Old time pilot here shaking the dust to go back flying the real thing, pulled out my FSX (also collecting dust) to help and as I looked for updates I stumbled on the Steam platform, so I started to check all the reviews on the net and you did a good job with this video. I'll go get one and earn my wings back. Thank you!

Still using my old home-built unit Gigabyte X-48DQ6, Nvidia GTX 285, Intel Q9650, 4 gb Patriot Viper DDR2 OC'd 4.2Ghz, aircooled. I had FSX box edition for years and had it running pretty good. I have helped others do the same as I build gamer units for flight simmers. BUT.....FSX STEAM IS AWESOME! What a difference DoveTail made for this sim. No stutters, texture pops, etc., even in bad wx, or heavy clouds using Orbx scenery. Crystal clear definition of aircraft and airports. I doubted it could be as you said in your earlier steam videos but WOW! What a difference! Thank you Jordan.

Great rundown. Thanks! I flew FS9 a lot and when I finally got FSX, it was just non-stop troubleshooting and I finally gave up. Knowing that this is under active development and not just a reskin is very encouraging. I would add this as reason number 11: For the first time ever, I see ten regions in the U.S. lit up on VATSIM on a Wednesday night. (!)

Steam is definitely the way to go. I was tired of the old fsx crashing all the time! Anyway, great video. You should make more videos or tutorials on how to use some of your adds ons. Such as flight sim, or how to prepare a flight plan, etc. The list goes on, of course, we all still have things to learn when it comes to flying simulators. But it's a great hobby!

I watched this video a few times. Great job, you sold me along with the last of endless "fsx has to close" crashes, especially after long missions that screwed up my mission immersion, then having to start over. It's one thing to crash in the flight and then start over but FSX crashes are not cool. Then its off to do the dance to find the fix, is it software, hardware, video card, ohh my, Got to stop it, uninstall reinstall, can't reinstall, aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh, that finally made me get FSX Steam. Best $24.95 I ever spent. I didn't miss a thing switching. All my add-on's worked fine. Plus all the other benefits you pointed out. Now without the crashes I was able to add 3 monitors with a 50" Plasma main screen. Best move I ever made. What a difference in realism having center, instruments and both side views. My flight crashes due to poor visual peripheral vision and juggling toggle views have been dramatically reduced and the overall enjoyment has been well worth it. What a joy it is to fly again. I meant to write you should do a tutorial on flight aware not flight sim. I think as new people start playing fsx , tutorials on how to use some of fsx adds are the way to go in expanding their knowledge of flying and making it more enjoyable.

I still play FSX and I think there is not to much difference between the 2. You think the FSX steam is better?

I had the flight simulator many years ago for the commadore 64 with the 5 inch floppy disks and extra scenery disk that was available. I just downloaded FSX, ( about 18.5 hours ). For now, I have a thrust master joystick and throttle, I may get the saitek yoke set. What I plan on doing is, copying the steam folder to my external hard drive as a backup copy.

Funny how they still sell FSX Gold edition (boxed) in many major retailers, and you can even find FS2004 if you look closely. (I got FSX deluxe back in 2010)

Hi. Thanks a lot for the videos, they are absolutely stunning. I just got FSX Steam Edition and I didn't brought any addons yet. I never played FSX before and I don't have an idea where to start. So many things, and cost a lot of money. It would be nice if you could create a guide what people can buy first, e.g. atmospherics, airports, landscape enhancements or aircrafts to get started and learn to flight. Many thanks again!

Hi. Nice video. Question: Is the aerodynamic contrail on a landing/departing jet (condensation on the wing surfaces and in the center of the vortices coming from the outside ends of the deployed flaps) a feature that is only in FSX: SE or is that determined by the aircraft add-on publisher?

And honestly i like this FSX steam edition even WAY MORE than the MFS 2020 version! Long reasons short, millions of available add-ons, better scenery, easy to use, customizations and GPS. Now i play this more than any other game i have. the longest flight i did was going from Rionegro to Las Vegas on the Avianca 787! Im so amazed at the realism!

the old fsx can add a lot of autogen objects which may give a wrong impression of the scenery. is that different in the recent fsx versions? by the way there is no light cone visible during your landing

Great video Jordon, I've just recently made the switch from FSX boxed to FSX SE and the difference for me has been revolutionary. Everything you refer to in your video I absolutely agree with. The stability of Steam FSX I never thought possible, it got to the point with the boxed edition running in Windows 8 where it simply wasn't workable or more importantly enjoyable. It's taken me a few days to settle in with SE but Wow! I'm impressed. I didn't know you could run the steam browser etc in the sim, something I learned, thank you. Again great stuff

Thanks Jordan. I have duplicate sims on my computer. Fsx and Xplane. I also have P3d and Fs9. The latter two are not used much. When building my computer for the flight sims, I also purchased Windows 8(which quickly got replaced with windows 7). I think my next move is going to be is to clear my computer out, put windows 8 back in and run strictly from steam.

