, I can definitely justify that early claim. Oh, and I bought the soundtrack to. Amazing game!
Doom and Last Guardian would be on my top spot, but can't decide between them. Very different games. Other than that, in no order - Hitman, XCOM 2, Shadow Tactics, Dishonored 2, Deus Ex, Uncharted 4, Dark Souls 3, Titanfall 2, Overwatch, Battlefleet Gothic Armada. Blood & Wine expansion for Witcher 3 was also pretty good. Dead Rising PC port is fantastic, also enjoyed Dragon's Dogma and Resident Evil Zero ports (DD ran like shit on consoles, never owned Gamecube or Xbox 360).
My favourite games that came out this year are: Mirror's Edge Catalyst Rise Of The Tomb Raider Inside Pokemon Moon Ratchet and Clank Doom The Last Guardian Uncharted 4 Still would like to get round to: Dark Souls 3 FFXV Fire Emblem Fates Abzu All in all, not a bad year at all.
Oh, I didn't know you were a fan of the rhythm heaven games! Actually, I've only owned Rhythm heaven fever, but that alone got me to love the series. It's perhaps the one of the silliest, not to mention one of the most enjoyable rhythm games out there.... although I don't know that many (I've heard of Elite Beat Agents, but I've never played it) . If only I had a 3DS, then I could experience the best of all the games in Megamix.... May I ask if you've heard of the Phoenix Wright series? I personally think you would enjoy something like that.
11:17 Did you just mention End of Evangelion? You should totally do a video on the Evangelion game on N64, one of (what I think is) the best anime-based video game. It's fairly short, but it's absolutely great.
Say, have you ever heard of the DanganRonpa video game series? It's absolutely great, and the third installment is coming out this month (at least for Japan.)

I've enjoyed half of the same games you did like Uncharted 4, Ratchet & Clank, and Final Fantasy XV, but I've also enjoyed games like Quantum Break, Gears of War 4, and Pac-Man Championship Edition 2. There is one more interesting game I think you should check out: Have you ever heard of the game AM2R: Return of Samus? No, it's not an official Nintendo product and I'm not sure about your thoughts about unofficial fan-made video games, but this game is so good, it could potentially be a Nintendo product if you didn't know beforehand. Sadly, Nintendo slapped DMCA takedown notices on the sites hosting the download for this game, but it's actually not hard to find online if you know where to look.
The games i really enjoyed in 2016 are Dark Souls 3, Pokemon Sun, LISA the pointless (pls make a stream of it) and Creepy castle (you should really try that game out)

The creator of Hyper Light Drifter suffers from a lethal heart condition. He could literally die at any moment, and that served as some inspiration for the game.

