A little fun fact: When The Beatels recorded "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", Pink Floyd recorded their first album "The Piper at the Gate of Dawn" in the same recording studio at the same time. Both bands have influenced each other's recordings, meaning there's a close connection between the top two spots on this list.

I’m surprised that Hendrix and Sabbath were so low since they revolutionized guitar playing in the late ‘60s and ‘70s (and plus Black Sabbath is credited with creating heavy metal) but Floyd and Sgt. Pepper’s are definitely deserving of the top picks, though here are a number of albums that I’m surprised didn’t make the cut - AC/DC - Back In Black (1980) - Metallica - Master of Puppets (1986)/Metallica (1991) - Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Ozz (1980) - Queen - A Night At the Opera (1975) - Judas Priest - British Steel (1980) - Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast (1982) - The Who - Tommy (1969) - King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King (1969) - Chuck Berry - Chuck Berry Is On Top (1959) - Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley (1956) - Guns ‘N’ Roses - Appetite For Destruction (1987) - Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - Texas Flood (1983) - Radiohead - OK Computer (1997)

I would just like to take this time to remind the masses that Jimi Hendrix released only 3 albums during his lifetime within a 2 year span. There is quite literally no artist in Music history to have that epic of a career and influence in such a minuscule period of time. Oh and just to make it more ridiculous, he didn't start playing until he was 15, which if you're a musician are aware that not only is that older than the average age one learns an instrument, but this man is still talked about as the potential GOAT of that instrument. This was an anomaly of a prodigy of a musician.

I'd like to give credit to Bat Out Of Hell from Meatloaf/Jim Steinman. This album proved you can have epic sales over many decades without ever having a top ten single. It only reached #14 on the US charts and #9 in the UK. Yet since 1977 it has sold over 14 million copies in the U.S. alone. According to WIKI, that's three million more than Sgt. Pepper. It was on the UK Album Chart for 522 weeks. The only other artists to do better are Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, and Oasis.

@kuhnhan Год назад
True, but they weren't very influential or innovative. They were a very basic rock band.
@magusxxx
@magusxxx Год назад
@@kuhnhan Disagree. Especially since this was Steinman's starting point. He sound has never been matched and was considered influential by several artists including Evanescence, Macklemore (especial the song Downtown), as well as Andrew W.K.. He didn't just stick with rock and roll. He also did music for Broadway as well as a variety of hit records for artists like: Barbara Streisand, Barry Manilow, Bonnie Tyler, Celine Dion, Cher, Taylor Dayne, etc., etc.. It's well known in the music biz that you could listen to a song and hear the "Steinman Chorus". Which was the usual dead giveaway that he worked on the recording.

I think this list falls into the mythology that great albums are very influential. As incredible as Jimi Hendrix was, and I think because he was so great no one could be the next Jimi. Led Zeppelin were great and popular but they were more influenced than influencers. We're missing a lot of true innvoators. While Sergeant Peppers was brilliant, earlier albums basically invented the modern album. Where albums used to be singles compilations, the Beatles made music on albums to release singles from. Bauhaus popularized goth and almost every like band afterwards used the Bauhaus aesthetic. The Jesus And Mary Chain and Husker Du popularized distortion. Brian Eno invented ambient. And I think the biggest album left out was My Bloody Valentines Loveless which took distortion to a whole new level.

Did they call Purple Rain radio friendly as an album? It literally contained the song that started the PMRC and album warning labels.

Not to mention a few songs that had to be shortened for radio play. All around not made for radio, but still amazing!

I've often wondered whether people who harp on about London Calling could actually name three songs on the album or quote one verse of the title track.

Rubber Soul. It begat both Pet Sounds and Revolver, which begat Sgt Pepper. Most impactful was Pepper, but you don't get there with Rubber Soul, which was a huge change from albums with a couple of singles and a lot of filler. The entire album was charged with great songs.

Also consider debut/early albums from genre-bending/making/influencing bands like Elvis, Beatles, The Who, Byrds, Velvet Underground, Stooges, CCR, Sex Pistols, Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, Metallica, REM, RAtM, Pixies, Radiohead, Korn

I would place the Stones "Sticky Fingers" in place of "Exile on Main Street". I would also give honorable mentions to the Who's "Who's Next" & Steely Dan's "Aja".

Suddenly, with this video I was immediately brought back to the earliest times of this channel, back when WM used to release videos of this type not on a daily basis but in a less frequent, and more enjoyable manner. As opposed to what you guys have developed to be the current way WM does things now. Now, what can be said about this list? No surprises. There's always the same old ranking, SPLHCB on the top or second-of-the-top position, TDSOTM among the three best; I sometimes feel like lists of this kind are recurrent, repetitive. Of course, it excites our emotion and make us feel so proud that our favorite albums are reaching the top places, but it is slowly getting too predictable and boring. Just a lazy reflection... :P

So many left off but, the end result was never in doubt. The encounter The Beatles had with Pink Floyd at Abbey Road Studios during the recording of Sgt. Pepper’s is one of the most understated moments of the sixties.

Glad that Bringing it all Back Home it's being recognized as Dylan' greatest revolutionary album, hoping that critics will someday move on from Sgt. Pepper's and will acknoledge Revolver as the Beatles real greatest achivement and influential work.

Led Zeppelin hates the classification heavy metal and I agree with that in the sense that it kind of sets limits. They were such great musicians and played so many styles as to defy any specific genre