Good news! All my addons now work on FSX Steam Edition even my PMDG 777-200LR And 300ER and a week ago i had the old box version of FSX and it was driving me insane as on long haul flights it kept freezing for 10 minutes and then it would unfreeze and carry on flying, this would happen at least 6 times a flight, so last week i decided to uni stall the box FSX and bin it! then download the fsx steam edition and i say WOW! what an improvement no more freezes and them fatal errors have gone. The fame rate is a lot better and the airport detail as be improved also. I will never install a box version of FSX ever again. Also Dovetail have announced that in 2016 there will be a all new FS2016. R.I.P FSX BOX VERSION.

It looks amazing to me. Let me tell you that I was one of those guys who was trying in the very first times of FSX, service packs and all of this ....t dealing with, and finally decided to make an step back to my nicely fluent FS2004. After see your video I am getting confident in purchase the Steam Edition, non the less 90 per cent of my add-ons I have already bought will not work so the investment will be important. thanks for the video. the steam version is defenitly more stable and that might be a good reason to get it. But to me it is way to expensive because I already have the box version. I personaly think they should make the steam version a bit more cheaper. I think its a bit unfair for the people that have the box version to have to buy it for the second time. But thats just me. So unless they bring out a 64 bit version or come with a new 64 bit simulator. I'm gonna consider buying X plane instead. It was a nice video. Very informative.

If you pull your props back a bit more for the climb, you can get more torque and keep the ITT a lot lower. You'll climb better and you won't temp out so low.

Jordan...I downloaded and installed Flight1 registry repair tool. When it asked for the FSX.exe file, I clicked on C:\Program Files x86\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\fsx.exe. But which "directory" are you referring to in this phrase: "....make sure your directory is appropriately pointing to FSX Steam..."? I ask this, because the panels still don't work with the Steam FSX. After I click on fsx.exe, I then click on the "Launch the Flight Sim X manually", my panels do not come on. I've downloaded and installed the latest Saitek drivers and software. I've also downloaded and installed SPAD and FSUIPC4.

Hi, I have an installation question. I keep a 10,000 RPM 1TB drive for steam games (and other games) and a SSD for flightsim. I'm a big steam supporter, but I would want to keep drive separation and it doesn't seem that steam likes that. So, the FSX:SE route would presume that I'd have to have a huge 10,000 RPM drive or SSD to accommodate a large number of steam games (many clocking in a several GBs of HDD space, and FSX, which can be 100s of GB (with a full slab of addons). Do you know much about installation flexibility? From what I understand, steam likes everyone going into its own folder structure.

One reason I stopped playing FSX is due to the OOM issue... Even with 16GB of ram, a 980ti and an overclocked i5 4690k I still got that same issue at the same time everytime.. I was sceptical whether to get this version but you have convinced me enough haha, great flight btw man.

A good video about the true benefits of the Steam Edition. While having both versions of the game, the Steam Edition and the boxed one, I still go for the boxed edition. Two biggest reason are that all of my FSX addons work and I have my Acceleration which gives me loads of more planes and missions. Can't beat the old master.

I have heard that computers can be "partitioned" or divided, by a someone who is very qualified, and has a few solid hours to spare for this "intervention". I also asked that friendly computer "Guru," if the best way to go would simply by a separate computer. A resounding yes, right away. I told him that It would be a pain (you know where) to unplug your monitor, yokes, joystick, mouse, each time you would switch. Talking about switches, he said that there is some sort of switch box, that would counter this boring gymnastic. Of course this option is not cheap, especially with a machine well equipped for the wonderful Flight Simulators series, especially the Steam version. One last note, if you have chance to try Train Simulator on Steam witch I own, You will probably fall of your chair(well, almost) when you see it's overall performance. The very detail that really is unique, is the intricate details of the windshield wipers linkages, on all sorts of beautiful locomotives. If you set the weather for stormy for example, each wipe of the wiper(s)on the windshield is symmetric to the arch traveled. The way the water is pushed to the sides, the way it reacts to the wind, or simply follows gravity when stopped at a station is a must see for all. You even have a delay wipe feature on some models. All flight simulators developers should please have a SERIOUS LOOK at train Simulator 2015 wiper details, water dispersion and variable speeds. This is an issue to be addressed with all aircrafts equipped with them. My gorgeous King Air B200 from Flight one(FS4 CD) has nice one's .They even move a few inches to their parking positions, when switched to off position. The major problem is, that they don' t remove the water on the screens . Woops! What a shame, all this valiant effort for nothing, almost. Thanks again for your Top Notch reply, and please much more lightning, wind shear, and of course lots of rain, on your next breathtaking presentation. Even if it's a "sightseeing trip". Just be sure to have plenty of barf bags on board for the parents, and kids! I usually fly with stormy stuff around, I just love it. You might of guessed that one...