Though I don't think Uncharted 4 is a masterpiece and I'm not actually a fan of the cinematic approach to video games (and that's exactly why I don't like the somber and lethargic experience of The Last of Us), I have to say it is my second favorite of the franchise right next to Uncharted 2. The game certainly has a better pacing narrative than Uncharted 3 and the gameplay is lot more realized. The experience of being the perfect sendoff to Nathan Drake's last adventure is engaging and heartwarming. The transition from cutscene to gameplay feels rather seamless that it almost got me fooled the visuals stayed consistent throughout the game. It is probably the most beautiful looking game I have ever seen and it feels rather refreshing seeing a AAA blockbuster game with vibrant use of colors other than depressing sepia brown and gray. The combat also feels lot more natural and I admire the optional take of engaging in combat or just taking down every enemy in stealth mode. Even the pacing feels more natural compared to Uncharted 3 when you jump from location to location and set piece spectacles feel less jarring and disjointed. And I also admire the narrative. Yeah sure, Uncharted 4 does have a fair share of plot holes but they never felt that jarring compared to Uncharted 3's experience in narrative filled with questions and holes. The characters also never felt like an afterthought unlike Chloe and Cutter in Uncharted 3. The main antagonist Rafe Adler is also more interesting than Marlowe and Talbot. I don't mind Marlowe and Talbot but they felt like a total letdown and were unfortunately completely underrealized as villains. The final battle isn't as thrilling as in Uncharted 2 but I had a hell of a ride reading every pattern in swordfencing unlike the quick-time experience with Talbot. While I don't think Uncharted 3 is a bad game, it felt more like a subpar copy-pasting experience of Uncharted 2, like they put a major focus on crafting set-pieces rather than giving it a proper polish in balancing out the campaign. Uncharted 4 certainly has a slow start but after an hour or two of the prologue, the game will start to kick in. And I have noticed that a good number of people had the problem with too much platforming. I never had that kind of problem myself since platforming was crafted with interesting level design, though I have to admit that the combat may have been a little bit nerfed compared to the previous iterations. But when there's a combat, it is one of the most thrilling and well thought out combat I have ever experienced for an action adventure third person shooter. I love how the rope mechanic was utilized and in a lot of moments it really feels like you're playing a movie (unlike The Last of Us and The Order 1886 where it feels like you're just watching a movie with some player input). Well there are few gripes I have with the game. For example, I don't like how they handled the character Nadine Ross. She felt like the developers wanted to fill almost every McDonalds checklist of representing minorities in video game medium that it felt like Nadine never felt like a realistic character. Are you telling me that Drake can manage to defeat a jacked up Serbian dictator who consumed some magic mumbo-jumbo minerals which compensate for steroids without breaking a sweat but he couldn't even manage to defeat a woman with less physical endurance than Lazarevic and he couldn't even beat her with his brother mind you? Okay, in her defense she's an expert martial artist and that isn't his expertise but Drake had managed to hold on his own against fast zombie like creatures in Uncharted 1, buffed up cannibals in Uncharted 2 and jacked up British meatheads in Uncharted 3 without any problems. I don't mind strong independent female characters in video games, comics or movies in general but I'd be glad if they approached them in a more realistic manner and not just turning them into unstoppable Mary Sue's just to appeal to the ''oppressed minority demographic''. And the epilogue part felt kind of unnecessary and a bit too pretentious. I'm glad they wrapped up the ending in a more satisfying note but I wouldn't really mind if they just kept it little short. Overall, it's a very satisfying sendoff to Drake's last hoorah.
Whenever NitroRad talks about Deus Ex: Human Revolutions or mankind divided, i'm subtly scared that he hasn't played the original Deus Ex It was a PC exclusive after all, and I know he's not huge on mainstream PC games....
The combat is very similar to fury, but more hack and slash and less bullet hell. Furi was another excellent game I played this year! It was very close to being on this list!
i maybe wrong, but i stop playing video games for a for a few years watching so many first person shooter on sell. But it seems that after 2013 so many great games have come out. Maybe it's time to pick a controller again lool
I really wanted to play the new Doom! I did not like Dishonored 1 at allllll though, so I didn't bother with the second. Just don't like that kind of genre I guess.
That's why I thought I was going to love Dishonored 1 when I played it! A big part of it is the setting. Anything Victorian era style is just noooooooooo for me
Really doesn't help that the storyline in Dishonored is utter garbage, unlike Deus Ex HR which has a relatively decent story, albeit not great. Seriously - I can't believe how insanely mediocre the story is in the Dishonored games. Couldn't they come up with something that's at least on the level of Legacy of Kain?
HR has a very straight forward story, but the lore/world building is excellent. All the emails you can read and houses you can break it deliver a lot of the world's story.
i really dislike how many people say that "2016 was a shitty year for gaming", i mean, there was a ton of good games this year. -FFXV -Overwatch -Uncharted4 -Dark Souls 3 (my personal GOTY btw) -Stardew Valley -Deus Ex: Human Revolution -Pokemon Sun&Moon -XCOM 2 -Monster Hunter X/Generations -Watch Dogs 2 -The Last Guardian -Hyper Light Drifter -Etrian Odyssey 5 Personal honorable mentions to Dragon's Dogma and Stranger of Sword City, since they were not made this year but they got ported to PC and released world wide correspondingly and thus it's the first time i could play them.
I am so fucking happy Hyper Light Drifter is so high on the list. Easily my GOTY, probably my favorite game ever. I love it SO MUCH. Excellent taste, shame it didn't get more recognition!

It's a great list! Lots of games I certainly wasn't expecting to be on there :D For me, my game of the year is easily Doom. It's a masterpiece in modern FPS game design and perhaps has the best combat I've ever experienced in an FPS thanks to its awesome weapons, secondary fires, orthogonal enemy design, level design, lack of hitscan bullshit and so much more. I find too many FPS games lacking any real proper challenge as most are either too easy or are simply bullshit but Doom makes that challenge fair by removing the bullshit and just going with rock solid game design and leaving it down to how good the player is at dodging, utilizing the map, prioritising enemies and what weapon is best for the job combined with the glory kill mechanic - when all of that is combined then I would go as far as to say it's probably the best FPS since Doom 2 from 1994 as far as raw gameplay goes. The multiplayer isn't the best but its a lot of fun and the quality of snapmap varies depending on the map but when you find a good map with coop then it's awesome - plus I love making my own levels, it's great fun

I still can't stand Sam. To this very day. Uncharted 4 was a disappointment for me, I want to love it, but there are some things that even besides Sam just irked. I'n planning to do my own top 10 this month. I am only going to say, try out Overwatch. I am not even a huge fan of FPSs and it won my heart.