I've used FSX boxed edition on my Windows 8 computer with minimal difficulties for a couple of years.

Jordan....My equipment is all Saitek Pro Flight. The Cessna Yoke System, Quadrant and TPM all work fine. But I can't get my Pro Flight Switch or Multi Panels to work in FSX Steam edition. I like to use them for the engine start, bat, alt, avionics master, aircraft lights, etc; I also like the features of the Multi Panel, i.e., flaps, pitch trim, heading, altitude, auto pilot, etc. Do you know if those panels are compatible with FSX Steam edition? Nice to see you use ORBYX, I got it recently and it is amazing. IMHO nothing beats FSUICP for interfacing and calibration of multiple USB flight controls..

jordan, in my fsx se, there is no "fly now" button like in boxed game. contacted dovetail via a ticket. no resolution. have you heard of that glitch before? cant start flights. did 6 clean reinstalls. no help

The Textures/Details why loading when you are flying? Cant change this? I have a same problem. I see only about 10 Nautical Miles away! And after that--> nothing? How can I fix this? Please help me! I tried--> CFG edit. -> No Works!

What is it with the flashing inside the cockpit and on the airplane? For example during the landing and taxi to parking? I was thinking lightning effects but when parking and closing down the plane was lighting up while nothing else around it was.

Unfortunately, my FSX - Steam Edition doesn’t work at all! As soon as I have purchased and downloaded it the programme didn’t run properly and still doesn’t. I can start it on my desktop and you hear the iconic FSX soundtrack but all you see is your desktop wallpaper instead of the FSX menu where you start your flight! Pretty pity and I have no idea how to fix this matter! ☹

myself i had pretty bad experiences with fsx. everything is bugging out and glitching and the steam fsx keeps crashing. dont even get me started when i try to turn on slew mode

Hi again Jordan. I've now got FSXSE up and running. The main thing I notice is that the graphical representations of my area lacks entire neighborhoods and housing developments. And these are areas that existed when the stock MS version of FSX was created. Is there any way to load updated sat images (or whatever) into FSXSE? I've played with the flight sim in Google Earth (GE) and although it's not in a league with FSXSE, I can fly right over my house and see my backyard with GE. Thanks man!

dude, you just sold me on steam, ive been curious about this for sometime, ive used fsx boxed edition, the original for about 8 or 9 years since it came out. i thank you for explaining this, im a subscriber now, nice vid.

I never seen any real noticeable difference between the steam edition and my disk version. I never had any issues at all or any unstable issues with FSX ever. The only real benefit with a steam version is that you never have to worry about scratched, broken or lost disk's. That is truly the only real gain from the steam edition. At least in my experience and opinion. Everything else is pretty much the same or at least what I have seen. I truly do not see any performance fixes what so ever. I flew on both systems of mine side by side and everything from frames to smoothness is 100% identical. I know a lot of people claiming to have many crashes with the disk edition, but that was probably due to registry issues from installing and uninstalling addons. I have never experienced issues with the original FSX. The only true way to avoid major issues with FSX, especially the disk version; is to get an SSD drive. I found that increased the performance by about 70%. The second thing is to fix the registry if you installed and uninstalled addons frequently! I would still recommend the steam version if one does not own the disk version, because you always have the software online in your account.

I have both but prefer the original FSX DISC VERSION , You're not tied to steam for a start, But steam does have odd updates even still for FSX,STEAM, some add ons are a frame killer wether FSX or FSX,SE, And there's still a decent community for FSX, Great videos keep em coming,

Are you able to use both steam fsx and old fsx? Without anything happenening to the two sim, because everytime I launch steam fsx I get an error about the disc version and im not up for wipping out my entire disc sim for steam sim.

That strobe flashing is ridiculously bright.. Like lighting striking every 10 or so seconds.

I'm just curious - so if I currently fly the PMDG 737 will I have to transfer the file between the original fsx folder and the steam edition, or does the steam edition override/adjoin with each other? I'd greatly appreciate if anyone could answer this for me. Don't want to lose my 737 and have to re-download/purchase it all over again.

Admittedly, I have heavily tweaked my FSX Gold Edition Boxed (not as much as some though), but I have ZERO crashes, and don't have the pop-in issue at all. I fly the PBY Catalina X which is highly detailed, and also use ORBX, etc. Does pop-in only happen when flying fast? Been a while since I took the Raptor, F-16 or other fast movers out. Also, I see white flashing in your video ... it appears on the plane (exterior view) and also in the cockpit. Is this a glitch, lightning, or your strobes or something? Thanks.

can you install just-flight add on aircraft and scenary. been an FSX user since it came out. found it works on win 10 but you cant install add on aircraft from just-flight also FSX hangs at times.

I need help. Been on FSX since day one and flying Microsoft flight sims since the early 90's. I just got a nice computer rig to run fsx it would not run my disks so I got the steam edition but my parking breaks wont release by hitting period or the trigger button on my sidewinder joy stick any suggestions? Hello. I'm thinking about buying the steam edition. However, I have a bunch of add-on's such as PMDG, ORBX, aerosoft, etc for the FSX Box Edition. Have you or anybody else had problems installing any of the boxed edition add-on's?

Do you need to have fsx before you can get the steam edition? How does it work. I have xplane 11 buts it slow on my laptop. Just had 30 minutes eta on a flight and 2 hrs later I still did not reach my destination.

Thanks for the video. I found the explanations very long but not detailed. To sumerize: what is more stable in FSX steam edition ? Your video just shows great add-ons and yes there's the "one click solutions", but concerning the simulation itself, the use of CPU, GPU & VAS ? Does it at least reduce the OOM issues on long flights ? Does it takes a better advantage of the DX10 GPUs ? Does it take less load of the CPU or does it manage now the hyper threading ? What really changed ?

No matter which I try to use, FSX or FSX Steam, once I'm flying nicely, the program suddenly freezes, the screen turns black, and I get a "Fatal Error" box. I have found the error code, but don't know how to remove it. Here is the code: 0xc000001d. Does anyone know how to get rid of this thing? If you do, please help, and thanks.

Besides the software improvements and gadgets that you see from steam, there are improvements on the flight dinamics engine, stalling characteristics, etc?

Hi, I'm considering purchasing this after seeing the old FSX desktop menus do not scale well and are too small in Windows 10 4K.Do you run the desktop in 4K? If so; is the desktop FSX UI scaling correctly and can the menu's be read without being 6 inches from the screen?

Did they fix the frame rate issue. I put my frame rate to 60 and it still jumps like it's running on 10fps

Hi Jordan, because of your videos I am officially in FSX Steam now. I still can't get FSRecorder to be working with FSX Steam. The only reason I need FSRecorder was in FSX Classic, I wasn't able to replay and view my approach if my flight was more than 8 hours. Is there an alternate FS Recorder that I can use to record or view my approach after doing a long haul flight ?

Jordan....I have the boxed FSX Gold Deluxe w/Acceleration edition. I also have many, many MegaSceneryEarth 2.0 countries, states and cities. Those are all in my Scenery Library, and show beautifully. Do you know if MegaSceneryEarth 2.0 is compatible and can be used with FSX Steam Edition?

You definitely are a top notch multitasker, no doubts on that one! Could you please give us or others Flight simmers, your opinion on the topic of having the box version of FSX, and the Steam version on the very same computer? I read on the Steam site that add-ons issues are there, and they recommend having each version on separate computers. But lets just say that if you don' t transfer anything on from the CD version to the Steam version, will this be like opening a can of worms? Please help, you have convinced me by your superb presentation. But again, will those two get along? By the way, I still fly FS2 ounce in a while, just to wonder at all the progress being made, and still enjoy FS4 for it's fluidity, fast executions, and of course, my tons of add-ons. Hey people! I just wonder if GHZ have anything to do with how good your flight simulator looks. Because i have FSX SE and i have 2.70 GHZ. And my FSX doesn't look the best, when i look outside it's really blurry(most in the distance), but when i look at flight simulator videos like Jordan King it just looks SO great! Like it's no lag and it's not blurry. I just wonder if my CPU and GHZ is why it's so blurry. And if so, what CPU do you recommend?

Texture "blacking"? I have not noticed that at all with my Ryzen 5 2600 rig and plain (er...plane) 'ol FSX.

I also have trouble with the gpws it just doesn't work for me. I know I am doing something wrong just don't know what. Just wondering how you got the people walking around reading the newspaper that was cool.

For Airliner : FSX/P3D with PMDG or similar quality airliners. For general aviation, from ULM to multi turbo props : X-Plane 10 (Carenado, Soul Made Simulation, RWDesign etc.. and even sometime airliners like 727 and 777 but ATC and Air traffic are not realistic). For Military simulation : DCS and Falcon 4 BMS... We have a pretty large variety of aircraft to fly, but there is a cost : high end PC and lot of payware add on... Its the price of the passion.