Titanfall 2 was definitely my favorite game of the year. I really liked the first game, and poured countless hours of my life into it. So when the second was announced, with almost everything I wanted in the original added, I was hyped. When I finally played it on October 28th, I stayed up till 3 AM. I had gotten the game at around 6 PM, and couldn't stop playing it. The campaign was amazing, one of the best in an FPS since 2007. The robot buddy, BT, is great and adorable at the same time. The conversations with him and Jack, the main character, are interesting especially with being able to choose what you say. There are some Uncharted levels of amazement and blockbuster style moments. One mission in particular does something with the platforming, which is great in general, that made me so happy to see it. That game is legendary. Uncharted 4 and DOOM are also very close, with Star Fox Zero (yes) being a close fourth. But great list Nitro. Now I gotta get Hyper Light Drifter.
I really hope that you try the new DOOM out sometime. Even if you don't review it, the Campaign and even Snapmap are chock full of early 2000s and late 90s shooter style goodness. It's really fun and well worth 60 bucks, and I'm sure DOOM is slightly discounted by now.

Inside was my favorite hands down. I love games that tell their story very subtly, because it gives me a chance to analyze and interpret it. I liked OneShot more, but I didn't play it until AFTER the solstice update, which came out in 2017, so I'm not counting it.
I think what I enjoyed the most this year was AM2R, honestly. But I'm just a huge Metroid fanboy, because I grew up playing the Prime trilogy since I was born in 2000.
Dragon Quest Builders is another game you may want to look into. It's essentially objective-based Minecraft, but it also gives you a real sense of exploration and openness as you progress.
Great choices. I should try some of those soon. I can recommend another game on PS4 known as Shu it's really fun. I also heard Owlboy is awesome as well.

Awesome list! I agree for the most part and I'm surprised Cyber Sleuth made your list, it really is an underrated gem. My GOTY was probably Final Fantasy XV, as flawed as it was, it really struck me the right way and its the game I enjoyed the most this year and I think that's what really matters. Uncharted 4 and Dark Souls 3 were a close second. Also, Shantae Half-Genie Hero, World of Final Fantasy and Gravity Rush (Remaster) were excellent as well. As much as people whine, I honestly think 2016 was a good year for gaming. There were plenty of awesome games that I enjoyed.
Furi, VA11-Hall-A and Shantae: Half Genie Hero are my favorites this year (besides some of the stuff listed here). Everything else I wanted to play was on the PS4, which I lack. Hey, I'd actually recommend Furi to anyone who likes Hyper Light Drifter, they share a similar aesthetic.
Finally! I have been waiting so long for someone to mention HLD, it's my favourite of the year, and is definitely in my top 5 overall. I absolutely adore it
For me, some of the best games I played in 2016 was Pokemon Sun & Moon. These two had probably the strongest story I've seen since gen V, and the music was just great. While I feel there could of been a bit more new Pokemon, the whole island setting and how they changed things made the gameplay great. Honestly, it's easier to train up a good team now as you can check the stats the moment you catch something, and after you faced a new Pokemon once, the game will tell you what moves you have will work against it so you'll know its type. If anything, Nintendo greatly improved the game format of Pokemon. Also, for those who hated X & Y and how they switched the EXP Share, well its still the same as in there but the good news is that even if your slightly higher leveled than the enemy, they can still prove to me a challenge even with EXP Share on as opposed to Gen VI where it felt they gave too much EXP. So great story, lovable characters, great new setting, awesome music, improve gameplay with the right amount of difficulty. I don't think I played a Pokemon game like this since Gen II. The other one actually is a two for one deal this time around, as thanks to Play, Doujin!, as we got some Touhou fan-games on console for PS4. While the original PC versions didn't released this year, I still have to give credit to both. Genso Rondo while being a bit harder to get into out of the two, is still a fun game with some stories that will make you laugh and in some cases, warm your heart. It also features four more characters compared to the original PC version, three of which being DLC that you can get for a low price. But the other Touhou game, Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity, which got released for PS4 as a digital download as opposed to a physical copy, is probably the better one. Hell, it even won the Indie Special Award for the 2016 PlayStation Awards. The areas you explore are very beautiful, and the hack'n'slash game play is easy enough to understand. The game is short, but what can you expect? The story is very simple and easy to follow, though characters, it's hard for me to say much if your not familiar to the Touhou cast before hand, but I do believe they will grow on you none the less. If anything, end of 2016 marked a good evolution for the Touhou project as this world of shrine maidens, magicians, gods and yokai is now open to a larger audience then it's already surprisingly big audience.
